Replace colors on multiply layer with predefined color

Hello,
This is my first time here and I've tried to find an answer to my question but haven't been able to. Maybe someone can help me whith this.
My process:
I scann my artwork (linedrawing)
I color my artwork with multiply mode on different layers (as i'm sure many do)
Now what I haven't been able to figure out is how to replace the color on this multiply layer with a predefined color from my colorswatch.
I've found tutorials on how you can change colour  around by using hue/saturation and stuff like that but I have a predefined colorpalette. So I just want to replace a certain color blue I always work with, for a specific color green from my palette.
I've used the replace brush tool but the colors that appear are a blend of the first color and the second color I use.
So my solution so far has been to set up a new layer and color again. I'm hoping there is an easier way.
Thanks in advance for your suggestions!
Kind regards,
Lineke from Amsterdam

You could have a Color Fill layer for each color selected from your Swatches, with the blending mode set to Multiply, and the layer mask filled with black. Then, paint on the mask with white to do your coloring.

  • Create Layer with BG Color

    function layer() {
    Application.activeDocument
    Application.backgroundColor (blue = 34, green = 12, red = 1)
    layer()
    I want to create a NewLayer, with a specific background color, the code above is not working.

    You really need to read the scripting guide.
    Application is a Photoshop Class. To reference that class you use app. So the first line in the function should be app.activeDocument. Even then that line does not do anything except return a document object. If you do not store the returned object in a variable you might as well delete that line.
    app.backgroundColor is an app property, not a method. So the () are not used. That property either returns a SolidColor object that is the current background color or you can assign it a new color something like this
    var myColor = new SolidColor();
    myColor.rgb.red = 1;
    myColor.rgb.green = 12;
    myColor.rgb.blue - 34;
    app.backgroundColor = myColor;
    But that does not create a new layer and I am not sure what kind of layer you want. Do you want to create a new artLayer then fill it with your color or do you want to create a new SolidFill adjustment layer using that color.
    To create a new artLayer you do something like
    app.activeDocument.artLayers.add();
    To create a new adjustment layer you would need to use Action Manager( scriptlistener ).

  • Best way to replace contents of a layer with higher res image

    I can do it, but I was wondering if there is a better way.
    Large PS file (CS6 and CC) half a dozen texture layers using low res images. Several have blend modes, transparency and even masks. I now have the same images in high res. I want to replace just the image, but not lose my blend/transparency, or masks.
    Any thoughts?
    Do I bring in the high res layer, copy the mask over etc? Then delete the original?
    Max

    Try this.
    Convert the low res images to Smart Objects. Layer > Smart Objects > Convert to Smart Object.
    The replace the contenst of the smart objects. Layer > Smart Objects > Replace Contents...
    This way you can replace the low res images with the hi res versions. Provided they are the same crop and aspect rarion your mask should be fairly good to go. I say fairly good as you may have made some adjustments (eg. feathering) based on the resolution.
    The blend modes and transparency will be unaffected.

  • Need to color the  different textfield with different color in J2ME

    hi
    i am developing an application where i need to color the different textfield in the form with different color. but i am not able to do this even with the canvas class also. Can you please help me ? Thanks in advance..

    In J2ME, I don't think you can do that easily by setting color. If you want to use specific color in a text field, you need to construct the text box your own. Use Graphics object to draw text field (as image) and here specify a color of your choice.
    Hope this helps.

  • Color conversion : special behavior with Spot Color "All"

    Hello,
    I have a document with printmarks which have a spot color "All". While I convert the page using the "Color conversion" to Gray 1.8 with Adobe Acrobat X the spot color "All" are still present (with the alternate color space DeviceGray).
    Using Adobe Acrobat 9.x all objects have a DeviceGray color.
    Is it a bug or a new behavior? Moreover the SDK method doesn't convert the spot color but keep the name (but I know this is not the right place to post it - it's just for information).
    Regards,
    Joe

    I sense you may not understand the difference between sopt and process colors in the printing process.
    When you use process inks you build all color representations by combining dots of varying sizes from each of the four process colors, cyan, magenta, yellow, and black. Because the dots are two small to be seen individually your brain is fooled into thinking it sees other colors. Process color printing requires four printing plates to produce the full range of colors possible, but that range is limited compared to what you can see in real life or capture in RGB.
    Spot colors, in contrast, are similar to paint. Each color is mixed individually, and every spot color requires its own plate on the printing press (and you must use a press -- toner and inkjet printers use cmyk inksets and cannot print real spot colors). Because of the expense of these plates, the use of spot colors is usually limited to one or two colors in any print job, and if the job has other color (like photographs) that requires process inks, converting the spot colors to the closest process simulation is often employed if the spot colors can be simulated "close enough" to satisfy the client and the budget is tight.
    I would avoid using process colors for type in small sizes or for very thin strokes, especially in lighter colors, as you are likely to see ragged edges.
    So, how many spot color swatches did you use? More than two? More than four? Do you have a huge budget to produce the work? This may be a project that really should be designed from the ground up as process, or process and one spot for that hard to print bright accent color.

