Reporting on the SQL generated by webI and Deski reports

I'm running BOXI 3.1 SP3 on a Windows.  I have about 2800 Webi and Deski reports live.  The majority of these reports return data from a Oracle data source that is not managed in-house.
I'm needing an admin type software that can query the repository for all my reports, generate the SQL for each report, spit out the name of the report and the SQL of the report and any filters/variables on the report into a searchable file that I can parse through to look for specific query filters (and report filters if it has any.)
I have method for pulling a list of reports that are using an universe's object X, but I really need a method of searching all the WHERE clauses all my reports and inside the report in the variables and
Does anybody know of anything  that does this that is available for purchase?  I've tried leveraging the Activity Universe and it's just too slow to use.

Hi,
I am sorry but I could not infer much from your issue. However, vaguely I understand that you might have missed the grain settings for table A. Generally, when there are no proper grain settings (set through content tab in LTS), the BI Server might show NULL values.
You may want to revisit your LTS for these tables once again and running through level 5 log also might help here.
Hope this helps.
Thank you,
Dhar

Can we edit webi and deski reports and save the changed values for a particular column?
If yes what rights should be granted to particular user?
Will the report changes reflect at database end also?

Both Web Intelligence and Desktop Intelligence comes with designers, where you have a GUI to design reports.
Web Intelligence you'd design in InfoView using the DHTML Report Panel or the applet-based Java Reporting Panel.
Desktop Intelligence you'd use the Desktop Intelligence client.
ReportEngine Java SDK (REBean) is what you'd use to programmatically create/modify Web Intelligence Documents.
Desktop Intelligence Reporter COM SDK is what you'd use to programmatically create/modify Desktop Intelligence Documents.

  • Webi and Deski report engine ports

We're having problems connecting to the webi or deski report engines through a firewall with BO XI R2 Java SDK. We've followed this document extensively :
    https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/scn/go/portal/prtroot/docs/library/uuid/0047e5f4-3140-2b10-1bae-de175e4c741c
We've set the -port and -requestport switches but the opendocument call always hangs and eventually gives out the error :
No server was available to process the request. Please try again later. (Error: RFC 00101)
Its definitely a firewall issue - I can turn off the firewall to solve it, but obviously that's not a long term solution.
I believe we have configured the servers correctly according to that document given we managed to successfully connect to the CMS through a firewall following the same procedure.
If anyone has any experience connecting to the RAS webi / deski servers through a firewall via the Java SDK, please let me know.
    Greg.

You should only be getting the getRASConnection() method log with Desktop Intelligence, since the internal server name is RAS21.  It's distinct from the public server name RAS (Report Application Server) that's specific to Crystal Reports.  Not trying to harp on this, just an FYI when posting.
How about the Desktop Intelligence Cache Server?  All communications to the Desktop Intelligence Report Server goes through the Cache Server.  So it's SDK <-> DeskI Cache <-> DeskI Report Server.

  • How to get last change timestamp for a crystal/webi and deski reports

I am currently using LAST_UPDATED_TS from CI_INFOOBJECTS to determine the report has changed in structure like a new object was added to the report etc
but this field gets updated everytime a report is refreshed though nothing has changed in the report
is there any way to know that the report has changed in structure and not just refreshed.

    Hi Manoj,
Correct, when you query the CMS database it will return the info for the object and not the source.
In code you can use this for Crystal Reports:
    reportClientDocument.SummaryInfo.(  multiple values )
This is the info saved with the RPT file, you can also use Windows File API's to get the same info.
For WEBI and DESKI doc's it does not keep that info in the file system. You may want to look at the file system properties in the FRS to see if any info is kept as it is in RPT files but we ahve no API to get the info.
    Thank you

  • Welcome to the SQL Server Disaster Recovery and Availability Forum

(Edited 8/14/2009 to correct links - Paul)
Hello everyone and welcome to the SQL Server Disaster Recovery and Availability forum. The goal of this Forum is to offer a gathering place for SQL Server users to discuss:
    Using backup and restore
Using DBCC, including interpreting output from CHECKDB and related commands
Diagnosing and recovering from hardware issues
Planning/executing a disaster recovery and/or high-availability strategy, including choosing technologies to use
The forum will have Microsoft experts in all these areas and so we should be able to answer any question. Hopefully everyone on the forum will contribute not only questions, but opinions and answers as well. I’m looking forward to seeing this becoming a vibrant forum.
This post has information to help you understand what questions to post here, and where to post questions about other technologies as well as some tips to help you find answers to your questions more quickly and how to ask a good question. See you in the group!

