Redo log transfer
How can I be sure that, my redo transport services has been enable and LGWR is transferring on another machine??
source:
ALTER SYSTEM SET LOG_ARCHIVE_DEST_2='SERVICE=DS02.BD.NET LGWR ASYNC OPTIONAL NOREGISTER
VALID_FOR=(ALL_LOGFILES,PRIMARY_ROLE)' SCOPE=SPFILE;
ALTER SYSTEM SET LOG_ARCHIVE_DEST_STATE_2=ENABLE SCOPE=SPFILE;
ALTER SYSTEM SET LOG_ARCHIVE_CONFIG='send' SCOPE=SPFILE;
destination:
ALTER SYSTEM SET LOG_ARCHIVE_DEST_2='LOCATION=/home/arc_dest/srl_dbs1 MANDATORY VALID_FOR=(STANDBY_LOGFILE,PRIMARY_ROLE)' SCOPE=SPFILE;
ALTER SYSTEM SET LOG_ARCHIVE_CONFIG='recieve' SCOPE=SPFILE;
ALTER SYSTEM SET LOG_ARCHIVE_DEST_STATE_2=ENABLE SCOPE=SPFILE;
this is what I have done.

we configured DataGuard in ASYNC mode as per the documentation from "http://www.orafaq.com/node/2030#comment-6448".
The problem is the redo log files is only transferd by applying the "Alter System switch logfile;" .
Is there any other option to apply redo files with out manually giving the above command.
we are new to DataGaurd .Please help.This is a forum for the Oracle Forms product. You probably want to post this on another Forum on OTN to get an answer.

DataGuard Windows 9201 - log file transfer interrupt with a big redo log
OS WINDOWS
Oracle 9201
Primary: service_name orcl1 db_name orcl1
Standby: service_name orcl2 db_name orcl1
Same dir structure distribute on different VMware machine but connect with a real physical fiber network enviorment, two node distance more than 20km.
LOG FILE - 100M
MAX PERFORMACE MODE
we can got succesful result when input 'alter system switch log file' manually, the log usually small than 20m.
but when we try to switch a full redo log the error occur, log can't transfer to standby site.
it's seem to a transfer interrupt by some unnameable reason.
we check the network ping, lsnrctl service_name status, dataguard configration and windows tcpip configration, but have no conclusion.
we will crzy!! help

Physical standby database standby redo log problem
Hello
We have a physical standby database , I've created some standby redo log files but my problem is that they aren't used,
their status in v$stanby_log view is UNASSIGNED
and I see this message (ORA-16086: standby database does not contain available standby log files) in primary database alert_log file
while when I run "alter system switch logfile" in the primary database it transfer redo logs to the physsical standby database
and archive log file will be created in standby database
I've even recreated the standby redo log files and I added new ones to them but the problem wasn't solved
Do you know what is problem ?

No space in recovery area for active standby redo logs
The primary database is operating in MAXIMUM PROTECTION
or MAXIMUM AVAILABILITY mode, and the standby database
does not contain adequate disk space in the recovery area
to safely archive the contents of the standby redo logfiles.
ORA-16086: standby database does not contain available standby log files
when I saw this line "No space in recovery area for active standby redo logs" I thought that STANDBY_ARCHIVE_DEST parameter points where that there is no enough space , but when I consider I found out that points a directory on disk a "sda" that has enough space , I don't know what that means

Online Redo logs instead of Standby Redo logs
RDBMS Version: 11.2.0.3/Platform : RHEL 6.3
To migrate a 3TB Database to a new DB server , we are going to use RMAN DUPLICATE.
Step1. Take full backup of DB + Standby Control file at primary site and transfer the Bkp files to Standby site
Step2. At standy site, we will run the RMAN duplicate target database for standby
After the above step, we don't want to create the standby redo logs because the newly restored DB in standby server is going to be the new Prod DB which application will be pointing to.
So, Can I skip the Standby Redo log creation part and create Online redo logs instead ?
As mentioned earlier, Our objective is not to create a proper Dataguard Standby DB setup. We just want to clone our DB to another server using RMAN Duplicate.Tom wrote:

Hi,
Take full backup of DB + Standby Control
We just want to clone our DB to another server using RMAN Duplicate
If you want only clone database of production, why you are take Standby controlfile?
If you don't want create standby database then, why you using DUPLICATE command with FOR STANDBY option.
You can use DUPLICATE command for clone database, without for standby option.
If you say no, we want create standby database and we will perform swithover,
then yes, you can use online redo logs for max performance mode.
and you can create standby redo logs on all database, but this redo logs will use by database when database role
is standby.

