Related to using dynamic statements

Hi,
Just when defining cursors, are there any other ways, by which we can use any dynamic statements? Such as depending on different conditions, we want to have different 'where' clauses.
Thks & Rgds,
HuaMin

For a straight in-line cursor which is what I think you are requiring, the closest thing I can think of would be something like....
PROCEDURE myproc(p_x IN NUMBER := NULL, p_y IN NUMBER := NULL, p_z IN NUMBER := NULL) IS
CURSOR cur_mycursor
  SELECT a,b,c,d
  FROM   mytable
  WHERE  x = NVL(p_x, x)
  AND    y = NVL(p_y, y)
  AND    z = NVL(p_z, z);Obviously this is a basic example showing how you can restrict the query on just the values you supply, but you could adapt for more complex things.

    OK, I wrote a test program myself which proves my theory. I can't believe I am resorting to a p***ing contest instead of going home for the weekend.
    First count SE16 records on DD02L by specifying 'A' for AS4LOCAL field and note down the count.
    Then, try this program:
    REPORT y_sk_test .
    PARAMETERS: p_itabfl TYPE c AS CHECKBOX DEFAULT 'X',
                p_as4lcl TYPE dd02l-tabclass DEFAULT 'A'.
    DATA: t_dd02l TYPE STANDARD TABLE OF dd02l INITIAL SIZE 0 WITH HEADER LINE,
          t_itab  TYPE STANDARD TABLE OF dd02l INITIAL SIZE 0 WITH HEADER LINE.
    IF p_itabfl = 'X'.
      t_itab-tabname = 'T000'.
      APPEND t_itab.
    ENDIF.
    SELECT *
    INTO   TABLE t_dd02l
    FROM   dd02l
    FOR ALL ENTRIES IN t_itab
    WHERE  tabname = t_itab-tabname
      AND  as4local = p_as4lcl.
    DESCRIBE TABLE t_dd02l LINES sy-tfill.
    WRITE: / 'Number of rows selected:', sy-tfill.
    If you uncheck the checkbox, the count matches the SE16 count and I didn't have to use the IF ELSE block.

  • Alternative to using dynamic variable / NOW () in Content FILTER

    Good morning all,
    Could someone suggest an alternative to using NOW () in the WHERE clause of LTS? Using ExpirationDate>NOW() works, but unfortunately, this request can't be cached (because reports using dynamic statements using NOW () and TODATE () don't get cached).
    I've identified a possible solution - creating a variable that would use first day of current month with this Initialization block:
    SELECT LAST_DAY (ADD_MONTHS (CAST(SUBSTR(SYSDATE,1,10) AS DATE), -1))+1 FROM TIMEDIM_TABLE WHERE CAST(SUBSTR(SYSDATE,1,10) AS DATE)=CALENDAR_DATEAs a result the variable is showing: TIMESTAMP '2009-05-01 00:00:00' in Default Initializer field. This seems to be working - I'm just not sure why not all he reports get cached.
    My question is - is this valid way for this and is there a better way to accomplish this?

    Hy Wildmight,
    Here an article :
    Why a Query is Not Added to the Cache ?
    http://gerardnico.com/wiki/dat/obiee/bi_server/cache/obiee_bi_server_why_no_cache
    If you use a repository variable, the cache work and the entry will be deleted next time you update it.
    Success

    By the way, I don't see why you are using dynamic SQL here. Static SQL will do just fine. And so you can literally copy Adrian's setup.

  • Issue Related to limit the result in prompt by using SQL statement.

