Reference texts in messages.en.properties file

Hi,
I've got a peculiar issue. I'm trying to access a variable/property/reference
in my VM file like below:
<p class="warning">${FailureWarning}</p>
And FailureWarning is defined in messages.en.properties file as
# Custom Warning Messages
FailureWarning=Session status fail, additional data entry not permitted
However, when rendered on the UI, the message is contained with square
brackets. This does not happen with any other text (if I were to change the
value for FailureWarning).
[Session status fail, additional data entry not permitted]
Does the text hold a special meaning in OPA/Velocity rendering?
Regards,
Ajay

Each message is treated like any other key and value in Velocity.  A value will consist of either a string *or* a comma-separated list of strings (see Velocity - Developer's Guide).  What you have defined is a list consisting of 2 strings -  "Session status fail" and " additional data entry not provided", so Velocity will render these values within square brackets to indicate this is a list of strings.  You need to escape the comma with a preceding '\' to have Velocity treat this as a single string:
# Custom Warning Messages
FailureWarning=Session status fail\, additional data entry not permitted
You will see the escaped comma in the values for case-saved-label, NullTemplateError and NoActiveSessionError.
Hope this helps,
Brad

  • Is it possible to reference environment variables in the .properties files?

    Here’s what I’d like to do…
    In the application.properties files, I tell OPA where the docgen server is via this setting:
    # Location of the Document Generation Server
    plugin.docgen.server.url=http://bipDev/document-generation-server/
    Note that this is the setting from my Dev environment.
    Because I have separate DocGen servers for each environment, I have to maintain separate copies of this file for each environment. For example, my Prod file contains this setting:
    # Location of the Document Generation Server
    plugin.docgen.server.url=http://bipPrd/document-generation-server/
    Notice that it’s a very slight changes. I’d like to use something like this instead:
    # Location of the Document Generation Server
    plugin.docgen.server.url=http://%BIP_SERVER%/document-generation-server/
    Obviously, I’d create an environment variable on each server to accommodate the setting. For example, on my Prod machine, I’d create this environment variable:
    BIP_SERVER = bipPrd

    Unfortunately environment variables cannot be used in the OPA .properties files. The only way to do this is to maintain separate properties for your different environments.

  • Issue in reading multiple time properties file

    Use Case:
    I have a page in which i have to show some Outage Messages on page. So I have configured outage message in properties files. This message should me rendered each time when it finds that properties file in class path or it finds the values w.r.t their keys.
    So what I decide that I shall write java method and call this method on Loading the page but here what happen is that whenever that page is load each time that reader file will call , that will create memory leak .
    So, anyone help me on this. What will be the best approach for that reading multiple times properties file?
    I will be grateful for any help you can provide
    Thanks

    Hi,
    have a bean at applicationScope, somewhat like this
    import java.util.HashMap;
    public class ApplnProperties {
        private HashMap _propMap;
        public HashMap getPropMap() {
            if(_propMap == null){
                //read the properties file and populate _propMap
            return _propMap;
    }here we put condition _propMap == null so it would be called only once during application lifecycle.
    and on page you can refer the prop map like following
    #{beanName.propMap['KEY1']}Regards,

  • How can i read comments from properties file in the right order??

    Hello
    I want to build a console that read a properties file and print to the screen the property name, property value and property description and the developer can change the name or the value or the description of the property and update the property file.
    But the problem in using the properties class that it doesnt read the comment and not save the properties in their order so I cant couple description and name of the property.
    Does any one know any utility that do the job or know how to solve the reading the comments problem???
    Thank you a lot?

    sorry but i dont understand how the solution of using
    a dot ( property_key.description ) helping me to
    solve the problem?
    please try to explain it agin.

    So i'm as developer imagine that somebody edit properties in GUI or console. So you have 3 text fields: property name, property value, and propety description. Then developer save edit changes, then text fields maped to properties file and:
    text field "property name" and text field "property value" construct property:
    name=valuetext field "property name" adding ".description" and text field "property description" construct property:
    name.description=descriptionFor one described property, you will have put two properties.

