Recovering BPEL SubProcesses

Hi!
I was wondering if you could help me in the following problem:
Let's say we have a BPEL process "A", which during it's execution invokes a BPEL process "B" and waits for it's response to continue. So the order of execution would be "A">"B">"A".
Let's now say that I have to abort process "B" during it's execution (e.g. some unrecoverable error) and start another instance to replace it. Is there any way I can start manually another instance of process "B", in order for it to automatically respond to the correct instance of process "A" when it finishes (i.e. continues process flow as if the error never occurred).
I know that i can do this reply manually, but I was looking for a way to do this automatically, rather than having to look from time to time if the process B has finished and put it's answer in process A's interactions...
I've noticed that in BPEL Console I can insert some WS-Addressing values when I start a new instance of process "B", which I assume would be used for the process to know where to send the response, but I cant's seem to find which values I need to insert... Any clues?
PS: I'm using Oracle Soa Suite 10g (10.1.3.5)
Thanks ;)

On BPEL Console, select your domain. Go To Configuration --> Logging and increase the logging level, preferably to All or DEBUG. Now try to recover and check if you find anything in logs.
On the Manual Recovery (invoke/recv/activity), when you click on conversation Id, are you able to see the right payload ?

  • Calling a BPEL subprocess from multiple places

Say I want to define a subprocess inside my process. This subprocess would for (a trivial) example take unsigned parameter foo and return 2 * foo.
Can I define this kind of a subprocess in BPEL (1.1) and call it from multiple places inside my main process?
And can I model this using jDeveloper?

By (sub) process do you mean an autonomic separate process that I have deployed?
I was aiming for having a subprocess inside the main process, a bit like a function in an executable program. So that I would only deploy process A but the process A would have internal subprocess B which would be called from several places in the main process.
But now that I have researched this further it would seem that BPEL 1.1. does not support subprocesses at all. I found some talk about extentions such as BPEL-Subprocess but the core BPEL 1.1. does not support them, or am I mistaken?

  • How to recover BPEL sources from deployed environment ?

    Hi all.
We have a client that has bpel processes that are deployed on a production environment.
The company who developed the sources is not available anymore and they don't have the sources (JDEV projects) anymore.
Is there a way to recover the bpel projects sources from the server on which they had been deployed ?

  • Recover BPEL Process that crashed with OutOfMemoryError: PermGen space

    Hello,
    I'm running a Oracle 10G Soa Suite (10.3.5.0) on linux (x64).
Yesterday the oc4j soa instance got out of PermGen memory.
I Restarted the server, but one of the running processes gave a OutOfMemoryError (error attached at end).
I went to Administration tab on BPEL Console and in Recover (Callbacks) i found the instance that gave the error.
I recovered it, but it remain the same.
Can anyone help me on how to recover the process instance, if it is possible to recover it.
    Thanks
    Pedro
[2010/09/06 17:10:38] There is a system exception while performing the BPEL instance, the reason is "PermGen space". Please check the error log file for more infromation. Please try to use bpel fault handlers to catch the faults in your bpel process. If this is a system exception, please report this to your system administrator. Administrator could perform manual recovery of the instance from last non-idempotent activity or dehydration point. less

  • BPEL, Easy or Automated Way to Migrate between dev, prod?

Hi, I haven't seen any forum posts or blogs addressing how to create bpel processes in a way that they can be deployed on different envrionments such as dev, qa, production, etc... without the developer needing to update the references to other bpel processes, db adapters, and java web services.
This is resulting in a lot of extra work, because when I import a bpel subprocess into a bpel process, it pulls in the exact end point rather then a generic end point. Then when I want to for example, move a process from dev to prod, I will need to deploy the subprocess and then manually update the partnerlink in the process. We have a lot of interdependencies, so this isn't scalable.
There has to be a better way, or even a recommended approach for moving between environments. If we can use dynamically generated endpoints, how would we do that?
Suggestions as to how to do this would be appreciated. We do have the esb if it is possible to leverage it.
    Thanks

This might help http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/ias/bpel/pdf/bpel-admin-webinar.pdf esp wrt changing things like polling freqencies etc in the adaptors. For database adaptors JNDI name should be used to vary the database details - setup in data-sources.xml and oc4j-ra.xml.
It sure would help if all this stuff were in the admin guide !

