Regarding GUI_DOWNLOAD STRING PRB

hey guys,
We are trying to download internal table values to Excel sheet. But string length
holding above 8200 is not downloading to excel completely,getting truncated/showing dump.
below is the structure.
begin of itab.
fld1(10).
fld2(20).
fld3 type string.
end of itab.
if above having field Fld3 is greater than( >) 8200 in length, is passed to GUI_DOWNLAOD, its giving short dump. while debugging we found bufferlength space is fixed to 8200. how to solve this problem.
Please suggest us.
regards
Ambichan

hi Sooness,
Thanks for your reply
It looks like FM GUI_Download only accepts only 8200 char length for a field.
please confirm.

• Regarding GUI_DOWNLOAD

Hi Firends,
I am using GUI_DOWNLOAD function module to downlaod the internal table data.
It is working fine, if i am not specifying anything in the fieldnames of the function module table parametrs.
Here is my situation:
I declared two internal tables. one is itab1 (for data) and another one is itab2 (for displaying fieldnames).
1.
Itab1 consists of 75 columns.
and rows approximately 10.
column names like... matnr, maktx,etc
2.
itab2 consists of 75 columns and one row.
FYI: column names are col1, col2, col3,... etc.
But row (record) consists same as the itab1 column names.
col1 = matnr, col2 = maktx, etc.
when I passed itab1 and itab2 to the GUI_DOWNLOAD function module.
CALL FUNCTION 'GUI_DOWNLOAD'

TABLES
DATA_TAB                        = itab1
FIELDNAMES                    = itab2.
But I am not getting all the field names in the download file. only first column is displaying.
Could you pls correct me if i am doing wrong
whether i have to populate column names in itab2 in one row or
75 rows ( i mean each row one field name)?
this is very urgent..
if any body knows about populating field names in the download file, pls send me the code.
Thanks in advance.

• This is regarding format string in MDX.

Hi All,
I have used the below query:
select ([Measure Item].[Measure Item].&[Interest Rate],
[Time].[Time].&[201401]) on rows,
[Measures].[Value] on columns from [Adventure Works]
I am getting the result as:
234,789.00 EXE
Now the problem is: In result, I dont want that text 'EXE'. I just want that numeric value. How to get rid of that text from the result.
Can anyone please provide some suggestion please?
Thank you.

Hi Naveen_kumar,
According to your description, you only want to show the numeric value which is stored as string in the measure. Right?
In this scenario, does it always has three letters at the end of the string? If so you can use left() function to cut out the numeric part.
with
member GetNum as CDbl(Left([Measures].[Discount Percentage],Len([Measures].[Discount Percentage])-3))
select  {[Measures].[Discount Percentage],GetNum} on columns
from [Adventure Works]
If you have any question, please feel free to ask.

• Empty Strings are converted to NULLs

We are developing a Java application intended to work with multiple databases. We want to store empty strings but oracle converts this to NULL values. Is there a way to tell the Oracle Database not to convert the empty string to NULL and to store it as an empty string?
Thanks
Joaquim Franco <[email protected]>
GEDI, SA

Our project started with a MySQL database and the code is full of built queries like "Select Field from table where field = var" where var can be an empty string. It would be easier for us to turn a switch in the database then to look for every query in the application and add code to test is var is empty a change the query to "Select Field from table where field is NULL".
Best Regards
Joaquim Franco
> It is a quirk of Oracle that it regards empty strings
> and NULLs as being the same thing. This behaviour
> has been built into the database forever. Oracle
> keep threatening to change but I suspect they are
> scared of the impact, not least on their own code.
> As Oracle increasingly embrace Java they may decide
> to revisit this - I don't know whether the behaviour
> is changed in 10G.
>
> What sort of problems does it cause you?
>

• Help with Oracle Connection- "Input string was not in a correct format"

Hello, can some one, anyone please help me. I have a simple VS 2005 C# application that connects to oracle. I've set it up to take the username, password and tnsname as arguments. I am using Client 9i, version 9.2.0.401 of Oracle.DataAccess.dll, and .NET Framework 2.0.
It works fine when I run it from VS 2005, I have also set up a test machine w/o VS 2005 and ran my install package and it runs fine. I sent it to one of my co-workers and when he tries it the OracleConnection obect fails with the error.
"Input string was not in a correct format"
strange in that it is not an ORA error, just the identifed text!?
Here is the code:
## begin code
OracleConnection dbc = new OracleConnection();
string sConnectString = "User Id=" + username.ToString() + ";Password=" + password.ToString() + ";Data Source=" + tnsname.ToString();
dbc.ConnectionString = sConnectString.ToString();
MessageBox.Show("Attempting to Connect to Oracle");
dbc.Open();
MessageBox.Show("Connected to Oracle: " + dbc.ServerVersion);
## end code
Pretty basic, what could be going on?
Since this only happens with an installation, I put in the message boxes to verify exactly where it chokes. I get the first message box, then an error with the identified text. I've seen a number of posts regarding input string format problems, but not a one dealing with OracleConnection.Open(). I added all the ToString() calls just to make sure everything was a string but it did not change the end result.
Anyone? Thanks In advance!
Eric S.

