Report generation insert name

I need to insert a name for a cell or range of cells. Can I do this with the Report Generation toolkit?

I needed to define a name using Labview for a cell or range of cells so that I can use the name in formulas and a summary worksheet. Using Report Generation VI's, I was able to place data in cells using names, but did not see a VI to define a name. My Excel spreadsheet will have 16 worksheets with data in rows. The amount of data will vary, so I find the last row in each worksheet and place my sum and / or averages after the last row of data. I then wanted to assign a name such as "Range1_NT" to the cell. A summary worksheet will reference to and display the values of "Range1_NT", ......  instead of a cell designator "$B$123".

  • Report generation, inserting Excel formulas

    Hi everyone,
We just acquired the Report Generation Toolkit. I've got the basic report figured out but I'm stymied at inserting formulas where I need to. The report will have one row added when data is acquired. At that time I need to insert two formulas each referring to the cell immediately to the left of the cell it's in. I've found examples that put formulas at the end of the sheet but none that plugs them in as the data is being saved. Does anyone have an example of how this can be done?
    Thanks

This snippet creates a report with the value 3 in a cell (as it turns out, it's cell A1).  Note that because I'm using Excel Easy Table, I need to turn my scalar (3) into a 2D array.  Easy Table gives me the cell address just to the right of the insertion (where the Formula will go -- by subtracting one from the Column, I can get back the Excel Address (A1) of the "cell to the left".  I then create a formula (starting with "=") that doubles this cell and adds 0.5, then use Excel Insert Formula to put it into the Worksheet, where it becomes 6.5.

  • Labview 2013 report generation toolkit word 2010 insert table problem

    Hi,
I am currently evaluating LV2013 with respect to the report generation toolkit for use with word 2010. My Vi/program won't insert the correct table and gives me an error message. see below:-
Exception occured in Microsoft Word: The requested member of the collection does not exist.Help Path is wdmain11.chm and context 25421 in NI_ReportGenerationToolkit.lvlib:Word_Insert_Table.vi->NI_Word.lvclass:Append Text Table to Report.vi->Word Table save.vi
I have since run the following word example.vi provided by NI within LV2013 office examples:- Growable table.vi. this gives me the same error!
Exception occured in Microsoft Word: The requested member of the collection does not exist.Help Path is wdmain11.chm and context 25421 in NI_ReportGenerationToolkit.lvlib:Word_Insert_Table.vi->NI_Word.lvclass:Append Text Table to Report.vi->Growable table.vi
It would seem that regardless of my own Vi there is a fundamental problem in the office example vi.
I have found examples of a similar problem in LV2011/2012 but the work around code doesn't seem to match the LV2013 vi's code for a direct replacement.
Can anyone help/shed some light on this?
    Thanks in advance,
    Dan.

Because the upgrade of Word from 2007 to 2010 I needed to upgrade an existing application from LabVIEW 2009 to 2013. This didn't work because of the insert table error. I discovered that the problem is the vi called "Word_Insert_Table.vi" located in the ..Program Files (x86)\National Instruments\LabVIEW 2013\vi.lib\addons\_office\_wordsub.llb. There is a "Cut" command implemented, this command removes the created cell instead of clearing it. Therefore the table will be filled half and then returnes with an error. I have removed this command. I have posted the changed vi (LV 2013).

  • File name collision during build that includes Report Generation toolkit. How to correct?

When I switched to LV 8.6 (it's also in 8.6.1) I started getting a file name collision warning when building an installer that included the Report Generation toolkit. The executable works, but I don't like to leave warnings uninvestigated. I don't understand 1) why it's happening now and 2) what it's recommending for the fix. Here's part of the actual warning it gives.
LabVIEW prevented a file name collision during the
build. Duplicate file names cannot be copied to the same destination. You can
rename files as part of the build process to avoid name conflicts.
The following files were moved to a unique
    location:

    Hi GS,
The architecture of the Report Generation Toolkit was changed in LabVIEW 8.6 to utilize LabVIEW Classes.  As such, there are some warnings during an EXE build because the class VIs have identical names.  Classes were not used in the toolkit in LabVIEW 8.5 and previous...that's why you didn't see any warnings during the build until now.
Your EXE should still function properly, and you shouldn't have to change anything about your build.  The purpose of the warnings is to let you know that the duplicate-named VIs needed to be handled differently during the build.

  • Is it possible to insert data into two Excel worksheets using Report Generation Toolkit?

I'm using the toolkit to insert data into two separate worksheets in Excel using named cells. The problem is that it tends to favor one sheet or the other. In other words, one sheet will have data and the other no data and vice versa. (Sometimes I get data in both sheets.) Is there something I can do to clear this up or is what I'm trying to do unreasonable? I would like to use two worksheets so one sheet receives text and data. The other sheet is used to format the data into a printable report. (i.e. using Excel's CONCATENATE function) The second (report) sheet is also used to receive plots (JPEG files) from LabVIEW. I'd send the plot images to the first sheet, but I can
not see a way to automatically transfer images from sheet to sheet. I'm using LV 7.1, Win2000 and Toolkit v.1.0.1

    Hi,
You can use the "Excel Get Worksheet.vi" under All Functions >> Report Generation >> Excel Specific >> Excel General to specify a particular worksheet as the current worksheet. Then, you can specify which worksheet you want to write to in your VI.
Let me know if you have any further questions and good luck!

