Reports in Manager Self Service with  java.lang.NullPointerException

Hi Everyone,
I have been breaking my head with this problem for over a week. When initially installed the reports worked fine but now when I try and access the Report Selection I get the following java.lang.NullPointerException error. I am running EP 6.0 SP14 on a ERP2004 backend system. I have compared almost all the values with the default ones and have read all documentation and set up exactly what it needs. In SAPGUI the Manage´'s Desktop shows ok via trans ppmdt, but via my MSS it shows nothing.... Any ideas ?...
SSO works ok, everything like that is already configured since the full MSS works besides the reporting.... I do not have a BW system, I would only want the reports that come from REPO or FUNC. The Report Selection page doesn't even open.
One thing I have noticed, when I change the sap.xss.rpt.scenario=RPT0 on the resource for the report selection service the screen appears showing an empty report selection, but when I enter the rpt0 value it displays that error.....
Any ideas ?? Anyone been throught this ??
Regards,
Paulo Poinha -- Accenture

Hi Paulo,
I had the same problem - it is resolved by SAP note 912976 and has to do with:
Symptom
After applying NW04 SP Stack 14 and ERP 2004 MSS SP10, the MSS Reporting application returns a java.lang.NullPointerException error.

  • Reports 11g: REP-50125: rwbuilder.conf:java.lang.NullPointerException

    Hello all,
    Please excuse my being too detailed.
    After installing Forms 11g, Reports 11g in a new Windows 7 Professional 64bit machine, I was able to run both the Forms Builder and Reports Builder.
    I then moved my forms and reports into a different folder, updated the FORMS_PATH and REPORTS_PATH in the registry, and added a key into keymap file:
    C:\Oracle\Forms\user_projects\domains\ClassicDomain\config\fmwconfig\servers\WLS_REPORTS\applications\reports_11.1.1.2.0\configuration\cgicmd.dat
    that allows hiding userid and password when calling up reports.
    I then made a change to the following file:
    C:\Oracle\Forms\user_projects\domains\ClassicDomain\config\fmwconfig\servers\WLS_REPORTS\applications\reports_11.1.1.2.0\configuration\rwservlet.properties
    by adding the following line to force reload keymap:
    <reloadkeymap>yes</reloadkeymap>
    Having done that, I could call up reports from remote clients. Unfortunately, now I cannot run the Reports Builder.
    Each time I tried, I would see a splash screen, then the usual process in task bar. But no builder appeared.
    Right-clicking the process and selecting running the builder will produce a popup dialog declaring:
    "REP-50125: rwbuilder.conf:java.lang.NullPointerException"
    I have restarted the computer, restarting the Admin Server, Reports Server, etc., to no avail.
    If I were to rename the rwbuilder.conf away, the Reports Builder will hang at the splash screen.
    The shortcut I used to run the Reports Builder is:
    C:\Oracle\Forms\asinst_1\config\reports\bin\rwbuilder.bat
    The path to the rwbuilder.conf file is:
    C:\Oracle\Forms\asinst_1\config\ReportsToolsComponent\ReportsTools\rwbuilder.conf
    and its contents, which has never been modified since installation, follow:

    Hi,
    This looks like it might be related to bug 6358304.
    Go to My Oracle Support site (Metalink) Patchs & Updates tab. Then search for 6358304.
    There is a patch downloadable for this which worked for me though I was getting the error when running reports via the server and not through starting reports builder.
    However if you search the Knowledge base for 6358304 there is a work around available by editing the cgicmd.dat - specifically by adding a space at the end of the key you added to the file:
    1. In the cgicmd.dat file, add a space at the end of the key line.
    for example:
    my_key: userid=hr/hr@oradb %* %P <--< add a space after the "P".
    2. Additional workaround is to change from :
    %* %P
    to:
    %P %*
    Hope that works for you, otherwise I would recommend raising a support request with Oracle.
    Cheers,
    Toby.

  • Jdev for R12.1.1 fails with java.lang.NullPointerException

    Hi All,
    We upgraded our 11i environment to R12 version 12.1.1
    As mentioned in metalink note 787209.1, I downloaded Patch 8431482 10G Jdeveloper with OA Extension ARU for R12.1.1 and followed all the setup steps.
    When I run the Tutorial.jpr, the page is throwing java.lang.NullPointerException. I tried this on 3 different dev boxes and am getting the same error.
    Wondering if any one was able to successfully install this version of Jdeveloper (Jdeveloper: Studio Edition Version 10.1.3.3.0.3,
    Build JDEVADF_10.1.3.3.0_NT_RELEASE)
    I made sure that:
    1) The user account has got OA Framework ToolBox Tutorial and OA Framework ToolBox Tutorial Labs responsibility attached to it.
    2) There is no problem with the database connection.
    3) Preferences --> Embeded oc4j and the Default Local IP Address is checked
    4) Am using updated DBC file and removed "/" from DBC file.

