Can we rename an existing member is Essbase using ODI...

You could develop an ODI procedure or possibly customize a KM and add some Java code to call the essbase Javi API to rename members.
I am not sure of your skill levels or what you are trying to achieve so I can't really tell you everything you need to know.

Hi,
If this member has already been loaded to Essbase, you will need to add the new member to Essbase, copy data from old member to new member (using calc script is probably easiest), then can remove old member. This is based on functionality that exists in Essbase not an ODI limitation.
You can also change the alias in Essbase and this would not cause any issues, and the alias could be used for reporting.

How can we delete a member in Essbase using ODI

You have to do it just like you do with essbase, unfortunately you can't just delete, well you could if you wrote some custom java with the essbase api.
What you have to do is create a load rule in EAS and an interface in ODI, in the load rule you would have "remove unspecified" and this would remove any members not in the rule file.

Renaming Member Names

I have member names that I need to change in Planning 9.2. I know I can change the member names one by one in Planning, but that would take a long time. I have 350 members that I need to be changed from N1 - N350 to B1 - B350. Does anybody know a way to change the the member names automatically? I haven't found anything in HAL yet. Regards.

I generally suggest the member names be static codes and the alias be the only thing which changes -- this does affect your code readability however allows you to use HAL and other methods to rename the alias.
Other folks may have the answer to how to rename using HAL however our method didn't require that.

Hyperion Business Rules - Updating to use New Member in Essbase Outline

We have a business rule that needs updated to include a new cost center.
"Allocated Account" = ("Account 1"->CC1->Product->Project->"Channel 1" + "Account 1"->CC2->Product->Project->"Channel 1") / ("Account 5"->CC_3->Product->Project->"Channel 1" + "Account 5"->CC_4->Product->Project->"Channel 1");
CC2 is a cost center that we just added to the Essbase outline and does not have data yet. When I try to validate the business rule, I get an error:
Cannot calculate. Essbase Error(1200497): Error compiling formula for [Allocated Account] (line 33): unknown member name [CC2] in function ...
I am new to business rules and have no clue why it doesn't like the new cost center.

Yes, I can find the member name in the outline. I don't understand what you mean by "refreshing" the outline. I have saved the outline.

Unable to map to ignore member for Essbase

I have an FDM application, created in 9.3.1, which has Essbase as the target. I am able to map to leaf members, but unable to map to 'Ignore'. I get the following:
Error: Error updating record.
Detail: An invalid value was entered for the dimension (Entity)
The 'Ignore Map Item' in Application Settings is set to "Ignore."
Does anyone have any idea why this does not work? I've used targets of HFM and Essbase in the past without issue.

The best way to handle this is while in the Mapping Tables, Doubl-click the Target Account (or target dimension member) field, place your mouse over the little sideways triangle and click "Browse For Target Value". If you can locate the "Ignore" in the member list then select and click the Update Grid but if you do not see the value then the Essbase metadata will have to be updated to include it.

unless you wrote something using the API, then no you cannot update metadata members in Essbase from Smart View. You can Update Planning metadata members from Smart View(Not EPMA created but Classic) and have them pushed to the Essbase cube from Smart View

How to Calculate the Level 0 Attribute Member in Essbase.

I have Attribute Dimension called "Bucket" and the type is Text type.I have 10members under it(Buc1,Buc2,Buc3.........Buc10).
While exporting the data from Application I wanted to export onli Buc2 attribute data only.
So can you please suggest how could I treat with this attribute Level 0 in Calculation Script.

Rename essbase cube in eal

Can we rename Essbase cube in EAL ? where all we need to change ?

I did following steps:
Renamed database/application in EAS
In EAL added new essbase databas
Edited the bridge and assigned new essbase database/application name
Opened the bridge
Bridge showed new names for essbase database/application as 'available' in various tabs
So it means its pointing to new one now. So nothing more needs to be done in bridge ? And there would be no impact on data ? Everything else would remain same ? We can use this renamed cube in essbase for reporting now ?

How to exclude a Member in Outline

I Added 2 members (List Price,Product Name) in a Essbase Outline Under Dimension(Product) as detailed level. But the requirement is I want to list out only the product name but not the list price in excel sheet when the user drill down the Product dimension. Kindly guide me.