  • Uniform Color across 50+ images with Kodak color bar

    Hi,
    I shoot 50+ paintings using a Kodak color bar at the bottom of each image, thing is during the shoot the light change from start to finish as the sun moved around, (dumb I know), so is there anyway to get the images to be uniform color across the whole collection. I want to acheive where the color bar is exactly the same in each image?
    I shot everything in RAW...
    Thanks
    SEan

    You're going to have to do an individual gray balance on a white or gray patch on every image, as it will not be the same correction for each image. As the light changes it changes color, which is going to be the biggest factor. The changing angles of light reflecting off the paintings can also affect the color rendition. In the end, it really depends on how accurately you need to reproduce the color in the paintings. The more accurate you need to be, the more you will need to make individual corrections in Ps for each image.
    When I do this, I correct to the actual painting viewed under a Solux lamp 90 degrees away from my monitor. The best and most accurate color I've seen to date is processing the raw files in CaptureOne and gray balancing to a portion of the white seamless paper in the background. Even complicated paint pigments came right into line with a single click. The input profiles in C1 are truly amazing now.
    You may run into problems also with the Kodak color bars themselves. Far too often when you get them looking right, your painting is way off. The pigments used in the color bars react differently to light than the pigments in the painting, and the grayscale steps are never right. They always seem to clip both ends long before you start clipping any detail in your painting.

  • Pdf's created in Indesign having problem in "Black" color when it overlap with other color.

    Hi all,I
    Please respond to this as soon as possible since this is now in printing stage we need to send it immediately.
    Adobe disabled attachment, I just made a screenshot and sending you the image as attachment for your reference.
    The design has "Black" overlapping on "Blue" giving transparent on Blue color, see the pdf for reference.
    Please not that there is no transparency in "Black" or any other color used in that page.
    This is related to "preserve overprint" problem, when I switch off the preserve overprint in "distiller" setting I am getting the correct result but "Black" become "Knockout" instead of "overprint".
    Is there is any way to solve this problem.
    Please advice.
    Kaviya

    When you Knockout the colour it should cut a hole in the shapes below it -
    Start by creating a New Black Swatch
    Then Apply that swatch to your black frame
    Below I have turned off the Black Separation, and you can see that it has knocked a hole right through the items below - I've also shown you the Attributes Panel - you can see in the Spearations panel to that the black is still 100%
    Below is what happens when you have Black set to Overprint
    YOu can clearly see that the values are added up - You now have a 284% ink coverage here - so anywhere the black goes over the green here the values are added together and that gives you a different shade of black, because the Black is PRINTING OVER the other colours and adding, as ink is transparent, not opaque.
    If the black frame goes off into the white it will be 100% for whatever is touching the white, and then 284% when hitting the green here, so you get two distinct shades of black.

  • Photoshop in Adobe RGB 16 bit don't fill a layer with paint bucket and a color 35.40.35.100.

    I create a new file in RGB profile Adobe RGB 16bit
    take the paint bucket and fill the layer with a color created by selector with the following parameters 35.40.35.100 CMYK and RGB corresponds to 24.20.18 the result is a full level of color 76.73.63.9 but in RGB corresponds to 24.20.18 because the values in cmyk not match ??

    Could you please post screenshots (with the pertinent Panels visible) to illustrate the issue?
    Are you not aware that you cannot reliably define a CMYK color in RGB because the transformation is performed through the Profile Connection Space (Lab) and depends on the involved Color Spaces/ICC profiles (edited) and the Color Settings?

  • How to replace a specific color with transparent color?

    I would need to get image of a control but I'd like to replace the background color of the control with transparent color (like the commentest image editor).
    I cannot use IMAQ library, so I would like to use 2D-picture palette.
    I can read the image data pixel per pixer, but.. once the color to be replaced is found, how to replace it with transparent?
    Thanks all

    It sounds like you want the "Create Mask.vi". If not, you might want to provide some code that shows what kind of situation you're dealing with.

  • Color Balance Adj Layer Characteristics Changed from CS4- CS5?

