Remote Panel & client-server model

Hii..
I am working on image processing. I have developed a VI and web published it, It was working well. But, I was unable to give my own input image from remote panel. I can give various inputs which are kept in library only. But, I could not upload my own input image.
For that purpose, i created Client- Server model. This is not web publishing. Client VI will have same front panel as Server VI. Using this model, i can give my own input image. Whatever input and controls in Client VI will be sent to server VI using shared variable. I tested it on LAN connection, it was working well.
But, when I run through internet, it became very slow...... There may be two reasons 1. Bandwidth for our public IP is less and 2. slow internet connection..
Are there any other ways to speed up the Client-Server model.............
As compared to remote panel, Client-Server model on internet is very slow.......
Give me ur suggestions, ideas to speed up this model..

Remote panels - Client Crashes Situation

Hello,
I would like to ask if someone can help me with the following situation.
I have an application which contains a top level VI and several other dialog VIs. This application can be accessed by a remote client via Remote Panels. From the top level VI (contains the menu - while loop and event structure) the client selects what he want to run. Then the front panel of his choice opens on his computer. It all runs ok.
However, if the client computer suddenly loses internet connectivity, then the Run Time Engine reports a plugin crash in the browser.
On the server side, all opened apps seem to freeze. I can turn them off one by one and then restart everything again.
Could anyone let me know how to approach this issue? I would like the client, in case a crash happens, to be able to reconnect to the application.

On the server side I am using Labview2011 with SP1, under WinXP.
On the client computer, Run Time Engine 2011, Chrome under WinXP.
The server is situated in a laboratory and it should work on its own, 24/7, without my intervention for taking control of the app.
So now, I have considered the scenario when a client connects to the application, starts running it and after a while he will use the Windows Task Manager to end the application, without considering the normal options which are available in the menu. In this case, in the browser I would get Image1. Basically the client will have to connect again to the server. On the server side, I have inserted a state where I check to see if there are any remote clients connected to my application. If no client are connected, then it closes. So as the client kills the task, imediatelly my server stops the application. So this is solved and works fine.
The second scenario is when a client does not close the application even when his time allocation has reached 0 minutes. Again, the server checks this time limit and it closes the client connection. For this, I have used in a case, the code presented as Image2. If this situation occurs, the client is disconnected and he
gets the Image 3 message on the browser. This error appears twice and each time the client presses Continue. In the end the server takes control and it is all ok.
However, what might cause this error? Is there a chance to fix it? I couldn't find any reference to it and the Remote Panels.

DSC 8.0 : How can I develop a client/server architecture

I've developed a client/server application with DSC 7.1
Now, I'm going to migrate it in DSC 8.0 and I've any problem.
1. How can I load a lvlib from a server at run time ?!
2. How can I get a shared variable list from another computer !?
3. Can I monitor shared variables from differten PCs ?!

1. Regrettably, DSC 8 does not provide a simple means for remote process control, only local. I have attached an untested example (Remote_process_control_example.vi) which should be able to accomplish what you are looking for but it requires that DSC be installed on the target machine.
2. Regrettably, DSC 8 does not provide a simple means for programmatically determining remote process and variable lists. I anticipate that this will be added in a future release but I must stress that I am not in a position to be certain of that. I have not found a reliable way around this yet.
3. In 7.1, since the tag engine only dealt with a single local process it was sufficient to have only unique tag names. In 8.0, the shared variable not only has to deal with possibly multiple local processes but remote ones as well. To accomplish this the shared variable API makes use of URLs much like those associated with the internet, although we rarely have to specify the protocol being used. Therefore, to read a variable 'baz' in process 'bar' running on machine 'foo' you would construct the following URL \\foo\bar\baz which could then be used by the datasocket read primitive to read the remote value.
Although the DSC development team chose to focus primarily on purely local systems, since this is what all existing customers already had, it is apparent that they, and the LabVIEW team as a whole, have laid the groundwork for further advancements in the remote machine aspects of the product.

LabVIEW DSC Client\Server application. How to install executable on client.

Hello all,
I'm currently programming a Client\Server application. The server application should host shared variables and the client application should read them. The client application reads the shared variable in the indicator by binding them with the indicator properties. I started the programming, and the client and server application are in the same project. In the client application I'm binding the indicator to the library in my project which has the "My Computer" as the address. My question is how I will tell the executable installed on any computer I desired to used the shared variables on the server? I have LabVIEW DSC 2009.

