Removed some files and... problem...

Can I restore to a how my computer was a couple hours ago? I have proper backups done through TM. I did not keep track of all the files that were removed while I was uninstalling an application.

I was able to fix the problem by re-installing an application...

  • Rokr: "Some files and applications are not accessible"

    Help please? When using USB to connect to my ibook the phone gives me this message: "Coneced as Storage Device: Some file and applications are not accessible". I then go to my desktop and search through my phone to find no files not to mention not showing up in iTunes. Could someone please help?

    I am having a similar problem.
    My RoKr was connecting and syncing properly until I performed the latest software upgrade (which upgraded both iTunes and iSync). After the upgrade my phone does not show up either in iTunes or on the desktop. When I plug the phone it indicates that it is connecting as a storage device and some file/applications will not be accessible. However the phone does not appear on the desktop or in iTunes. When I go into iSync the phone is only recognized via bluetooth, the USB connection is not detected.
    I remain tuneless and await a solution...

  • How can i password protect some files and web sites?

    How can I possword protect some files and web sites on my mac air so others using my laptop can't access them?

    Set a password for your user; create other user accounts for when other people want to use it. You can create a "guest" login which gets wiped after every logout, if that's more appropriate for them.

    I don't think you're on iOS 5, I think you're using iOS 6.  That's the latest version.
    Unless you've used iCloud to back up your documents, you won't be able to restore them.  And for future reference, you don't have to uninstall Pages to update your iPad anymore.  Sorry about this.

  • Macbook pro starts up but i see picture of some files and a question mark

    So I was on my laptop today and it just outta nowhere froze , the song i was listening stopped and i couldn't change the page, i could move the trackpad but nothing else.
    so i clicked on the off button and turned it off.
    then i tried to turn it on again but while loading it just stayed blank and this picture of some files and a question mark on them appeared, i have no idea what's going on.
    I turned it off again and turned it back on and the little apple appeared and it was loading but then a sign appeared like one of prohibited (the one that's a circle and has a slash across it) and idk what to do! i'm so frustrated all my school files are there and idk why this happened in the first place.
    i turned it off and just put it to charge.
    lately i've been using it a lot and i had a few things on when it froze , so im just gonna leave it off for a while but what can i do?
    how do u solve this? has anyone had this happened to their macbook pro already? i bought it just last year idk why this is happening.

    The folder and question mark means it cannot find a valid OSX Boot Volume, you need to Boot from your original install DVD (hold c at start) and then run Disc Utility from the top menu bar and run both 'Repair Disc' and 'Repair Permissions'. If it still doesn't boot from the internal hard drive then you need to boot from that install DVD again and do an archive (re)install of the operating system. (Your User data will be saved that way)

    disaster, thanks firefox 1 year of photos lost

    Thanks for the obvious question. I mean it. The very same thought came to me this morning and, sure enough, I had booted into another drive--my old one that, of course, had the old desktop, etc.
    It didn't dawn on me that this was the case since I hadn't set it as a boot drive but I guess in the course of all the restarts I did, it got switched.
    I'm back to normal again.

  • I removed some files ... and now ...

    I have had a few adventures with my Mac during the last year.
    Basically - do it like in the textbook!
    I happened to want to change my Main account, because of much "garbage" lieing around. So, after a few nice tips, I just did that. Mail, Files and what I wanted "fresh".
    A year later, I happened to remove the Old Account's Mail in ~/Library . And all my Mail was missing. Apple finally helped me get it back.
    Now, the Other Day, I bought Duplicate Detective. So I cleaned out lots of duplicates. Then lots of iTunes files were gone, since I still am unsure of which ones are used :-) , Time Machine (maybe) fixed that...
    Also I tried a tip I read, about copying/moving (?) logins from Mac to iCloud. I did that, and now, after resetting both Keychain (I had to for another reason - I did Internet Reset of Main Password) and iCloud Keychain, I still have not dared trying the tip again, for managing to get the same logins on Mac and iCloud.
    Also, I still do not understand how to get my changed passwords to pop up in the login dialogues. Keychain troubles, or what am I doing wrong?!
    Of course, I'd to all these things again :-) , because I'm retired and want my Mac nicely running, tuned as it can be!
    Thanks!

