Renaming RDP file in RemoteApp Programs

Hello,
I would like to rename the Remote Desktop connection in RDS Web Access > RemoteApp Programs site.  I would just like to change it to say something other than, "Remote Desktop".  I added the Remote Desktop icon through the RemoteApp Deployment
Settings by clicking "Show a remote desktop connection to this RD Session Host server in RD Web Access".
I have tried looking into the default.aspx to see if the RDP file name is defined there, but no luck.  Its strange, because when I am on the Web Access site and I view the HTML source of the site, I see where the RDP file is named, but when I open default.aspx
for editing I do not see the RDP file name there.  I am guessing the RDP file name is in a webpart, but I can't seem to locate that webpart on my server.
So does anyone know if it is possible to rename that icon and how I would go about doing it?
Please let me know if you need any more clarification.
Thanks!

Maybe I'm an idiot, but why in the world would Microsoft not provide some other way of naming a Remote desktop access connection in Web Access other than hacking the registry or as even more strangely suggested (if your not comfortable with touching the registry)
use WMI?  What planet does Microsoft live on? Do you really think users are more apt to use WMI (an unknowable interface) rather than a registry hack? Even more, if there is the ability to name RemoteApps anything you damn well please, why is there no
way to differentiate the multitude of possible Remote Desktop connections in the Web Access interface just as simply? Really, what planet does Microsoft live on? It seems every time someone at Microsoft opens their mouths, they make complete fools of themselves.
Please give someone, anyone, a reasonable explanation of how the ability to discreetly name Remote Desktop access connections in Remote Web Access was over looked so stupidly.

  • Since upgrade to Windows 8, cannot save .rdp files under the Remote Desktop Connection application on the Desktop

Since I upgraded to Windows 8, I am no longer able to save individual Remote Desktop Connection files as .rdp files. I am talking about the traditional Remote Desktop Connection application on the Desktop that was in previous Windows versions, not the
Remote Desktop App from the Windows 8 store.
When I try to click on the Save button I get "An error occurred while saving to file"
When I try to click on the Save As button I get "Unable to open connection file" with the file address being where I tried to save it with the file name at the end.
Also when I upgraded to Windows 8, my .rdp files disappeared from my Documents folder.
I need to create different .rdp files for different programs that my employees get into on my server. Now I have to hand type all the info each time into the Programs tap on the Remote Desktop Connection window, because I can't save to an
    .rdp file.
I like the Remote Desktop App from the Windows store but it won't let me designate specific programs to use using standard dos notation (ie c:\program files\ etc..). It just goes to my server desktop.
I want to promote Windows 8 to my employees but I need either .rdp files for the traditional Remote Desktop Connection or the ability to open specific programs using dos notation in the Windows Store Remote Desktop App.

You don't need to worry too much about what's in here. Save the text file as
filename.rdp then rightclick on the file and select edit. The familiar GUI rdp session editor will open. You can make changes in the GUI and
save or save as a different session.

  • RemoteApp rdp file connection restriction

    Hi all,
So I have a RemoteApp deployment that gives users certain applications from the RDWeb site based on security groups. I've connected a few people using the RemoteApp and Desktop Connections in Control Panel on their Win7 workstations. I've noticed that these
users can retrieve the rdp file from their C:\Users\<user profile>\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Workspaces\{XXX}\Resource\ and pass around the rdp file which would bypass the security groups configured in the RDWeb site if they were to connect to the
RDWeb site. Is there a way to restrict the user from the application based on a security group if they were to connect using a retrieved rdp file?
    Thanks
    Victor

    Hi Victor,
For your case, can’t find no such restriction policy. You need to apply RemoteApp User Assignment for the user and provide the access. If it’s like RDP file access then you can manually add the username and password under that RDP file so that only that user
can access the application. And if RDP file is to connect to server then you can restrict the user on server side to get access. After all it depends on your requirement.
You can check the below article for information.
    Introducing RemoteApp User Assignment

  • Not all RemoteApp Programs are showing in RD Web

Do you have any idea why some of the RemoteApp programs are not showing (missing 2 or 3 icons) on RD Web when you select RD Connection Broker as your source? But I'm able to view all of them when I select 'One or more RemoteApp sources' and put the RD
Session Host server in the RD Web configuration. I have more than 20 applications published in RD Session Host server.

Never mind. I figured it out. Those missing programs have long alias name. I trimmed down the alias by renaming the file and I'm now able to view them all. Not sure why it behaves that way with RD Connection Broker. Any idea what is the maximum allowable
    character for 'alias'?

  • Rename all files in a folder?