Hi, since we are talking about executables...all targets require both LabVIEW (which includes the shared variable engine)and DSC (a bit more complicated, here is an insight) Run-Time engines, otherwise the stand alone application won't run. Now, assuming that everything is on the same network and all executables are suppose to clients, or at least access the already created variables hosted on your PC, I believe it would be easier to find programmatically the available resources than create/deploy new libraries. If you find your self in troubles here is a guide to troubleshoot applications that uses shared variables.

Could LabView used for Client-Server Configuration?

I have plan to used LabView for local HMI to control and monitoring PLC. There are several HMI LabView. From each HMI LabView, data will transfering to Local Server to save into database and collected completely. From Local Server, data will encripted and transfer to Head Office (HO) Server via internet protocol. HO Server will simultaneous request recents data on Local Server.
I would like know more the possibility using LabView on Local and HO Server. I would like hear more detail engineering explanation please.

You may want to look into LabVIEW DSC (Data-logging and Supervisory Control). You could bind shared variable (tags) to the PLC's I/O point via an appropriate OPC server that support your flavor of PLC. DSC include a historical DB that is SQL compliant.
So the local machines monitor and log and the HO machine queries the DB for new info.

Open url in a remote panel

HI.
I want to put a button that launch a webpage. I works fine locally, when I click OK button, a new internet window browser is open with the URL.
But if I take the control in other PC client (using Web Publishing Tool) and I click OK button a internte window browser is open in THE HOST. I want to open the new window in the Client.

Hello,
When you view or control a VI using Remote Panels that VI is executing on the host side. The VI will not be able to interact with the operating system on a remote panel client. This means that it will not be possible to use this approach to open a browser window on the client side.
You could take another approach- at least the way I would do it is thusly:
Instead of putting the button that launches the page in the VI you could put it in the html file that the remote panel is hosted in.
Using javascript you could pop up a new browser window with the URL you need.
If you need to control what URL is viewed from within the VI you could make the button point to a URL that will be handled by your VI that can redirect to the URL you need. This would be easy to do in 8.6 as you could simply export the VI as a web service. Pre-8.6 you would either have to use the G web server or build a minimal web server yourself (this would be easier than it sounds since the server would have to do nothing but redirect).
I should add that this approach would require some knowledge of HTTP/HTML/JavaScript.

Labview Remote Panel and Client Aspect Ratio

Dear all professionals,
I had create an application with remote panel (webserver) enabled. I found that there is relationship between aspect ratio of client device display and the remote panel screen size. Here i attached two images of remote panel in browser which both remote panel are opened using different aspect ratio of client device.
The left 1 is the device with 1.5 aspect ratio while the right 1 is the device with 1.78 aspect ratio.
As you can seen from the images, both remote panel are shown in different size. May i ask do i miss something in the remote panel configuration?

Thank you for your reply. I also notice that the zoom % of browser is one of the issue that caused this behaviour. In the same aspect ratio with server computer( where the application running), changing zoom to 100% will help to fit remote panel that I already set when I developing the remote panel vi. But if for different aspect ratio, no matter how u change the zoom % , it won't fit the frame. I just wondering whether got another solution for this issue or not :-(

Server does not support remote panels

I am developing an online laboratory setup and hence am using a client server model..the client VI being accessed by remote users online. I have done all the necessary steps using Web Publishing tool and the configuration set up. I have also tested the VI previously online. Suddenly now when I hit the URL for the VI the panel does not load...it says Server does not support remote panels. What could be the problem?

Remote panel / Web server. II part ?

Hi all
There has been some activity about remote panels / web server in this forum.
Basically, NI documentation states LV run time, at least, must be intalled in client PC to use that feature.
In this link to post
a post from NI engenier Jeremy L. says that just to monitor a remote panel vi, NI soft is not necessary in the client PC. That option looks very interesting.
So, my questions are:
1- Somebody got to monitor a remote vi if LabView or run time is not installed in client PC.?
2- Can NI peo
ple clarify this option?
3- What is, if anything, the minimun NI soft required in client PC to monitor a remote vi front panel?