    I forgot another thing that I "accidentally" did:
    I missed the options for buying a SSD with the Mac mini.
    So I ordered a cheap 120 GB (yes, it seems to be enough) SSD drive, with a cabinet that is ok.
    However, Apple do not recommend external SSD. I suspect this is because power on do not always make the Mac boot properly - my cabinet is without power supply, if that may be the reason. Bu my Mac do not need to be started often .

  • Removing localised files, any problems that could develop?

    This might be a dumb question....I was just concerned if I removed all localised files except english language ones, would that affect system fonts in other languages?
    Would it affect language support in web browsers (that is, the ability to display sites in languages other than english)?
    I was just confused as in Windows adding language support was connected in a way to installing fonts etc and also effected Internet Explorer.
    To the best of my knowledge localisation files are there only so the program can display the text in the menu's and the program itself in different languages. I just wanted some confirmation and clarification, thanks.

    No and yes (maybe). I use DeLocalizer http://www.bombich.com/software/local.html to remove all foreign .lproj files, but can still display some webpages in their native language, although I can't understand them. I've been doing this for over four years without any problem.

  • Removed some files from library folder

    moved files from library folder and attempted to put them back after experiencing major changes and problem. This is not correcting the situation what can be done to restore it back to what it was before I started?

    Hi Ali,
    Update, I did a verify permissions with disk utility and some stuff is where it should be now, (recovered iphoto yeah) but still a problem with other things as before.
    So to answer your questions,
    What is the exact path to this folder? And please post the contents of the folder.
    I get to her old itunes by the following path;
    home>music>itunes>itunes music - this folder contains folder icons of all her old itunes library, each artist has a folder, such as amy cook>list of albums>list of songs - if selected will than open itunes and will import to new itunes library.
    I don't quite understand the heirarchy you are describing. Please post the contents of her Home folder.
    Her home folder contains
    Desktop
    Documents
    Library
    Movies
    Music
    Pictures
    plus 9 folders she had created over the past four years these are intact and accessible to proper application programs (ie documents open in appleworks, pictures are from the pictures library not iphoto, 3rd party software such as genealogy programs are intact and up to date)
    "I find some old unchanged items such as itunes, imovie, email mailbox items, in a folder that she created before the change took place in her user
    account."
    What is the exact path to this folder?
    As for this folder some things were moved back to proper places with the above mentioned verify permissions, some like, mailbox items, I was able to import to current settings to restore to how it use to be. From what I gather she created this file when things were going wrong and she feared messing the whole thing up. I access this by the following path;
    home>library>(then the folder she created) Library do not touch.
    When I compare the main library file to my account main library file they do not contain the same items in fact many of the missing items seem to be in this folder that she created. I assume the ones I need are in this file she created but I am really hesitant to just start moving things around out of fear of creating more problems on her side or messing up my side.
    If you have sufficient available disk space, you shouldn't have any problem, but you need a reliable backup, just in case.
    In regards to archive/install - sufficient available disk space meaning as much or more than what I am currently using? How do I check this to be sure?
    Which brings me to a whole new question if you have time?
    We do have an external back up system, which we used before a semi-recent move, (I plan on finding the box it is packed in believe me), however we attempted to use imacs backup program to do a quicker backup, were able to back up her side onto disks, but when I attempted to do the same on my side I received an failure error screen something about a drained buffer and being unable to perform a backup. Please tell me I have not fried my dvd drive!!!
    Thanks again, hope I answered in a way that is helpful to you.

