Requerying MS Access table?

Hi,
Ok, I got my insert statement to work now using a preparedstatement. I noticed now that my JTable doesn't reflect the new record unless I stop and restart my application.
I'm using a JTabbedPane and adding a class that extends AbstractTableModel on one tab. On another tab I have a JPanel with my controls for inserting a record.
I setup a ChangeHandler and add it to the listener of the JTabbedPane, this detects when I switch tabs. If the current tab is my table tab I set the tableModel = null and rebuild it. This seemed the best approach. When I do this I get an SQLException from the tableModel.getValueAt() method saying the result set is closed.
Here's what I think is the pertenant code (let me know if you want to see something else):
private class ChangeHandler implements ChangeListener
public void stateChanged( ChangeEvent e )
if ( tabbedPane.getSelectedIndex() == 0 )
tableModel = null;
buildResultTable();
} // end if
} // end method stateChanged
} // end private inner class ChangeHandler
public void buildResultTable()
// create TableModel
tableModel = new MyTableModel( dbConnection );
try
tableModel.setQuery(
"SELECT date, odometer, trip_meter, no_gallons FROM records ORDER BY date desc" );
} // end try
catch ( SQLException sqlException )
JOptionPane.showMessageDialog( null, sqlException.getMessage(),
"Database Error - buildResultTable", JOptionPane.ERROR_MESSAGE );
} // end catch
// create JTable delegate for tableModel
resultTable = new JTable( tableModel );
resultTablePane = new JScrollPane( resultTable );
} // end method buildResultTable
public void setQuery( String query ) throws SQLException, IllegalStateException
// ensure database connection is available
if ( !connectedToDatabase )
throw new IllegalStateException( "Not Connected to Database" );
// specify query and execute it
resultSet = statement.executeQuery( query );
if ( resultSet == null )
System.out.println( "Query didn't work!" );
// obtain meta data for ResultSet
metaData = resultSet.getMetaData();
// determine number of rows in ResultSet
resultSet.last(); // move to last row
numberOfRows = resultSet.getRow(); // get row number
// notify JTable that model has changed
fireTableStructureChanged();
} // end method setQuery
public Object getValueAt( int row, int column ) throws IllegalStateException
if ( !connectedToDatabase )
throw new IllegalStateException( "Not Connected to Database" );
// obtain value at specified REsultSet row and column
try
resultSet.absolute( row + 1 );
return resultSet.getObject( column + 1 );
} // end try
catch ( SQLException sqlException )
JOptionPane.showMessageDialog( null, sqlException.getMessage(),
"Database Error - getValueAt", JOptionPane.ERROR_MESSAGE );
} // end catch
return ""; // if problems, return empty string object
} // end method getValueAt
I'm new to Java so I'm sure there's a better way to do what I'm trying to do. Any ideas where I went wrong or a better way to do it? Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
Linn

Ok, I got my insert statement to work now using a
preparedstatement. I noticed now that my JTable
doesn't reflect the new record unless I stop and
restart my application.MS Access? That question is asked every week here.
Here's an instance I picked at random from a forum
search for "access insert":
http://forum.java.sun.com/thread.jspa?forumID=48&threa
dID=348300Yeah, I thought it would be a common issue but I've spent the better part of three days going over google searches for this answer but no luck yet. Probably just haven't found the right combination of search terms yet.
I checked that forum thread you suggest and it, like all the others I've found, don't actually answer the question. They all seem to end with someone asking the original poster for more information and that's the end of the discussion thread.
Maybe if I rephrase the question, here's what I'm doing...
I query Access and build a JTableModel from a resultset.
I insert a new record into Access.
I switch over to Access and see that the record is inserted, Access shows that the insertion worked. (I switch tasks in Windows without quiting out of my Java app.)
I switch back to my Java app. and look at the table and the inserted record is not there yet.
So, what I'm thinking is that I need to "requery" the Access database and the new record should be included. My question is, how do I do that? How do I requery or refresh my resultset?
Oh, let me mention that I open the database connection and setup statement and resultset objects when I launch my app. and close them when I exit the app.
If I simply try to requery the database it throws an sqlException in the getValueAt() method of my TableModel extension class.
sqlException: Result set is closed is the message and is thrown by the line resultSet.absolute( row + 1 ); Here is the getValueAt() method code:
public Object getValueAt( int row, int column ) {
// obtain value at specified ResultSet row and column
try {
resultSet.absolute( row + 1 );
return resultSet.getObject( column + 1 );
catch ( SQLException sqlException ) {
sqlException.printStackTrace();
return ""; // if problems, return empty string object
} // end method getValueAt
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Linn

    Hi,
    It seems that your configuration is Ok. By the way, the workaround for this error is:
    ORA-28500: connection from ORACLE to a non-Oracle system returned this message:
    [Transparent gateway for ODBC][H001] The environment variable <HS_FDS_CONNECT_INFO> is not set.
    * Set HS_FDS_CONNECT_INFO in the hs{sid}init.ora file to the data source name.
    Example: HS_FDS_CONNECT_INFO = <ODBC DataSource Name>
    * Make sure the hs{sid}init.ora file exists in the ORACLE_HOME/hs/admin directory and has the same name as the SID in the LISTENER.ORA.
    Example: If SID=hsodbc in the listener.ora file, then the hs{sid}init.ora file would be named ORACLE_HOME/hs/admin/inithsodbc.ora

  • Loading MS Access Table and Data into Oracle

    Hi,
    I have few tables in MS Access. I want to create same layout of tables in Oracle and want to populate data from MS Access tables to Oracle tables.
    Please let me know if there is a way by which I can create tables and load data automatically (thru some option or script)?
    I have Oracle 10g database and its clients.
    Thanks in advance,
    Rajeev.

