Remove/replace Gummiboot with GRUB?

Are their any how-tos / wiki on the best way to remove and replace gummiboot with GRUB. This is the closest discussion I could find (the opposite of what I'd like to do):
https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=183210
I have Window 7 installed using bios to boot. Cannot change Windows 7 to UEFI to match Arch as Win7 uefi isn't supported on this laptop. (already tried as well)
http://na.alienwarearena.com/forums/thr … -boot-mode
I need boot menu where Arch GPT UEFI and Win7 MBR BIOS can coexist.
Thanks!

Grub won't offer you to boot alternatively from UEFI and BIOS. Only the boot manager of your firmware can do that, if it supports it (my ASUS motherboard do) (to access it, I need to press F8 while the machine boot but this depends of your firmware) and you will have to choose the way you want to boot from your UEFI/BIOS. You will then need two bootloaders, one for BIOS, one for UEFI (you can use your Windows 7 bootloader to boot Windows). The reason of this is that is your firmware which decides to put your system in BIOS or UEFI mode and once it has decided in which system your computer should boot, a bootloader can't revert the decision. There are versions of grub for BIOS and for UEFI but there can't exist a single version allowing you to choose between the two systems.
If your firmware allow easily to switch between the two, you could:
1) Partition your hard disk with an MBR (required for BIOS booting Windows 7), mark the Windows partitions bootable and install a standard MBR to the boot sector of your hard disk.
2) Have an EFI partition (type ef00) with a UEFI bootloader (which may be gummiboot or grub, but it will necessarily be UEFI aware only, unable to start Windows 7) configured to boot archlinux.
This way a BIOS boot should boot windows 7 and an UEFI boot should boot archlinux. Now the feasibility of that depends of your motherboard (could you easily switch from UEFI/BIOS, does the firmware accepts to boot an UEFI system from an MBR partition?).
You could also boot archlinux in BIOS mode. You will not loose anything, given the fact that Linux don't currently really use UEFI or Bios once it is booted and both system can then be seen by the same bootloader (for example grub).
Note: to remove gummiboot, simply remove the package. Use efibootmgr (efibootmgr -b xxxx -B, where xxxx is the number shown by efibootmgr) to remove the boot entry. But read what I tell you before, no bootloader except the one of your firmware could allow you to choose between BIOS and UEFI booting.

Then anything you had on the phone is gone.
    Settings>General>Resets>Erase All Content and Settings.
Set it up as a new device again.

There is no way to stop iTunes from doing exactly what it is designed to do.
The iPhone is designed to sync with one and only one computer.
If you have moved/copied your iTunes library from your old computer to your new one, then iTunes wiping your device is no problem.  You would simply sync and iTunes will put all the content back.

    Hello Shy guy,
    You can try this:
    1. Go to the iTunes Store or App Store
    2. Scroll down, there you will see Apple ID: "your email" (below Redeem and Send Gift)
    3. Tap on that button
    4. Tap on Sign Out
Now you should be able to use another Apple ID.

  • Replace GRUB2 with Gummiboot

I've istalled GRUB2 during installation. How can I replace it with Gummiboot and enable UEFI from the BIOS without killing my booting?

    Xabre wrote:
Depends on many factors, first one being partitioning. GPT or MBR? Have room for EFI partition? In general, what you need to do is to make sure that your disk is in GPT mode, create EFI partition, transfer contents of /boot to it, mount EFI partition at /boot, install gummiboot, switch to EFI mode in BIOS, boot.
Start with https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/GU … MBR_to_GPT, then go on from there.
EDIT: just to be clear, yes, you can keep your disk in MBR mode, but in that case you may run into issues, as some board really do not like UEFI-MBR boot. Converting disk to GPT scheme is fairly safe these days, and may save you from troubles later.

