Refurb EA6900 router password?

Hello all!
Decided to extend my wireless network by adding a secondary router as a wireless access point. Ended up with a refurb unit (long story). Anyway I am completely unable to start the so called Smart WiFi setup. No matter how many times I do a factory reset or how long I keep the reset button down I never get the initial setup screen at www.linksyssmartwifi.com. I get the login screen. I even created a Linksys account but of course there are no routers associated with it. To associate my router I need the router password. To get the password I need to complete the Smart WiFi setup. To complete the setup I need to start it from the scratch. I watched some youtube videos and I never get the screen where I have to accept the terms of service. It goes directly to login screen and once I login it tells me to associate the router first. I have checked every inch of this router and no password is printed anywhere also the one piece of paperwork provided in the box shows default SSID and wireless password only.
What is my router password? Is it like the MAC of the router or the serial #? Tried some combinations but I just can't get figure it out.
Thanks for your help.

try using 192.168.1.1 as the address and look for the local link under the loging. That should then get you to a login that should use 'admin' as the password. only have the router and your pc connected to it but nothing connected to the wan port. Use either lan-lan or lan-wan setup as laid out in the user guide for your setup in the config you mentioned.

  • Can not get WET200 Bridge to wireless connect to EA6900 Router

    Hello,
I have a connectivity problem with my LinkSys WET200 Wireless-G business Ethernet Bridge
SN: MVP007800846. Any trouble shooting suggestions appreciated.
My system is Dell Vostro 1500 laptop, with Windows XP SP3
Basis problem: When I try to connect wireless to my NEW LynkSys EA6900 router; I receive the error “Limited or no connection” from the cable connection icon in the system tray.   I have tried several things ( restart computer, restart WET200) to make a valid connection with no success.
BACKGROUND and what I have completed:
I replaced my old LinkSys WRT router with a new LynkSys EA6900 router.  The EA6900 is up and running (after a few set up problems) and able to connect to both PC and MAC laptops and Android and Mac phones plus a couple of wireless printers.
To set up the WET200, I connected an Ethernet ( ENet) cable from the Wet200 PoE port to a unused port on the EA6900 router. I used my PC desktop Firefox browser to access the WET200 setup screens by entering the WET200 default IP address in the Firefox address bar.  I connected to the WET200, entered the default username and password and could see all the setup screens.
I selected the WIRELESS, Basic setup, did a sight survey and my EA6900 network name and security setting was present.  I entered the network name in the Basic Wireless setup and changed the WET200 security setting to match the network security setting.
I removed the ENet cable connecting the WET200 to the EA6900 router. Power recycled the WET200.  I then connected an ENet cable from Port 3 on the WET200 to the Enet cable connector on my PC laptop.
I then received the error “Limited or no connection” from the cable connection icon in the system tray.
    Thanks, krazykat1

    Hello krazykat
Need to ask a few questions, so I understand the network and the area this is in. How far apart are the router and WET? Did this work with your previous router, what kind was it? Normally we (Small Business) can not guarantee compatibly  with non small business equipment.
I have seen WDS work  between a WET 200 and other WET200's, also with some of the other older Small Business routers, like WRV200, and 210.
The main problem is most likely that the EA6900 is too new. I say that because the EA6900 is an AC router, the WET200 only does "G". One of the major components required for WDS to work is that Radio Chipsets match and well as channel, radio signal G to G, G/N to G/N, N to N.
I am afraid that there is too much age difference between your products.

  • I am trying to connect my new iMac to my Buffalo router.  I forgot my router password, so I reset it and it is working.  I can't figure out how to reset my router password and lock it on my iMac.

I am connecting my new iMac to my Buffalo router.  I forgot my router password so I pushed the reset button and my computer was able to connect.  The problem is, I can't figure out how to set my new password and lock the router.  I went to the Buffalo website and downloaded the CD, as I can't find that either.  I can't open any of it because it says it is Windows and can't open it.  I am new to Apple!

    Ah, new to routers too.
Perhaps it's best to have a local computer support person come set you up?
To explain everything would require writing a book here.
But this is what you want basically.
Router, new Wireless N, firmware updated.
1: Two accounts, one admin, one guest Internet access. Random +30 plus character lenght passwords each preferred.
(guest password to max password length of any iDevices)
2: Encryption: WPA2 AES. No Ping. No remote access. No MAC filtering. Visible.
3: Guest access on devices and computers only.  Passwords written down and stored.
4: OpenDNS preferred but not mandatory.
If you get OpenDNS, you can log into their website for free and set parental controls on things like inappropriate sites for children. So whatever device is used on your network can't access a large portion of those sites (nothing is perfect) by most users who are not technical oriented.
What your doing now is running the bare bones unsecure router which can be used harmfully against you.
Even a Apple Airport router has to be very well secured. The defautl cd and out of the box setup is not a secure solution.