    Hello Gurus,
    I am facing one issue rite now with our testing environment in some Dashboard Prompt. it seems like they are working fine in our Development environment.
    basically I am using SQL statement in prompt to limit the values for current + last 2 years in drop down.
    Here is the SQL that I am using SELECT Time."Fiscal Year" FROM "Financials - AP Overview" where Time."Fiscal Year" <= VALUEOF(NQ_SESSION.CURRENT_FSCL_YEAR) AND Time."Fiscal Year" >= (VALUEOF(NQ_SESSION.CURRENT_FSCL_YEAR)-2) ORDER BY TIme."Fiscal Year" desc
    Now it's working fine in our Dev but geeting failed in Test environment.
    it's giving below error.
    Odbc driver returned an error (SQLExecDirectW).
    State: HY000. Code: 10058. [NQODBC] [SQL_STATE: HY000] [nQSError: 10058] A general error has occurred.
    [nQSError: 43113] Message returned from OBIS.
    [nQSError: 43119] Query Failed:
    [nQSError: 22023] An arithmetic operation is being carried out on a non-numeric type. (HY000)
    SQL Issued: SELECT Time."Fiscal Year" FROM "Financials - AP Overview" where Time."Fiscal Year" <= VALUEOF(NQ_SESSION.CURRENT_FSCL_YEAR) AND Time."Fiscal Year" >= (VALUEOF(NQ_SESSION.CURRENT_FSCL_YEAR)-2) ORDER BY TIme."Fiscal Year" desc
    Please let me know your output.
    Thanking You..

    Couple of possibilities..
    1. environments may be at different patch sets, may be causing the issue.
    2. data in working environment is fine but in other environment.
    to further debug use the same logical sql in both environments and compare the results..
    hope this helps..

    YOU NEED JUSTIFICATION FOR USING DYNAMIC CODE. In any language.
    Again: WHAT is your justification? If you cannot provide that, then why are you using dynamic code??
    If we have to use dynamic sql, performance wise defining in declare block or begin will be better.No difference - as neither method changes the actual SQL cursor executed. Neither makes the resulting cursor read data blocks faster.
    PL/SQL also does not care where variable assignment happens. The difference is so tiny and so small, it is irrelevant to performance:
    SQL> declare
      2          t1      timestamp;
      3  begin
      4          --// test 1

  • When to use prepared statement in java?

    Hi all,
    If we have query like select * from {tablename} (Here tablename is the variable) then will the use of prepared staement improve the performance? My guess is use of statement in this case is a better option rather than prepared statement as the tablename may change for every other query.I think are not useful if tablename changes.They are useful only when the where clause has dynamic values.

    cantor wrote:
    Are you sure that your approach is possible? The next example causes exception for me.
    PreparedStatement ps = conn.prepareStatement("select * from ?");
    ps.setString(1, "TABLE_NAME");
    ps.executeQuery();
    I didn't say that he should solve it in that way. He should create one prepared statement like this "select a, b, c from tablename1" and another prepared statement when he wants to execute "select d, e, f from tablename2"
    >
    And as I understand, this code will not improve perfomance (and even will not work). As I said it can.
    Prepared statements make possible usage compiled queries inside DB. When DB gets prepared statement call, it need to parse it only once. And it can collect some statistic to improve execution plan. But when table name is not specified, this approach will not work.Yes it might. There are database drivers that can cache prepared statements and it's isn't likely that he executes that query on more than e.g. 20 tables?
    The database can also cache compiled statements in a cache.

  • How to Use Dynamic SQL

    Can anybody please send me a small program on How to Use Dynamic SQL.
    How to execute and run give details.
    Thanks
    null

    You can certainly use the INTO (and USING) clauses of EXECUTE IMMEDIATE to pass in and return data, i.e.
    EXECUTE IMMEDIATE sqlStmt
      USING variable1, variable2
       INTO output1, output2The more complex the statement, however, the more appropriate DBMS_SQL is. DBMS_SQL also has the potential to allow you to use bind variables rather than reparsing the statement many times.

  • Tracking Memory usage on iOS using the Stats class

    I've been checking memory usage on an app I'm developing for iOS using the Stats class https://github.com/mrdoob/Hi-ReS-Stats ( http://help.adobe.com/en_US/as3/mobile/WS4bebcd66a74275c3-315cd077124319488fd-7fff.html#WS 948100b6829bd5a61637f0a412623fd0543-8000).
    I added the Stats class to my project and redeployed and, yikes, memory usage reported in Stats creeps up (pretty slowly) even when there's nothing happening in the app (just showing a loaded bitmap).
    To try and track down the issue I created a project with a test class that extends Sprite with just this single call in the constructor :-
    addChild( new Stats() );
    I deployed it to the device to check that it didn't gobble any memory.
    But I was Suprised to watch the memory usage creep up and up (to approx 5) before some garbage collection kicked in and takes memory back down. I left it running and then it crept up again to over 7.5 this time before being kicked back down to just below 3.
    So 2 related questions that I'd appreciate any feedback/observations/thoughts on :-
    1 - Is this normal (i.e. memory creeping up when there's nothing other than Stats in the project) ?
    2 - What is the best way to monitor memory usage within an app ? Is Stats good enough - is Stats itself causing the memory usage ?
    All the best guys !

