Report Generation Toolkit: Page Numbering

When creating a Word Report using the Report Generation Toolkit, I am using the Word Set Page Numbering.vi to display the page numbers in the footer of each page of the report. This works fine when the include page x of n switch is turned OFF. However, when the switch is turned ON the numbers only show up in the left footer regardless of the position setting.
Is this a known bug?
If not where do I report it?
I guess I just did...

Hi Drugar,
I have filed a CAR (43K9NBF2) regarding this issue.  I will look into fixing it for the next version of the Report Generation Toolkit.  If you want to workaround the problem for now, go into vi.lib\addons\_office\word.llb\Word_auto_text_entry (for page number).vi.  You can get a reference to the "Selection" property of the Application class.  Then under Selection, get a reference to "ParagraphFormat".  Then, you can set the "Alignment" property of the ParagraphFormat class.
Thanks for reporting this issue, and let me know if you have any other questions.

  • How do I use page numbering and a text block in a footer in Word with the Report Generation Toolkit?

I am creating a Word document with the Report Generation Toolkit, and LabVIEW 8.2.1. In the report I am using a template that has page numbering enabled in the center. When I try to add a text block to the left side footer, it eliminates the page numbering and adds my text on the left side. I found "Set Report Footer Text" and "Word Set Page Numbering" vi's that may be the clue to this. When I use these two vi's I either get Page 1 of 456789-001 on the left side, or if I reverse the order I get only 456789-001(text) in the left side with nothing in the center. What I would like to achieve is 456789-001(text) on the left footer, and Page 1 of 2 in the center. Is this possible and if it is, then how can I do it?

    Hi SciManStev,
I have attached a vi where you can see how they can be made to work together. You have to design it such that one follows the other. If you don't design it that way, it results in a race condition and only one of them get executed.
    Good Luck!

  • Print number of pages with Report Generation toolkit

I use the report generation toolkit and the Print Report.vi to print a table and some text extracted from a MS Access database. The result of this is a print out that takes up several pages.
Now, on each page i want something like (Page x of y), and I do not want to buy more expensive NI packages for this simple thing. I know it should be possible since the Report Express vi can do it --- which for me is a useless vi.
I do not consider it a nice solution to try and keep track of the number of pages myself by dividing the table into more tables and use the new page vi between each "page table". This I would not like to do since depending on paper size, font size, and length of text strings in each cell this will be virtually impossible.
By moving into the Print Report.vi I've tried to see if I somehow can extract the info --- I've not found anything usefull but expect a workaround to possible.
    Any suggestions?
    Cheers,
    Martin

    Hi Skinny,
There are some tokens you can use in the headers and footers of Standard Reports generated by the Report Generation VIs.  If you take a look at [LabVIEW]\examples\reports\TextReportExample.llb\Text Report Example.vi, you'll see that the right footer text of the report has the token <pagenofm>, which generates a footer of the form "1 of 10", to indicate page 1 out of 10 pages.  There's also another tag you can use, <page>, that just lists the page number itself without a total number of pages.  If you look at the help for the Set Report Header Text.vi or Set Report Footer Text.vi, you'll see a link in the help for all the different "tokens" you can use with the report header and footer.  Actually, now that I think about it, you can use these tokens anywhere in the report, including the body text.
    Good luck,

  • Report generation toolkit and signal express user step : problem of closing reference in "Stop" event

    Hi all,
I'm trying to make a package of Vis to easily make Excel reports with Signal Express. I'm working on LabVIEW 8.2.1.
I'm using the report generation toolkit, so I build a .llb from my project which contains all the hierarchy of my steps, but also the hierarchy of dynamic VIs called.
I have made some steps, like "Open Workbook", "Write Data", etc.
My steps run well, excepts one step : "Close Workbook".
If my "Close Workbook" step is firing on "Run" Signal Express event, I have no error, so my reference is properly closed.
But if my "Close Workbook" step is firing on "Stop" Signal Express event, I have an error "1", from "Generate Report Objectrepository.vi".
I feel that I'm trying to use a reference which has been killed in the "Stop" step...
I would like to know what exactly do Signal Express on "Stop" event and why my close function does'nt run well.
    Thanks,
    Callahan

    Hi Callahan,
SignalExpress (SE for short) does the following on the Stop event:
    1. Takes the list of parameters that SE found on your VI's connector pane, and sets the values that the user set from the "Run LabVIEW VI" configuration page, if any.
    2. Then tells the VI that SE is running the Stop event by setting the Enum found on your VI's front panel. This in turn should produce some boolean values telling your VI to execute the Stop case.
    3. The VI is then run, with those values and states.
    4. SE checks to see if any errors where returned.
    5. Since this is the Stop event, SE releases the reference to the VI which it possesses.
Questions for you would be, is the reference to your Workbook linked to a control on your connector pane, or held in a uninitialized Shift Register. If it's held in a Shift Register, SE would not be aware of it, and would not be able to affect that reference.
Hope that helps. Feel free to post your LLB if it doesn't.
    Phil