  • Linksys EA6900 router issue

    Hi all,
I have a Linksys EA6900 router with firmware version 1.1.42(build 158863), and it has below issues:
    1) Connot access the router
    2) My devices can search the WIFI signal, but connot join it successfully.
    3) The internal network is working properly, but the internal user cannot access internet.
    4) DHCP is not working.
The issue can be fixed after I restart the router, but the problem comes again if it runs after a few weeks. Anyone has any ideas to resolve this issue? Thx!

Upgrade the firmware. The latest version is 161129 and sbould fix your issues. I suggest you follow this procedure:
download the file.from the linksys site to a pc that can be connected to the router by ethernet not wifi
do a factory reset by holding the reset button until the router reboots
Once the router is done booting login to the router locally and do the upgrade using the 192.168.1.1 and a browser.
make sure the auto update is NOT checked then do another factory reset.
once the router is again stable config it from scratch not from a saved file as there were some changes that you don't want to reintroduce to the new revsion.
You should be good after this. Let us know how it goes

  • EA6500 router password stop working when on Internet

My issue is pretty simple but really hard to understand on a logic standpoint.
I have a new EA6500 (v1), I hooked it up to the network and set it up using the default router password which is "admin". I set up the PPPOE connection for my internet and then, as soon as it is connected to the internet, I'm not able to connect to 192.168.1.1 anymore because it says my router password is invalid. If I just unplug the WAN cable and refresh it, the router password now works.
I tried changing it and it keeps working only if the router is not connected to internet. When it is connected to internet, I click the "local access mode" but get the same "invalid router password" error. If I connect using my Smart Wi-Fi account, I get a "error_gets_network" error that disappears after ~1sec and then it goes back to connection page, or sometimes it will just ask for the router password which won't work anyway.
I have the latest firmware but I still manually reinstalled it without any success. I tried a few hard resets too but the problem is still here and it is really annoying since I can't go to the router settings without unplugging the WAN cable from the router. And I can't link my smart Wifi account either obviously since the router password isn't recognized anymore if I'm on internet.
    Any ideas??
I tried with latest version of Google Chrome (cleared cache and everything, and since it's working when the router is not plugged to internet, I don't think it's a browser problem). The interface doesn't work at all with latest IE version (even in compatibility mode, the interface keeps telling me to download the latest version of IE, that's really ironic).
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Try Opera or FF? If IE 8, 9, 10 or 11, set compatibility mode and test again.
Disable any security browser Add-ons like No Script and Ad-Block or configure them to allow All Pages when connected to the router.
    Clear all browser caches.
Be sure to log into the Admin account on the router.
Try turning off these features in Chrome:
Top right corner, little bars for options > Settings > Settings (on left) > Show advanced settings.
    Uncheck these:
Use a web service to help resolve navigation errors
Use a prediction service to help complete searches and URLs typed in the address bar
Predict network actions to improve page load performance
    Enable phishing and malware protection

  • I changed my router password, now I need to login each time....

I have a MacBook Pro and recently changed my router password (from ASCII to HEX). Now my MBP recognizes the wireless signal (full strength) but I cannot pull up web pages without re-detecting my network and typing in the new password. A minor annoyance, but it would still be great to have it back to where it would remember the password.
    Thanks,
    John

Changing the keychain worked the first time that I did it, but has not worked since. I still have to find my network and re-login. I also checked my keychain to make sure it was remembering the correct password.

  • Even with MAC addresses entered into Airport Express, my devices keep asking for router password.  Basically, MAC filtering on my AirPort Express is not working

I just got a new laptop form work and wanted to add it to my home network.  Even though I put in the MAC address, it continue to ask me to put in the router password.  Not only that, it started to do that with my other devices within my home network.

With Airport Express setup being relatively quick and easy, I would put the work laptop aside while you reestablish your home network and ensure that your non-work devices operate without having to re-enter Router Passwords. Once that is done, I would turn the work laptop on and see if it discovers the home network.  Once you have entered the network password once, look for an option to remember the network.  It may be defaulting to your work network on each re-connect.