    Just an update:
    I was able to successfully setup and run the earlier version of Jdev from "Patch 7523554 10G Jdeveloper With OA Extension ARU for R12 RUP6" against R12.1.1.
    I still am getting the same error when I try to reinstall "Patch 8431482 10G Jdeveloper with OA Extension ARU for R12.1.1".
    Hoping to hear from anyone out there who has R12.1.1 and is able to run 8431482 Jdev.
    Also is there any downside in using Jdev for R12.0.6 against R12.1.1?

    Pretty much the same thing, Tomcat is the web server in CUCM, so that should have been sufficient.

  • Weblogic - a web service with java.lang.Object parameter

    hi all,
    i'm creating a web service with a java.lang.Object parameter.
    my question is as follows:
    when a client calls the web service, how to i get the soap message object and convert it to soap message string using the parameter?
    thanks,

    Here's some code from one of the Axis samples, this shows the basic process of making a call:
    package samples.message;
    import org.apache.axis.client.Service;
    import org.apache.axis.client.Call;
    import org.apache.axis.message.SOAPBodyElement;
    import org.apache.axis.utils.Options;
    import org.apache.axis.utils.XMLUtils;
    import org.w3c.dom.Element;
    import java.net.URL;
    import java.util.Vector;
    public class TestMsg {
    public String doit(String[] args) throws Exception {
    Options opts = new Options(args);
    opts.setDefaultURL("http://localhost:8080/axis/services/MessageService");
    Service service = new Service();
    Call call = (Call) service.createCall();
    call.setTargetEndpointAddress( new URL(opts.getURL()) );
    SOAPBodyElement[] input = new SOAPBodyElement[2];
    input[0] = new SOAPBodyElement(XMLUtils.StringToElement("urn:foo",
    "e1", "Hello"));
    input[1] = new SOAPBodyElement(XMLUtils.StringToElement("urn:foo",

  • Java.lang.NullPointerException with ADF Module

    Hi,
    I am trying to build simple application like "How to Build a Simple UIX Search Form

    SELECT EmIssue.ID,
    EmIssue.INITIATIVE_ID,
    EmIssue.NAME,
    EmIssue.DESCRIPTION

    =====================================================
    And I added new method at AppModuleImpl
    It is
    ViewObject Issue = findViewObject("EmIssueView1");
    System.out.println("***In setBindVars*****");
    String WhereClause = " EmIssue.NAME like '%issue%'";
    Issue.setWhereClause(WhereClause);
    System.out.println("***END setBindVars*****");
    Issue.executeQuery();
    =====================================================
    And the system raises error with java.lang.NullPointerException at line
    String WhereClause = " EmIssue.NAME like '%issue%'";
    Could any one tell me where is error in my code
    Thanks

    It is unlikely that NPE was raised on
    String WhereClause = " EmIssue.NAME like '%issue%'";
    It's more likely that NPE was thrown from
    Issue.setWhereClause(WhereClause);
    This would happen if Issue is null, which means that the findViewObject() method couldn't find a VO named "EmIssueView1". Make sure that the VO name is spelled corectly. Names are case sensitive.
    Thanks.

    I have gone thru almost all SDN blogs/thread ..I also tried to debug code as mentioned in thread..Error in Module Processing- java.lang.NullPointerException
    But unfortunately it never goes to that point...hence never updates Log.
    In audit log I am getting same message..
    2007-08-27 12:42:50 Error Attempt to process file failed with null
    2007-08-27 12:42:50 Error Attempt to process file failed with java.lang.NullPointerException

    2007-08-27 12:42:52 Error Attempt to process file failed with java.lang.NullPointerException
    But could not find my Custom Message... There is any way by which I can check if its calling my Custom Module itself?
    There is any setting / parameters which we need to do on J2EE engine in order to activate call to custome module?
    Any help would be really appreciated.
    Nilesh

    It is strange, but in that document of yours it never says anything about the JNDI name in the ejb-j2ee-engine.xml file.
    Check this doc here:
    https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/go/portal/prtroot/docs/library/uuid/3bdc14e1-0901-0010-b5a9-a01e29d75a6a
    According to it, if you properly configure the ejb-j2ee-engine.xml file, then you'd call your module using "localejbs/<JNDIName>".

  • FTP Adapter : java.lang.NullPointerException

    Hi,
    I am getting a java.lang.NullPointerException when I try to use the FTP Adapter.
    The message monitor for the Adapter shows this:
    2006-02-27 16:48:57 Success File adapter receiver channel OMAF_PO_FTPS_Rcvr: start processing: party " ", service "OMAF"
    2006-02-27 16:48:57 Success Connect to FTP server "fintst", directory "/"
    2006-02-27 16:49:59 Error Attempt to process file failed with java.lang.NullPointerException
    2006-02-27 16:49:59 Error Exception caught by adapter framework: java.lang.NullPointerException
    2006-02-27 16:49:59 Error Delivery of the message to the application using connection AFW failed, due to: java.lang.NullPointerException.
    When I look at the J2EE logs, I don't see much more detail that might help me troubleshoot....
    #1.5#001185B7A4A7007500000BAC00002DB400040DC9804C00C5#1141058999161#/Applications/ExchangeInfrastructure/AdapterFramework/Services/ADAPTER/ADMIN/File#sap.com/com.sap.aii.af.app#com.sap.aii.adapter.file.XI2File.onInternalMessage(XMBMessage, String, IGUID, String)#J2EE_GUEST#0#SAP J2EE Engine JTA Transaction : [011ffffffc6320045b]###16a1e690a7b111da8272001185b7a4a7#XI AF XI2File[/OMAF/OMAF_PO_FTPS_Rcvr]##0#0#Error#1#com.sap.aii.adapter.file.XI2File#Plain###File processing failed with java.lang.NullPointerException#