    You can use Oracle migration workbench
    Loading MS Access Table and Data into Oracle
    It´s very easy to use and good to import

  • Accessing tables from different schema in CDS and AMDP

    Hi All,
    We are working on a HANA system which has several schema replicated from SAP R/3/Non SAP systems. We have BW 7.4 SP9 deployed on the same system and accessing the HANA views using latest BW virtual objects such as Open ODS , Composite providers etc.
    We are also using the BW system for few ABAP based data processing developments. We are currently accessing HANA views in ABAP programs by creating dictionary views based on external HANA views.
    We would like to however use recent possibilities of CDS and AMDP for better life cycle management of ABAP based solutions. The open SAP course on this subject was of very good help. Thanks a lot "open SAP team" for that. I would however have few open questions,
    As I understand AMDP gives us full flexibility of writing sql procedures within ABAP development environment, but can we access tables from different schema into AMDP code. If yes, then sample code would help.
    If the answer of first question is yes, then how do we manage transports between development and production systems where the schema names would be different. Currently in open HANA developments, such transport is manged using Schema mapping.
    Can I also use different schema tables in CDS views.
    We are updating few tables in ABAP dictionary after applying processing logic in ABAP program as detailed in step 1. With the new approach using AMDP, can we directly update database schema tables which will give us an optimization advantage.
    New ABAP HANA program interfaces are quite promising and we would like to use them to optimize many data intensive applications.
    Thanks & Regards,
    Anil

    Hi Anil,
    I can only answer 1. and 2. (and would be interested into 3. as well):
    1.
    Yes you can access tables from a different schema and also HANA views. In this case no 'using' is needed.
    Examples:
        RESULT = SELECT
        FROM
              "SAP_ECC"."T441V" AS t,
              "_SYS_BIC"."tmp.package/AFPO" AS a.
        WHERE ...
    2. In this case, if you need schema mapping: You could use HANA (projection) views which just forward to a different schema, also see example.
    Best regards,
    Christoph

  • Regarding Provisioning a user to Database Access Tables

    Hi,
    I've just completed with the installation of OIM 9101 and upgradation of 9101 to 9102. I'm facing a bit wierd. When I try to create a GTC for the Database Access Tables, I'm not able to see Database Access Tables option, in the drop down list for the Transport Provider.
    I'm a bit confused if I've wrongly upgraded the system or if at all i've missed out some step. Though OIM seems to be ok and working fine.
    Any suggestions as to how to solve this ?
    Regards
    Nikhil

    This Error seems to occur because I was trying to attach certain pre-prop adapters within the default process form that is created while installing the connector. Roaming around the threads here, I came to know that this might be the problem as pre-props don't work fine when applied to the GTC's default form.
    To overcome this problem, I've thought of a solution wherein I should create a new Custom Process Form and then apply my pre-props. But for this approach, I'm stuck into the middle. How can I apply a new Custom Form to an existing Provisioning Process ? Is this fesiable ? If yes, where should the changes be made ?
    I tried changing the Table Name inside the GTC's provisioning process so that GTC can pick up the my new process form instead of its default process form, but that again gives an error saying :
    com.thortech.xl.orb.dataaccess.tcDataAccessException: DB_READ_FAILEDDetail: SQL: select err_key, err_code, err_desc, err_rowver, err_remedy, err_count, err_last_occurance, err_action, err_help_url, err_severity from err where err_code='DOBJ.UPDATE_FAILED'Description: Got a null connectionSQL State: Vendor Code: 0Additional Debug Info:com.thortech.xl.orb.dataaccess.tcDataAccessException
    I hope the scenario is clear to you and i'm able to explain upto the mark .. :(
    Kindly help me out..

  • How to access tables/views of an external database provider..