  • UIResources.properties file

    I would like to create a "Global help" page for my ADFBC/JSF application. The page will have more than 64000 characters. Is it a good idea to keep that text in the UIResources.properties file? I am following SRDemo application as the standards for doing things.
    Does changing the "value" in the UIResources.properties file require re-deploying of the application?
    Please advice!
    Thanks.

    Hi,
    The use of UIResources.properties make easy to change the texts you want to display, also for an help page that should be useful.
    If you think one UIResources can not contain all that you need (i don't know if there is a limit?), it's easy to add more resource files and you can use these separated file for organize the text they contain.
    For the need of a redeployement, i'm not sure but i don't think it's needed.

  • Format Text in properties File

    I have a large amount of text for an element in the properties file that I'd like to format. I'm retrieving this value and displaying it in the tip of a panelLabelAndMessage ADF component. For example, in the properties file I have the following:
    displayparagraph=This is the first paragraph.This is a second paragraph I'd like on a new line.
    I'd like this text to be broken apart onto new lines when it displays in the tip element, like this:
    This is the first paragraph.
    This is the second paragraph I'd like on a new line.
    I'm not sure how to go about doing this or if it's even possible. I've tried placing \n, \\n, \r, \r\n, etc...inbetween the "." and "This" but this doesn't appear to work.
    I'd also like to a portion of that same message be underlined as a link...not sure if that is possible either.
    I have to keep the text in the properties file for translation purposes and I can't really break up the sentences into seperate elements to ensure that translations doesn't lose the meaning of the tip.

    Hi,
    If you set the escape property to false on your output components you can put HTML code in your properties file for the components that you want to format differently.
    Not all components can do this but the key ones like OutputText do.

  • Best way to load messages - properties file or database?

    Hi Guys,
    I have a debate with my colleague about best way to load/keep GUI messages.
    As we known, all those messages are in properties file, web tier will handle the messages loading to GUI.
    However, my colleague suggested, we could save all the messages in a database table, when application starts up, it will load all the messages from database.
    Please help me figure out pros/cons for both ways? What's the best to deal with message loading?
    Thanks

    allemande wrote:
    Please help me figure out pros/cons for both ways?There is no big difference with regard to performance and memory use. Both are after all cached in memory at any way. I wouldn't worry about it.
    The biggest difference is in the maintainability and reusability. Propertiesfiles are just textbased files. You can just edit the messages using any text editor. It is only a bit harder to wrap it in a UI like thing, but you can achieve a lot using java.util.Properties API with its load() and store() methods. Another concern is that it cannot be used anymore if you switch from platform language (e.g. Java --> C# or so) without writing some custom tool to read Java style properties files at any way. Databases, on the other hand, require SQL knowledge or some UI tool to edit the contents. So you have to create a UI like thing at any way if you want to let someone with less knowledge edit the messages. This is more time consuming. But it can universally be used by any application/platform by just using SQL standard.