Well as I said for monitoring, NO NI software is necessary. For Remote
Control you basically need the lvrt.dll runtime and some supporting
files such as lvapp.rsc.
As the runtime gets more and more complex it is not a good idea to try
to install individual files. Eventhough the lvrt.dll contains up to now
all the code necessary to execute simple LabVIEW programs there is more
necessary to be able to for instance display the LabVIEW 6.x 3D controls
(all of the
models directory is then necessary) or in the case of the
web plugin I would assume the lvpng.dll and lvjpeg.dll will be also
necessary.
Also some registry settings have to be set so that the plugin or LabVIEW
application can find the appropriate runtime engine, unless you want to
copy all the necessary files into the same directory as your application.
In view of this I would not even consider getting a LabVIEW runtime
system onto a computer other than by adding it through the application
builder to my executable, or running the official NI runtime installer.

same Thread I post in "Portal Developement". Now I try my luck in ths category...
we implement ESS (ERP2004 with WebDynpros) in our testsystem, but we got an error and don´t know what to do...
System Landscape:
- mySAP Enterprise Portal 6.0 SP17
- Java Application Server (excluding from HR)
- mySAP ERP2004 HR-System
The Connections from the portal runs to the Java-App-Server, not direct to the HR-System (HR-System has no Java Installation and our Customer don´t want a installation, because it could be a bad performance)
We implement the Jco´s and fill out the usermapping. If we want to call the firstpage of the new ESS-Role we get this error.
Can anyone help us? Do we need some installations?

uhm... good question, long time ago...
Error should be in the JCO-Destinations, where you can choose a targetsystem for each Jco-Destination.
Since them we installed a java on the abap-system, so we have a doublestack.
In the Jco Destiantions must be the ABAP-System.
Application via SAPTicket and MetaData via fix User like DDIC.

How can I disable messages generated by Remote Panel?

I created an application (EXE) to server its panel to other network clients.
I used the Tools > Web Publishing Tool to generate a HTML code to create two different web pages to access this application using Web server:
- Embedded (for some users who need visualize the panel in real time).
- Monitor (to display panel snapshots to users updated every 1 second).
I don't need anyone controlling the remote panel, so I used this option:
Tools > Options > Web Server: Browser Access and checked Allow Viewing (not controlling) for every client connected.
Ok, both are working fine. But it a user try to Request control of VI on the Embedded page (right click in the remote panel), the application running in the server displays a message: Denied control request from XXX: Check permissions.
The embedded page stills working fine, but in the Monitor page that message appears in a box (see attached picture below)..
Is there a way to disable all messages in the remote panel? I realized that I need to access the computer where the application EXE is running to close the message.
I'm thinking in two solutions:
- Unable the right click menu in the embedded page to avoid clients request control of the remote panel.
- Run a code in the application to erase messages generated.
Has anyone an idea how to solve this?

I'm already using monitor with a delay of 1 second and this doesn't seems real time like remote panel visualization.
But you sent me a good tip: use java code to cancel right clicks at all....

Remote panel and selective control access through Security with DSC

Hi Everyone,
I looked around to see what labview had to offer concerning security of remote panel and all the solutions I've found only propose full access to a remote panel, or none. The login page is not an option for me as everyone on the intranet can access the remote panel for monitoring but not everyone can have control to the buttons on it.
With the DSC module, I can give securities to the different controls and it works great with the exe, if I log in or out, the controls appears or disapears. Unfortunately, with remote panels, those controls are always visibles. Furthermore, when I log in from a remote panel, all the other remote panels get logged in with the same username and priviledges. When I log out, same thing, it logs out all the other remote panels. So the last guy who logs in gives its priviledges to every one else who is monitoring the remote panel at that time. when he logs out, he logs everyone out. I used a reentrant vi hoping that this would solve the problem but it didnt.
I would like to do what my colleague does with Advantech without any problem. He has only 1 .exe is running on the server and whoever connects to it through webserver, just needs to log in and he has all the priviledges of an guest, operator, admin, etc.. with access to controls and features accordingly. All this without interfering with the other people using the remote panels. This colleague has always been doubtful about the capabilities of labview to do SCADA systems and uptil now, I've been able to prove him wrong.. please help me continue
There are workarounds, using remote desktop to the server instead of webserver but it definitely is not as practical for the client and it will need quite some work to to synchronise all the exes open from the differents sessions, through the use of shared variables, binding and securities.