Hello,
well, i got a message "...string not wellformed format...", too.
If you have defined the parameters as string, you don't need the additonal "ToString()". Please ckeck your tnsnames -string. Try to debug this. I believe you have copy the format from the tnsnames.ora and there you have much brackets.
For example, two code snippets:
As datasource i use <Server>:<Port>/<Instance>
try
string FDsn ="User Id="+FDbUser+";Password="+FDbPwd;
FDsn +=";Data Source=wth5:1521/Ora9.wth5";
FConn = new OracleConnection(FDsn);
FConn.Open();
if (FConn.State == ConnectionState.Open )
FConn.Close();
catch (Exception ex)
FStateMsg = "Connection to database failed. Check Configuration in parameter: ConnectionString. " + ex.Message;
Above i connect to a Ora 9.2.0.1
by using
FDsn +=";Data Source=wth5:1522/XE";
i connect to an OraExpress database on the same machine.
My Oracle.dataAccess.dll ist the newest, 10.2.... and it runs under Framework 1.1.x and Framework 2.x
I'll hope it will help you. Best regards!

• Object creation of string

Hello

Is the string pool is part of a heap? Huh? I suppose yes, you could regard the String pool as part of the heap... but (I guess) that interned String objects would be placed directly into the permanent generation, which is not garbage collected... and therefore I don't really think of the permanent generation as part of the heap (except when tuning heap allocations)... but I think I'm talking over your noob head here, yes... and so to the noob-stuff.
If you get bored you might like to scan (for now) http://java.sun.com/javase/technologies/hotspot/gc/gc_tuning_6.html#generations ... and come back to it in a couple of years time (when every second word isn't new and baffling to you;-)
jvm what will do when he encounter the following code,
String s1 = new String ("hello");The VM will:
1. Create a new String object, and then
2. copy the characters 'h','e','l','l','o' from the interned String "hello" to the new String,
3. and then assign a reference to the new String to variable s1.
Note that the result is subtley different from String s1 = "hello", which just does step 3... it assigns a reference to the existing interned String object "hello" to the variable s1... it does not create and "populate" a new String object.
Try this just for fun... what is the output of the following program? Why?
package forums;
public class StringEquals
public static void main(String[] args) {
try {
String a = "Hello";
String b = "Hello";

String c = new String("Hello");
System.out.println("a==c is "+(a==c));
} catch (Exception e) {
e.printStackTrace();
}Now, what's the correct way to evaluate equality of String objects in Java?

• PL/SQL function to read a string of characters into an array

I was wondering if there is an easier way than using the substr function multiple times. Here is the example:
Suppose you have a varchar2 variable that contains the word 'Apple'. The function should take it and produce an array. We would invoke it like this:
<what data structure?> a := stringunpackerfunction(x);
// x is the varchar2 containing 'Apple'.
The resulting a would be such that a[0] is 'A', a[1] is 'p', a[2] is 'p', a[3] is 'l' and a[4] is 'e'.
If there is no direct function to do this in a single invocation, is there a function to simply read a string of characters and return 'the next character'?
Thanks,
Regards,
Srini

There is a procedure out there called PS_PARSE which takes a string and converts to an array provided with an identified separator. Works for us pretty well.
I just grabbed this off of google. I am presuming this should work fine. It has been sometime since we implemented ours that I forget if there were any additional modifications that we made. I think there was one regarding the size of the string that could be handled. I forget precisely. Anyways... take a peek at it. Its makes things easy in that your logic is pretty streamlined.

public String calculate(String var1, Container container) throws StreamTransformationException
Boolean b=var1.contains(".");

return str;
// if above if statement is false code gets to here
// where is the return statement?
}The compiler doesn't give a shit about evaluating the if statement to see that it can only be true. All the compiler looks at is that when the if statement is false there is no return statement.

SELECT id, regexp_substr(str, '[^ ]+', 1, level) TOKEN from test CONNECT by level <= length(regexp_replace (str, '[^ ]+')) + 1;
but this is very slow when called from java. Is there any other alternative?
