Recreate instance from the RMAN backup

Gentlemen, following ... I'm simulating a recovery for a client.
The environment is Windows 2003 64-bit VMWare which is a backup of the VM production was to start the network with a different IP and Host.
I uninstalled all the binary Oracle (11g) and installed it again.
I need to restore a recent backup (made with RMAN) and return the body to normal.
Already created the password file:
orapwd file =% ORACLE_HOME% \ dbs \ PWD% ORACLE_SID% PASSWORD = password entries = 5
Already created the tnsnames:
SAP =
(DESCRIPTION =
(ADDRESS_LIST =
(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP) (HOST = 10.9.140.30) (PORT = 1521))
(CONNECT_DATA =
(SERVICE_NAME = SAP)
LISTENER has already created the static:
SID_LIST_LISTENER =
(SID_LIST =
(SID_DESC =
(GLOBAL_DBNAME = BMKSAP)
(ORACLE_HOME = E: \ Oracle_Bin \ product \ 11.1.0 \ db_1)
(SID_NAME = SAP)
LISTENER =
(DESCRIPTION_LIST =
(DESCRIPTION =
(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP) (HOST = 10.9.140.30) (PORT = 1521))
(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = IPC) (KEY = EXTPROC1521))
But when it comes time to start SQLPLUS to give NOMOUNT with STARTUP PFILE:
C: \> set ORACLE_SID = sap
C: \> set local = sap
C: \> sqlplus "/ as sysdba"
SQL * Plus: Release 11.1.0.7.0 - Production on Tue Jul 8 16:35:49 2010

ERROR:
ORA-12518: TNS: listener nπo can distribute client connection
Have uninstalled and installed the Oracle about 3 times, I tried to change the host and tnsnames LISTENER for the Hostname of the machine, I tried the LISTENER dynamic but ... nothing works.
anyone have any revenue to climb it?

There is only the processes parameter in PFILE.
Processes = 150
I configured the listener like this:
SID_LIST_LISTENER =
(SID_LIST =
(SID_DESC =
(GLOBAL_DBNAME = sap)
(ORACLE_HOME = E:\Oracle_Bin\product\11.1.0\db_1)
(SID_NAME = sap)
LISTENER =
(DESCRIPTION_LIST =
(DESCRIPTION =
(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = 10.9.140.30)(PORT = 1521)(DIRECT_HANDOFF_TTC_LISTENER = OFF))
(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = IPC)(KEY = EXTPROC1521))
But ... I keep getting:
C:\>set oracle_sid=sap
C:\>set local=sap
C:\>sqlplus "/ as sysdba"

  • Restoring 20/25 % from the RMAN Backup

    Hello Guys,
I have a production environment with size of TBytes, and I would like to create a new test environment but with a smaller amount of data, so i need to take a hot full backup from the database then restore only 20% to 25% from the original data to a new fresh database.
The question, is this scenario Doable ?, do we have particular way to do this approach ?
    Thanks for your help !

    Hello Paul,
You mean that if i have some constraints, it will be difficult to take the backup using the expdp ?, now we are deciding to use the expdp/impdp to take the backup from the production database and restore it in a new fresh database, please consider that we will use the SAMPLE to take around 20% to 25% from the original data.
Do we have have any restrictions for this scenario ?
    Thanks for your help.
Mahmoud Darwish. The problem is that the SAMPLE (or nothing else inherent in expdp) is going to know about cross-table relationships. So it samples 20% of your invoice_detail table. What's to tell it which rows from invoice_header are needed to match those specific invoice_detail rows?

