Register driver multiple times

Just curious if registering an oracle driver multiple times can be a bad thing? Can it unnecessarily use up application resources (e.g. memory)?
thanks

Way, way back (on Java 1.3, I think) I found that it did. The DriverManager would hold multiple references to the same driver and, while trying to find a driver that would support a given connect URL, it would pass the same URL to the same driver multiple times. The more times I called registerDriver the more times it would do this. From then on I have always Class.forName to load the driver. The class loader will only load the class one time.
I haven't done any more testing on this so this behavior could be changed by now, however.

  • Swapping out Drives - Multiple Time, Bad?

I am performing a lot of benchmarking tests using multiple hard drives. Is it bad to continually remove the drives from in and out of the main-board?

So long as the system isn't running while you're doing it, it really shouldn't be a problem. Granted every time you pull a drive out and put it back in, there's always a small risk of a static charge building up, or things not sliding in exactly lined up, and causing damage that way. Plus it puts stress on the solder joints for the SATA ports on the board... But unless you're pulling drives in and out constantly for a couple of months, I wouldn't worry about it that much. So long as the system is under warranty, and you're not jamming the drives in, it's a perfectly reasonable warranty claim if something does go wrong.

  • Mount drive multiple times

    Hey,
Very sorry if this has been asked; i've found threads that have partially solved my problem, but not completely.
I was effected by mounting issues following my last sync & upgrade a couple of days ago. I found some fixes that suggested editing PolicyKit.conf, and this works fine initally. The problem is that the first time I insert my SD card into my SD card reader on my laptop it will mount the card fine, but if I then take it out and put it back in later it won't be detected. I do a lot of PDA development so I am always swapping cards in and out so this is a major issue for me.
Does anybody have a fix which will allow me to have similar functionality taht I had before the system upgrade where I could add and remove cards more than once?
    Cheers,
    Martin.

I've seen some fix about lazy unmount solutions .... do a quick search here on the forums.
It should work fine as long as you unmount it properly ... maybe someone using the internal card reader can help you more ... I only have a couple of memory sticks to work with and with ricoh card readers no chance of getting them to work so I'm using an USB card reader (cheap one) and so far except for the policykit stuff I've had no problems.

Yes, the Old Master file has a folder for each year where I find all photos from that specific year. I am attaching a screen shot of the file.
In the meantime i have managed to download all photos (it did not download any video files though in mpg, avi, 3gp, m4v,mp4 and mov format) to a new iphoto library. Unfortunately the photos are quite mixed and often doubled up. I ma considering to purchase iphoto library which checks all duplicates in iphoto. this will save me a lot of time. What do you think?

  • I have registered my iPhone multiple times, but registration keeps popping up

Every time I plug my iPhone 4S into iTunes (Windows 7 64bit) it asks me to register my iPhone. I go through the registration, submit it and it is successful. But the next time I plug it in, the registration screen returns and I go through the whole process again. I have probably done this five times now. Anyone else out there experience this?

I am experiencing the same issue with my iPhone 4. I am also on Win7 64x. I have wireless sync setup so everytime I close iTunes it will open back up after a few minutes asking me to register again. I have tried registering multiple times, but it keeps aksing me to do it over and over again.

  • I recently purchase macbook air with OS 10.10.2. I want to use my Seagate external backup plus hard drive for time machine back up. How to partition my 1TB Seagate back up plus hard drive for use with mac and windows pc?

    Hi All,
I recently purchased 13" Macbook Air with OS 10.10.2. I want to use my 1TB Seagate backup plus external hard drive as time machine and my windows 7 pc. Please suggest a method. Thanks in advance for your reply.