  • Report Generation Toolkit missing VI

    LabVIEW version 8.6.1
    Report Generation Toolkit 1.13
I have just started work on an ongoing project that others have been contributing to for some time.  (Hence the project being in older versions of LabVIEW)
On my PC, I am apparently missing the VI "Word Get ActiveX References.vi"
I do have the version 1.13 of the toolkit installed, just as every other machine that runs this code does.  But my word.llb does not contain that VI
I have tried simply copying that VI into the .llb   The VI is then found by the application.  But is not executable due to this error:  This VI is connected with a library that does not include the VI. The VI might have been deleted from the library. Add the VI to the library again or select File»Disconnect from Library.
I have also tried replacing my entire  C:\Program Files\National Instruments\LabVIEW 8.6\vi.lib\addons\_office\  directory with files from a PC that was working.  Again, I get the same error as above.
I did attempt to do a repair on my installation of the toolkit.  But as far as I can tell, this didn't do anything.
I also tried simply reinstalling the toolkit.  But since it was already installed, it did nothing.  I am hesitant to uninstall and reinstall the toolkit for fear of breaking all of my 8.6 projects, as well as possibly my 2009 projects.  I wouldn't think it mess with my 2009 installation.  But I do know that the order in which things are installed can be critical in system with multiple versions.  I'm not sure if this applies to toolkits or not.
This PC also has an installation of LV 2009 SP1, and that version also has the Report Generation Toolkit installed. (although it is a different revision of the toolkit than 1.13)
I know that in the past, multiple versions of this toolkit were not compatible, meaning only one installed version of LabVIEW could have a working Report Generation Toolkit installed.  But I was of the understanding that this was no longer a problem.  Although it may not be a coincidence that neither of the other development boxes running this code do not have LV 2009 installed.
Has anyone else ever run into a similar problem and found a solution?
    Thanks.

Back before we unified the LabVIEW and toolkit version numbers (in 2009), there were cases where we didn't change the version number in the registry for one reason or another on a minor upgrade.
    Ah.  This makes sense then.
I just reinstalled said toolkit from said SSP DVD and although it did tell me that I was about to install 1.1.4, MAX still thinks it's 1.1.3
...except that now I do have the missing VI.  This is a good thingTM
I still wonder how it ended up missing, because I'm really sure this is where I installed the toolkit from in the first place.   I'll probably never know for sure.  But that's a lot easier to take when the code is working.
    Thanks!

  • Report generation toolkit conditional format - how to?

    Hi
We are using the Report generation toolkit (2010 version), and have a question regarding this tool.
I see functions for setting the number format, but not a conditional format. Does this not exist?
    http://zone.ni.com/reference/en-XX/help/372120A-01/lvoffice/excel_set_cell_format/
This page refers to an example which from the name sets a conditional format. However as I understand it, this example is setting a custom number, not a conditional format.

    Hi,
the simplest way to do this I guess you can provide a template for your Excel sheet, where you can set the conditional format there.
From LabVIEW you can just send the values into this sheet-template.
Maybe you can try these if you want

  • Report Generation Toolkit - Error message rpcrt4.dll

    Hello
My labview app. calls functions from the Report Generation Toolkit. I tested the runtime version, and this work fine under in Windows NT and Windows 2000, but does not work under Windows 98. I got and error message say "rpcrt4.dll Page not valid" that seem come from Windows and is related to a Remote Procedure Call. I already check the version of this dll 4.71.2900

The rpcrt4.dll is part of the DCom98 package. I have seen other problems, unrelated to LabVIEW, with this .dll arise when other programs have installed different versions of some of the DCom DLLs. You may want to consider trying this program out on another Win98 machine, or you may want to search through the Microsoft Support page for errors with this dll, specifically with the error number in the message you receive. The ones that I have seen have suggested restoring the DCom dlls to the original ones from the Win98 disk. There is also an update to the DCom components for Windows 98 (version 1.3) on the Microsoft website.

  • Ridiculous number of directories when build includes Report Generation Toolkit

I was getting error 7 with the report generation toolkit, so I followed the steps here and it works. Only problem is, it makes a different support directory for each individual file in the NIReport.llb directory.
The calendar and data directories are my own. The rest are the RGT.

I set NIReport.llb to always included like it said, but it wasn't showing up after I did a build. So...I left it included always, I created my own destination with the same name (NIReport.llb) on the Destinations page of the app builder, went to the Source File Settings page of the app builder, selected NIReport.llb and set the location to be my NIReport.llb folder I created. I did a build and this solved the problem and all the NIReport.llb files were placed in a NIReport.llb directory. Someone pleaseeee tell me if there is a better way, but this will work for now.