    Also see thread (http://forums.adobe.com/message/4280020#4280020)
    My conclusions are :-
    - If you run an app and leave it idle, memory usage gradually creeps up (presumably as memory is being used to perform calcs/refresh the display etc)
    - Periodically the garbage collection kicks in and memory is brought back down
    - This cycle could be in excess of 5 mins
    Run with your real app and memory will increase and be released much more rapidly/regularly.
    - It's probably worth performing initial checks by running on your desktop to iron out any initial problems

  • Assigning values to 2 fields using sql statement

    db11g , apex 4.0 and firefox 24 ,
    hi all ,
    i am trying to follow this tutorial to assign values to 2 items on a page using sql statement ,
    and i am using the same sql statement the tutorial uses
    select d.loc location, count(e.empno) num_employees from dept d, emp e where d.deptno = e.deptno(+) and d.deptno = :P3_DEPTNO group by d.loc -- btw , what does the "+" sign mean?
    after the e.deptno in the where condition .
    but i am facing this error
    1 error has occurred
    Wrong number of columns selected in the SQL query. See Help of attribute for details.
    and it does not work with two columns in the select statement under any conditions , i tried to remove the group function and the group clause ,
    it does not work unless i use only one column in the select statement ??
    thanks

    Pars
    And how exactly is this rewrite of the sql statement resolving the OP's issue.
    You are still using more than 1 column which will still result in the error message:
    Wrong number of columns selected in the SQL query.
    As mentioned in my earlier post APEX 4.0 (the version the OP is using) does not handle a sql statement with multiple columns for the dynamic action Set Value.
    Which means the fastest  and simplest solution is splitting up the dynamic action in multiple Set Value actions.
    Using this plugin or upgrade to a newer apex version would also be a possibility.

  • Is it possible to change LOV definition using dynamic action?

    Hi,
    I have a multi-select LOV page item, P27_MULTI_CLASS_CODE, defined as below.  On page load, this list only contains values based on what has been passed to P27_OLO_CODE or P27_OLO_CODE_SW.
    SELECT DISTINCT c.class_code d, c.class_code r
      FROM ORGANIZATION o,
           POSITION p,
           CLASS c
    WHERE o.org_wk = p.org_wk
       AND p.class_wk = c.class_wk
       AND o.org_active_flag = 'Y'
       AND p.pos_active_flag = 'Y'
       AND c.class_active_flag = 'Y'
       AND (o.olo_code = :P27_OLO_CODE
            OR o.olo_code = :P27_OLO_CODE_SW)
    ORDER BY c.class_code ASC
    Before submitting the page, I would like the LOV definition of P27_MULTI_CLASS_CODE to change to the following (similar query without reference to P27_OLO_CODE or P27_OLO_CODE_SW) based on whether the user selects checkbox item, P27_ALLOW_SW.   By doing this, P27_MULTI_CLASS_CODE would contain a full range of values rather than limited values.
    SELECT DISTINCT c.class_code d, c.class_code r
      FROM ORGANIZATION o,
           POSITION p,
           CLASS c
    WHERE o.org_wk = p.org_wk
       AND p.class_wk = c.class_wk
       AND o.org_active_flag = 'Y'
       AND p.pos_active_flag = 'Y'
       AND c.class_active_flag = 'Y'
    ORDER BY c.class_code ASC
    I wanted to avoid writing Javascript.  Is this possible using dynamic actions...or at least somehow refresh P27_MULTI_CLASS_CODE so that it ignores P27_OLO_CODE and P27_OLO_CODE_SW?
    I've tried creating a dynamic action to clear the value of  P27_OLO_CODE or P27_OLO_CODE_SW, in hope it would trigger P27_MULTI_CLASS_CODE to display all values, but it has not been successful.  Any ideas?
    APEX 4.2