  • Removing a 2003 DC and replacing it with 2008R2 DC

    hi all.
i have been doing a lot of reading and think i know the correct process, i just wanted to double check with the community.
we have 2 DC's in our environment DC1 and DC2
DC1 is 2008r2 and hosts ADDS/DNS/DHCP/GC and all FSMO roles
DC2 is 2003 and hosts ADDS/DNS/GC and is there for redundancy
DC2 is a bit on the old side and i would like to remove it and replace it with a newer 2008r2 DC, from what i have read it seems the best process for this would be to run DCPROMO from DC2 and demote it and remove then promote a new server
DC3 is the server in waiting so running DCPROMO to promote it to a DC and allow replication to do its stuff and job done.
are there any steps that i am missing?
    cheers
    Gordon

    Hello,
I wouldn't care with the naming/numbering. So run dcpromo for DC3, make it DNS/GC and if this machine has complete replicated an you have checked everything with the support tools start with demoting DC2.
That way you still have redundancy and can check BEFORE removing the old DC.
Assure that the new machine has also the SYSVOL/NETLOGON share after promotion. I recommend that you use ONLY DC1 as DNS server on the NIC from DC3 and NONE else. Later on you can change the DNS server settings.
The support tools can be used to create output files:
    dcdiag /v /c /d /e /s:dcname >c:\dcdiag.log
repadmin /showrepl dc* /verbose /all /intersite >c:\repl.log  ["dc* is a place holder for the starting name of the DCs if they all begin the same (if more then one DC exists)]
    dnslint /ad /s "DCipaddress" (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/321045)
    ADREPLSTATUS
http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=30005 can also be exported to file.

  • -refurbished iMac has a 20GB partition for Boot Vamp with FAT format.  I want to remove this and replace it with a much bigger format with NTFS formats?

My (new to me) Apple refurbished iMac has a 1TB hard drive. Running OS 10.6.7 Snow Leopard.  When I tried to install a Boot Camp partition, prior to installling Windows 7- 64 bit, I discovered that the machine had a 20 GB Boot Camp partition, too small for what I need.  HOw do I remove the 20 GB partition, and replace it with a 500 GB partition?

I have a number of PC and Mac Pro running Windows Pro, and the OS only needs 80GB partition, plus whatever data etc.
New but used does not sound like Apple Store (refurbished) Specials which would be a 'virgin' OS.
I would reformat and do your own clean install.
There may be something wrong and why it was left that way for one thing. May be a problem with the partition table.
Boot from OS X DVD and you can usually try Disk Utility to "-" remove and then repair and get back, and you of course normally should be able to just use Boot Camp Assistant which is one of its functions - not just to create partition.
For normal resizing, or creating the free space you need has to be in one contiguous chunk and not be fragmented, which is hard to imagine that 500GB is going to be intact.
And whatever you do, rule #1 in the pdf guide: backup before beginning.

  • Question about minimizing. why ddid apple remove minimizing and replace it with NOTHING?

on tiger, i could double click in the "gray bar" on top of every window in order to minimize it. this was a very good idea, since the buttons to minimize, close or maximize are very small and i also tend to activate my upper left hot corner when moving my cursor to the buttons....
i think it's good to always change stuff. but if apple removes a function to replace it with nothing at all, i just don't get the point of removing it, since it was a good idea. i know: less is more! but i don't think it's meant this way

They didn't remove it. You just don't know where to turn it on. The "gray bar" is called the title bar.

  • How to replace grub-bios with grub-efi.

Hello Everybody. I have been booting with bios, and using Grub as my bootloader. Now I want to switch to UEFI, but still use Grub. Is it possible to switch from bios to UEFI without using a live usb? Thanks

One caveat to keep in mind is that keeping both BIOS and EFI versions of GRUB installed can result in conflicts, since the two versions need subtly different configuration files. If you set it up right, the grub.cfg files needn't conflict, since they'd be in different locations (/boot/grub/grub.cfg for BIOS, /boot/efi/EFI/grub/grub.cfg or /boot/efi/EFI/arch/grub.cfg for EFI, probably). Some distributions (like Ubuntu) don't set it up right, though. I'm not sure what Arch does in this respect. There may be conflicts in deeper-level configuration files (/etc/grub.d/* files, for instance), too, but I'm not sure of that. If there are deeper-level conflicts, though, you're setting yourself up for pain in one or the other boot mode if you try to maintain both versions of GRUB from standard packages.
Overall, if you want to do both BIOS-mode and EFI-mode booting, I recommend using different boot loaders, such as GRUB for BIOS and the kernel's EFI stub loader (with gummiboot or rEFInd as a boot manager atop that, if you like) for EFI. This will avoid any risk of conflict between BIOS-mode and EFI-mode GRUB. OTOH, if somebody who's more familiar with GRUB's zoo of configuration files and the similarities and differences between BIOS-mode and EFI-mode GRUB can say with certainty that there's no conflict, you can ignore this recommendation. Also, I'm not a fan of GRUB 2; IMHO it's a bloated pig of a program that tries to do too much and so ends up doing much of it poorly. Thus, setting up something else on EFI will help you transition away to something saner.