  • Process and subprocess - share variables

    Hello,
I have a main process that calls a subprocess. At the same time the main process will continue working due to a parallel path.
when the subprocess finishes, I would like that some data(payload) on my main process get updated. Is this possible?
    OR
Is it possible to share data between a main process and subprocess?
    Any example?
    thank you
    fwu

    Hello,
What do you mean with "and only a single conversation"? does it means that if my main process calls 2 subprocess only one of this subprocess will be able to communicate with the main process exactly in the same moment? Or that at design time i will not be able to specify a conversation for more than one subprocess?
Delegating the interaction to a bpel subprocess menas that my subprocess would have to be created in bpel? But does bpel has human task objects?
Another question, when I add a subprocess to a main process, Im able to link the subprocess with the main process. When does this route will be followed? Exactly when the subprocess is called or just when it finishes?
Finally, where should I define this: "if the subprocess is defined to callback to the parent"
    thanl you for your attention,
    fwu

  • BPEL process Deployment from DEV to PRD

    Hi,
I have a question on how to move deployment from one DEV to PRD. I have BPEL subprocess in my process and calling them WSDL. Every subprocess is exposed as webservice. When i move main process to PRD/QA, the main process points DEV WSDL. How to change the main process to point to subprocess.
Could you advise me how to deploy BPEL process form DEV to QA/PRD ?
    Thanks,

    Asuming you are using 10.1.2.0.2
When developing BPEL processes, make sure your partner-links to other BPEL processes are using the same host name. From JDeveloper it will use your workstation name. CHange this to "localhost". Furthermore JDeveloper is using 9700 as port number, whil ethe application server is using 7777. CHange the OC4J configuration of JDev that it will use port 7777 instead of 9700.
Now you can basicly deploy your BPEL processes to other environments. If you are using adapters make sure that the JNDI naming is implemented on all the environments, (oc4-ra.xml file).

  • Global element declaration/definition of name: Duplicate name spaces

    Hi,
I have two wsdls provided by a target systems. Both the wsdls are using same name space and few elements descriptions are different.
Obvisouly i am getting the Global element declaration/definition of name error.
I have to use the two wsdl with in the same bpel process and invoke them one after the other. My target system is not ready to make changes in thier wsdl to change name space as the product is generating these wsdls for them. All i have to do is in BPEL process only.
Is there any idea how can we resolve the namespace issue to continue using these wsdl in the same bpel process.
Only alternative i am seeing is, to have two bpel subprocess for each service and call these bpel processes from my parent bpel process.
    Thanks

the cause of this error that you have different definition of the same element , so what you need to make sure that the element with the same name have the same definition on those wsdls.

  • Recover(Invokes) Thread in BPEL Console

    Hi,
Could anyone please explain what instances in a Recover(Invoke) Tab mean. It would be better if you could post link for any documentation.

    Hi,
I don't understand this behaviour in detail, by now. Could you please state if this is correct?
    1. I call an async bpel process A.
    2. The message is put in the delivery queue.
    3. My client is free again, not blocking.
    4. Process A does not show up in Console by now. (If I would call checkpoint(), it would do).
    5. A worker takes the message and instantiates the Process A.
    6. Process A instance is running now, calling some sync processes.
    7. NO dehydration so far.
    8. Process A does not show up in Console by now. The called subprocess (sync) do show up, if they are completed.
    9. Loop to 6, until Process A ends and makes callback to client.
    10. After sending callback, Process A shows up in Console.
    11. Now I can monitor, what HAS happened.
I understand, that you can't commit your process data, until a regular dehydration point is reached.
But consequence: I can't even SEE that there exists a process instance from A, until it worked through all the steps above. I just see a swarm of sub processes without an existing parent.
That's the behaviour, you call "intended"?
Workaround would be to do dehydration after each bpel invoke activity. Do you see a problem in doing this?
    Thanks in advance!
    Torsten