    I was able to resolve by changing the SQL statement to P27_MULTI_CLASS_CODE.  Note:  I also included an additional condition.
    SELECT DISTINCT c.class_code d, c.class_code r
      FROM ORGANIZATION o,
           POSITION p,
           CLASS c
    WHERE o.org_wk = p.org_wk
       AND p.class_wk = c.class_wk
       AND o.org_active_flag = 'Y'
       AND p.pos_active_flag = 'Y'
       AND c.class_active_flag = 'Y'
       AND (:P27_ALLOW_SW = 'Y'
            OR (o.olo_code =  :P27_OLO_CODE
                OR o.olo_code = :P27_OLO_CODE_SW)
       AND (:P27_PAY_PLAN IS NULL
             OR p.pay_plan = :P27_PAY_PLAN)
    ORDER BY c.class_code ASC
    I also changed the Cascading LOV Parent Item(s) value to:  P27_OLO_CODE,P27_OLO_CODE_SW,P27_PAY_PLAN,P27_ALLOW_SW.  Optimize Refresh = No, since a change in any one of these values should trigger refresh of LOV.
    The Dynamic Action was also modified to NULL out P27_OLO_CODE,P27_OLO_CODE_SW when P27_ALLOW_SW was enabled.
    So far, so good!  Thanks for your suggestions Tom and Howard!

  • FETCHING VALUES IN MULTI RECORD BLOCK FROM ANOTHER TABLE USING SELECT STATEMENT.

    Hi,
    I have one multi record block in which i want to fetch values
    (more then one record) from another table using select statement
    IN KEY NEXT ITEM.I am getting following error.
    ORA-01422: exact fetch returns more than requested number of rows
    Thanks in advance.

    In your case I see no reason to use non-database block and to try to populate it from a trigger with a query, instead of using the default forms functionality where you can associate the block and the fields with table, create where clause using bind variables and simply use execute_query() build-in to populate the block. The power of the forms is to use their build-in functionality to interact with the database.
    Also, you can base your block on a query, not on a table and you dynamically change this query using set_block_property() build-in. You can use any dynamic queries (based on different data sources) and you simply need to control the column's data type, the number of the columns and their aliases. Something like creating inline views as a block data source.
    However, you can replace the explicit cursor with implicit one like
    go_block('non_db_block_name');
    first_record();
    FOR v_tab IN (SELECT *
    FROM tab
    WHERE col_name = :variable)
    LOOP
    :non_db_block_name.field1 := v_tab.col1;
    :non_db_block_name.field2 := v_tab.col2;
    next_record();
    END LOOP;

  • Using Case statement to insert,update,delete  the tables

    Hi All,
    I have to check the databse ,
    if it is developement then
    insert/update/delete values in tables;
    if it staging then
    insert/update/delete values in tables;
    if it is production then
    insert/update/delete values in tables;
    thers is function available to check the current database
    For doing the about i am trying to write CASE statement like this
    SELECT function,
    case
    when fun = 'developement' then insert into table1 values ('abcd','1234')
    when fun = 'staging' then insert into table1 values ('abcd','1234')
    when fun= 'production' then insert into table1 values ('abcd','1234')
    else null
    from dual
    its throughing me an error
    please help
    Thanks,

    Hi,
    You can use CASE staement any place where an expression is expected.
    For example, in:
    UPDATE  table_a
    SET     col1 = exp1
    ,       col2 = exp2
    WHERE   exp3 = exp4;all the expressions are labled lke expn.
    Note that table_a, col1 and col2 are not expressions: you must hard-code these names, or use dynamic SQL.
    So it's okay to say:
    UPDATE  table_a
    SET     col1 = CASE
                       WHEN  db = 'development'  THEN  0
                       WHEN  db = 'staging'      THEN  1
                   END
    ,       col2 = CASE
                       WHEN  db = 'development'  THEN  NULL
                       WHEN  db = 'staging'      THEN  col2
                   END
    WHERE   db != 'production';In this example:
    in the development database, col1 is set to 0 and col2 is set to NULL
    in the staging database, col1 is set to 1 and col2 is unchanged (that is, set to what it already was)
    in the production database, nothing is changed (the WHERE condition is always FALSE)