At the end of everyday on a recent month-long trip, I dumped photos from a card into a folder on my desktop, and cleared the card for the next day's use. Now that I'm back home, I have photos in several folders with the same name (i.e. in folder Monday, file DSC_001 and in Tuesday, file DSC_001).
How can I go in and rename/renumber the files so that if I ever drop them into a common folder, one won't overwrite another?
I have several thousand photos, so renaming each file one by one will take a lot of time.
    Thanks for your help!

You've got a built-in file re-namer (if you want to add something before or after the existing name) in a sample Applescript. You don't have to know how to do scripting to use it.
First, turn on the script menu:
    1. Double-click the AppleScript Utility program in /Applications/AppleScript to open it.
    2. Check both +Show Script Menu In Menu Bar+ and +Show Computer Scripts+.
The little black AppleScript icon appears near the right of your menu bar, listing all the built-in scripts.
    3. Close/Quit the utility.
Then, use the Add to File Name script on items in your folder:
    1. In the Finder, select the files you want renamed - probably a Select All inside one of the folders you mentioned.
    2. From the Script menu, choose Finder Scripts > Add to File Names.
    3. In the dialog, type what you want appended to the font name and click the Prefix or Suffix button.
To reverse this at any time, use the Script > Finder Scripts > Trim File Names command.

  • RDS 2008R2 : RemoteApp Program - Remote Desktop

    Hello,
I'm able to use all of my RemoteApp programs when I'm connected through the RDS site on my internal network.
When I connect externally, all published applications work fine that I installed on the server.  On the RD Session Host server tab on the Gateway I have 'Show a remote desktop connection to this RD Session Host server in RD Web Access' checked.
I also have it checked on the Web Access servers.  The Remote Desktop (Published Desktop) of the Web Access servers works fine internally, but I error out when accessing it remotely.
When I click the icon to launch (while connected remotely) I see the internal farm name and the external name of the gateway is not present.  I'll press connect and get an error: Remote Desktop can't find the computer "my farm name" This might
mean that "my farm name" does not belong to the specific network.  Verify the computer name and domain that you are registering to connect to.
How do I get this remote app to use my SSL connection and RD Gateway and not try to resolve the name locally on my externally connected machine?
I found this post, it solved the problem of using the Remote Access tab on my RDweb site, but I'm trying to fix the RemoteApp.

    Hi,
Thank you for posting in Windows Server Forum.
What version of OS & RDP client you are using for your environment?
Please recheck that you have configured RD RAP & RD CAP policy. Also as you are facing some SSL certificate issue, I can say that SSL certificate must be signed by trusted certificate authority. Please check below articles for more information.
    1.  RDWeb: can access internally but cannot access externally
    2.  RDS: RD Gateway must be configured to use an SSL certificate signed by a trusted certification authority
In addition, I will suggest you to update RDP client to RDP 8.1.
Update for RemoteApp and Desktop Connections feature is available for Windows
    Hope it helps!

  • How to rename a file or folder.

HI, I was thinking of some thing, but I need to know how to make java rename a file/folder like you do via dos.
    Hope this is clear.
PS I had another post and I got the answer thanks for those who help, I lost the thing so couldn't reply(DUH').
So say I have "myfile.txt", and wanna rename to "yourfile.txt".
Just point my in the right direction if it's long.

    import java.io.*;
    public class Rename
public static void main (String args [])
         { // main program
// File (or directory) with old name
    file f1 = new File("newone.txt");
// File (or directory) with new name
    File f2 = new File("newfile.txt");
    // Rename file (or directory)
    boolean success = f1.renameTo(f2);
    if (!success)
// File was not successfully renamed
    System.out.println("\nFile was renamed!\n\n");
This is what I have done, the import removed 3 of the 4 errors, but its still not working, this is the message.
C:\Documents and Settings\jonathan\Desktop\New Folder (2)\Rename.java:7: cannot resolve symbol
    symbol: class file
    location class rename
    file f1 = new file("newone.txt")

  • Moving and renaming image files

I want to move & rename image files to folders on the hard drive by dragging and dropping them into my application. I read about the problem with renameTo() method with windows. Is this possible to do in java? I heard about a method in which you read, write and delete the old file? How do I go about making this happen?

Well, what happens if you create the folder C:/Test/testfile1.txt ?
Or alternatively remove the part that says "testfile1.txt" from the directory path in your program.
Or alternatively call dir.mkdirs() before trying to rename.
What I am getting at is that when you create a file with the constructornew File(dir,newdest.getName())the parameter dir is treated as a directory no matter what its name is. If its name is "C:/Test/testfile1.txt," the name of the new file will be "C:/Test/testfile1.txt/name_of_newdest"where name_of_newdest is the name of the "newdest" file. This might not be what you wanted

  • Renaming a file

Please, make it possible to rename the file from within LR - in different modules, including Library and Develop.
This can be done by adding an option "rename photo" into the right-click menu, - just next to "delete photo".

