Refresh in v$logfile

Hello,
I'm working with Oracle 10g express edition on SUSE Linux 9.
I'm testing recovering from a loss of redo log file, so I removed a control file member then I queried the v$logfile but all the redo members appears online (???)
SQL> select * from v$logfile;

It has to appears as an INVALID member.
Is it normal??

  • After updating to 10.10.2, my OpenGL applications do not work, and there are problems with window updates/refresh in App Store, and many applications, Google Chrome is unusable.

    After performing the OS X 10.10.2 update, OpenGL applications, for example Starry Night Pro fail to run, there are numerous windows update/refresh problems (incomplete refresh, remnants of window/frame borders), and some applications, for example Google Chrome are unusable, as cursor motion in the application window causes the display to flash horizontal bars in the window.
    I've tried a variety of things, including downloading the most current release of Xcode, turning on/off transparency in Accessibility, graphics switching, and a few other things, but the problem persists.
    The App Store display behaves similarly.  I am running a MacBook Pro.
    This is the output from EtreCheck:

  • Refresh Schema in Primary (and Logical Standby)

    Does anyone have a recommendation for the best way to refresh a 16Gb schema in a Primary Database that has a logical standby?
    I attempted to refresh our main schema in our Primary by using IMPDP. I tried to follow the same steps as I would if I had to upgrade a Primary database with a Logical Standby in place. I defered the Log archive log dest state associated with the logical standby, stopped the SQL Apply on the standby and disabled Data Guard, then dropped the schema in the Standby, created and imported the schema. i then performed the drop, recreate and import in the Primary. After that I did a DBMS_LOGSTDBY.BUILD on the Primary. Finally I enabled DG, restarted the apply and enabled the log arch dest on the primary.
    One issue I did have was that i did not defer the archivelogs until after the import had started so it did send some archives over - of course DG was disabled and the apply was off but now the status of DG is normal but i have a big gap in Last Received Log and Last Applied Log and of the missing archives, the oldest have 'Committed Transactions Applied', newer ones have 'Not Applied' and the newest have 'Not Received'.
    I think I'm hosed but I am confused on the best approach. I did try just to perform the import on the Primary previously (last year) but I remember that the volume of data killed the replication.
    This is 10.2.0.4 on Windows 2003 Server (64bit)
    Thanks

    i suppossed that you did : alter database open resetlog; right?
    In first place, try to see any error in redo transport:
    alter system switch logfile;
    select status, error from v$archive_dest where dest_id = 2;
    any error?

  • Portlets don't refresh sometimes...

    Hi,
    When I first deployed a new WSRP portlet, it worked. However, when I redeployed it and went to view it on the portal page, it wouldn't refresh. I put that aside to work on something else (it's been almost a week since then), and today, magically, I redeployed the portlet numerous times and it refreshed without any problems! However, then I had to add some libraries to my portlet provider instance and restart it, and now portlets aren't refreshing again.
    Any ideas what could be happening? I've even tried refreshing the portlet repository and restarting the entire set of app server instances (via Restart All) and that didn't help. It's not browser cache either.
    Thanks,
    -mm

    Well my experiance is that I dont have to refresh the provider everytime.
    I have got my development environment setup like this:
    My pc running JDeveloper
    test server A running OC4J
    test server B running Oracle Portal
    From my pc I deploy to test server A, on test server B I added a remote provider. I only
    need to refresh this if I edit something in the provider.xml. If I change some java code in my
    portlet All I need to do is deploy it to test server A.
    But this is all for PDK, not JSR168, not sure where WSRP fits in, its calling portlets remotely,
    but what standard is it.
    And about adding libraries, I've also done that, adding libraries to my OC4J server. You'll need
    to restart the instance to get the libraries loaded. Btw, you can also check your instance logfiles.
    On my first try adding libraries I discovered through the log that I put them in the wrong path.

  • During daily refresh/clone alter database rename file genrating logs under $ORACLE_HOME/dbs with name c-1437102747-20130920-16

    Did anyone have seen this behavior?
      DB version : 11.1.0.7
      OS : HP-UX Itanum
      EBS -11.5.10.2
    We are doing daily refresh/clone of a database instance from production. Recently we are seeing the growth of $ORACLE_HOME/dbs directory during this
    refresh.   During investigation we find out that
      1) When we rename the database files after database restoration. Each below command genrating the 24MB of log file under $ORACLE_HOME/dbs.
      Command :
      alter database rename file '/db02/prod/XDB.dbf' to '/db02/test/XDB.dbf';
    alter database rename file '/db02/prod/a_archive01.dbf' to '/db02/test/a_archive01.dbf';

      2) After few minutes, these logs got removed from the directory.
      3) Did not find anything unusual in the alert log.