  • How do i transfer some files and applications to and make my ssd a bootable drive

    I have a mbp 2009.  i'm using the owc data doubler - installing 250gb ssd and keeping my 250 HDD.  I want to transfer some apps and files from the HDD to the SSD and make the SSD the bootable drive.  I'm not too familiar with teh inner-workings, so i'd appreciate a step-by-step instruction

    First - if you want to have the SSD as your boot drive, put it in your hard drive bay and put your hard drive in the optical bay. MacBook Pros 'expect' the boot drive to be in the main bay - not the secondary bay.
    After you've made the swap, hold down the option key whilst booting and select your hard drive to start up. Once you've booted, use Disk Utility to format the SSD ("Mac OS Extended (Journaled)") with a single GUID partition. Now you'll be ready to start moving things around.
    The best thing you can do - since the HD and the SSD are the same size - is simply to use Carbon Copy Cloner to clone your 'old' drive to the SSD. Then you can boot from the SSD, erase (reformat) your hard drive and then move any files on the SSD that you want on your HD. If I were you, I would try to keep most of your music, photos & other docs on the HD and your applications, etc., on the SSD. DO NOT just move your entire user directory to the HD as there are likely some files that are expected to be found in your user folder (the user Library, etc.).
    Easy enough?

  • How to remove Database Files and Backup from ASM

    Hi All,
    Oracle Database 11.2.0.3
    OEL 5.7
    We have a host for restore purposes.
    We execute monthly or quarterly restore operations to verify that I am able to restore a subset of the data in the given amount of time or to other purposes.
    I have a automated script to Clone the Database, but to Clone Database we need remove the old database from ASM before start this operation. I want remove only Database files and keep the configuration (such as oratab/network/ocr and so on).
    Question: There is a easy way to remove these files without connect on ASM or by using DBCA?
    Appreciate any helps.

    Yes... there is a easy way. Use command DROP DATABASE.
    Use the DROP DATABASE command to delete the target database and, if RMAN is connected to a recovery catalog, unregister it. RMAN removes all datafiles, online redo logs, and control files belonging to the target database. By default, RMAN prompts for confirmation.
    Put this command on your script before clone your database:
    RMAN> CONNECT TARGET SYS@test1
    RMAN> STARTUP FORCE MOUNT
    RMAN> SQL 'ALTER SYSTEM ENABLE RESTRICTED SESSION';
    RMAN> DROP DATABASE INCLUDING BACKUPS NOPROMPT;Regards,

  • Can't delete some files and folders.

    Hi. Recently, I have downloaded some files from the internet. But when I want to delete them, it is impossible. Computer asks for administrator code (I am the administrator), which I give allright, but the file just stay where it is. Same thing for some folders. I managed to empty them, but they won't go to the trash. Repairing permissions didn't change anything. Help please. Thx.

    Check here:
    http://www.thexlab.com/faqs/faqs.html
    Also try highlighting a file and then pressing   COMMAND I  and see if the file is locked, if so try unchecking the Locked box and try again.
    Also check into TrashIt:

  • Rman create some files  and very big size

    Dear all,
    I was implement rman back up on windows 2003 R2 with oracle9i.When i ran script
    for backup as below :
    RUN {
    allocate channel ch1 type disk;
    CHANGE ARCHIVELOG ALL CROSSCHECK;
    CROSSCHECK ARCHIVELOG ALL;
    DELETE NOPROMPT EXPIRED ARCHIVELOG ALL;
    BACKUP DATABASE PLUS ARCHIVELOG;
    CROSSCHECK BACKUP;
    DELETE NOPROMPT EXPIRED BACKUP;
    DELETE NOPROMPT OBSOLETE;
    RELEASE CHANNEL ch1;
    EXIT;
    During executed these script i found rman create some files the name is "CQISBDNR_1_1" and the size around 17 gb. @ "D:\oracle\ora92\database"
    and my config as below :
    RMAN> show all;
    RMAN configuration parameters are:
    CONFIGURE RETENTION POLICY TO RECOVERY WINDOW OF 2 DAYS;
    CONFIGURE BACKUP OPTIMIZATION OFF; # default
    CONFIGURE DEFAULT DEVICE TYPE TO DISK; # default
    CONFIGURE CONTROLFILE AUTOBACKUP ON;
    CONFIGURE CONTROLFILE AUTOBACKUP FORMAT FOR DEVICE TYPE DISK TO 'E:\Rmanbk\CF%F'
    CONFIGURE DEVICE TYPE DISK PARALLELISM 1; # default
    CONFIGURE DATAFILE BACKUP COPIES FOR DEVICE TYPE DISK TO 1; # default
    CONFIGURE ARCHIVELOG BACKUP COPIES FOR DEVICE TYPE DISK TO 1; # default
    CONFIGURE CHANNEL DEVICE TYPE DISK FORMAT 'E:\Rmanbk\%d_DB_%u_%s_%p';
    CONFIGURE MAXSETSIZE TO UNLIMITED; # default
    CONFIGURE SNAPSHOT CONTROLFILE NAME TO 'E:\RMANBK\SNCFAPPR.ORA';
    What happend ? and Pls advise !
    Thanks for advance !
    Chara

