Relocate database in a vmware folder

Hi,
I have allocated the mdf and ldf of one of my sql server 2012 databases in a different unit, in my windows server 2012.
The problem is that I'm getting the error 17204 (Access denied) and I think this is because the account/service mssql$wsus used to log on to the database is not in the security of the new unit and I cannot give permissions in the security because mssql$wsus
is a service.
Can anybody tell how to fix this problem?
Thanks in advance.
Regards.

>>>in a different unit,
Does that mean different disks? Can you connect as 'sa' ?

  • Creating database on virtualbox shared folder

    Hi all,
I have fedora 13 64bit, in a virtual box guest. (host is fedora as well).
I would like to have a VM that has the oracle install, and then have a shared folder where all the database files live.
That would allow me in a distributed environment to easily distribute datafiles for databases and keep the vm foot print small.
Oracle install went fine, (10.2.0.5) but my issue is I can not create a database on the shared folder.
Oracle complains that it is a NFS mount that wasn't mounted correctly. (ORA-27054: NFS file system... not mounted with correct options)
But it's a vboxsf mount. I mounted it with the gid/uid of the owner of the folder in the host in read/write. I can create/delete/touch files in this mount
from the guest's O/S. I just can't get oracle to do anything with it.
Researching the NFS side of it people using NFS mounts have to specify the rsize/wsize but those are not mount options with vboxsf
    fyi, mount command used: mount -t vboxsf <sharename> <mount point> -o uid=xxx,gid=xxx,rw
Has anyone else been successful at this? and if so how did you do it?
Guest Additions installed just fine btw, the oracle install is on a different shared folder and ran the oracle installation from there.

    thx for the reply.
1.) no only one vm would access the datafiles.
The methodology helps where I can deploy the version of oracle that runs the database is deployed as a vm.
The version of the database doesn't change often for the product. The database can change, often.
To level set a host of machines where developers are working, unit test are running and so on. I can push
a set of files that make up the database off to a bunch of different physical machines.
Or people can simply grab the set of files and copy them.
This allows an easy way to only push/pull the data files, without vm's even started. And to only to have to transmit
that what has changed, the data files.
2.) the uid/gid of the oracle user in the guest, and the user that owns the directory on the host are the same and are what I'm using in the mount command.
I do not believe this is a rights issue. The oracle user can create/delete/edit/touch files in the shared folder in question.
It's simply that oracle seems to think it's a nfs mount, which it is not.
So just wondering if anyone else has solved this. thx...

  • Can standby database configured on VMWare server or not?

    HI all,
Is it possible that our primary server is not on vmware server but standby server can be configured on VMWare server?
AFAIK, configuration of both the server should be same.
If our Primary server is not on Vmware server but standby database configured on Vmware server, Will it work or not.
    Pls suggest me.....
And another thing is that Is it necessary to have a dedicated connection b/w primary and standby server for RFS process.
    pls suggest me....

If our Primary server is not on Vmware server but standby database configured on Vmware server, Will it work or not.Logically speaking, it should not matter but YMMV.
And another thing is that Is it necessary to have a dedicated connection b/w primary and standby server for RFS process.what is RFS process? Could you elaborate?

  • Create Database on NAS Shared Folder

I installed Oracle 10g Server on Windows 2000 Advanced Server. I use a Fastora NAS-208 NAS system and create a shared folder on it and I want to create an oracle databas on this shared folder but I can't because of Oracle Server wants to change ACL (Access Control List) of database location and add Administrator & SYSTEM users to ACL after clear ACL. It could clear ACL of shared folder but couldn't add SYSTEM and Administrator users to ACL thus ACL of container folder of database will be empty and Oracle Server colud not create database files (data files,...) on it.
Please guide me to solve this problem.

  • GDS Performance in a Cluster - Database or Shared File Folder

Has anyone seen any significant performance differences between Windows ES4 clusters using the DB GDS and File Folder GDS?

I remember I learnt these suggestions from LC documentation.
For best performance, configure file system as GDS.
For easy backup, configure database as GDS.

  • Duplicate iTunes database files in Home Folder

Due to an ever-increasing number of songs in iTunes, I downloaded them to an external hard drive -relatively easily(with a lot of help) and successfully for the most part. But....
In order to trash my iTunes Music on the internal drive I had to re-organize the sub-files found in the iTunes file(path - Home>Music>iTunes>). All of the iTunes database files were in the iTunes Music file so I dragged them out and put them in the iTunes file. After I trashed all the music, by highlighting the songs and dragging them to the trash bin, the iTunes Music file(which should be empty) has ‘re-created’ the iTunes database files.
The iTunes seems to work fine. All newly added music is stored on the external hard drive and downloads to my iPod. However now my iTunes window crashes consistently and my external hard drive gets disconnected intermittently.
What should I do about the duplicate iTunes database files and is this duplication causing these new problems?