This request is just one example that points out the confusing interface and feature set of Lightroom metadata editing.
This entire set of tools in the interface needs to revamped. Lightroom metadata editing is badly broken.
For instance, metadata editing simply is not built for ease-of-use or a smooth, efficient, production-oriented workflow. Pop-up lists of keywords already created should appear in the Keyword selection list when importing files. Previously created folder and file names should be visible when naming new folders and files, to help users achieve consistent naming patterns. The Lightroom team left all this to guesswork. The truth is, some good metadata editing features are included with version 1x of this software, but they've just been checklisted into the program rather than designed with a thoughtful, intuitive workflow that improves and streamlines the editing process.
And the last time I checked, renaming files in v1.x didn't always work properly (though I have not tested this lately). i.e.: with version 1x, if a folder of image files were simply dragged from a CF card onto your hard disk instead of being imported, file renaming didn't work at all (the Lightroom database reported that the files had been renamed, but the file names on disk didn't change.
When version 1x of the software was first released, I created and submitted a whole laundry list of metadata editing issues. I feel that correcting these should have been a priority and that they should have been fixed by now. The initial version of Lightroom metadata editing gets in the way of getting real work done. This week, I'm finally updating Alsoft DiskWarrior, and then will download and install Lightroom v1.4.1. I hope I'll see some improvements in metadata editing, but I fear Adobe will leave these critical improvements for a future release.

  • Renaming a file / folder

    hi all,
how to rename a file/folder automatically when executing java program application.. and also that renamed file should not be editable like delete, open, copy, rename manually in the specified location where the folder is.
i have used renameTo method but the folder is still editable.
    plz suggest this,

You need to set the permissions on the file.
In pure java you can set the read and write permissions using File but for OS specific permission you need to run the approriate command line program to set your permissions.

  • How to delete & rename Quicktime files in Windows?

    Hi all,
I am having a problem to remove(delete) and rename quicktime files in Windows XP pro because it says "*Cannot delete .... It is being used by another person or program. Close any programs that might be using the file and try again.*". I saw the same post with this issue in Page 3 in this forum, but we don't get the answer yet. Please give us the answer for it with this quicktime issue in Windows.
Followings are some answers that I found in other websites, but none of them solves this problem.
You can't delete those Quicktime movies because they are being used/opened by Quicktime. Run your Quicktime and clear any playlists that you saved and then open a video (that is not in one of the videos you wanted to delete). Then exist the program. Now go delete the videos you wanted to delete earlier and see if you can delete them this time.
If you have quicktime running in the background, it will own it so you can't delete it.Rebooting may not help because quicktime usually starts with Windows. Go to C: Windows/system32 and scroll down to msconfig.exe. You can open it or right click, hold, drag it to you desktop, release right click, and create a shortcut to it. Open the shortcut (double click), go to the startup tab, and uncheck all instances of quicktime. Reboot and try to do what you want with the .mov file.
Thank you very much in advance.

I've been having the same issue here. I've searched high and low for a real solution and haven't found a thing. Any help would be much appreciated!

  • Help renaming pdf files based on internal content

I work for a company that has thousands of E-tickets coming in daily, weekly, monthly, etc..
These tickets come in bafhakfbaifh.pdf and we have to manually rename them or print them all out and then sort through them and put them in order.
What I would like to do is:
    1. Split any pdf's that have more than one page or "ticket" in my case. I know how to do this with automator easily, but I'd love to keep it all in one program.
    2. Search the file for Event Name (i.e. Madonna)
    3. Search the file for Date of event (August 12, 2012)
    4. Search the file for Section, Row, Seat (124 3 12)
    5. Rename the file based on content found (Madonna August 12 2012 124 3 12.pdf)
    6. Move from original download folder to organized folders based on artist/team.
    7. Automatically print in alphabetical or some sort of designated order.
Any help is muchly appreciated. So far, I found a PC program called A-PDF rename, but it is not automated enough to be practical. Hazel is awesome at OCRing the pdf and moving from folder to folder, but does not do enough.
    Any help is muchly appreciated.
    Thank you.

You're looking for a PDF Parser or PDF miner tool (PDFminer) as a starting framework, and you'll almost certainly be writing custom code around that as parsing a text file that's effectively free-form and originating from multiple different sources almost always (always?) involves writing customized processing code and an on-going series of tweaks as the suppliers of the PDF change their ticket formats.  (Even apparently-simple details such as the time and date formats, for instance, can vary by geography and language and by supplier, and can derail common processing.)
In some cases that I can envision, it'd be entirely possible that the data you're after is actually located in an embedded image and not in text that can be parsed.
The best approach is to get folks to send you JSON or XML or some other format intended for interchange, and avoid the whole mess that is parsing or mining a printer-oriented format.
The other obvious option is to use something like Amazon's Mechanical Turk or some other explicitly outsourced help.  Depending on how often the formats change and how many of these PDF files you're dealing with and how varied the formats are, sometimes throwing staff at the problem can be the most cost-effective approach.