  • Inserting an image into a Word Table with the Report Generation Toolkit.

I was wondering if it was possibe to use the Report Generation Toolkit to place an image into the cell of a table in a Word document?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hi,
Yes, you can do this by using the Word Edit Cell VI under Report Generation>>Word Specific>>Word Tables in your block diagram functions pallette.  After creating a table, you can edit specific cells and send the file path of the image saved on your computer to that specific cell.  I put together an example that I've attached here as well to help you out with this.

  • MS Report Generation

    Hallo Folks,
one question please. When using the report generation toolkit, I would like to read a data file in ASCII and make a report in MS Excel. So the file contains a header and the actual data, i.e. 6 different columns for ach variable acquired. How do I make several graphs in one report. Generally, is it OK to make a template in Excel (which I did) which already contains the graphs that are updated by the data file ? If not I suppose i have to make the empty template into which I insert the plots from Labview. But then I use the approach to insert a new graph and then additional functions as scaling, setting the object color and so on. I tried to run everything in the way that first plot is made and edited, then I close the activeX reference of the plot and pass on the ref. number of the report into the additional charts. Somehow it does not work since I fill the header data into the report but no plots are actually shown. Error is -4110 (NI_ReportGenerationToolkit.lvlib:Excel_Get_Range.vi -> NI_Excel.lvclass:Excel Insert Graph.vi -> Chart Options.vi -> MS Excel Report. Trial.vi). I suppose from debugging that one source of the code is that it actually closes the report befor the plots are even made. I suppose this can be avoided by data flow when the closing actuallly waits for the error from the previous functions, i.e. making the charts. The fundamental question, however, is if I have to make the plots in parallel (splitting the ref. number and error nodes) to each of the graph, or whether i can make it in a series. I attach the code for illustration. Any help is appreciated.
    Yours Sincerely

    Hallo Joseph,
thank you for the feed back and sorry for the unclarity. I would like to have a small vi that opens a datalog file which contains six variables (one indepent time column) and all other dependent ones. I point the vi to my template in excel which does have user information and experiment related information so far with empty values. No graphs are in this  excel template at the moment of opening. Upon reading the datalog file the values in cells are extracted from the datalog file header and I want to make five graphs in excel from the data.
I mean first of all I do not want to have more plots in one graph since excel in my opinion is clumsy at that, at second the data are more readable one at a time. What I am not sure about is the way I make the graphs. Menaing I open the report, fill in the cell values than I make one graph, edit it, close its activeX reference make another one and so o until the last graph is made. In the end I close the activX reference of the report itself and save the report under a specified name. In other words I am not sure of is when closing the first graph the reference of the report is still the same ? I read in the LV Help that the additional graph function like scaling and updating do not work with the graph that is created directly in Excel, so by that I understand  that I have to create the graphs from within LV code. Otherwise, I think it would be much easier to make the graphs in the excel template do all the formatting, scaling and labeling in excel and each time I call the vi it just updates the data in cells and in the graphs as well. Thank you and have a nice day.
    Yours Sincerely

  • How to use the Report Generation Toolkit to get a list of bookmarks in a Word Template

I am working on a project where I will need to use the Report Generation Toolkit to fill out a fairly long Word Template. The MS Office Report Express VI can only have inputs for a maximum of 17 bookmarks which is not nearly enough for what I am needing to do.
I'm wondering if there is some way to use the lower level report generation VIs to read the word template and return a list of the bookmark names as a 1d array of string. The dialog box that you use to set up the Express VI has this capability but I'm not finding a way to scan the document programatically.
I'm sure I can't be the first person to run into this issue and I'm hoping that someone out there has found a good solution.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Wordsub.llb should be somewhere in your Labview folder on your local drive. The path to it in my install is: C:\Program Files\National Instruments\LabVIEW 8.6\vi.lib\addons\_office\_wordsub.llb
Also what specific problem are you referring to about 17 bookmarks? Is that the limit on the express style VI for filling them in from LV? If so what you will need to do is to use the lower level function 'Word Insert Field' under Word Advanced VIs. You will need to supply the VI the name of the bookmark and the text you want to insert.

  • Control checkbox form field in word with report generation toolkit for Microsoft office

    Hi all,
    Happy New Year!
I insert in the word template the check box form field. It has a bookmark name "Check1".
Now I'm trying to checked or unchecked this field using the report generation toolkit for Microsoft office and I couldn't. If anyone now how to do it? I'm using LabView 8.0
    Thanks in advance,

    Boris,
The Microsoft Office Toolkit does not have support for checking/unchecking check box forum field. You would have to research the activex functionality that enables this to be checked or unchecked and then do the activex calls yourself. I did hear of one csutomer who used a special font to write a blank box or a checkbox into a word document and changed it that way as well.
Maybe http://www.ozgrid.com/forum/showthread.php?t=53715 gives a hint to an activex reference

  • LabView Exe Application file not launch Excel application for report generation

    Dear All,
I created one LabVIEW application file for report generation (using Excel Template).
While I run the program in programming mode it works well and create the report file in the specified path.
After creation of the application file(exe), it gives the correct path of where the excel template is placed. The same path is given to New Report.vi, but it gives the error 'File Not Found'.
Tell me, is any other configuration required for generating Excel reports? (During exe application mode)
    Give me the solution.
    Thank You
    Jegan.