I would happily assign to you 100 points even now
LOL - just clicked 'Solved' on one of my replies when or if you are happy!
Is it possible that when you create a new library the database files also get duplicated
Well, almost. When you create a new Library, you are creating a new iTunes "window" into which you can import any of your music, irrespective of whether it also exists in another library. So, although the music may be the same, iTunes creates a NEW (not duplicate) set of iTunes Library database files for your new Library. The main one (iTunes Library) holds all your playlists, ratings, etc.
That explains why those new files you found inside your iTunes Music folder were all much smaller than the 4 files you moved out - they were new iTunes Library files. (that's what I meant in paragraph 2; the file sizes of the new set were all wrong - way too small; the set you moved out of the iTunes Music folder, were much more realistically bigger.
However, it may be that the CURRENT set of iTunes Library files is on the eHD with your iTunes Music folder, from what you say. Does the iTunes Library file on the eHD have a very recent timestamp on it? If so, that's the one iTunes seems to be using.
Following your directions in paragraph 3 I couldn't find the main iTunes Preferences .plist file
I'm now inclined to believe that your Preferences are not the problem, though I'm baffled as to how you couldn't find the file. The com.apple.iTunes.plist file MUST be there, I'm not sure how iTunes can run without it. And if it wasn't there, iTunes would create it anew when you run the program. You sure you looked in ~user/Library/Preferences ?
then download iTunes from the Apple site
The problems you describe are from a "wrong way of doing things" rather than a corrupt application, so I'd say no to this, right now.
Could I delete or trash parts or all of the iTunes folders and files somewhere along the path, such as after User/Music and on the external hard drive, without jeopardizing the music located on the external hard drive
{sharp intake of breath} - this is ONLY worth doing once we know which is the Library that iTunes is currently using. Certainly, we haven't got to the bottom of why iTunes re-creates those iTunes Library files in your iTunes Music folder.
One way to track down the current Library file is to add one track only to your iTunes, then quit iTunes. Now, drag each of the "iTunes Music Library.xml" onto TextEdit and then do a TextEdit "Find" for that track name. The .xml file that has that track in it, is part of the set currently being used by iTunes and you should note down where that set is.
Will hear from you again, I'm sure.

  • Can I relocate the Apple Loops & Index folder to another drive?

There's like 10GB of Apple Loops on my boot drive. I would LOVE to move all of that stuff off to a data drive. Is there a PLIST file or something that tells SoundtrackPro, etc where this treasure-trove of stuff is located - or is it hardwired to be in the Library folder on the boot drive?
    G5 DP 2GHz   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

    Hello,
Loops reside in a few files.
    /Library/Audio/Apple Loops
~/Library/Audio/Apple Loops (if you installed any thiord party guys)
    The index files are here:
    /Library/Audio/Apple Loops Index
    ~/Library/Audio/Apple Loops Index
To move the loops to an external drive:
    1. Move all of the loops from the Apple Loops folders above and move them to the external drive.
    2. Delete all of the Index files.
    3. Use the Loop Browser to reindex the loops from the new drive.
Be sure to drag the loops as individual folders (in other words if you store them in a folder called loops and then have groups of loops under that) if you don't, you will have one large group instead of several smaller ones. It makes it easier to find what you want.

  • How do I relocate part of my home folder onto another drive

    Hi all
I am about to take delivery of my new Mac Pro, but with only 512MB of startup SSD I don't have room for my whole home folder. I have found plenty of info online about moving my whole home folder onto another drive, but as my external drive is only USB3 I don't want to do that. Instead I want to move my Movies and Pictures folders only and then tell my system to forget about the old location and treat the new location as though it is the home folder just for those two bits.
Sure I can just copy them over and delete the old folder contents, but as soon as I want to do something like save a pic or movie the system defaults to the old empty location.
It's not the end of the world, but if I can fix it, I'd like to. The plan is to sort this on my current Mac Mini before the new toy arrives, so I can easily set up the new one.
    All guidance gratefully received.
    Regards
    Tim

    Hello,
You can use some basic unix wizardry to make this happen.  What you will be doing is creating a unix "soft link" from your home directory to the actual location of the directories, wherever they may be.  This link serves as a "behind-the-scenes redirect" to the actual location to which you link.  For example, with the soft link in place, if you
    Here's what you do:
Use Finder to move your directories of choice from your home directory to the external HDD.  This will require your admin password.  Now you should see the folders on your external HDD, and NOT in your home folder.  For purposes of this procedure, I will assume your external HDD is named "Storage".  Wherever you see "Storage" in the following steps, replace it with the actual name of your external HDD.
    Open the Terminal app.
From the command prompt, type the following commands (with a <return> after each) to create a soft link (in this example we are using the "Movies" folder.  The "Movies" folder must have been moved in Step 1 to the external HDD):
         cd
         ln -s /Volumes/Storage/Movies Movies
Repeat the "ln -s" command for each folder that you have moved in Step 1.
    Here's what's happening in Step 3:
The "cd" command just ensures that you are in your home directory.
The "ln -s" command creates a link from the external HDD directory, to a directory in your present location (i.e., your home directory)
There is one side affect that I don't know how to get around.  Once you do this, the icon that shows up for the "Movies" folder in your home directory will no longer be the fancy system icon for the Movies folder.  It will be a vanilla folder icon, with an curved arrow.  The curved arrow is a visual indication that the file/folder is link to somewhere else.
    Hope this helps.

