Repeater component data binding

I have a repeater that repeats a custom component:
<mx1:Repeater id="addressParts"
                              dataProvider="{personPresentationModel.currentPerson.addresses}">
                    <components:Address left="144"
                                        top="1"
                                        enabled="{personPresentationModel.editMode}"/>
</mx1:Repeater>
visually it works fine however I'm trying to find out how to bind particular data of the dataprovider inside the repeated component. In other words, inside the repeated component, how could I do something along the lines of
    <s:TextInput text = "{myHostRepeater.dp.getItemAt(repeaterIndex)}"/>
if that makes sense.
thanks

As so often happens when I post a question, I figured it out immediately after submitting. I'd spent an hour on it and it's amazing how pressing
the submit button so often unblocks my mind.
Hey, maybe if we asked all world leaders to click submit buttons, do you think..... oh, never mind.

  • Custom component data binding

    Hey people,
    I'm trying to write a custom component which extends from JPanel (has a List<?>). It will basically display some sub-panels on itself by considering the underlying data (database table rows). I want to have the same functionality with JTable binding. I'm having difficulty listening changes occur on the list. How can I listen to changes inside the list in my JPanel component? Should I write a custom model? or Should I use a ObservableList? any suggestions are welcome..

    Actually, it's not a JList. My component is a custom JPanel which has an underlying collection to hold data. I'm binding this underlying collection to an ObservableList which is filled with the result set fetched from the database. It's a standart ArrayList<?> and I want to listen to the changed that made to this list.
    MyPanel extends JPanel {
        private List<Person> list = new ArrayList<Person>();
    }I'd like to see any changes made to the list inside MyPanel class.

  • Using a repeater in a custom FileInfo Panel --data binding error

    When I developed a custom FileInfo panel in Flex Builder 3, I could use an array to populate a checkBox control inside a repeater, and it worked.
    Now, using Flash Builder 4, data binding with <mx:Repeater> doesn't seem to work, resulting in an empty fileInfo panel.
    When I remove the dataProvider from the <mx:Repeater> tag, my panel displays, but without the repeater. How can I specify the dataProvider in a different way that works?

    Okay, I may have been making a rookie mistake. I see online reports that you can't bind an array to a repeater (even though it has worked for me).
    I've added the following variable to make my array an array collection:
    [Bindable] public var newArray2:ArrayCollection = new ArrayCollection(newArray);
    After changing the binding of the repeater to the new array and running the build, the fileInfo panel still does not function.
    Any thoughts?

  • How to apply pagination to data bind to asp:Repeater control using Camel Query.

    Hi All,
    I am having a <asp:Repeater> control to which i bind the data from share point list.
    I want to apply pagination to that data which is bind to Repeater. I am using CAMEL query to get data from list.
    How can i apply the pagination to this data fetch by camel which is bined to Repeater control.
    Thanks
    amol

    Hi,
    From your description, you might want to use CAML to query the needed items from a SharePoint list, then use a Repeater control to bind to these data with paging allowed.
    If so, here is a solution like this: Use
    CAML to query a collection of items and save them into a
    DataTable object. Then use the PagedDataSource object to achieve the paging for us and associate it to a
    Repeater control.
    Here are two links will provide more details:

    Hi,
    Please explain about the context mapping and data dinding
    and also differences
    Thank's & Regard's.
    Sri

    Hi Sridevi Sudunaguntla ,
    context mapping-> means mapping between different contexts
    ie suppose if we are creating a node in the component controllet and if we want to use that node in view a and view b, then  we have to map this node from component controller to the required view.. this mapping of context nodes is called context mapping..for context mapping, create nodes in compcontroller.. tehn go to view-> context-> tehn drag and drop required node from component controller to the view ..
    data binding-> means binding the data from nopde to the ui elements or viceversa... after the nodes are created in indudual views or after context mapping.. we have to bind these nodes to the ui elements... suppose we have an input field and we want to read that,, so we have to bind the input field to an attribute in the node.. this binding is called.. data binding.