  • Create a database from 8i RMAN backup

    Hi,
I am in need to recover some historic data from a historic database's RMAN backup.
The situation is ... I have one old RMAN backup of a 8i database which includes datafiles, archivellog files and control files. Init.ora file is also available.
I have installed the 8i software in a host and created the oracle service through ORADIM and pwd file through ORAPWD utility. Then copied the init.ora file under 'C:\Oracle\ADMIN\ORCL\PFILE' and the RMAN backup files under 'C:\Oracle\Ora81\DATABASE' folder.
Now I can start the instance with the init.ora file but can not mount as control files are not there. when I try to restore the control files through RMAN as...
    RMAN> run
    2> {
    3> restore controlfile;

Now without the catalog database how can I restore the control files and the database from the RMAN backup?
I think the old RMAN metadata was stored in catalog database.
    Any suggestion please?
    regards

Sorry I wrongly said that I do not have the DBID, I have DBID but I have controlfile backup as RMAN backupset, not in Binary. So even if I set DBID, RMAN asks for the catalog database, which is not available.

  • Create a database from 32bit rman backup with NEW name on a 64bit system

    Hello,
i'm more programmer than database admin but i need to set up a 10gR2 apex development server based on our productive instance in a short time.
For that i want to use a rman backup of the productive machine (SLES 10 32bit, DB10GR2+ASM, APEX 3.1).
Because of the less time i got, i want to use an existing machine (SLES 11 64bit, DB10GR2+ASM) as destination.
On this machine i want to create a new instance from the backup i took. I Already read note 881395.1 but i'm quite unsure about 2 things
    a) It's VERY IMPORTANT that the development instance has another name than the productive instance.
When i follow 881395.1 and set the enviromental variable ORACLE_SID to another new name. Will this be all? Or will there be problems using another SID because of references in the controlfile or sth. like that?
    b) It's VERY IMPORTANT that the datafiles aren't stored in the same path and with the same names as the productive instance. It is another server but there is already a copy of the database (our dba tried to set up a standby solution on this machine) and i don't want to bother this!
How can i rename the datafiles before restoring the backup from scatch?
    I found this: set newname for datafile 1 to '<filesystem based filename>';
Will this help? Do i need to rename every single file? Or is it possible to set a path in which all datafiles will be restored?
    c) What about the 32bit to 64 bit thing? Will this work? Or do i need to convert the database? How? RMAN Convert?
Or could RMAN convert anyhow used to realize the whole thing?
Thank you very much for your support!
    Regards
    Daniel

Or could RMAN convert anyhow used to realize the whole thing?
Thank you very much for your support!

  • Creating a standbay database from an rman backup

    hi,
I have a situation that a standby database has a large gap in archive log files, the primary server does not now have those files. I understand that you can create a standby from an rman backup of the primary but all reading I have done shows thatn you have to have a recovery catalog to carry this out. The system I am on does not have such a catalog so is there any other way to do this?
    regards
    Alan

Requirement 'You must have a recovery catalog in a standby requirement' is a little bit misleading. In fact you can do what you want : creating a standby from RMAN backups without having a recovery catalog. 'Duplicate target database for standby' does not require a connection to a recovery catalog.
You need mandatorily a recovery catalog, when you plan to take backups from the standby later on in order to free the primary from this task. The reason for that is it's not possible to transfer backup records from the standby controlfiles to the primary ones directly. After a backup on the standby you resync the catalog with the standby controlfile. Then you connect to the catalog and the primary, resync again and have actual backup informations in the primary controlfiles. When there's a media recovery problem, you easily can restore/recover the primary.

  • How to ensure the rman backup is successful?

    Hi,
we have scheduled rman backup jobs.
    1. But how do we ensure all the rman backups are successful?
    2. if the rman writes directly to tape, how do we ensure all tape backups are successful?
    thanks
    andrew