    Hello,
Most likely you are encountering a problem of stripping and/or building paths.  Probably the easiest thing to do is put a couple indicators on your front panel for the path or paths you care about, build your exe, and make sure you are really using the path you'd like.  If you always put the report at some deterministic place relative to the exe (that is, even it the exe is moved, it will go with the exe and remain in the same relative path location, then you can use the Current VIs Path funtion found in the ... File I/O -> File Constants palette as a start path (where you will want to strip at least the exe name off of course).
I think this will bring some clarity to the issue!

  • Using remote machines for report generation

Since LabView does not have cross-platform openoffice support, I was looking at ways of generating reports from a LabView session (2010) running on a mac. The report generation VI contains a somewhat suggestive machine name input. Can one connect to a remote machine (which is windows XP and has microsoft word / excel installed) to generate reports from a mac running LabView ?

With some work I think is is do-able.
If the PC had an exe deployed and running that was served via VI Server the report could be run and generated on the PC when invoked from the Mac.
    So in theory yes!
    Edit:
VI server is not required if the exe on the PC listens at a TCP/IP port and supports a protocol to accept the report "job".
I'll watch to see (and in hopes of) a better solution form others.

  • Error 7 report generation

    Good Day,
I seem to be having a little trouble with the report generation tool.  I'm running Labview 7.1, have the MS Report Toolkit.  I have a construct that creates and formats an Excel Report.  It works fine when running it from the developement environment, but when I create an executable and run from the runtime environment, it errors right at the first stage of this sequence, at "New Report.vi".  To this VI I have an "Excel" constant tied to input "Report Type" with no other inputs.  The error that is caught is code 7 "Open VI Reference in New Report.vi->filename.vi" replacing filename with the name of my file (not to state the obvious).
Is there a seperate runtime toolkit that needs to be installed?
    Any ideas?  Thanks a bunch.

    Hello,
Please read the section in the User Guide for the Report Generation Toolkit on building an executable out of your VI.  There are many VIs that are called dynamically by the toolkit that must be handled in a special way (specifically, added as Dynamic VIs to your application) when you build your VI into an executable.

  • Report Generation Toolkit V9.0.0 : Print Report.vi doesnt print

    Hi,
i have migrated my Labview 8.5 Project with Report Generation Toolkit V1.1.2 to a Labview 2009 System with Report Generation Toolkit V9.0.0.
In this Project I use the Report Generation Toolkit for printing out a Standard Report with e few Tables and Graphs.
Now the VI Print Report.vi delivers the Error -41002 with the Text "Invalide Printer Name". I have, of course installed the propper Printer on the machine.
I don´t connect a string to the "Printer name" input of the VI, because i want to use the default printer.
In my oppinion, there´s  a bug in the Print Report.vi: if you don´t wire the "Printer name" input, the vi should use the default printer, but in this case the vi connects the empty input string to the input of the method node it calls.
I fixed this bug, but the method node still returns the same error.
    any ideas?
    Thanks!

    Thank you for the link!
For some reasons i can´t find this specific article in the knowledge base (my browser is always rerouted to the german version of ni.com, because i am in Austria). I tried to search with the exact title of this article, and the error message string, but no results...
I have also installed Labview 8.5 and the "old" Toolkits on my new computer in addition to Labview 2009 and the "new" Toolkits and tested my program in 8.5. Here i got an error mentioning the margins and i had to change the margin settings for printing out, then in worked.
After reading the article, i have applied the same changes for the margins in the 2009-version of my program and it works too!
    Problem solved!
    Thank you very much!
    PS:
I first wrote, that there´s maybe a bug in the new version of the Print Report.vi, but i´ve compared it with the old version and it seems to be no bug, sorry!
After all I decided to stay with Labview 8.5 for now, because of another problem:
it´s not possible to "save for previous version" from LV2009 to LV8.5 directly.
Laview crashes, when a VI contains an event structure as i found out by searching through the "known issues", and i have a lot of VIs with event structures!
I have to have the possibility to save my Labview projects for 8.0 and 8.5. The only way is to save for 8.6 and then save from 8.6 to 8.5.
    That´s nasty and time-consuming!
Maybe a future update will solve this problem (without producing new ones)

We need to see the code in order to say "Here is the error" or "Try doing it this way".  It also gives us something to try, ourselves.  Do you know how to make "snippets", which are .PNG "pictures" of your code that you can simply put into the message using Insert Image?  We can then drag this image into a LabVIEW Block Diagram, and voilà, working code!