    Maybe some guru with better connections to Adobe knows the answer to this. (or maybe I just forgot).
    I just discovered (and I don't think it is pilot error) that the characteristic behavior of the Color Balance Adjustment Layer is different in CS5 than it was in CS4/CS3.  (Much stronger in CS4/CS3).
    In addition, there is also an associated behavior that is like a buried legacy mode that is not made visible to the user.  Here is what I mean.
    If I create an image in CS4  with a single Color Balance Adj Layer, I get an adjusted image.
    If I open that same PSD file in CS5, the same image is displayed.
    If I use the same base image, yet create the Color Balance Adj Layer from within CS5, the adjusted image is different than the prior two.   So the Color Adjustment Layer acts like it has a hidden legacy mode where the characteristics are one type if created in CS4/CS3 yet a different characteristic if created in CS5.
    My mind might be slipping (or my cold has the better of me) because I do not remember this as a documented change and I searched the internet for "What's new in CS5" etc etc.  I don't remember anything on other forums about this either.
    I guess the good news is, the new characteristic of the Color Balance Adjustment Layer is better behaved with a transfer curve with less clipping for highlights and shadows.  Very similar to the better behavior of the change of the Brightness/Contrast Adjustment Layer going from CS2 to CS3.
    Here are some comparison images.
    This is the Layer Stack Used with Base Image of simple B to W gradient with CB Layer on top with just the highlights pegged to red.  This is the exact same Layer Stack for all of the images shown:
    Here is the first image.  This was created in PS CS4 and displayed from CS4 with the conditions show above:
    This is the same image from above that was saved as PSD with profile and them imported to PS CS5 with same profile.  There was no change:
    This next image is using the same base gradient, yet then creating the CB Layer from within PS CS5 with the same parameters, only the Red pegged for the Highlights:
    Does someone have an easy answer for this.  Can someone duplicate this and confirm the change from CS4 to CS5.  A test by someone else would either confirm I am off base with pilot error or there is something to this.
    And yes, all the images were sRGB and kept in sRGB for creation/display.  All Screenshot images were the images brought up side by side on the same color managed monitor.   All Edit > Color Settings were identical.
    Thanks in advance for any help
    John

    OK, Chris, but before I perform my act of self flaggelation for the benefit for all and my extra embarrassment, let me add in some useful information about the Color Balance Adj Layer that could be helpful.
    I was working with another individual who wanted a better understanding the color balance adj layer, what is was exactly doing, how the shadows, midtones, and highlights interacted, and the differences with preserve luminosity checked or not, and also why the preserve luminosity was so hard to predict (e.g. did not really preserve luminoisty).
    Without going into the deails of all of that, the tidbit I will leave as far as penance for my stupid original post above is that the Color Balance Adj Layer with the Preserve Luminosity box checked does a reasonable job or preserving luminoisty for the midtone adjustments yet definitely does not for the shadow and highlight adjustments.
    An easy workaround for this is to just set the Color Balance Adj Layer Blend to Color which preserves Luminosity of the image presented from lower layers while maintaining the Color as best it can from using the CB Adj Layer  (It holds the Hue and does its best to keep the same Saturation yet the Luminoisty from the presented image from lower layers takes prescendence).  This does a much better job at preserving Luminosity than using the checkbox option.    I usually use this approach and keep the Preserve Luminiosity box turned off.
    The error that I made was during the fairly involved exchange with this other individual, at some point I accidentally set the Layer Mask for the CB Adj Layer to 50% gray and did not notice that it had changed from the default white.  Much further down the line, when this other individual could not exactly recreate my results, he mentioned working in CS3. Thinking this odd,  I pulled up CS3, created the image from scratch (without the erroneous mask change to 50% gray) so therefore I duplicated his results and did not realize the error was in my original Layer Stack.  To make a long story short, I went and checked for differences in all system settings, profiles, Color Settings, opacity settings, Blend settings, Layer Style settings (and their options) etc, etc and overlooked a change in the Mask gray level.        When I quickly flashed back and forth between the two documents/stack it finally popped out at me. Mea Culpa.

  • Convert PDF Document to PDF with Spot Color

    I want to convert a regular PDF document with RGB/CMYK color profile to one with Spot color. Can this be done using Acrobat X Pro, if so How?

    Hi Steve
    I am still working on the process to automate the conversion of PDF file with RGB color profile to Spot.
    I am nearly there, here is the method...
    1. Have a prefight profile with the spot color fixes. For now I put in 10 colors.
    2. Wrote a Javascript that will invoke the preflight profile
    3. Cretated an application (AutoSpotFix) in VC++ and Acrobat SDK that will open the document and assign the javascript function to 'WillSave' document action. The AutoSpotFix will then trigger the save on the document.
    Java script had to be involved because SDK cannot invoke the preflight profile.
    Now my problem is the document can contain any spot color, I need to
    a) Either put in the thousands of spot color into my preflight profile, which will take days to do. Or I can create a preflight profile file (*.kfp) and load it, which is an XML file.
    b) Dynamically load the preflight profile file with the few current colors, for which I need to dynamically create the preflifgt profile.
    Either way I have to create the *.kfp file, Is there a way to create the Preflight profile file?