I strongly recommend having an external drive dedicated solely for TimeMachine. You could partition the drive but if something goes wrong you risk losing the data on both partitions. Should you decide to go ahead with splitting the drive for two different uses you’ll need to partition the drive either using the Mac’s built in Disk Utility program or Windows utility. I believe the built in Windows disk utility program will destroy the current partition and erase the data that’s on it - I use a third party Windows disk utility program for partitioning and it allows for non-destructive partitioning but warns to back up data first just in case. Apple’s Disk Utility can do non-destructive partitions but I don’t recall every trying to do a non-destructive partition on a disk originally formatted for Windows using it. Again - back up that data just in case.
Finally, your TimeMachine drive should be at least 1.5 times (I prefer 2 times) the size of the data you expect to be backing up a year or two from now.  In other words, if you currently are using 50GB of your computer’s drive but expect to begin purchasing Mac software to replace software on your Windows computer and if you expect to be putting photos, music, and other data on it you might expect that two years from now you’ll have 100GB of stuff on the drive. So a 200GB partition is the smallest size you’d want.  TM’s backup scheme keeps multiple copies of data as it changes so the extra room is important for this scheme.

I just backed up my mac to an external hard drive using Time Machine. What would happen if I turn Time Machine off and then plug the external hard drive back into my computer?
What I am ultimately wanting to do is make more room on my computer by backing up all of my files onto the external hard drive and then deleting them off of my computer. However, neededing to be able to retrieve them from the external hard drive later down the road.
From what I have read and am trying to understand, is that I probably shouldn't have used time machine. I need to use the external hard drive like a basic flash drive where I can put things on and get things off without having it automatically update through time machine everytime I connect it to my computer.
Not tech savvy at all and barely understand basics. I need very simple and easy to understand explanations.

BIG BIG MISTAKE ..... youre making a linchpin deathtrap for your data trying to shove everything on a single fragile HD.
Dont suffer the tragedy other people make, buy another or 2 more HD, theyre cheap as dust.
The number of people who have experienced terror by having a single external HD backup is enormous.  One failure that WILL HAPPEN, and kaput,......all gone!
Dont do it, its all about redundancy, redundancy, redundancy.
    follow here:
Methodology to protect your data. Backups vs. Archives. Long-term data protection
Deleting them off your computer is fine....having only ONE copy is extremely BAD.
The Tragedy that will be, the tragedy that never should be
Always presume correctly that your data is priceless and takes a very long time to create and often is irreplaceable. Always presume accurately that hard drives are extremely cheap, and you have no excuse not to have multiple redundant copies of your data copied on hard drives and squirreled away several places, lockboxes, safes, fireboxes, offsite and otherwise.
Hard drives aren't prone to failure…hard drives are guaranteed to fail (the very same is true of SSD). Hard drives dont die when aged, hard drives die at any age, and peak in death when young and slowly increase in risk as they age.
Never practice at any time for any reason the false premise and unreal sense of security in thinking your data is safe on any single external hard drive. This is never the case and has proven to be the single most common horrible tragedy of data loss that exists.
Many 100s of millions of hours of lost work and data are lost each year due to this single common false security. This is an unnatural disaster that can avoid by making all data redundant and then redundant again. If you let a $60 additional redundant hard drive and 3 hours of copying stand between you and years of work, then you've made a fundamental mistake countless 1000s of people each year have come to regret.

  • Photoshop is opening multiple times...WHY??? (please help).

When I double click on an image (from Bridge for example) to open in Photoshop it will open up CS6 and then sometimes when I open another image, instead of opening up in the same open Photoshop program, it will open up an additional Photoshop program.  Both CS6, Version 13.0.6 x64.  Super frustrating when sitting with a client and trying to add an image to a document and it opens up in a different program...   Is there a way to see where Photoshop is opening from?  Why would CS6 be opening multiple times???
I don't think I noticed this happening before I upgraded to Mavericks (yes, this has been happening for a while).  I also have a back-up program called SuperDuper that mirrors my system on a separate hard drive.  Could Photoshop be opening from there, too?
    Thanks for any possible help!

  • Hard lock ups multiple times a day - How can I troubleshoot?