Data Load behaviour in Essbase

Hello all-
I am loading data from Flat File using a server Rule File. In the rule file i have properties for a feild where in it replaces a name in flat file for member name in outline so it is somwhat like this:
Replace With
Canada 00-200-SE
Belgium 00-300- SE
and so on
Now in my flat file there was a new member for example china & the replacement for it was not present in Rule File & when the data was loaded in the system it didnt rejected that record on the contrary it loaded the values for china in
the region which was above it and overwrited the values for the original one.
Is this the normal behavior of essbase , I was thinking that record should have been rejected .
I know when we do a Lock & Send via Addin & if member is not present in outline it give you warning when you lock that sheet & eventually if you dont delete that member from the template it will load data against it in the member above it.
Is there a waok around for this problem or this is what it is ?
I am on Hyperion Planning / Essbase Version 9.3.1.

Still thinking how does these properties effects the way data is being loaded right now. Have gone through DBAG & i dont see a reason y any of these peoperties might be affecting the load^^^Here's what I think is happening: China is not getting mapped, but the replacement for Belgium is occuring and resolves to a valid member name. Essbase sees China and doesn't recognize it (you knew all of this already).
When the load occurs, Essbase says (okay, I am anthromorphizing, but you get the ida) "Eh, I have no idea what China is, but 00-300-SE is the last good Country member I have, I will load there." Essbase is picking the last valid member and loading to that. I liken it to a lock and send from Excel with nested dimensions and non-repeating members. Essbase "looks up" a row, finds the valid member, and loads there.

Search for "Unknown Member Fields" -- it's all the way at the bottom of the above link.
In fact, to save you the trip, per the DBAG:
If you are performing a data load and Essbase encounters an unknown member name, Essbase rejects the entire record. If there is a prior record with a member name for the missing member field, Essbase continues to the next record. If there is no prior record, the data load stops. Regards,

In my report script I want to use Essbase Substitution Variable, just as an replacement to Text field... I am using following syntax:

Where StartMonthNo is 1 ... I don't want to add this variable as some member in Essbase, just need to display Heading as

Your thinking is sound and creative, however due to the way they work you can't define a subvar as a concatenation of other subvars because it will be interpreted literally. e.g.
sv1 = hello
sv2 = world
sv3 = &sv1 + &sv2
sv3 interpreted by essbase will be: &sv1 + &sv2 and throw an error.
(If you think about it, concatenating two 255 char subvars into another would still exceed the character liimit.)
So,
if you want to concatenate several long subvars, just define them and mash them together:
&sv1 &sv2 = hello world

Financial Reports member addition

Gurus,
I have a financial report created based on an essbase cube which has five members NY, CA, DE, MN, and CO. Because these are the members I had these are the members that I see in the Financial reports page. However, now I have just added a member called NJ which is a sibling of these members mentioned above. Now, I want this member also to be included in Financial report. Does it automatically get transfer as these are all the children of a member called STATE? OR do i need to manually add it. What is the way of doing it. Any suggestion would help.

I added the member in essbase cube, and now I can see it in Financial reporting. I have tried to open the related reports in workspace as we create batches to run some of the reports, however, the numbers corresponding to the newly added member does not seem correct. They do not add and something like that What could be the reason. Do i need to wait a while or is there anything else I need to do in Essbase or Planning or Financial reporting studio? Some reports are from one database while others are from a different database. So any advise or help is appreciated.

Essbase Studio - SmartView - Drill Through Error

Hello!
I'm creating a drill through report using Essbase Studio 11.1.1.2. Built the Context, the Report Content and Associations. Perform an ad-hoc analysis via SmartView. Perform a Hyperion | Drill Through Reports and the follow error occurs:
Unable to list Essbase Studio Drill Through Reports : Error in the statement interpret. Line = 1109
Anyone know what causes this and how to resolve it?

The issue was due to using transformations to prefix characters to ids. The drill through couldn't resolve the cube member name to the data in the tables.
For example, if your source data for your accounts table has an member id of 1, 2, 3 etc. But you use a prefix of A in transformation to build the member in Essbase (A1, A2, A3, etc.), drill through can't resolve it. Drill through is going back to the table and searching for A1, A2 or A3. The table has 1, 2, or 3. A string is not a number, that's the error that basically occurs.
Solution - I updated my tables to have the prefixes (and data types) and removed the transformations. That way when drilling, the Essbase member matches up with the table id.