  • ADF UIX programatic data binding

    Oracle ADF UIX Developer's Guide mentions the possibility to use the UIX framework in Java, to create new objects or alter the existing ones.
    E.g. we can create a table using a construct like:
    TableLayoutBean tlb = new TableLayoutBean();
    The same document demonstrates the data binding:
    BoundValue rows = new DataBoundValue(_YOUR_NAMESPACE, YOURNAME, "rows");
    tlb.setIndexedNodeList(new DataObjectListNodeList(rows));
    For "simple" attributes using DataObject DataObjectList, etc. the procedure is clear. But what about creating a data bound table or input text:
    <table model="${bindings.EmpView1}" ... >
    <messageTextInput model="${bindings.DeptCode}"/>
    It’s easy to understand that model="${bindings.EmpView1}" or model="${bindings.DeptCode}" are equivalent to multiple attribute bindings (data, validation, read-only, etc.), but it looks that the classes/methods resolving these equivalences and linking the bean to the corresponding DCControlBinding, are not public (or maybe I was not able to find them).
    How can we obtain programmatically, in Java, the same structure as described above (in XML)? The best would be to use the same classes used when the UIX XML document is parsed to create the page description.
    It would be very nice to be able to use a structure like
    tbl.setModel( new JUCtrlRangeBinding(...) );
    txt.setModel( new JUCtrlValueBinding(...) );
    or maybe
    txt.setAttribute( "model", new TextInputModelBoundValue(...) ) etc.
    In JSF we can do something like:
    ValueBinding vb = application.createValueBinding(value);
    component.setValueBinding(attributeName, vb);
    Can we do something similar in UIX?
    Any help will be appreciated,
    thanks,
    Mircea Ionita

    Since the code is already written, it's a pity that we can't use/extend it. I don't like to say it (sorry) but I find this design choice (implement the "model" only into the XML parsing layer) a little bit strange (or maybe I don't understand... ;-) ). We should (or we are supposed to) be able to do in java everything that we can do in XML.
    I would like to find more support/help for the programmatic approach. I have the feeling that you are too focalised on "use-our-state-of-the-art-tools/wizards-to-write-the-code-for-you" and you forgot that this is not suitable for all projects. E.g. our application creates the user interface according to a layout defined by each user. To generate it, we need to use at maximum the extension mechanism and we can't simply relay on "rendered" attribute etc.
    -When should we expect this new UIX release?
    -What about the UIX controller? The Struts controller will replace it?
    -What about the source code of uixexp2-demo.jar (distributed with ADF_UIX_component_guide)?
    -Why while debugging we can't set a method/class breakpoint on UIX classes (to understand the data flow) - the stack is secret?
    Thanks

  • Best Practice: Data Binding

    Each non-trivial Swing application needs to bind GUI elements (windows and components) to data. Ten years back in my MFC times, the typical solution was to initialize the GUI with fixed data, show the window, and read back the modified data after window closure. But in Swing, there is more flexibility (data can be dynamic for example). But what is the best way to deal with data binding?
    - Writing custom models, bound directly to data objects?
    - Initializing once and read back after window closure?
    - Using the non-standard (but rather interesting) beans binding API?
    Certainly there are more solutions, but my intention is not to write a list of possibilities or to get your opinion on one of these solutions. Actually I'd like to know from the experienced Swing pros in this forum, whether there is a best practice for data binding?

    Hi,
    I'd say it depends on what kind of data are you binding and if they're refreshed or not. In our "framework" we're using Properties-based approach for dialogs - server packs an @Entity into class similar to Properties - basically it's s Map<String, Object>, sends this Properties to client and values are put into our customised components. We're using component name as a key, most of controls are simple extends of standard JComponents with handful of methods from common interface (like load(), save(), ...). This approach seems to work fine.
    For refreshed "lists" we're using again our custom "framework" based on sending initial batch and consequent diffs - there is sort of event queue responsible for telling everyone what had been changed. Because this kind of data tends to be quite huge, we're sending gzipped binary representation of source data.
    With beans there might be a way how to implement both simply by calling getters, but then every single value results in one roundtrip, which was absolutely unacceptable for us. But I can imaging this working fine on LAN.

  • Data Binding for Idiots (me)

    Hey everyone,
    I've been asked to build a form that is way more complex than anything I've done in the past. I just wanted to ask the experts here a few questions before I get started, to make sure that I don't make any huge mistakes.
    The complexity of the form lies in the huge number of nested repeatable subforms, the fact that it's three forms in one (which form being shown depends on a selection from a drop down list), and the fact that the form needs to be designed to export its data cleanly to xml.
    As far as building the form goes, I'm comfortable with everything except for the exporting to XML. I've done this a few times, but I'm not sure that the assumptions I've made are correct. I've tried reading the help files, but I'm not sure I'm getting it.
    Pretty much, I make use of a ton of subforms in order to make sure that the layout of the form works dynamically. I don't want all of these subforms to show up in the xml import. The way I've been doing it is to set the data binding on these subforms to 'No data binding.' Does this have any impact on how data is saved to the form? If I don't want the value of a field to be exported, can I set it's binding to 'no data binding', or will that cause prevent the values from being saved?
    My final question is about the 'Use name' binding. Up until now, in past forms I've made sure that all fields have different names. This form is so large, and has so many similar elements that it would be useful to be able to resue field names in different areas of the form. For example, two of the versions of the forms has a section for associated addresses. The fields in these sections are the same. Can I name them the same thing, so long as they are within different subforms? Or will this cause a conflict when exporting/saving.
    Sorry for the long post. In short:
    1) What afftect does the data binding 'no data binding' have on subforms and fields, with regards to saved data and exported data? Are there any 'gotchas!' that I should be aware of?
    2) What are the guidelines I should follow to ensure that I don't come across any naming conflicts? Do I just need to ensure sibling feilds aren't named the same, or should all names be distinct?
    I would appreciate any help that you guys might be able to offer.
    - Scott