  • Report Generation Toolkit Print HTML Problem

    Hi,
i have a problem printing a html Page at a Costumers PC with the Report Generation Toolkit.
I use LV 2012 and the Report Generation Toolkit in 32Bit Mode.
The Target is a Win7 64Bit Machine with IE10 of our Customer with very strong security rules.
Our Programm generates a HTML Repor which is saved without any problem.
When i then try to print it with Print Report.vi it doesent work and i get error1 out of the SubVi NI_ReportGenerationCore.lvlibrint HTML Report using IE.vi.
This Sub.vi simply cant open the HTML Page with the IE.
I think its the costumers Security Rules that cause the Problem.
I saw a very strange behavior of the IE.
When i double click the .html file the IE gets opened and displays the file properly.
When i then hit the reload button it also gets reloaded.
When i click in the browsers adress bar and hit enter (Which normaly does a reload) i get an error "Adress Bar, Adresse, access denied".
And i think that happens in the Sub.vi.
I talked to some friends an they sad it could be that double clicking and reloding is done with the local user an the clicking and hitting enter reload is maybe the systemuser.
So i asume that the Sub.vi is also using the systemuser.
How can i determin which user is used to execute a vi?
    Can i influence the user?
Has anybody a solution and seen this problem?
    Regards,
    westgate

If I understand your situation correctly, you are able to use the LabVIEW Report Generation Toolkit to create an HTML report, which you save as an HTML file.  Can you open it in a browser and print it using the browser's Print button?  I've use LabVIEW to generate HTML reports, but have never tried to print the Reports in LabVIEW -- I've always used the "browser route", myself.

  • Report generation toolkit: Avoid a separation of title and image at pagebreak in a work document.

I want to generate a report with the report generation toolkit in LV7.1.
In that report I use several report VIs to append text, titles and frontpanel images to a word document template (Office 2003). That works fine.
Depending on the size and text of my generated report, I have sometimes a problem with pagebreaks: A image is set to a new page if there is not enough space to place it on the old one. That’s ok. The text/title above the image is still on the old page. That's right, but I don’t want this. I know in Word you can use the paragraph formatting options to avoid a separation. But with the corresponding VI from the toolkit (word format paragraph (adv)) it seems not to work. With this VI you should have access to "indents and spacing" and to "line and page breaks". I always and only can change the "indents and spacing". En- or Disabling line or page breaks with this VI does not work, nothing changes in a word document.
Has anyone some suggestions or other solutions?
    Thanks in advance!

Thanks for your input. You are right, that works and could be an alternative.
In the meantime I found a solution with creating my own activex vi instead of that from the toolkit as you can see in the attached image. Maybe this could help someone with similar problems...

  • Suggestion about Report Generation Toolkit

I'm adding report generation capabilities to a labview product test application.  The report will be 2-4 pages long with text and plots.  For other applications, I've used Word Templates in the past using VBA and Visual Basis 6.   I had been planning to use the Report Generation Toolkit, but when I tried to run the examples Labview doesn't find the installation of Office, (I'm using Windows Vista).  I've already read other posts about this particular problem and other issues with the Report Generation Toolkit for Microsoft Office, including upgrading to Office 2007 and beyond and I'm beginning to wonder if there might be a better longterm solution than the Report Generation using Microsoft Office.
The two alternatives that I'm considering are HTML, and Simplicity AI's PDF toolkit (free),
       http://www.simplicityai.co.uk/products_services/products/pdftoolkit/
which I still have to investigate.  I figure I could always generate in HTML and then print to PDF using something like PDFcreator (free).
If anyone has any comments/reviews/suggestions about the report generation from Labview, I'd appreciate hearing them.

  • Difference between diadem and LabVIEW Report Generation Toolkit

I want to expand LabVIEW's reporting capabilities.  Can someone tell me what the difference is between DIAdem and the LabVIEW Report Generation Toolkit for Microsoft Office.