  • File sync error after renaming jpg file on desktop

I changed the file name of a photo in my desktop backup of my Treo 755p photos from the default format of Photo_[date]_xyz.jpg to Matisse by fire2_101208.jpg.
    The path is:

Now I get the following error after hotsync.
Unable to sync media file 'Matisse by fire2_101208.jpg' on desktop. Error code: 32.
    OK Media with 1 message(s)
I also changed two others to
    Matisse by fire1_101208.jpg and
    Matisse by fire3_101208.jpg
but am not getting errors on those.
I can open the file specified so I don't think it is corrupted.
    I'm using Hotsync 6.0.1.
I could not find error 32 anywhere. Is ther a list of all the Hotsync errors somewhere?
    Any ideas?

as far as i understood the explanation, you renamed the picture manually by going into the path that you stated in your post right?
when your rename the file, have you check if it did show the file extensions?
try to reveal the file extensions by going back to the location (folder). click on tools>folder options>view>uncheck hide extensions for known file types.
then click ok. try to see on what's the difference in the 3 files you mentioned. i suspect that the erring file has 2 jpeg extensions on it.

  • Where are the actual files/renaming those files?

Hi all, I'm a new Mac user at home, and I'm exploring how iPhoto works. Since 1999, I've kept my digital photos straight using a manual method of folders labeled "Year" and inside that "01, 02, etc" and inside that "01 PhotoName" for something that happened on the 1st day of the month (following me?) With iPhoto, I gather this is much easier to manage because iPhoto seems to do all of this for me.
I'm trying to understand how iPhoto is working. It seems that when I import a photo from my camera, it goes to a folder in "iphoto library"/originals/2007/album name/photoname (in my case, the file name is DSC02447). However, if I make any changes to that file within iPhoto (red eye, color, etc) it will create ANOTHER file in "iphoto library"/MODIFIED/2007/albumname/photoname. So, does that mean it's essentially duplicating my images?
Also related, how can I rename the actual FILE? When I'm within iPhoto's Photo view, I can rename the title of the image by clicking the name below it, and renaming it to something other than DSC02447. However, in the "photo info" window, you can see the actual filename has NOT changed.
If I would use iPhoto forever, that wouldn't be a big problem. However, I don't know what photo organizing program I'll be using in 10 years, but if it's not iPhoto, I don't want to be stuck with a whole lot of photos that I spent a bunch of time organizing and renaming within iPhoto, only to realize those changes were only within iPhoto.
So along with those two questions, does anyone have a website that explains the "inner workings" of iPhoto better than the Apple site? All I can find on here is "here's all the great things iPhoto does" but I can't really find deep tutorials on "this is actually what's happening to your files."
    Many, many thanks everyone.

    Carl

Duplicating? No, but it is preserving your original file - as a kind of digital negative. Essentially, all operations are carried out on a copy of the file, at any time you can go Photos -> revert to original. In this iPhoto is implementing the best practise of Digital Asset Management.
If you don't wan that feature, then bluntly, don't use iPhoto. It's hard wired into the application and cannot be turned off. There are various hacks that claim to remove unwanted versions but each of them put the integrity of your library at risk.
It is strongly advised that you do not move, change or in anyway alter things in the iPhoto Library Folder as this can cause the application to fail and even lead to data loss
Also related, how can I rename the actual FILE? When I'm within iPhoto's Photo view, I can rename the title of the image by clicking the name below it, and renaming it to something other than DSC02447. However, in the "photo info" window, you can see the actual filename has NOT changed.
You can't. You can copy the files to the desktop and rename them before import (FileList is pretty good for this) or, if you export them using the File -> Export command you have the opportunity to use your Title as a filename on the exported version. (That's your future proofing, right there - you can also write you keywords to the file too.) But if you rename the files while they are in iPhoto, then you change the path to the files and that brings you to my warning above, about making changes in the iPhoto Library Folder.

  • MS TS RemoteApp Programs Command-line Parameters (%temp% or %appdata%)

    Hello,
We are trying to get an in house Application published to the TS RemoteApp Programs. We are using a logon script that places the a cmd file in the users %temp% or %adddata%.  We are using this so that there is no file locks that occur.
Then we wish to use the command-line parameter "Always use the following command-line parameters" as Local -t -c "%temp%\file.fp". However this is not successful. I have eliminated the %temp% with the temp directory path and the application
    runs correctly.
It looks like to me that the environmental variable is not loading. Is there something that I can do for this to get this running?