Physical standby with rman: location of redo logs
guys,
i use simple rman commands to create a physical standby database (i've attached the commands below). the problem is that on the physical standby, the location of the redo logs and standby redo logs differ from the primary.
(we use redo logs and standby redo logs as we are running in max. availability mode and want to be prepared for switchover/failover).
how do i backup/restore the database in a way that the redo logs are at the same place than on the primary database?
thanks for your help,
heri
backup on primary:
backup incremental level = 0 format '/tmp/transfer/td_%s_%p.bck' database;
restore on standby:
duplicate target database for standby NOFILENAMECHECK;Ogan,
thanks alot for your reply. I was not using the log_file_name_convert parameter as i am not aware how to use it in this scenario. the log files on the standby are generated randomly.
on the primary the log files are as follows:
/home/oracle/app/oracle/oradata/td/redo01.log
/home/oracle/app/oracle/oradata/td/redo02.log
/home/oracle/app/oracle/oradata/td/redo03.log
/home/oracle/app/oracle/oradata/td/standby_redo01.log
/home/oracle/app/oracle/oradata/td/standby_redo02.log
/home/oracle/app/oracle/oradata/td/standby_redo03.log
on the standby the logs look like:
/home/oracle/app/oracle/product/11.2.0/dbhome/dbs/TDSTBY/onlinelog/o1_mf_1_6b1f9mvc_.log
/home/oracle/app/oracle/product/11.2.0/dbhome/dbs/TDSTBY/onlinelog/o1_mf_2_6b1f9p36_.log
/home/oracle/app/oracle/product/11.2.0/dbhome/dbs/TDSTBY/onlinelog/o1_mf_3_6b1f9rdj_.log
/home/oracle/app/oracle/product/11.2.0/dbhome/dbs/TDSTBY/onlinelog/o1_mf_4_6b1f9v8r_.log
/home/oracle/app/oracle/product/11.2.0/dbhome/dbs/TDSTBY/onlinelog/o1_mf_5_6b1f9xms_.log
/home/oracle/app/oracle/product/11.2.0/dbhome/dbs/TDSTBY/onlinelog/o1_mf_6_6b1f9zxv_.log
the filenames on the standby are not predictable for me in any way, so how would i use log_file_name_convert?
thanks alot for your help! -
Adding redo logs for dataguard primary server
Dear all:
i have physical dataguard servers
i want to add new redologs for primary server with big size ..
please advice what will be the action with stand by server.
Thanks ,,Dear all:
i have physical dataguard servers
i want to add new redologs for primary server with
big size ..
please advice what will be the action with stand by
server.
Thanks ,,Most of these information are kept in the control file . You have to recreate your stand by control file after you added the new online redo logs. Transfer this to the standby server , with the the new online redo redo while you standby is down . Your standby system should be able to recognize it when it goes back to stand by mode. -
How do I manually archive 1 redo log at a time?
The database is configured in archive mode, but automatic archiving is turned off.
For both Oracle 901 and 920 on Windows, when I try to manually archive a single redo log, the database
archives as many logs as it can up to the log just before the current log:
For example:
SQL> select * from v$log order by sequence#;
GROUP# THREAD# SEQUENCE# BYTES MEMBERS ARC STATUS FIRST_CHANGE# FIRST_TIM
1 1 14 104857600 1 NO INACTIVE 424246 19-JAN-05
2 1 15 104857600 1 NO INACTIVE 425087 28-MAR-05
3 1 16 104857600 1 NO INACTIVE 425088 28-MAR-05

5 1 18 512000 1 NO INACTIVE 425100 28-MAR-05
6 1 19 512000 1 NO CURRENT 425102 28-MAR-05
6 rows selected.
SQL> alter system archive log next;
System altered.
SQL> select * from v$log order by sequence#;
GROUP# THREAD# SEQUENCE# BYTES MEMBERS ARC STATUS FIRST_CHANGE# FIRST_TIM
1 1 14 104857600 1 YES INACTIVE 424246 19-JAN-05
2 1 15 104857600 1 YES INACTIVE 425087 28-MAR-05
3 1 16 104857600 1 YES INACTIVE 425088 28-MAR-05