    Hello Mr Bean,
There are several major differences between the two solutions. I'll try and outline them as good as I can ...
The biggest different is that LabVIEW and its toolkits are programming tools and DIAdem is a ready to run application.
The LabVIEW Report Generation Toolkit basically provides an extensive library of VIs that allow you to connect LabVIEW to the MS Office library and create and edit reports in Word and Excel.
DIAdem is a stand alone application that was designed to post-process data from various sources. The tools included in DIAdem are:
    1. NAVIGATOR: Allows you to import data from files (ASCII, binary, Excel, etc.) as well as DataBases (SQL/ODBC, Citadel, ASAM, etc.). The unique DataPlugin technology available within DIAdem allows you to import vitually and data file by creating a DataPlugin that describes the data format and gets linked to DIAdem. More information at: http://www.ni.com/diadem/dataplugins.htm
    2. VIEW: Graphical and Numerical data inspection tool. Use cursors to zoom and scroll through your data, edit your data graphically and numerically and compare different tests.
    3. ANALYSIS: DIAdem has a wide range of analysis functions, ranging from simple functions like integration and differentiation to FFTs, Order analysis and 3D data analysis.
    4. REPORT: The DIAdem REPORT tool allows you to create reusable report layouts that can contain multiple axis systems (2D, 3D and polar plots) as well as tables (2D and 3D) and variables. The REPORT tool generates templates that can be usedwith multiple data sets due to the inclusion of automatic (or manula if required) scaling as well as extensive use of variables for annotations. Finished reports can be exported to printers, graphics files, the Windows Clipboard, HTML pages and PDF files (PDF writing is build into DIAdem, no extra software required). Using Scripts, it is also possible to create Word, Excel or Powerpoint reports from DIAdem automatically.
    5. SCRIPT: The DIAdem scripting tools allows users to record macros or write scripts that automate complete sequences, for the import of data, via extensive analysis, to creating a publication ready report. Scripts can make reports "intelligent" by modifying the appearance of a report based on the data or calculation results that are going to be displayed in the report.
I recommend you check out the following link for more information: http://www.ni.com/diadem/
DIAdem is an extremly powerful tool for report generation. I am leaving to go on a business trip to Asia, but I would be more than happy to give you an Web presentation on DIAdem after I have returned. We could use your data and create a DIAdem report Script together online. My Email address is [email protected] and I will be back the week of Thanksgiving.

  • How do I put data into a template using the Labview report generation toolkit for Microsoft Office?

I am running Lookout 5.0 and have recently purchased the Labview Report Generation Toolkit for Microsoft Office to create reports from my Lookout logged data. Since I have never used Labview I am having my problems. I tried following the tutorials but they do not seem to be examples of what I want to do.
I log rainfall totals (1 spreadsheet)in Lookout from 40 different sites in 5 minute increments. I copy these totals and paste them into another spreadsheet which sums them up to give me hourly totals and then paste those totals into a spreadsheet for distribution.
In Labview I create a new report and use the distribution sheet as my template, but how do I complete
the steps of loading the raw 5 minute data into labview and then paste it into the hourly total spreadsheet and then transfer those totals into the distribution template?
I have been trying to figure this out for over a week, and I am getting nowhere.
    Any response would be appreciated.
    Thanks
    Jason P
    Jason Phillips

Lookout saves the files in .csv form which can be opened in Excel. I did make some progress by using the "append table to report" vi which allowed me to put values into an array and then those values were entered into my template on my report vi.
Where I am stuck now is I want to be able to put values into my template from a .csv file, not from an array I have to manually put numbers in.
Once those values are in my template I want to pull summed values from the template and place them into a final excel file for printing.
I have attached examples of the files I am working with to help you better understand what I am trying to do.
    I hope that makes sense.

  • Problem with the number format in the graph axis with Report Generation Toolkit.

    Hi!
I'm trying to use the Report Generation Toolkit to plot some graphs in Excel.
My first problem is that I don't know how to configure the number format in the Excel Set Graph Font.vi so that my numbers are correctly displayed in the graph's axis. The only given option is general (0,0) but this is not enough for me, my numbers can get really small so I need engineering notation or fraccional format.
Second: I also insert a table with the graph source data, but the numbers are not correctly displayed either: for example:
    0,75 is shown as:
    0,750000
    but 1,25  is shown as:
    1!250!000
My guess is I am making to much or wrong string to number conversions or Excel is getting it wrong but I can't find my way...
Can someone help me with this?
    Thanks,
    Isabel

Here is my VI, it's just a trial so it can look messy...

  • Changing the Size of generated graph in excel report generation toolkit

Hi, i am trying to build a report generation vi for my Structural health monitoring system in which i need to export 3 graphs in to an excel report. The idea is to have the report on a single page, but when i paste them along with the ceiling and pillar deviation percentages, the report just exceeds the page limit. I wanted to know whether one can change the size of the graphs in excel? One can do it in word(tried that), but i dont want to use the bookmark option as it intend to put this up as a webservice in the next step. I am using LabVIEW 2009 Thanks.

    Hi,
I haven't tried this myself, but looking through the report generation toolkit the "Excel format image VI" (in the Excel specific tab of the Report Genertaion window) looks to be the one you are after. The help entry for the VI says to: "Use this VI to format any type of image in a worksheet, including front panel images, images from a file, and graphs"
    Hopefully this will help.