    Hi iainsinclair
    Thanx for explaining ur experience to me for my previous posted topic . U did mentioned a text editor called NETBEANS PROPERTY TEXT EDITOR .
    * Can u please explain more about this editor . Is this editor specific to some encodings ....
    * U said that as u enter the Japanese characters in ur keyboard the editor saves the characters in the unicode format. Are the characters displayed in their glyphs or as \u????.
    * Can u give me a list of languages f or which this text editor can be used . Bcoz u had suggested that it can be used for chinese also .
    * I need more info about a Japanese Computer and keyboard. I think we both are in the same level in this topic I18N . Iam working for I18N project in my company. Hi, I'm happy if I can help.
    * Can u please explain more about this editor . Is this editor specific to some encodings ....
    It's the netbeans IDE from www.netbeans.org it's a free integrated development environment for java. It includes many editors, for .java files, .properties files and many others. It is designed to accept text in the non-ascii format and convert it for use in properties files.
    * U said that as u enter the Japanese characters in ur keyboard the editor saves the characters in the unicode format. Are the characters displayed in their glyphs or as \u????.
    They are saved as ascii characters, not glyphs. For example, I entered MSGothic (MS&#12468;&#12471;&#12483;&#12463;) in japanese using net beans and it looks like this when I use a normal text editor: MS\u30B4\u30B7\u30C3\u30AF
    * Can u give me a list of languages f or which this text editor can be used . Bcoz u had suggested that it can be used for chinese also .
    It should work for any language that your windows/linux system has support for (need the right fonts for a start). My system is native japanese, so I have all the required japanese fonts installed. If you want to use (for example) Chinese on an English system, you'll have to get the fonts and probably you will need to modify the jre/lib/font.properties file.
    * I need more info about a Japanese Computer and keyboard. I think we both are in the same level in this topic I18N . Iam working for I18N project in my company. This is my official mail ID- [email protected] .Can u send me ur mail Id so that we make sure that this forum members are not disturbed by our discussion .
    I don't think it's disturbing anyone. Forums are all about sharing information, and there is a lack of experience of I18N in the broader comminity, I feel. This isn't a busy forum... ;-)
    Don't forget to look for the article written by John O'Conner called 'Displaying Text' I don't have the URL handy but it was posted on this forum recently. It's required reading.

  • How to load some text from properties file ?

    Hi again,
    problem is i dont know how can i load a text from properties file like #{xxx['key']} in managed bean, i tried to find some solution but havent seen this kind of use this file in java code. Is it supposed to work only for labels in jspx pages ?
    thanks for help ...

    Hi,
    a managed bean is nothing special from any other Java file. However, if you look at SRDemo, you find a nice way of using the same message bundle that you use on the page
    See the messageFromBundle() method in the JSFUtils class of the UserInterface project
    Frank
    P.s. You can download and setup SRDemo from JDeveloper help--> check for updates

  • In a new Application, the ApplicationResources_en.properties file is not having the constraint messages created

    Hi Everyone:
              We are using JDev 11.1.2 and JHeadstart 11.1.2.  We have been having a multitude of problems when running applications through the migrator (and we have now been told by an Oracle consultant that the migrator is problematic), so we are trying to re-write things from scratch to bring them over from 11.1.1.4 to 11.1.2.
              I have been working on a simple application from scratch and discovered that the messages for constraints on the entities that I am using are not showing up in the ApplicationResources_en.properties.file.  We noticed a similar thing with converting an application using the migrator and that post is found here - java.lang.NullPointerException ADF_FACES-60097 message ***WITH SOLUTION*** -.
              However, I didn't get a single reply to that thread.
              I initially thought it was a migration issue, but this application is from scratch.  Whenever I tried to input an invalid value into a page column, the following exception would be received.
    "java.lang.NullPointerException  ADF_FACES-60097:For more information, please see the server's error log for an entry beginning with: ADF_FACES-60096:Server Exception during PPR, #"
               This Null Pointer turned out to be the missing message from the ApplicationResources_en.properties file.  In the new application I just wrote, I had to manually edit to add the following lines to the ApplicationResources_en.properties file and the application no longer gives me the error if I input an invalid value.

    Hi Everyone:
               I have done some further testing.  We are using a re-usable Business Components .jar file to access our entities.  We import the .jar file into the project and create the ViewObjects and ViewLinks from that .jar file.
                It APPEARS that a test case using the HRSchema and using the Entities & Associates generates the constraint error messages, but when I use the .jar file of re-usable business components imported into the project, those constraint error messages are not created in the ApplicationResources_en.properties file.  I have created two testcases as well as the re-usable .jar file that I can send to you to show what I mean.
                This behaviour seems to have shown up in 11.1.2 as there was no problem before this.
                 Please let me know where you'd like me to upload the testcases.
                 Thank you.

    Hi,
    I had a similar error just a few days ago. I could solve it by replicating the datasources again and activating the transfer structures via rs_transtru_activate_all. After that the load went fine.