    Now, given the message monitor output, I assume that the adapter was able to connect successfully to the target FTP server, and that the error is occuring during the writing of the file to the folder (or the conversion of the XML to  flat file).
    I have checked the conversion parameters. The exact same ones  work if I use the comm protocol as File System rather than FTP.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks and Regards
    Manish

    Hi,
      Have you set the read write and modify properties for your local ftp server for the corrosponding path, i mean i use guildftp for unit testing, and i need to specify these in the ftp server locally.
    That may be a reason why you get this, as you donot specify the autorixation to read the folder under ftp root.
    Also refer the file adapter faq: 821267  oss note

  • File send adapter error : java.lang.NullPointerException

    Hi All,
    I have an issue on some of the file sender adapter communication channels .The channels are failing with the error :
    Error :"Attempt to process file failed with java.lang.NullPointerException"
    This issue is happening for couple of file sender channels.When I try to stop and start the channels couple of times the failed messages are getting processed.And after the processing of the failed file, the new files are successfully polling as usual.
    Please share your experiences as on why this issue is happening and what is the permanent fix for the issue ?
    Thanks in Advance !
    Thanks & Regards,
    Roni

    Hi Roni,
       Try with a J2EE restart of the PI server. Hope that will solve your problem.
    Thanks,

  • XML Publisher report failing with java.lang.outofmemoryerror.

    Hi,
    We have developed a custom Oracle report that produces an XML output file that is about 13M in size (about 18K rows from the database). When running report as concurrent request, post processing fails with java.lang.outofmemoryerror. The failure occurs when specifying output format as Excel, RTF or HTML. However, the process completes successfully when specifying output format as PDF. We have also noticed that Excel, RTF and HTML will complete successfully if the XML data file is smaller (around 3M).
    Is anyone aware of a restriction on the size of the XML data file when specifying output formats Excel, RTF or HTML? We have tried setting temp directory but that has not helped.
    Thanks.

    Hi
    I found this at metalink [Note:390968.1].. hope it helps =)
    Symptoms: When attempting to run an XML Publisher concurrent program the following error occurs:
    ERROR: Warning!!! Got out of memory exception, retrying with scalable option..
    Exception in thread "main" java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: Java heap space
    Oracle.apps.xdo.oa.cp.JCP4XDODataEngine
    Program exited with status 1
    Solution: To implement the solution, please execute the following steps:
    1. Login select the responsibility: System Administrator.
    2. Navigate to Concurrent > Program > Define.
    3. Query for concurrent program that is receiving the error.
    4. In the 'Options' field please enter -Xmx512M.
    5. Save the change and retest the issue.
    6. If the report still fails with the option set to -Xmx512M change the value to -Xmx1024M, save and try again
    7. Migrate the solution as appropriate to other environments.

  • SQL Reporting Services with Java EE

    I have developed a Java application for calling the SQL Reports. A couple of reports are made in the server. This SQL Reporting server is deployed and the client is made in the java using Werb services. Whenever a search is done from the Java application, reports are displayed on the JSP page using the web service methods. But the problem is the entire report is displayed. Is there any way to display the report based on the particular item search. Suppose, if search is made on "Australia" in the coulumn Country, the report should contain only Australian related data. Currently the search is based on the report name itself.

    This looks hopeful.I have already developed a java EE for calling reports with the help of ---"MSDN Virtual Lab: Implementing SQL Server Reporting Services with a Java Enterprise Edition (EE) Application (ID:1032315323)". Now I need to find out the parametrized reports(passing parameters to the report calls and more customization using java). In .NET, reportviewer controller is available for this purpose. I want to achieve the same type of thing using java.The protocol of controlling the Report Server is a feature of the Report Server.
    To control it you learn the protocol. To use it you program it in java.
    The first has nothing to do with java. The second obviously does.

  • Using SQL reporting services with java

    how can i use Microsoft SQL Server reporting services with java? The idea is that we create the reports using Microsoft SQL Server reporting services. Then we have our web application where user will select one of those report, pass 0 or more arguments and then we will show the report.

    nobody is using Microsoft SQL Server reporting
    services with java?Found this in 0.01 seconds with Google http://www.javaworld.com/javaworld/jw-01-2005/jw-0110-sqlrs.html
    Handy tool that Google.