  • Changing Router Password

Hi, I have been reading countless tutorials online on how to reset my router password.  First off I have a WRT54G v.6 router.  I have confirmed my IP as the usual default.  When I type in http:// (Ip) I do not get the username password login as everyone else says they do.  I get a Management mode/Firmware upgrade screen with a file browser and apply/reset underneath.  I really want to apply a password to my router but I am just not getting it.  Any help would be appreciated.

Power down the router for 40-50 seconds .... then again open the setup page ...
you will get screen for Username & password ...

  • Linksys Cisco EA6400 - Passphrase/router password

I'm trying to find the password for this screen, seen after typing my remote ip address "192.168.1.1", in order to access my router settings.
As you probably already know, I don't know what it is. I've tried the default passwords I could find on some portforward sites, which are "admin" and "tivonpw", along with "default", "password", "[blank]", and every number or letter on the back and front of my physical router. I've also tried many passwords me or my dad might have set it as, but nothing. On multiple occasions, I've tried hard reseting my router and re-typing all of these passwords, first holding down the reset button for 10 seconds, then 30, a minute, and finally two minutes. I also tried calling a support site, but they said my warranty ran out and that I'd need to pay for their advice, which I chose not to.
Things like these have happened enough to where I've stopped becoming frustrated with them, but the help would still be much appreciated.
    Thanks.
P.S. A curious thing I noted; this router doesn't seem to have a username?

    @Baximus
There’s no way to retrieve the router password once you change it from the default password admin.
If you forgot your router password, you can perform a hardware reset to restore your router to factory default settings. Just press and hold the Reset button on the back panel of the Linksys Smart Wi-Fi Router for about 10 seconds then release.
Once done, you may run the Linksys Smart Wi-Fi setup wizard or manually set it up. It should prompt you to update your router and wireless password. Make sure to type the password correctly since it’s case sensitive.

  • 3G keeps asking for router password

I have a 16mb 3G iPhone which I use with a Verizon wireless router at my home. It frequently asks me for the router password even though I’ve entered it many times. If I don‘t enter it again, the phone switches to 3G service. Later on, without me doing anything, the phone will start using the router again. Any thoughts on how to keep the phone from forgetting the router/password?
    TIA

I’m still having this problem. Does anyone have any insight into why this is happening?

  • How do you set the router password on wrt54gs?

    I have a wrt54gs wireless router.
I pressed RESET for 30 seconds.
I did not do any power cycle.
    I typed 192.168.1.1
I left username empty and entered ADMIN as password.
    I enabled MAC addres clone.
I noticed I got Internet connection.
Then I tried to prevent my kind neighbors from
    accidentally using my router.
    So I changed router password.
    I clicked on SAVE SETTINGS.
At this point I was asked to enter username and password
    to AUTHENTICATE CHANGE.
    What is username?
    What is password?
This did not work with "username empty and ADMIN as password".

"Of course, setting a router password won't keep your neighbors from using your internet."
So what is the correct way of keeping your neighbors from using my router?
    Another thing I notice.
Because of a router password I put in (even though I got error messages
from doing that), then I closed out the whole thing.
    Subsequently I typed 192.168.1.1,
my router did not acccept 'admin' as password
    and
it only accepted the router password I put in.

  • Associate router - password EA6300

    Hi All,
I had to factory reset my EA63000 router and made the setup via my mobile device. The network is working, however I can't enter in the smart wifi page in a browser on my PC. There is a page which says 'Associate Router' which asks for the router password (not for the network password). Where can I find it? What is the default?
    Thanks.
    K.

If you didn't setup a Smart Wifi account look for the "local access click here" link and use the same password you did in the app.

  • I need my router password - I do not remember what it is

I need my router password- do not remember what it is. How do I retrieve it

Easiest way is probably to do a hard reset (how ya do that differs with modem brand) so it reverts to the default password (and login) and then you can reset it to the password to what you WANT it to be. The defaults should be on a label on or under the modem, unless it's been removed, and I suppose, alternatly, you can contact the manufacturer support if you can't find it that way.

How can I change my new wireless router password without connecting a usb cable ?
    Thanks

We have no idea since you don't mention what printer you have.   Also if you want to change your router password you con't use a USB cable.  Must use Ethenet cable or wireless connection.

You don't necessarily have to unplug the client devices from the router but it is recommended to unplug the router from power for a few seconds after the reset to restart the router.