What to post in this forum
It seems obvious, but this forum is for discussion and questions around disaster recovery and availability using SQL Server. When you want to discuss something that is specific to those areas, this is the place to be. There are several other forums related to specific technologies you may be interested in, so if your question falls into one of these areas where there is a better batch of experts to answer your question, we’ll just move your post to that Forum so those experts can answer. Any alerts you set up will move with the post, so you’ll still get notification. Here are a few of the other forums that you might find interesting:
SQL Server Setup & Upgrade – This is where to ask all your setup and upgrade related questions. (http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/sqlsetupandupgrade/threads)
Database Mirroring – This is the best place to ask Database Mirroring how-to questions. (http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/sqldatabasemirroring/threads)

Download the full version of the BOL from here
    Microsoft Support Knowledge Base:
    Search it online at http://support.microsoft.com

Search other SQL Forums and Web Sites:
    MSN Search: http://www.bing.com/
Or use your favorite search engine
How to ask a good question
Make sure to give all the pertinent information that people will need to answer your question. Questions like “I got an IO error, any ideas?” or “What’s the best technology for me to use?” will likely go unanswered, or at best just result in a request for more information. Here are some ideas of what to include:
For the “I got an IO error, any ideas?” scenario:
The exact error message. (The SQL Errorlog and Windows Event Logs can be a rich source of information. See the section on error logs below.)
What were you doing when you got the error message?
    When did this start happening?
Any troubleshooting you’ve already done. (e.g. “I’ve already checked all the firmware and it’s up-to-date” or "I've run SQLIOStress and everything looks OK" or "I ran DBCC CHECKDB and the output is <blah>")
Any unusual occurrences before the error occurred (e.g. someone tripped the power switch, a disk in a RAID5 array died)
If relevant, the output from ‘DBCC CHECKDB (yourdbname) WITH ALL_ERRORMSGS, NO_INFOMSGS’
The SQL Server version and service pack level
For the “What’s the best technology for me to use?” scenario:
What exactly are you trying to do? Enable local hardware redundancy? Geo-clustering? Instance-level failover? Minimize downtime during recovery from IO errors with a single-system?
What are the SLAs (Service Level Agreements) you must meet? (e.g. an uptime percentage requirement, a minimum data-loss in the event of a disaster requirement, a maximum downtime in the event of a disaster requirement)
What hardware restrictions do you have? (e.g. “I’m limited to a single system” or “I have several worldwide mirror sites but the size of the pipe between them is limited to X Mbps”)
What kind of workload does you application have? (or is it a mixture of applications consolidated on a single server, each with different SLAs) How much transaction log volume is generated?
What kind of regular maintenance does your workload demand that you perform (e.g. “the update pattern of my main table is such that fragmentation increases in the clustered index, slowing down the most common queries so there’s a need to perform some fragmentation removal regularly”)
    Finding the Logs
You will often find more information about an error by looking in the Error and Event logs. There are two sets of logs that are interesting:
SQL Error Log: default location: C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.#\MSSQL\LOG (Note: The # changes depending on the ID number for the installed Instance. This is 1 for the first installation of SQL Server, but if you have mulitple instances, you will need to determine the ID number you’re working with. See the BOL for more information about Instance ID numbers.)
Windows Event Log: Go to the Event Viewer in the Administrative Tools section of the Start Menu. The System event log will show details of IO subsystem problems. The Application event log will show details of SQL Server problems.

hi,I have a question on sql database high availability. I have tried using database mirroring, where I am using sql standard edition, in this database mirroring of synchronous mode is the only option available, and it is giving problem, like sql time out errors on my applicatons since i had put in the database mirroring, as asynchronous is only available on enterprise version, is there any suggestions on this. thanks ---vijay