    These are controlfile autobackups.   Every time you make a physical change to the database structure, an autobackup is created.  In 11.2, the frequency is reduced -- for example if you make 5 changes in quick succession, one autobackup is created.
    CONTROLFILE AUTOBACKUP ON    would be visible when you do a SHOW ALL in rman.

  • Unable to refresh from profile

    When I attempt to connect a Solaris 10 Update 4 client to my Sun iPlanet Directory Server 5.2 LDAP server, using the following configuration:

    NS_LDAP_BIND_TIME= 10
    It works fine, and all information the client needs from the server is fully accessible. I can log in as an LDAP user, and the hosts table and automounter are updated properly. However, I receive this error message in the messages log when ldap_cachemgr tries to update the profile:

    The SciDevGrid profile in the LDAP server (cn=SciDevGrid,ou=profile,dc=c-noofs.gc.ca) has the following configuration:
    (the passwd and group ou's are inherited from the default profile via serviceSearchDescriptor entries)
    cn = SciDevGrid
    authenticationMethod = simple;sasl/DIGEST-MD5
    bindTimeLimit = 10

    serviceSearchDescriptor = passwd:ou=People,ou=Default,dc=c-noofs.gc.ca
    serviceSearchDescriptor = group:ou=group,ou=Default,dc=c-noofs.gc.ca
    If I go into the LDAP server and modify the SciDevGrid profile to give defaultSearchBase the value "dc=c-noofs.gc.ca", the cachemgr error messages will stop. That leads me to believe this is a configuration problem. Has anyone run across this problem before?
    Basically, what I am trying to achieve is a "default" profile which contains users and groups which apply to all LDAP-connected machines. Other profiles will inherit these attributes from the default profile, while providing additional configuration (automount maps and host table) specific to each compute grid we have.
    Thanks in advance for any advice you can provide,