    I don't see any thing wrong in having a 17Gb rman backup file. It is just your backup in a single piece. You have configured rman to use the maximum size possible:
    BACKUP DATABASE PLUS ARCHIVELOG
    and
    CONFIGURE MAXSETSIZE TO UNLIMITED; # default
    As long as you have enough space to grow and you can transfer your backup piece to a safe place in a timely manner, you may cope with this.

  • Need help to start with some file and text manipulation

    Hello script mavens,
    I need help with starting a script that does the following:
    -within a base folder it takes an inventory (list?) of all the files (which happen to be image files).
    -creates a new folder inside the base folder and calls it imagesX where X increases by one every time the script is run
    -moves all the files into the images folder
    -within the base folder it creates a new text file and calls it imagesX.js
    -writes a "//-" into imagesX.js
    -then writes the list of filenames into the imagesX.js twice, separated by an empty line, and adds a semicolon to the end of each filename and saves imagesX.js
    -from a folder a level above the base folder it copies a file called index.html into the base folder and renames in indexX.html
    -in indexX.html it replaces a string "replaceThis" with "imagesX.js"
    The task is more complex but this would help me tremendously do the rest.
    If I am asking for too much on this forum please let me know

    This should get you started.
    The description of how you want to write the data isn't clear, but the rest should work (untested):
    property imageNum : 0 -- last used ImageNumber
    -- within a base folder it takes an inventory (list?) of all the files (which happen to be image files).
    -- get the folder:
    set baseFolder to (choose folder)
    -- now get the files within it:
    tell application "Finder"
    set fileList to every file of folder baseFolder as alias list
    end tell
    --creates a new folder inside the base folder and calls it imagesX where X increases by one every time the script is run
    tell application "Finder"
    set imageNum to imageNum + 1
    set newImageFolder to make new folder at baseFolder with properties {name:"images" & imageNum}
    -- moves all the files into the images folder
    move every file of folder baseFolder to newImageFolder
    --within the base folder it creates a new text file and calls it imagesX.js
    set textFile to (open for access file (baseFolder as text) & "images" & imageNum & ".js" with write permission)
    --writes a "//-" into imagesX.js
    write "//-" to textFile
    -- then writes the list of filenames into the imagesX.js twice, separated by an empty line, and adds a semicolon to the end of each filename and saves imagesX.js
    -- need more info here
    -- a blank line between each instance of the file name? or all file names, blank line, all file names again?
    -- an example, please
    close access textFile
    --from a folder a level above the base folder it copies a file called index.html into the base folder
    --and renames in indexX.html
    --in indexX.html it replaces a string "replaceThis" with "imagesX.js"
    -- the easiest way of doing this is to read the file and write a new copy with the changes - that's easier than changing it in situ:
    set indexHTML to (read file "index.html" of folder (container of baseFolder))
    set {oldTIDs, my text item delimiters} to {my text item delimiters, "replaceThis"}
    set indexHTML to text items of indexHTML
    set my text item delimiters to "imagesX.js"
    set indexHTML to indexHTML as text
    set my text item delimiters to oldTIDs
    set indexFile to (open for access file ("index" & imageNum & ".html") with write permission)
    write indexHTML to indexFile
    close access indexFile
    end tell