  • Empty report returned from WEBI and Crystal report when using external hier

    Hi,
WEBI and Crystal report build from BEX query returned empty report when we used external hierarchy 0PROFIT_CTR.  In BEX we don't have any problems with it.
No authority check is perfomed on the hierarchy when we start the report in WEBI/Crystal. Only check on the hierarchy is performed when the root authorization is assigned to the user

    Hi Sai,
Go to Report Element Tab-->There you have a Tab Cell Behaviors.
When you flip between 'With Data' and 'Structure Only' under 'Design' Tab,you can see the some cells will be hide/Un hide behavior,if hiding of cells applied.
Select that cell and then Under 'Cell Behaviors'-->'Hide' Tab-->and choose Show Option.

  • Merits and Demerits of WEBI and Crystal reports!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Dear Experts!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I came up with many documents, but i cannot able to find the exact merits and demerits over WebI and Crystal Reports.
Experts can u people help me out in this regards,
    Atleast the comparison between them.

What angle are you coming at this from?
Are you talking about in terms of replacing Deski?
Or as a first reporting tool to learn?
If you're moving away from Deski, I'd personally go for Webi. Very small amount of learning required to move from one to the other. It's also much easier to pick up and start working with.

  • Embedding WebI and Crystal reports on a web page

    Hi,
I'm new to BO, so please bear with me. I've also posted this to the .NET-side, so sorry if you've seen this post before.
We have a project where we will need to embed WebI and Crystal reports on a web page, i.e. we want the people who access the web page to get the reports (mainly graphs) as embedded content on the web page without any controls and other clutter.
Is this possible and what's the correct way of doing this?
    Thanks,
    Carl

    Hi,
    Thanks for the help!
We still face the original problem, though. I.e. with openDocoument we get the report, controls, tab selections, scroll bars etc. What we actually would like is to get just the contents of a report.
Is there any way of doing it? We're not afraid of coding, we have good developers. Or do we need to schedule report creation to some format (e.g. PDF) and then load the PDF to the web page?
Basicaly it's more important to get this working for WebI reports as we can redo almost all reports from Crystal to WebI. Of course we are happy to find a resolution for both cases.

    Carl-Gustaf

  • Portal SearchOps: Can I see the SQL generated?

Is there a way to see the SQL generated by a content search?

If you're familiar with using debug.properties, add this to your debug.properties file:
    usePackageNames: on
    com.bea.content: on
When you start the server, pass this option in:
    -Ddebug.properties=[your debug.properties file, including path]
The output will be rather verbose, and you might be able to narrow it down by replacing
    com.bea.content: on
    with
    com.bea.content.repo.internal.server.logic.SearchOpsLogic: on
    com.bea.content.repo.internal.server.common: on

I want to use the SQL Toolkit of NI and SQL Server as my databasis on a server. Do I need to install a client in each computer I want to handle the data into SQL tables or I need only a ODBC driver?

You only need the ODBC driver on each computer. If you are distributing the SQL Toolkit app as an executable and do not install the whole toolkit on each computer, you'll need the SQL Toolkit support files. This is about a dozen files. You can get the list at http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/websearch/b814be005f9da9258625658700550c75?OpenDocument.

It's often only a problem of the service dependencies. SCVMM starts to fast, SQL server on the same machine in not initialized yet. Here are working service dependencies to ensure SQL server is initializes before SCVMM starts.
You can set the service dependencies directly in regedit (as always: be careful modifying the registry ...)
Here is the content of a reg file setting the dependency.

  • To configure SSIS packages out of these SQL Server Standard, Web and Workgroup editions which is preferred?

    Hi All,
To configure SSIS packages out of these SQL Server Standard, Web and Workgroup editions which is preferred?
Grateful to your time and support. Regards, Shiva

    Hi Shiva,
SSIS designer and runtime, basic transforms, and data profiling tools are only supported by Standard and higher editions. Besides, some advanced SSIS adapters such as High performance Oracle/Teradata destination and Dimension processing destination adapter
are only supported in Enterprise edition. So, if you need to develop/modify SSIS packages on this server, Standard or even Enterprise editor is recommended.