  • [SOLVED] VMWare folder shares override dir_colors

    Hello all,
    (Running as a Linux guest)
I've been setting up and using a dir_colors file to control the colors in ls output.
However, VMWare shared folders (and all folders inside, except for files) show with a green background. I have nothing in my dir_colors settings this up. Where is that color coming from and how can I change it?
Last edited by marfig (2010-08-12 13:16:28)

Meanwhile I've found the solution and forgot to flag this thread as solved. So here it is now.
The OTHER_WRITABLE setting in my .dir_colors file is what was defining that color.

  • Setting shared VMware folder as default download location

I have Arch set up in a VM and have my data folders shared from my host. I want to set the default download location of the Arch guest to the shared downloads folder from the host. I am unable to though, I have to create a folder within the shared folder to do so. I'm guessing it is because I am using a symbolic link to link the shared folders into my ~/.
Holy bajesus, sorry for how many times I just said folder.
But... any ideas on how I can do so...? Thus far ln -s has failed this quest

  • Access MS Access database on remote computer (shared folder)

    Hello,
    I need some help.
I've made a program and it works fine on my computer, but multiple users will be using program simultaneously, each one on his own computer conected over local network to mine computer (database is on my computer in shared folder).
When I try to access data on database (path is path of shared folder) i'm getting error 5013 (no database). The problem occurs only when I'm trying to read something from MS access database but not if I try to read data from .txt file, then it works fine...
    I'm using ADO Tools
Can someone help me, I would be very greatful?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Thanks to you Dennis I've managed to figure it out.
I'll explain this for future generations
    1) I've created DSN. To do that open ODBC Data Source Administrator:
    - for 64 bit app C:\Windows\System32\odbcad32.exe
    - for 32 bit app C:\Windows\SysWOW64\odbcad32.exe
In System DSN tab click Add.. then choose Microsoft Access Driver (*.mdb) (If you do not have this on list download that drivers from web) --> FINISH.
Enter Data Source Name (mine is Test2) --> Select... --> now because the MS Access database is on shared folder on remote PC go to Network... --> Browse... and select that shared folder --> Finish. Now you'll see all .mdb files on that folder and you choose your database --> OK --> OK --> OK
    2) Now in block diagram you connect string "DSN=your_dsn_name;" (mine was Test2) to ConnectionString connector of ADO Connection Open.vi
    It worked for me.

  • File Rights on 10.3.9 Database Application Folder?

I currently have OX 10.3.9 server installed on a G5 dual processor tower. It is an Open Directory Master server with a folder that houses teachers and students home folders along with another folder that holds our school system software.
The problem folder is in the Groups folder and named SASIxp and it contains our schools system database software. The folder is owned by admin with R/W access. The group is SASI with R/W access and Everyone is set to none for access. It is a share point setup with the AFP protocol and Inheret Rights from Parent set to Yes.
Each day I get at least 2 calls during the day that the teacher and secretary users in that building have the spinning ball in the school system software program and they have to force quit to get out. If I copy down file rights in the SASIxp folder it will be fine for a while. Some times copying down file rights does not stop the spinning ball and I must stop and restart the AFP service so they can again use the program.
I believe the problem lies in the fact that user files along with temporary files are constantly being created by the database program and I think they are taking on the rights of the person that created them.
I have rebuilt this server at least 2 times and the problem continues. Any help I can get will be "GREATLY APPRECIATED!"
G5 Dual Processor Tower   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

Thank Matt Apel. However, 10.5 on the clients was installed using the MacBoxSets. And they are standard 10.5.6, so I can't downgrade. I find it very strange that a functionality so common get's broken. So I have to sit this one out until I'm able to upgrade to 10.5 Server. Bummer, it's really a pain.

  • Does Oracle Support Running Oracle 10 Database on VMware ?

    hi experts,
I have 10g Enterprise on a Windows 64-bit Enterprise platform.
I know this is a recurring question - whether or not Oracle really supports customers that run Oracle databases in a VMWare environment.
I found a document on My Oracle Support/metalink that is dated 2007. It says VMWare is not supported.
But I think the situation may have changed since 2007.
So can anyone point me to a document that shows whether Oracle does/does not support running Oracle databases on VMware - not Oracle's VMware product but VMWare, inc. ?
Thanks for any current information. John

That last means - it is up to you to prove that the problem is not related to VMWare environment.I have never seen any scenario where Oracle demands you to prove that the problem is not related to VMware.
If its their suggested solution does not work, and they think i should, they want you to migrate it to a physical machine and test there, however this has never happend, at least not for us. We have around 100 databases in VMware, and the common talk (even from Oracle people that visits us) is that the document is only there IF THERE BY SOME CHANCE IN THE WORLD WOULD COME TO A PROBLEM FOR A COMPANY, WHERE VMWARE IS THE PROBLEM, AND ORACLE CANT HELP, they have to have a get-out clause in terms of support against VMware.