  • How to get File Reference of a properties file from EJB

    Hi,
    I am using Sun App server 7 with Oracle 9i. I am keeping all my SQL statements in a properties file from which I am loading it while making a database operation from Stateless beans. My problem is I am not able to get the reference of the properties file. Here is the code through which I am getting the SQL statements loaded to a cache.
    String sqlFileName = "SQL.properties";
    sqlCache.load(new FileInputStream(sqlFileName));
    From the cache I am sending the SQL statement depending on the key value. But the problem is I have to keep the SQL.properties file on the App Server config directory of the instance where the server.xml file resides. Otherwise it is not able to find the properties file. But I don't want to put the properties file on the config directory of the server instance. Please help how to get the properties file from the packakge. My file is residing inside a package com.company.sql . Botht the properties file and the class accessing the file are residing in the same package. Please help how to get the reference of the file with out putting the file in the config directory.
    Thanks
    Amit Patnaik

    Just wanted to warn you of the hazards if you read a file from EJB
    So please make sure that these hazards will not affect your application. However the solution suggested to use getResourceStream() concurs with ejbSpec
    This snippet is from suns blueprint on ejb
    Why can't EJBs read and write files and directories in the filesystem? And why can't they access file descriptors?
    Enterprise beans aren't allowed to access files primarily because files are not transactional resources. Allowing EJBs to access files or directories in the filesystem, or to use file descriptors, would compromise component distributability, and would be a security hazard.
    Another reason is deployability. The EJB container can choose to place an enterprise bean in any JVM, on any machine in a cluster. Yet the contents of a filesystem are not part of a deployment, and are therefore outside of the EJB container's control. File systems, directories, files, and especially file descriptors tend to be machine-local resources. If an enterprise bean running in a JVM on a particular machine is using or holding an open file descriptor to a file in the filesystem, that enterprise bean cannot easily be moved from one JVM or machine to another, without losing its reference to the file.
    Furthermore, giving EJBs access to the filesystem is a security hazard, since the enterprise bean could potentially read and broadcast the contents of sensitive files, or even upload and overwrite the JVM runtime binary for malicious purposes.
    Files are not an appropriate mechanism for storing business data for use by components, because they tend to be unstructured, are not under the control of the server environment, and typically don't provide distributed transactional access or fine-grained locking. Business data is better managed using a persistence interface such as JDBC, whose implementations usually provide these benefits. Read-only data can, however, be stored in files in a deployment JAR, and accessed with the getResource() or getResourceAsStream() methods of java.lang.Class.
    Hope this info helps!

    I have a lot of grief with this version of Windows Media Player.
    It is very buggy and frustrating to use.
    I have my Music library on a QNAP NAS, which is as reliable as they come.
    System notifications make it not save changes.  It also does not do a good job of interpreting albums and artists from folders.  Changes to track names are not saved, nor are tracks moved to other albums, renamed albums, changes to genre, artist
    or date.  It separates and merges albums/tracks without sense or reason.  Some changes I've made up to 4 times, then closed WMP and re-started my machine to check if it has/hasn't saved the changes.  Often it has not.
    This is the first time I've used WMP in this capacity, and I do not recommend it.
    New service pack please.

    Hi
    I'm using myfaces implementation version 1.1.3 with JBoss-4.0.3 (Tomcat 5.5).
    I have a single .ear file, containing several .war and .jar files. My main application is foo.jar, and I have several web archives, say foo_a.war and foo_b.war for example.
    Both these web archives are referenced in application.xml correct (i.e. both have a different web-uri and context-root elements).
    Both foo_a.war and[i] foo_b.war have properties files under their WEB-INF folder, with the same names (say messages_en.properties for example). However I have different values for the same keys in these properties files.
    For example, I have a label called 'product_name', appearing in both messages_en.properties files.
    Under foo_a.war it is:
    product_name=foowhile under foo_b.war it is
    product_name=barThe problem I'm experiencing is that although I'm approaching the URL of foo_b, I still see the product name of foo_a. It appears as if my application does not recognize the properties files of foo_b.war.
    However, when I don't deploy foo_a.war - I see the correct text.
    Did anyone ever encounter such a problem? Am I configuring something wrong?