But what is incremental merge, couldn't find in the 10g manual?check it out on http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B28359_01/backup.111/b28270/rcmquick.htm#BRADV89354
do you use image backup in real production environment?Of course. We have a standard to to use image copies that way.
what do you suggest to do with rman normal way of backup or go for image backup?Depends on your specific situation. Like anything else, I prefer to provide some rationale on the recommendation.
    Image Copies with Incremental Merge
    Pros:
    (1) one one full backup taken ever; no need to take another full backup
    (2) the restore time is the same, regardless of the day of the week the db failed
    (3) every day the incremental merge's success means the backup was good - an automatic validation
    (4) it allows you to quickly switch to copy, rather than restore
    Cons:
    (1) Space requirement is more (since it's a bit to bit copy)
    (2) can't do a point in time recovery from the disk alone
    (3) can't go to the tape directly; must be a disk based backup.
    Backupsets with Incremental Backup
    Pros:
    (1) space requirement is lower (since only never-used blocks are not copied)
    (2) point in time recovery is possible
    (3) direct backup to tape possible (no need for disk backup)
    Cons:
    (1) restore time varies depending on the day of the week the db failed
    (2) you have to take a full backup regularly, perhaps once a week
    (3) no validation unless you use validate backupset (takes resources)
So, as you can see, there are pros and cons to each approach. You have to decide for yourself which one weighs more (or less) to come to a conclusion.
    Hope this helps.

  • How to remove a Java instance from the config tools

    Hi,
I would like to remove a java instance from the config tool since that server does not exist anymore.  Is there a way?
    Please le me know.
    Thanks
    Jean

    Jean,
I think you can do this if you remove the entries of your Instance from instance.properties file located under the below path.Take a backup of the file first then do the changes and Restart the server once done.
    /usr/sap/SID/JCInstanceno/j2ee/cluster/instance.properties
    Hope this helps.

  • Problem to copy database from the hot backup

    Oracle9i Enterprise Edition Release 9.2.0.4.0
    SunOS 5.8
    Hi all,
I wrote the UNIX script to copy the production Oracle 9i database from the hot backup to the Oracle 9i development database. I already did it manually without any problems using Metalink document Note:18070.1
The script stops after the command
recover database until cancel using backup controlfile ,
because I have to apply all archived logs manually.
How is it possible to get rid of this problem and automatically apply archived logs?
Thank you in advance for your help.
    Alex
P.S. We are not authorized to use RMAN.

P.S. We are not authorized to use RMAN. We dont get your point?
    Who stops you using RMAN?
How did you take the hot backup then?
There are couple of good notes on metalink, and below is one of them,

As many times as you want till you delete or modify it.

  • I would like to know how to extract my old contacts from the iTunes backup? Please explain in basic english i am a beginner

I have had my old Iphone 5s replaced with a new one but I would like to know how to extract my old contacts from the iTunes backup? Please explain in basic english i am a beginner

    Hey,
I think you will find that you have to have a debit/credit card stored on yur account regardless of whether your have iTunes Credit or want to purchase a free App. I don't know why, I assume its for ID verification or is part of the terms and conditions. I occasionally have to re-verify my credit card info even when just trying to run Update on one of my Apps or like I said downloading a free App.
If you need further clarification all you can do is contact iTunes Support:

  • My iphone4 performed 2 backups, one with all my stuff on it and one without.  How do I get my stuff from the previous backup?

In the process of updated to iOS 5, my iphone4 performed a backup, after installing IOS5 it performed ANOTHER backup (not sure why), but without all my stuff being synced from iTunes, now the backup file (and my phone) contain NOTHING!
How do I get the data from my previous backup back?!? Please Help!!  I have already looked into the backup fies on my PC and everything is from the second backup.
I really need my contacts and photos back

Ok. I have 2 hard drives and one of them died apparently so..not knowing what to do, I did chose reinstall Lion after command r open start-up. The whole thing is a mess but my computer is back up and running with the second hard drive. I had a time machine backup which I've been dragging stuff out of. i had to re enter serial numbers and do all sorts of initial set up stuff. 1) How do I get all of my icons (like my HD icon and external drives icons) to appear on my desktop again? I can only find them through a finder window. 2) i now have to type a password to get into my computer (user) - I 'm the only user and don't want to have to do that.