    After much trouble I finally managed to setup a second Database Provider that doesn't display the "0 out of 0 connections are good" error by filling in the "Configuration Class" field with "intradoc.server.DbProviderConfig".
    But now the problem is actually accessing the tables/views in my newly configured external database provider...
    In the Configuration Manager applet when I try to add a new Table or View it only lists the tables contained in the schema of the SystemDatabase database provider (the original one), I've tried running Queries via components trying stuff like SELECT * FROM provider_name.table_name and other similar but obviously it doesn't work...
    So... with that said, I just want to know how I access tables or views in my "supposedly" well conected (15 out of 15 connections are good, no errors on the Test Query) Oracle external Database Provider - After searching I was unable to find any information regading any post-provider-setup actions in the Content Server documentation - Does anyone know how to do this?
    On a side note, if the database is SQLServer instead of Oracle, with the same configuration and apparently no errors on the database side (other clients access it well) the Query Test of the new database provider returns the following error:
    "The provider 'TestSqlSrv' is in error. Unable to create database connection for JDBC:ODBC:SqlSrv. Unable to create result set for query 'select * from dummy'. Invalid Fetch Size Unable to create result set for query 'select * from dummy'. Invalid Fetch Size java.sql.SQLException: Invalid Fetch Size".But I won't even go there yet.... for now I would settle with just knowing how to reference information in the Oracle external database provider...

    if you are able to, pick up Bex Huff's book the Definitive Guite to Stellent Content Server Development (amazon link: http://www.amazon.com/Definitive-Stellent-Content-Server-Development/dp/1590596846/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1196365101&sr=8-1)

  • Using Interactive Report with SQL query accessing tables via db link

    Is there a known issue with using the interactive report in version 3.1.2.00.02 with SQL that is accessing tables via a database link? I get the error 'not all variables bound', I do not get this error when using the standard report for the same SQL?

    Hello Friends,

    From PROD accessing DEV table x using dblink

    I have a development and production env.

    Trying to access the developement table from production using the following command say to access table x
    From PROD accessing DEV table x using dblink
    select * from x@mylink ;You are trying to execute the query in PROD database. This query uses a DB link which points to the DEV database.
    Very simple to understand : Since you are using the DB LINK in PROD database, obviously it should be in PROD area... right?
    Just imagine you are using an object (the 'DBLINK') in PROD and it doesn't exist here. Got it?
    SELECT * FROM x@mylink;
    Here,
    x -- table in DEV database
    mylink -- DB LINK in PROD database (pointing to DEV)
    Please try this.

  • Linking Access tables, creating a query with using both Access and Oracle

    Hello,
    I am using 3.0.04.34 version Oracle Developer. I am supposed to create a script/procedure to use both Access tables and oracle tables together. There is an option in developer to copy the access tables into oracle. But it doesn't help me. Because when we updated the access tables
    the copied ones are not be updated. How can I created a linked access tables to oracle and create a query with using both access and oracle table together.
    I will appreciate if you guys help me. I look forward to hearing from you guys.
    Thanks,
    Pinar

    Pinar,
    to be able to query MS Access tables in Oracle you need an additional product, the Oracle Database Gateway for ODBC. It allows you to link any foreign database into an Oracle database using a suitable ODBC driver. You can then access the MS Access tables through a database link based on the Database Gateway for ODBC. This will also allow you to join local Oracle and remote MS Access tables from your Oracle database.
    There's a note on My Oracle Support which gives you more details:Document 233876.1 Options for Connecting to Foreign Data Stores and Non-Oracle Databases - For example - DB2, SQL*Server, Sybase, Informix, Teradata, MySQL
    And there's also a dedicated Forum: Heterogeneous Connectivity

  • How to access tables in another workspace (same server) ?

    This one is probably simple, but I can't figure it out : we have different applications in different workspaces but on the same server : how I can simply access tables (read only is enough) in a different workspace than the application ?
    Edited by: JJ MAHE - Oracle on Mar 18, 2013 2:07 AM

    Hello
    If you need access to oracle schema, the schema needs to be assigne to desired workspace. You can configure it in INTERNAL Workspace. One Oracle schema can be assigne to many workspaces.

    well it could be managed by simple HTML tags or simple javascript properties and events itself...
    All you have to do is encode URL and pass it as the request parameters to the next page.
    Checkout a simple example down below.
    MainTable.jsp:
    ============
    <table>
    <thead>
    <tr>
    </tr>
    </thead>
    <tbody>
    <c:forEach var="DTOBean" items="${request.dbList}">
      <tr>
         <td><c:out value="${DTOBean.rowId}"/></td>
         <td onClick="window.location.href='/testpage.jsp?col2='+escape('<c:out value="${DTOBean.col2}"/>')+'&col3='+escape('<c:out value="${DTOBean.col3}"/>'); " ><c:out value="${DTOBean.col1"/></td>
        <!-- or try with to work with simple hyperlink
          <td><a href="# " onclick="window.location.href='/testpage.jsp?col2='+escape('<c:out value="${DTOBean.col2}"/>')+'&col3='+escape('<c:out value="${DTOBean.col3}"/>');"><c:out value="${DTOBean.col1"/></a></td>
        -->
          <td><c:out value="${DTOBean.col2"/></td>
          <td><c:out value="${DTOBean.col3"/></td>
      </tr>
    </c:forEach>
    </tbody>
    </table>
    --------------------------------------------------testpage.jsp:
    ==========
    Column2 : <c:out value="${param.col2}"/>
    Column3 : <c:out value="${param.col3}"/>
    --------------------------------------------------Hope that might help.