    Or if you haven't got GRID
    1. Create A Backup Control File Script.
    First you need to obtain a script that will create a copy of the existing control file. This is usually carried out with the SVRMGRL utility using the following commands:
         CONNECT INTERNAL
         ALTER DATABASE BACKUP CONTROLFILE TO TRACE RESETLOGS;
    This creates a file in the trace file directory. The file usually has the extension '.trc' and will be located either in the directory defined by the parameter 'user_dump_dest', or if this parameter is undefined it will be in $ORACLE_HOME/rdbms/log. Edit this file with your favourite editor and remove the crud. Then rename it as "ctrl<NEW_SID>.sql," where <NEW_SID> will be the ORACLE_SID of the copied database.
    2. Modify The Script Created In The Previous Step.
    The CREATE CONTROLFILE command in the script ctrl<NEW_SID>.sql contains SQL, which might look something like this:
         CREATE CONTROLFILE REUSE DATABASE "OLD_SID" RESETLOGS ARCHIVELOG
         MAXLOGFILES 32
         MAXLOGMEMBERS 2
         MAXDATAFILES 32
         MAXINSTANCES 16
         MAXLOGHISTORY 1815
         LOGFILE
         GROUP 1 'E:\ORACLE\ORADATA\OLD_SID\REDO03.LOG' SIZE 1M,
         GROUP 2 'E:\ORACLE\ORADATA\OLD_SID\REDO02.LOG' SIZE 1M,
         GROUP 3 'E:\ORACLE\ORADATA\OLD_SID\REDO01.LOG' SIZE 1M
         DATAFILE
         'E:\ORACLE\ORADATA\OLD_SID\SYSTEM01.DBF',
         'E:\ORACLE\ORADATA\OLD_SID\RBS01.DBF',
         'E:\ORACLE\ORADATA\OLD_SID\TEMP01.DBF',
         'E:\ORACLE\ORADATA\OLD_SID\TOOLS01.DBF',
         'E:\ORACLE\ORADATA\OLD_SID\INDX01.DBF',
         'E:\ORACLE\ORADATA\OLD_SID\DR01.DBF',
         'E:\ORACLE\ORADATA\OLD_SID\WORK01.DBF',
         'E:\ORACLE\ORADATA\OLD_SID\TEMP02.DBF'
         CHARACTER SET WE8ISO8859P1
    Where the string <OLD_SID> is the Oracle SID of the original database. This should be changed to <NEW_SID>. Normallly this will be contained somewhere in the full filespec (path + filename) of all redo logs, data logs and control files. If it isn't then it should have been. This entire document assumes that you have the SID somewhere in the full filespec of these crucial files and furthermore that there are no embedded spaces or other weird characters in these filespecs. If you failed to observe these universal conventions when you setup your database, you should not try to use any of the procedures outlined in this document.
    3. Copy The Existing Database To The New Location.
    This will be a "cold" copy. So obviously you should make sure that the database is shutdown and all services are stopped before attempting to "cold" copy the database.
    If the copy is on the same host, you can use the DOS copy command (once the instance is shutdown). If you are lack the manual dexterity required for a keyboard you can copy the files with a mouse. If the target is a remote host then you will have to copy to a mass storage device or copy across the network.
    On the target host you need to copy all parameter files and all files mentioned above to their new location. Make sure you preserve ownership and permissions. The copied init<OLD_SID>.ora should be renamed to init<NEW_SID>.ora, and any parameter files pointed to by an ifile parameter (e.g. parameter files such as config<OLD_SID>.ora) should be renamed to contain <NEW_SID> (e.g. config<NEW_SID>.ora).
    The datafiles and redo log files from the pervious step also need to be renamed to contain the <NEW_SID> in the full filespec.
    4. Set Up Parameter Files For The New Database
    There may be several parameters that need to be edited in init<NEW_SID>.ora. In particular you will need to edit the control_files parameter so that it points to the name and location that you want to use for the new control files. You will also have to change the DB_NAME parameter in init<NEW_SID>.ora. Change it to the newname for your database. Usually this corresponds the <NEW_SID>. Any 'ifile' parameters will need to be edited to point to the new name of the include file in the new location.
    5. Create The Control File For The New Database.
    Now edit the file ctrl<NEW_SID>.sql and strip out everything up to and including the STARTUP NOMOUNT command. Remove the ALTER DATABASE OPEN command and everything after it. This leaves a command which just creates the controlfile.
    Now change all the appropriate instances of <OLD_SID> to <NEW_SID>. Unless you have a very good reason for doing so, you should make the database name the same as <NEW_SID>. Save this script in an area where you will find it again.
    Make sure that your ORACLE_SID is set to <NEW_SID>. Then use the SVRMGRL utility to run the following commands:
         STARTUP NOMOUNT
         @ctrl<NEW_SID>
    6. Create The Services For NEW_SID
    Create the services "OracleService<Sid>" and the "OracleStart<Sid>" for "NEW_SID" with the following command:
    oradim -new -sid <NEW_SID> -intpwd <password> -startmode auto -pfile <path_name>
    7. Run 'CREATE CONTROLFILE' For <NEW_SID>
    Make sure that your current directory is the one that contains ctrl<NEW_SID>.sql
    Set your ORACLE_SID to <NEW_SID>
    Startup SVRMGRL and enter the following:
         CONNECT INTERNAL
         STARTUP NOMOUNT PFILE=<full path>\init<NEW_SID>.ora
         @ctrl<NEW_SID>
         ALTER DATABASE OPEN RESETLOGS;
    Automating This Process.
    Creating a clone of an Oracle Database is the type of thing that you might wish to carry out regularly. you might do this on a regular basis because:
    * You wish to create a test instance of your production system.
    * You wish to create another working copy of your production system for reporting purposes or for some form of off-line processing.
    Obviously if you had to do this regularly you would write a script. If you are proficient at writing CMD scripts you could write a .cmd or .bat file to carry out these steps.
    You would have to clobber the <NEW_SID> instance before you created the clone. But that could be easily accomplished in a CMD script. However some of the things that would be cumbersome in a CMD script would be:
    * Changing the CREATE CONTROLFILE script when your database is altered (e.g. when you add a datafile to a tablespace).
    * Creating a third copy (e.g. NEW_SID1).
    * Creating a copy from an entirely different database.
    Obviously these contingincies can be handled ... but usually it means re-writing or re-creating the CMD script.
    Perl is so versatile that it does not have these problems.
    coldarch.pl
    The coldarch perl script creates a cold archive of an Oracle database on Windows NT/2000. The archive is a separate directory. It could be on the same machine as the host. However, in the interest of data integrity, it would make more sense to place it on a remote host (via the network).
    The script relies on site specific variables that are set in the common.pl file.
    The coldarch command is intended for incorporation into a script file. Ideally it should be incorporated into a routine backup schedule. However, if it is being invoked from a command line, the syntax would be as follows:
         coldarch intrnl_passwd db_name
    Where:
    intrnl_passwd is the Internal password of the database.
    db_name is the database_name (should also be the SID).
    The logic of the script is as follows:
    1. Validate the command line parameters and the common.pl variables.
    2. Create a lock file, to prevent a second copy of the program from running.
    3. Initialise strings for a logfile and a Header File (for the archive directory)
    4. Use SQL queries to gather information about control_files, datafiles, redo logs and locations of important files.
    5. Create a script that will can CREATE CONTROL file
    6. Shutdown the database.
    7. Add the datafiles to the zip archive.
    8. Copy the parameter files and included files (ifiles) to the archive directory.
    9. Add the control file and redo logs to the zip archive.
    10. Depending on the value of the variable $OPEN_TYPE, open the database. Some sites may choose not to open the database, because the coldarch procedure is integrated into the backup schedule. The variable $OPEN_TYPE is hard-coded in the coldarch script.
    coldclone.pl
    The coldclone perl script restores a cold archive of an Oracle database to a Windows NT/2000 host. The Target SID must differ from the source SID.
    The script relies on the same site specific variables that the coldarch script relies on. These are set in the common.pl file.
    The coldclone command is intended for incorporation into a script file. If it is being invoked from the command line, the syntax would be as follows:
         coldclone src_dir intrnl_passwd db_name
    Where:
    src_dir is the directory where the cold arhive resides.
    intrnl_passwd is the Internal password of the database.
    db_name is the database_name (should also be the SID).
    The logic of the script is as follows:
    1. Validate the command line parameters and the common.pl variables.
    2. Verify that the database is shutdown.
    3. Create a lock file, to prevent a second copy of the program from running.
    4. Initialise strings for a logfile.
    5. Parse the archive header, to determine the location of various files.
    6. Verify that the database is a clone -- This script has been expressly written to create a clone. You would need a diffent script to do a restore.
    7. Completely clobber the existing database (use the oradim utility to blow it away). You have passed the point of no return.
    8. Unpack the datafiles from the zip archive.
    9. Copy the parameter files and included files (ifiles) to the archive directory.
    10. Construct an SQL query from the trace file (created by coldarch), which contains the CREATE CONTROLFILE.
    11. Create the database anew with oradim. Start it up (NOMOUNT) and run the CREATE CONTROLFILE script. Open the database. (ALTER DATABASE OPEN).