6 1 19 512000 1 NO CURRENT 425102 28-MAR-05
See - instead of only 1 log being archive, 4 of them were. Oracle behaves the same way if I use the "sequence" option:
SQL> select * from v$log order by sequence#;
GROUP# THREAD# SEQUENCE# BYTES MEMBERS ARC STATUS FIRST_CHANGE# FIRST_TIM
1 1 14 104857600 1 NO INACTIVE 424246 19-JAN-05

Is there some default system configuration property telling Oracle to archive as many logs as it can?
Thanks,
DGRThanks Yoann (and Syed Jaffar Jaffar Hussain too),
but I don't have a problem finding the group to archive or executing the alter system archive log command.
My problem is that Oracle doesn't work as I expect it.
This comes from the Oracle 9.2 online doc:
http://download-west.oracle.com/docs/cd/B10501_01/server.920/a96540/statements_23a.htm#2053642
"Specify SEQUENCE to manually archive the online redo log file group identified by the log sequence number integer in the specified thread."
This implies that Oracle will only archive the log group identified by the log sequence number I specify in the alter system archive log sequence statement. However, Oracle is archiving almost all of the log groups (see my first post for an example).
This appears to be a bug, unless there is some other system parameter that is configured (by default) to allow Oracle to archive as many log groups as possible.
As to the reason why - it is an application requirement. The Oracle db must be in archive mode, automatic archiving must be disabled and the application must control online redo log archiving.

Select from .. as of - using archived redo logs - 10g
Hi,
I was under the impression I could issue a "Select from .. as of" statement back in time if I have the archived redo logs.
I've been searching for a while and cant find an answer.
My undo_management=AUTO, database is 10.2.0.1, the retention is the default of 900 seconds as I've never changed it.
I want to query a table as of 24 hours ago so I have all the archived redo logs from the last 48 hours in the correct directory
When is issue the following query
select * from supplier_codes AS OF TIMESTAMP
TO_TIMESTAMP('2009-08-11 10:01:00', 'YYYY-MM-DD HH24:MI:SS')
I get a snapshot to old ORA-01555 error. I guess that is because my retention is only 900 seconds but I thought the database should query the archive redo logs or have I got that totally wrong?!
My undo tablespace is set to AUTOEXTEND ON and MAXSIZE UNLIMITED so there should be no space issues
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks
RobertIf you want to go back 24 hours, you need to undo the changes...

Log & Transfer of Canon HF 11: error message
Hi guys,
I just got a new canon HF 11 (basically the same as the HF 10) and i tried to import footage using Log & Transfer but every time I click "add clip to queue" it spins a grey icon for a few seconds which then turns to a red circle with an exclamation mark inside and says "Error: No Data". I have tried giving the clip an in and out mark but this doesn't help.
Any ideas,
ThanksI have had a similar problem with my Canon HG21 which has both hard disk and 32GB flash drive. My method is to copy files from the Hard Disk to the flash drive and then place the flash drive into a card reader. I was able to see FCE downloading in log and transfer for a second or two and then it went into an idle mode and never downloaded the file.
My solution was to delete ALL from from the flash drive followed by copying the videos and stills from the hard disk onto the clean flash drive. I realize you don't have the luxury of the hard disk, but perhaps you can extract the files using the Voltiac tool to clone the Canon structure from the camera and see if log and transfer will work directly from your hard disk on the Mac. -
How to disable write to redo log file in oracle7.3.4
in oracle 8, alter table no logged in redo log file like: alter table tablename nologging;
how to do this in oracle 7.3.4?

Thanks very much for your help guys. I appreciate it. unfortunately none of these commands worked for me. I kept getting error on clearing logs that redo log is needed to perform recovery so it can't be cleared. So I ended up restoring from earlier snapshot of my db volume. Database is now open.
Thanks again for your input.And now, as a follow-up, at a minimum you should make sure that all redo log groups have at least 3 members. Then, if you lose a single redo log file, all you have to do is shutdown the db and copy one of the good members (of the same group as the lost member) over the lost member.
And as an additional follow-up, if you value your data you will run in archivelog mode and take regular backups of the database and archivelogs. If you fail to do this you are saying that your data is not worth saving. -
Is There a Way to Run a Redo log for a Single Tablespace?
I'm still fairly new to Oracle. I've been reading up on the architecture and I am getting the hang of it. Actually, I have 2 questions.
1) My first question is..."Is there a way to run the redo log file...but to specify something so that it only applies to a single tablespace and it's related files?"
So, in a situation where, for some reason, only a single dbf file has become corrupted, I only have to worry about replaying the log for those transactions that affect the tablespace associated with that file.
2) Also, I would like to know if there is a query I can run from iSQLPlus that would allow me to view the datafiles that are associated with a tablespace.
Thanks1) My first question is..."Is there a way to run the

No You can't specify a redolog file to record the transaction entries for a particular tablespace.
In cas if a file gets corrupted.you need to apply all the archivelogs since the last backup plus the redologs to bring back the DB to consistent state.