  • Photoshop opens dialog box when trying to fill a layer with transparent pixels locked

    This script should set the layer to lock transparent pixels, and then fill the layer with a color. It does that, except when it gets to the fill stage, it opens the fill dialog box, and you have to hit okay.
    If you omit the transparent pixel line, it runs as expected, no dialog box.
    Is there a way to suppress the box? Or am I doing something wrong that's causing the box to open?
    #target photoshop
    app.bringToFront();

    doc.artLayers[0].isBackgroundLayer = false;
    doc.artLayers[0].transparentPixelsLocked = true;
    app.activeDocument.selection.fill(app.foregroundColor);

    Not sure why that happens.
    But I would recommend foregoing the locking and using the AM code for a Fill that honours the transparency.

  • Problem replacing black with a color

    I am having difficulty replacing black with a specific color (any color).
    I have a black and white image which is in PSD format and has RGB enabled.
    I have followed the instructions to replace a color via the following method:
    Enhance | Adjust Color | Replace Color
    I select the black color, and I select a replacement color, e.g. Red.
    The Red never replaces the black - the best it will do is turn it to some level of Grey.
    Any thoughts?
    I have loaded the sample file to the following location:
    https://www.photoshop.com/user/j29102s/testfile.psd
    thank you

    Here is a method using the brush tool.
    1. Make a new blank layer (background).
    2. Go to: Edit> Fill Layer and choose color (pick color)
        change the mode to multiply and click ok.
    3. Add another blank layer (hills) and change the blending mode
        to Lighter Color and then pick a color and paint the hills.
    4. Add another blank layer (river) and change the blending to lighter color.
        then paint the river.
    5. Repeat with a new layer for each of the things you want the same color.
    6. The advantage to using the brush tool with the layers and lighter color blending
        mode is your painting does not have to be exact. You'll see what i mean when you start painting.
    As you can gather by now there are a ton of different ways to do this in photoshop elements.
    I would try them all.

  • Using multiply effect on illustrator file with 2 color job?

    Hi,
    Encountering a tricky problem and not sure if its an InDesign fix or an Illustrator fix.
    I am working on a 2 color job—pms color + black on a book cover. The cover needs to seperate into these 2 colors.
    Also, I need to make a high res and lowres pdf that look like the cover to send out to marketing, sales etc.
    WHAT's THE PROBLEM?...
    Well, I am creating a collage with black ink vector graphics on top of the pms background. I created this art in illustrator. it is saved as an .eps file. The illos were done by someone who used a white fill to knock out black areas. There is also a wide 50% grey outline around the illustration.
    I like the idea of the line of the illo being black and the fill being red so that it looks seethrough on the red background. But the 50% grey outline causes a problem...I'd like the 50% outline to blend with the red color, so instead of appearing like there is white in the ink it overprints.
    The only way I could think of (and quickest way) was to apply the multiply filter in illustrator to the vector illo. This seemed to work great.
    I brought the illo into InDesign where I created my cover layout.
    Looks great, Prints great. Separations appear to be good, although it shows the yellow, cyan, and majenta layer they appear to be blank, so I think it will seperate nicely into 2 plates–PMS + black.
    BUT, when I make a pdf, using "smallest file size" or using "high quality print", the pdf it makes does not show the illustrations in the collage. They are kind of beige and dulled out. The publisher needs pdfs too.
    Does this at all indicate that this job will not print correctly using this multiply filter, or is it all well and good final product wise, but its just an issue making the pdf? I am slightly nervous I am going to send this off to the printer and they will have some issue.
    I am a professional designer of 10 years with lots of print experience, but I have never used multiply in illustrator so I just want to make sure there is no rule against doing this I should know about. Does multiply at all mess with the color separations or is it fine? And how do I get my pdf to come out right? I'm hoping there's some dumb thing I'm forgetting, or a simple fix.
    Thanks for any insight you may have!
    L.

    I did figure out after posting this that I was using one .ai file and one .eps file—the .ai was showing up fine in the pdf and the eps was showing up screwy.
    odd thing though, when I just re-exported using pdf/x–1a settings, now both images appear muddy! but fine when I turn "overprint preview" on. I just don't want my publisher to have to tell everybody to turn overprint preview on...they shouldn't have to do that for editors etc, non design people.
    maybe the new "smallest file size" will be fine though since this is a press preset...we'll see.