My machine locks up hard multiple times a day. If I happen to be sitting in front of it, I observe that the image on the monitors stops changing. Mouse and keyboard will not work at all (including Magic key SysRq sequences). I cannot ping the box from another machine. The system has not made it to 24 hours of uptime for some weeks.
I am beginning to suspect that this may be an issue with the NVIDIA driver, but that's only a guess since it's the only thing I've seen before that can lock up a machine hard like this. I have checked journalctl and the Xorg logs, but don't see anything telling.
What should be my next steps toward solving this issue?

When it locks up, do any indicators on the keyboard blink?  That would be an indication of a kernel panic.
If there are no blinking lights, does it unlock eventually?
Has the machine ever been stable?
Have you tried installing a RAM test in your boot loader and running it?
Next, I would start blacklisting any kernel module you don't absolutely need to see if you can isolate it that way.
    Also, this looks ominous:
Apr 29 07:49:48 lore kernel: This system BIOS has enabled interrupt remapping
on a chipset that contains an erratum making that
feature unstable. To maintain system stability
interrupt remapping is being disabled. Please
contact your BIOS vendor for an update
I redouble my suggestion you pare down loaded modules to try and isolate this.
Also, I see that it looks at the microcode
    Apr 29 07:49:48 lore kernel: microcode: CPU0 sig=0x106a5, pf=0x1, revision=0x11
    Apr 29 07:49:48 lore kernel: microcode: CPU1 sig=0x106a5, pf=0x1, revision=0x11

    Apr 29 07:49:48 lore kernel: microcode: CPU7 sig=0x106a5, pf=0x1, revision=0x11
But I don't see it being updated.  That might be normal for your processor, but double check that and ensure you have the microcode update stuff installed in the boot loader correctly.

  • Use portable hard drive for Time Machine & other things

I recently purchased a 1 TB portable hard drive. I'd like to use it for my Time Machine backups, as well as moving my iTunes library there. Is this an easy change? I'm not super familiar with hard drive set ups. Will I have to create any partitions on the drive?
    Thanks!

You're welcome. Make sure your drive is formated as Mac OS Extended (journaled), GUID partition table.
Here's a nice link to use for Time Machine information.
You can partition the drive if you want to organize your various backups. For example you might create a Time Machine partition and Other Files partition. When Time Machine is working, it creates a folder (Backups.backupdb) and places the Time Machine backups in that folder. The rest of the partition is open to add whatever you want. I have multiple partitions on my USB external drive with Time Machine backups separated from other backups.

  • Can I have the same printer installed multiple times under different names?

On WIndows I have the same printer installed multiple times
    All using the same driver
I have a Canon printer that has a rear tray and a bottom tray
So, I will have one printer that prints to the rear and the other to the bottom
Other printers (the same one) will be set so that they print in high quality and in duplex for example
    I'll name the printers 1.Canon 2.Canon 3.Canon etc
So, when I go to print, I just hit a number on the keyboard and the printer I want is selected
Can I do the same on my laptop?
    Thanks
    Omar

Back Up - that's in case things go wrong.
    In the case you cite:
    You have
    Mother
    Mother Maiden Name
    as Faces, right?
In the Corkboard view click on Mother Maiden Name and delete the 'Maiden Name'.
It will disappear and all the photos will be in the Mother face.
Note that 'Mother' and 'Mother ' (that is, with a trailing space) are not the same.
You can  also just edit the name 'Mother Maiden Name' to 'Mother'
As for photos staying in manual sort, I can only say that mine do. But as I've no idea what troubleshooting steps you've used.

  • I still cannot view flash players in firefox after uninstalling and reinstalling firefox and flash multiple times. how do i fix this issue perminantly?