The NI security info is on the server (local domain with groups and users), and the running exes as well. The remote panel is not supposed to be accessed by internet, at least not yet, but just by the computers on the network and thinkline computers who are directly connected to the servers. the remote panel is accessed through the simple url: http://serverip/Application.html
There is no problem with accessing the remote panel of the exes on the server from another computer on the network. But there are several security issues when logging in and out with the NI Security Programmatic Login and logout VIs through the remote panel..
The 1st problem occurs when several people access the remote panel at the same time. In my setup, everyone is allowed to check what's happening on the front panel of the running exe, go through the tabs, check the graphs, the tables, etc.. , but only the administrators and the operators can send commands to the machines and the production line through this remote panel. Hence some buttons are accessible to all users, while others are only accessible depending on the privileges of the person logged in.
So like I said in the 1st post, I configured some buttons to be accessible only by the users of the admin group. When the exe runs, it's perfect, if I log in and out with an admin account, the buttons appears and disappear accordingly. But when I check the remote panel, those admin buttons are always visible, even if I am logged in as a guest or even logged out. Is it because the remote panel only needs minimum runtime engine and doesnt use the dsc runtime engine? if so, any work around?
Furthermore, another big problem is that if I login as an admin in one remote panel, then login as an guest in another remote panel, and then logout back from the first remote panel, it says: "User Domain/Guest logged out". Hence, my second login logged out my first user. I can actually see the admin buttons appearing and disappearing on the exe when login as admin and guest from the different remote panels.
So that's it, I would like my remote panel to behave like a normal scada system, with one exe running in the back (on the server) and with all the users accessing it through web server. Several users might/will access the remote panel at the same time and each of the users have a login/password that grant some of them the privileges to take some actions while giving the others only monitoring rights.

Detect remote panel connections?

Is there a way for my VI to 'detect' when someone has connected to it with a Remote Panel and requested control?
I have an issue (due to the size/complexity of my VI I'm sure) that when a RP gains control, after a period of time, the main VI begins to slow down and starts to lose data (it's coming from a TCP connection)!
I'd like to be able to see when a RP gains control, and automatically log them off after a period of time (5 min?). I know that there is a connection time-out on the web publishing page, but it appears to only come into play if 1 RP has control and another requests it. I need to be able to limit the control time of a single RP.

Well, it almost worked...
I'm attaching my little test program 'RP Control.vi'. I've compiled this into an executable that's in my server path, so I can get to it from my laptop (on my network). When I run it from my server, I can press my 'Start' button and nothing happens--no client RP's are connected, so this is as expected.
When I connect via my laptop to the server, my laptop is now the remote client, but it's hasn't requested control -- again, nothing happens when I press my 'Start' button.
When the laptop requests control of the VI, and I press the 'Start' button from the laptop, I see all my data fields filled in, and I show my calculated 'End Time?' which is 1 minute after the laptop got control.
I can then keep pressing my 'Start' button, and see the 'Time Now' update, and when 1 minute elapses, I see my 'Close' LED turn on, indicating I should have activated the 'Close Connection To Client'.
However, the laptop still has control of the VI...it hasn't returned to the server.
Any suggestions as to what I may be doing wrong, or does the 'Close Connection To Client' work differently?

Looking at the Method - 'RP.Close Connection To Client' does this return control of the VI to the server copy (which is what I want to do), or does it try to completely disconnect the Remote Panel (which is not what I'm looking for)?

How to Detect LV runtime engine prior to showing Remote panel in browser?

I work on a web server that delivers remote panels embedded in browser windows. On new machines, the labview runtime engine needs to be downloaded and installed.
Currently, when a new user 'hits' the remote panel, the user is prompted and then downloads the component. However, the user experiences some errors that can be confusing. The first time, the remote panel is not embedded properly and the user must go 'BACK' then reload the page.
We would like to check and detect whether the LVRT engine is installed prior to posting a webpage that contains a remote panel.
What is the best way to detect whether the LVRT engine is installed on a remote computer?

Would it be possible for this lingering process to check to see if the web server read has timed out? The default is 60 seconds, and you can change it by going to Tools>>Options>>Web Server: Configuration.