The above will give you the number of datafiles that a tablespace is made of.
In your case you have created the tablespace iwth one datafile.

Log & Transfer with Mac OS 10.6.2
Having previously had a fully working, and it has to be said impressive, installation of FCE 4.0.1 I attempted to ingest some new footage recently. I had not used FCE for about 3 months as I had no need to.
FCE started up great and I was able to create a new project as well; but when I opened the Log & Transfer window and attempted to add the folder I'd copied from the camera's SD card, nothing. The folder name does not appear as the source at the top of the window and no files appear in the top list pane.
Now to troubleshoot here's my line of thought:-
1. The latest footage is corrupt.
2. The system has changed since Iast used FCE. (This is true and I will come to this soon)
3. The FCE install is corrupted.
So here's what I've done to address each of the above steps.
1. I returned to the last footage I'd successfully ingested and I could not add that footage's folder to the L&T window either, as a precaution I then trashed the preferences and tried again, still no good.
2. As stated above my system has changed as since the last time I used FCE I've upgraded to Mac OS 10.6 and subsequently 10.6.2 also I've installed Adobe Photoshop Elements 8.0. So to troubleshoot this I needed a test bed and so used a spare internal SATA drive as a new Startup Drive and performed the following.
i. Erased the drive and re-formated as Mac OS Extended (Journaled).
ii. Installed Mac OS 10.5.
iii. Patched 10.5 with three iterations of Software Update.
iv. Installed FCE 4.0.
v. Patched FCE to 4.0.1.
vi. Tested FCE and it worked perfectly, interesting but not the solution I would like.
vii. Installed Adobe Photoshop Elements 8.0 and then tested FCE and it worked perfectly.
viii. Updated Adobe Photoshop Elements 8.0 and then tested FCE and it worked perfectly.
ix. Upgraded Mac OS to 10.6 and then tested FCE and it failed to add folders to the L&T pane.
x. Patched Mac OS to 10.6.2 with three more iterations of Software Update and then tested FCE and it failed to add folders to the L&T pane.
Ok a short pause in the overly detailed breakdown of what has occurred (I don't want anybody to be in any doubt as to my veracity in troubleshooting).
So as far as the above sequence is concerned Mac OS 10.6.x does not support FCE and AVCHD media, as an added 'feature' after two attempts at adding a path to the footage FCE crashes completely.
Maybe a 'clean' clean install is what is needed.
xi. Erased the drive and re-formated as Mac OS Extended (Journaled) again.
xii. Installed Mac OS 10.6 and patched with three iterations of Software Update.
xiii. Installed FCE 4.0 and patched with Software Update to 4.0.1.
xiv. Tested FCE and it still will not add a path to any media and crashes after a handful of attempts at getting it to do so.
So the third of possible causes i.e. FCE install corrupted is excluded as cause 2 Mac OS problems are the culprit.
Am I the only person with a professional spec (albeit a little long in the tooth, yet very capable) machine; built with the latest OS as per manufacturers recommendations; FCE software installed as per best practice and the media stored on a dedicated drive in the AVHCD file structure (as a footnote the software will not "see" the camera either) who is unable to use FCE as it will not do what it says on the tin. Unless the tin is 10.5.
Spleen vented is anybody able to help?Impressive - you've been very methodical & thorough - I wish most posts were as thoroughly detailed as yours! But something else is going on. I have FCE 4.0.1 on 10.6.2 and it's working perfectly; ditto for a lot of other people here.
You mentioned that you +"attempted to add the folder I'd copied from the camera's SD card"+ - have you tried Log&Transfer directly from your camcorder? If not, try that and let us know what happens (or not).
When you copied that folder from your SD card, did you copy the +entire folder structure+ (all the way from the root of the SD card) or just the folder containing the video? That could be the problem (you need the entire folder structure for AVCHD video, not just the folder containing the MTS files.) What camcorder are you using? -

DROP and recreate the database. It is a *new* database without any data.
Check what datafile locations and redo log file locations you specify when creating the new database. Check if you have permissions and enough disk space.