I can go into chrome without any issues and watch any video without any problem. the second i get into firefox nothing works. i have had this issue on and off for years. i really do not see why you cannot fix this if everybody else can. i have uninstalled and reinstalled firefox and flash player multiple times. nothing seems to work. I am truly getting really tired of this same problem year after year, i stay with firefox because you are privacy conscience and are being more so consistently. i do not know what other details to tell you other than this just keeps happening and it is making it very tough to do anything on firefox when i cannot use a simple thing such as flash player. as i said, if the other browsers can fix this i see no reason why firefox cannot year after year. i hope there is a simple fix for this problem because it has basically halted a lot of my work on the net as i will no longer use google or microsoft. thank you

  • FM RV_INVOICE_DOCUMENT_READ not getting KONV details when ran multiple times

Hi, I'm calling the Function Module 'RV_INVOICE_DOCUMENT_READ' with the parameter KONV_READ as 'X' thru one of the Output type via Smartform driver program from VF02. I found that this FM was not returning KONV(XKOMV) details. When I debugged, I came to know that when this FM is run multiple times, only for the initial time it fetches KONV details. This FM was triggered by standard program first and later was called in my Smartform Driver program. Inside this FM, it was checking against an internal table 'TABGL' and was fetching KONV details if it is initial. For the first time this internal table(TABGL) will be initial and after fetching KONV details, it is filled with Condition record(KONV-KNUMV). So for the second time call of this FM, KONV details are not fetched. To confirm this I ran this FM from SE37. For the first time it fetched KONV details. In the same session I executed again. This time it didn't populate KONV details, whereas VBRK, VBRP, VBPA details were fetched even in the second run. Could you please let me know if we can use this FM for getting KONV details irrespective of number of times it has been called before. Thanks, Adithya M.

Try to call RV_INVOICE_REFRESH before calling RV_INVOICE_DOCUMENT_READ again.

  • Using 3TB drive for Time Machine?

1.) Can a 3TB internal hard drive be used in a Macpro to back up multiple internal 500GB drives with Time Machine??

  • Restoring an external hard drive with time machine

I'm having a problem restoring an external hard drive using time machine. I'm on a macbook Air Running 10.7.5.
The external hard drive where I store all my photos crashed a few days ago. Not a total disaster, because it's backed up, but I can't figure out how to restore the drive onto a new hard drive. When I go into time machine without the corrupted drive attached, it does not show up in the time machine browser as an option for restore. (The files are definitely there, though, because I can see them when I look at the time machine files in Finder. I'm afraid if I just transfer the files by dragging, though, I'll mess something up.) I tried using the migration assistant, but I'm having the same problem there.
Anyone know how to do this? I'm a little frantic to get my photos back.
    Thanks!

I am having a similar problem.  I use a  Lacie external hard drive connected to an Airport Time Capsule via USB to store my itunes library.  Yesterday I disconnected the external drive from the ATC and connected it to my macbook pro via fire wire to transfer 40 gigabytes of media files from my laptop to the external drive directly rather than over wifi.  When I reattached the external drive to the ATC the Lacie drive didn't show up even after rebooting everything. I then disconnected from the ATC and reconnected to the laptop and now I get an error message saying the Lacie disk is unrecognizable and needs to be reformated.  The Lacie drive was being included in the time machine backups so the files should be available through time machine but I don't see anyway to access them because the Lacie disk icon doesn't appear in the time machine backups.  Is there another way to browse the files?
I have had issues with Lacie disks not showing up on the desktop before, particularly when transferring files from one computer to another.  The transfer usually goes fine but then when I reattach the drive to the first computer it isn't recognized anymore until I reboot and it sometimes requires a couple of reboots.  I initially tried to connect the external drive to both the ATC and the laptop but that didn't work, although now I'm wondering if that was because the connection to the laptop was firewire rather than USB like the ATC.  In any case I currently have over a terabyte of data on my lacie that I can't access which includes my entire itunes library and backup files from multiple computers which were "cleaned" but not restored.
Disk utility sees the drive but can't verify or repair and tells me to backup as many files as possible and then reformat.  Unfortunately I can't see ANY files to backup because the disk won't mount anywhere.  If anyone has a recommendation for utilities to recover the files I'd be most grateful to get them.