  • SYS, SYSTEM and SYSAUX when full database refresh.

    I took full export from database using below command
    expdp "'/ as sysdba'" full=Y directory=DPUMP_DIR dumpfile=expdp_11032011.dmp logfile=expdp_11032011.log Now, I need to import this file to an other database.
    When do schema refresh we usually drop all the object in that schema and start refresh, but when doing fullback up, do we need to drop all user?
    what about sys, system and sysaux user?

    user3636719 wrote:
    So, the tables in the SYS and SYSTEM will remain same when we refresh?
    Structure will not be modified but contents will be automatically modified when DLL is executed when importing.
    And do we have to drop other user before we import?Applications schemas that you have created should be dropped. In general don't modify any schema that is directly managed by Oracle such as SYS or SYSTEM or any schema used by some database option like Oracle Text, Oracle Spatial, etc.

  • Table refresh Using Network Link

    Hi All,
    I am using 11g 11.1.0.6 database and I am usning network link to refresh few tables. The requirement is something like , on production , we have META schema
    and on Test we have meta_qa schema. meta on prod has five tables , for example tab1... tab5. now, i need to refresh these tables in meta_qa on test.
    we are also using one job , which is doing the same thing , but here the only difference is , we don't have meta_qa schema on prod database.
    regards

    Thanks Justin for the inputs, but I still not out of the woods.

  • Recover after loosing All Logfiles

    After loosing ALL redo logfiles from ALL Redo log groups, Is it necessary to restore the whole database ? How should i proceed ?

    OK, I don't know if I'm dense, I'm so rusty I really need a refresher, or it's an 11g thing.  Previous to this I did a startup, shutdown immediate, then renamed the redo logs at the OS level (hp-ux).

  • How to Enhance or Speedup Datapump Schema Refresh

    Hi All,
    My environment is Oracle 10g Rel2 on RAC (Linux 5), central Storage... We are doing Datapump Schema refresh(Export) with parallel and excluding only grants; parameters. Is there any possibility to enhace the import process by importing metadata and data separately. We tried Parallel option, but still import takes much longer to complete. Is it anything to do with breaking import in two parts. But i dont know how to break the import task.
    Kindly reply with appropriate examples..Would appreciate your response.
    Thanks,