If you are using Quicken 2004 or older you first need to convert the data files while still running in Tiger/Leopard/Snow Leopard:
Download Quicken 2006 (PPC) from Intuit:
    https://quicken.intuit.com/support/help/patching/quicken-2006-manual-updates--ma c-/GEN82200.html
Open your data file in Quicken 2006 (PPC) and it will automatically convert it to Quicken 2005/6/7 data file.
Open this new data file in the Quicken 2007 for Intel (Snow Leopard, Lion, Mt. Lion, Mavericks) that Niel linked you to (a full Intel version for $15).

  • ●  Remove Black (K) and replace it with CMY...

    Hello -
I regulary have to remove the Black (K) for printing cost reason at work...
Some time ago, I found a small and easy trick which involved playing between a specific profile and then past the CMYK picture to the RGB mode and come back to CMYK...
The Black was replaced by a mix between the Cyan, the Magenta and the Yellow, without losing to much "relief" in the picture.
It works perfectly except when I come back to my "regular" CMYK profile (which for Europe is the FOGRA39...), the Black is back again!  :-(
Does someone know a better way to accomplish this?
Remove the Black and replace it with CMY?
FYI. I don't want to just remove the black, but also to replace it with CMY...
Thank you, have a nice day...

    Hello  Gernot -
    Thank you for your reply,
It could (not sure yet) make the job,
    except that I can't choose my europen profile (FOGRA39…)  -> See attachment…
Could you help me on this?
Also, you mentionned "not a good idea" to do this, what do you mean by this?
    Thank you,

  • Backup DC past tombstone and need help replacing it with another DC with the same name and IP

    Hey Everyone
We have a single domain in a forest with 2 DCs with AD integrated DNS configured. The primary DC with all the FSMO roles is a VM (Server 2008 R2) and the backup DC is a physical server (Server 2008 non-R2).
The backup DC's hardware is very old and has been giving us a lot of issues where the system would intermittently BSOD, freeze, black screen only etc. and as a result, the server was turned off for a very long time, definitely beyond the default tombstone
lifetime of either 60 or 180 days.
We want to replace this bad backup DC with another physical server which became available as a spare and is much newer and in a working condition hardware wise. We also wish to ultimately give it the same name (FQDN) and IP to basically make it an outright
replacement for the current bad backup DC.
    My questions are:
1.) If we are in a position where the bad server could possibly physically boot and start the operating system and have network connectivity, will we be able to use DCPROMO as one would normally do to demote this DC, or will it have to be done forcefully,
while keeping in mind as I said that the DC is way past the tombstone lifetime period?
2.) If it has to be done forcefully, I am aware that the meta data needs to be cleaned up in AD on the working primary DC, although I have never performed such a process before. If this is done, are there any other things I need to look out for or do
before I attempt to replace it with the other server which I will set up wit the same name (FQDN) and IP, then add to the domain, and then lastly promote as per normal using DCPROMO?
I know we will have to upgrade the scema to 2012RM as the replacement backup DC will be running this newer operating system.
Anything else you wish to add or point out to me would be highly appreciated. Thank you in advance.
    Regards,
    CTV

    Hi,
I would suggest please do the metadata cleanup using the script and then remove object from below DNS console and then run the repadmin /syncall /Aed
    https://gallery.technet.microsoft.com/scriptcenter/d31f091f-2642-4ede-9f97-0e1cc4d577f3
Repeat running the vbs script till the wrong/unnecessary dc’s are removed.
Cross check the removal – dsa.msc [ad users and computers] > Domain Controllers OU
     Adsiedit.msc
Expand domain partition, select OU=Domain Controllers, make sure only the necessary domain controllers are listed.
     Delete the incorrect domain controllers.

Expand the forward lookup zones\domain.com folder
    i.
Delete Host(A) records of dc’s which are non-existant.
    ii.
