Recovering Photos _from_ an iPad

I have a low tech friend on the other side of the country who's sync computer died with no backup nor file recovery options.
She she does have the only copy  of a number of valuable photos on her iPad.
She has replaced the dead computer with a replacement and has synced her iPad and reports that the photos are still on the iPad.
Where would she look, or, how would she best proceed to recover the photos on the ipad in order to back them up to other media?
Thanks in advance,
Beverly Howard

If the photos were taken with the iPad, saved from emails/websites etc, or copied onto it via the camera connection kit then they can be copied off fairly easily : there is guidance in this article http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4083
If the photos were originally syned from a computer then she'll need a third party app in irder to transfer them off (there is no 'iTunes' way as it's assumed that youalready have copies on a computer/backup drive). Apps such as Simple Transfer (which also has a free 'lite' version call Simple Photo & Video Transfer) can be used to transfer photos off via wifi.

Had you set your iPhone up to use Photo Stream?
Had your performed an iCloud backup of your iPhone before it was damaged?
If you did neither of the above, then your photos are not in the cloud, and they are gone.
If you performed an iCloud backup, then it would contain the photos in the iPhone's Camera Roll (taken on the iPhone) at the time of your last backup.  You could restore this iCloud backup to a device.
If your iPhone used Photo Stream, those photos are immediately accessible to your iPad if you set it up to use the same Photo Stream.

How to recover photos after updating iPad to iOS 5?

If you didn't back them up, such as to an appropriate photo app's photo library on a Mac or PC, there is nothing to recover.

  • How to recover photos deleted in ipad

help ! i've deleted photos in my ipad, how can i recover them ?

If you didn't backup your files they're lost. If you had them already during the last synchronization, restoring from the previous backup could help, but of course you'd lose anything you've added since then.

  • Recovering Photos from my Ipad

Hi everyone. Is there any way I can recover pictures that I had in my Ipad and were deleted? I used to have shyncronized with my Ipod but they era nor any more.
    Thxs.

    No, sorry, they're gone.
The only way you could recover something would be if you'd done a sync and if any of them are in there.

  • Iphoto keeps asking to recover photos at every ipad synch

Every time I synch my MAC with my Ipad, Iphoto keeps popping up an alert that tells me that I have 5 pictures to import. If I tell I don't want to synch, makes an empty folder named Recovered Photos_2, 3, 4.... any answer to this?

Probably the best solution is not to have iPhoto import your images automatically every time you connect your iPad to the computer.
If so, then go to preferences/general tab and go to 'connecting camera opens' and choose none.

  • Recover photos before restoring ipad

Tried to update to new software for ipad 2, once this got to the end it noted an error so assume it has not updated. My ipad is now stuck and has asked for it to be restored however I'am relucant to do as it says it will erase all data but I photos I wish as not backed up on laptop. Please advise how I can proceed without losing photos and other data?

You may have reached the point of no return.  If you never backed up the device to icloud (this would included photos in the camera roll), then your photos are not in a backup.
If the ipad indicates you must restore from a backup, but you have never synced photos to a computer as is usually suggested to archive them, and don't have a backup of the device to icloud, then the photos are gone.

If your photos are in iPhoto or on your computer, then they are not lost. If you delete them from the iPad you have a major problem. You can check this out: iPad Data Recovery - Undelete & Rescue Lost Files from iPad.

how to recover photos from a usb key to put on ipad

What do you mean 'how to recover' ? If you want to copy the photos from the USB drive to your iPad then you can try using the camera connection kit, but a lot of USB drives require more power than is supplied to the kit and the photos need to be in a particular format : you need to create a DCIM directory off the root of the drive with the photos underneath it, and the photo filenames need to be exactly 8 characters long (no spaces) plus the file extension i.e. in a similar format as if a camera had created/written them

  • After reset ipad i lost photos i want recover photos

    Lost photo after reset ipad
How can i get back lost photo

If they were on the iPad when you last synced/backed up on your computer's iTunes then you can try restoring the iPad from that backup (backups and restoring). Otherwise I'm not aware of any way to recover them.

  • I just deleted photos from my iPad. I need help on recover these photos

I accidentally deleted photos in my iPad. I need help to recover these photos. Thanks

Restore from your Backup or Re-Sync them from your computer where you have been regularily Transferring them to.

  • My desktop hard drive failed. Most of the photos on my IPad were backed up but some were not.

The only copies I have of some of them are on my iPad. Because they are the only copies I have I want to be certain how I should go about assuring I can get them as they are very important to my wife and me.
If I reinstall iTunes to my rebuilt computer, will it immediately pull any photos on the iPad over? I'm concerned it's first instinct will be to reset the iPad.
I'm not using iCloud. In the settings of my IPad I see that there is a Backup option. When I enable this I get a confirmation box. "Your iPad will no longer back up to your computer automatically when you sync with iTunes"
I'm not sure what this means or if I should be concerned about it. As far as I know my iPad never backed up when I synced.
Anyway, if I enable ICloud will that transfer the photos on the iPad to the Cloud and allow me to them pull them down to my account?
Any help would be appreciated. I just want to have a plan before trying anything so as not to risk losing those photos.
    Thanks much,
    Colin

Photos aren't copied off an iPad via iTunes, that is only used to sync them to the iPad. To copy photos to your computer that were taken with the iPad, copied to it via the camera connection kit, or saved from emails/websites then see this page - on a PC you can use the windows camera wizard
To copy photos that were originally synced from a computer you will need a third-party app on your iPad such as Simple Transfer which can copy them off via your wifi network. But as photos are 'optimised' when they are synced to the iPad, any that you then copy back to a computer may not be exactly the same as they originally were on your computer.

I have approx 600 photos on my iPad which had previously been synced from a pc I no longer have. I want to get these photos onto my new laptop and remove them from my iPad. Can anyone help please? Thanks

In terms of then deleting them from your iPad, if you connect the iPad to your computer's iTunes and select an empty photo folder on the Photos tab in iTunes and then sync it, that should remove those photos from your iPad.
Have you synced the iPad to your new computer yet ? If not then you might find this user-tip for syncing to a new computer useful : https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3141