  • 11g BPEL not recovering

    Hi All,
I have a FTP adapter that triggers when a file gets in. Then the metadata is sent to a BPEL process that reads the content of the file and archives it and so on.
The problem is that I run into an issue when the the adapter starts the Composite instance but the BPEL process does not start (or rather I dont see it). After a bit I see that all the BPEL processes are in the "recovery mode" with a status of "undelivered". Recovering the process doesnt do anything.  However after I bounce the server or the next day the process magically starts off. It doesnt happen all the time but when it happens its hard to fix.
Also there is nothing in the logs.
The DLV_Message table has a status of "0".
The dispatch and thread values are pretty high as well. And before you ask, the files/directories have all the right permissions.
Seems like there is some scheduler or trigger that is controlling or throttling this pipeline.
Does anyone has any insight ?
    Thanks in advance!

Hi Rolando - Thanks for taking the time to answer back.
The BPEL process does not even start. However, I put some terminates in the code and it makes the BPEL process start and it seems like the issue happens during an asynchronous one way call out to another process. I even tried un-deploying the service it is calling and it still keeps in running mode.
I look at the active requests it keeps getting incremented.
    Dispatcher System Threads: 3
    Dispatcher Invoke Thread: 300
    Dispatch Engine Thread : 500
    DispatcherMaxRequestDepth: 1000
Something is just internally throttling the requests. It usually happens when I try to process a few files. Its throttled to run once every 20 seconds 5 files at a time. It usually doesnt take more than half a second to process.
    Thanks,
    Shaf

  • Doubt on BPEL Manual recover

    Hi,
As we are doing manual recover through BPEL console by selecting the waiting instances.
can any one please tell me whats the funda behind that..
    1. how many threads are there for handling these waiting instances

    Hi,
It is due to there could be some issue in the bpel process. Place the dehyadration activity each invoke then check the audit trail instances u will know where the processes execution has been stopped?

  • Error Creating reusable subprocesses and transform them into BPEL

    I have a reusable process
    startevent-automated activity1-automatedactivity2-end event
    I have a main process:
    startevent- automated activity"step 1"-subproces step 2 (type =independent, reference to subprocess)-automated activity "step3"-end event
When I transform the subprocess, it is successful. Then I transform the main process. it gives me the error "subproces step2 should have a start event and an endevent. It will not open in BPM Studio".
The start and end event are there. Am I missing something here?
    Regards,
    Lonneke

I figured out the problem: if I want to create a reusable subprocess in BPA Suite, I need to create a 'regular function' (not an automated activity) and assign it to the subprocess. Then it is transformed without any errors.

If it try to deploy the BPEL process it will give built failed but the BPEL process will come in the BPEL console
and after passing the parameter it will give unable to find the decision service WSDL file.

  • Problem to start BPEL Console of Oracle BPEL Process Manager 10.1.3.1.0

    Hi everyone!
I'm writing to yours because I installed Oracle BPEL Process Manager 10.1.3.1.0 but I can't start BPEL Console. I tried to start it by the option menu of Windows XP and by Developer Prompt, but I get a HTTP 404 Not Found page. When I was installing the universall installer told me that it wasn't possible to set ORACLE_HOME variable because it had a value older than 1023 characteres. So, I continue the installation but I can't start the BPEL Console. The Dos Console teld me sometimes when I put http://localhost:9700/BPELConsole..timed out. So, tell me how to resolve that problem.
    I'll be waiting your responses.

    Thanks for your responses.
    Greetings.

    Hi,
    you said:
it wasn't possible to set ORACLE_HOME variable because it had a value older than 1023 characteres
What do you mean with older than 1023 chars?
I think the easiest way is to uninstall the BPEL Console and run the installer again with correcting the ORACLE_HOME problem...