    Scott,
    1) No date binding means a form object is not included in exported XML. Data binding has no effect upon saving data when saving a form, the form will contain the data.
    2) For me, rule #1 is use a schema and schema binding. It is worth the upfront investment in time. What you see in the schema is what you see in the output data, given a form object is bound to the schema. You can bind a single schema element to multiple form objects if you need to re-use data across sub-forms, also. Rule #2, again for me, is to explicitly define sub-form names to simplify schema binding and avoid name collisions.
    I've attached a very simple form (with the schema embedded), the schema and exported xml to demonstrate.

  • Data Binding using DataSet and ComboBox

    Hi guys, hope someone can help me with this. Seems it should
    be simple, but it's not, that's why I'm here. I have data loading
    into a DataSet component. I have a ComboBox on the stage with
    predefined values and lables, so it's not dynamic at all. After
    loads into the DataSet I have the value Bound to the the Combobox,
    but nothing is being selected. I know the ComboBox is a little bit
    trickier, unlike the Textfield or TextInput wich work right away.
    Again, hope someone can help.

  • How to disable design time data binding?

    I am using Studio Creator IDE for the presentation layer and bringing the project into eclipse and from there moving on to creating daos,adding business objects etc.
    However, when re-importing my files from eclipse to the Studio Creator to make layout changes, on the design view, i keep getting all these SQL exceptions.
    Here's my current fix:
    For eg, if on a page i had a Data Table component, i comment out my dao methods that populate the cachedrowset for the table data provider and i add for eg:
    personRowSet.setDataSourceName("java:comp/env/jdbc/Travel");
    personRowSet.setCommand("SELECT * FROM TRAVEL.PERSON");
    personRowSet.setTableName("PERSON");
    and only then, i am able to see my table component in the design view.
    Is there an option somewhere to tell the IDE not to check data bindings at design time???
    That would be very very helpful.
    Thanks!

    Hi,
    There is no option, ASAIK, to turn off the data bindings at design time. As you have mentioned the option that comes to my mind is to comment out the code for data binding till the design work is over.
    Cheers

  • Where is detailed description of what data binding language can do?

    Where in the documentation does it clearly spell out exactly what you can do with

    just before this is putting the result of "getXMLStr()" into the "xml" variable.

    This usage of the data binding language is a little unusual, but I would assume
    it's documented somewhere, right?

    I had already read that description. It has just about one sentence that covers
    the ability to reference elements of an XML string, but without giving any usable
    details. I was already convinced that this and direct variable references were
    worth avoiding, I just wanted to understand the extent of the available features
    first. I guess the lack of any documentation on referencing elements in XML strings
    will make it easier to deprecate :) .

    A general data binding description is here:
    http://edocs.bea.com/workshop/docs81/doc/en/workshop/guide/netui/guide/conDatabindingXScript.html
    This help topic describes the NetUI data binding contexts and how
    properties / objects are
    accessed using them. As far as property binding, a question that came
    up in the group earlier,
    public properties always win over JavaBean properties, so if you expose
    data on any Java object
    (page flow, global app, form bean, repeated data item) like this:
    ::::: Controller.jpf
    public String foo = "foo";
    private String anotherFoo = "another foo";
    public String getFoo()
    return anotherFoo;
    and bind to this in a JSP:
    <netui:label value="{pageFlow.foo}"/>
    the value "foo" will display in your page because it is a public property.
    The specific example that you mention below is a sample of using the
    XScript capabilities in the
    8.1 NetUI data binding language to bind directly to parts of an XML document
    without having turned
    the document itself into a JavaBean.
    Frankly, I'd encourage you to use a JavaBean centric approach as we
    will likely deprecate this
    feature in the future in favor of a more XMLBean / JavaBean centric binding
    model. The JavaBean
    property binding model is also much more in-line with the JSP 2.0 expression
    language.
    In the same vein, I'd also suggest following the best practice of
    exposing JavaBean properties on
    your objects instead of using direct binding to fields.
    If you have additional specific questions, feel free to post them
    here and we can address them as
    they come up.
    Hope that helps...

    Where in the documentation does it clearly spell out exactly what youcan do with

    what is happening in the SamplesApp, in the "repeaterTag" module,in XMLString.jsp

    In particular, in XMLString.jsp, it references an expression like this:

    I can't figure out how this is working. I can see that the "callPageFlow"tag
    just before this is putting the result of "getXMLStr()" into the "xml"variable.
