Resolving J2EE classes in Eclipse

Hi,
Sorry if my post was inappropriate for this forum. I'm lost as it is... forgive me...
I'm trying to learn how to use the Eclipse IDE with J2EE. As I was coding in the editor window I noticed that code assist was complaining about my reference to J2EE classes. It could not resolve my imports or declarations.
I already added the j2ee.jar and jsf-api.jar under the Libraries. This is found in the Project>Properties>Java Build Path. I also downloaded the 1.4.1 source and attached them to the libraries. But still no go.
Could someone explain what I'm doing wrong, or give steps on how to go about doing this? I've been trying to search the web for Eclipse IDE help forums but couldn't find any. I want to get this ball rolling already.

Cannot resolve symbol class graphics

does anyone know what the error

Cannot resolve symbol class Scanner (Error)

For whatever reason I get the error message "cannot resolve symbol class Scanner" when trying to run this:

The Scanner class is in the JDK version 1.5 or later. You must be using an earlier version.

J2EE classes can't be found

Hi,
I have a JMS client running on J2EE. When I launch my application through JWS, I get a "java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: javax/jms/Message". It seems that the J2EE classes are not found. Can anyone help me with this. Thank you very much. Need help ASAP.

Are you sucessfully running jms with jws now?
I am using JBoss so I use the jboss/client/jbossall-*.jar file but the messages published are not being picked up by my JWS JMS client. All works running without jws. Any tips?

I want to see if/where these design patterns are used in j2se/j2ee classes/interfaces. i am looking for few examples of standard java classes/interfaces/cases where these design patterns are used by jdk developers.
for e.g.
WindowAdapter class is an example of Adapter DP.
JOptionPane is an exmple of Facade DP.
MouseListener is an example of Observer DP.
Similarly, where can find examples of jdk classes/interfaces of the remaining DPs.
I searched a lot of books, but they explain the DPs by creating their own classes/interfaces.
I would like to see where these DPs are already utilised in std j2se/j2ee

Then you can get the sources for the jdk and go through the classes yourself, identifying the patterns.

Running Console App (Class) from eclipse?

Evening All,
I'm just starting my venture into the java world and hit my first problem. [just incase you need to know: developing in Eclipse 3.4 (EE setup) - on windows]
I have a single class that uses: Console c = System.console();
now this returns back null when I run it in eclipse (because it's a java console in a java console maybe?)
from the command line I can do:
java -cp J:\JavaBegin\MyProject\bin com.mydomain.userio.Passwordand it runs perfectly
thus I need to know how to either:
a:] change the "run"/"run external" button in eclipse to basically open cmd.exe and run the class automatically (ie do the above at the click of a button)
b:] (ideally) simply run the class in eclipse as per usual but with io support

eclipse does have it's own console however the class needs user input from the keyboard and this doesn't work in the eclipse console.. here's the complete code (c+p and try it, you'll see what I mean)

Access of MySQlL Driver class by eclipse but not from Outside Jar file

I have done a standalone application having access with MySQl database.
I could access it when i execute it from eclipse. But when i export it into Jar file and running I get MySQL Driver class not found exception.
Give me a better solution for this issue.

CLASSPATH, CLASSPATH, CLASSPATH.
You have defined the Eclipses Project Library Path to include the MySQL jar, but ar not including it on the classpath when executing the jar.
Either modify the MANIFEST.mf file in the jar to include a reference to the MySQL driver jarfile or call java in the following manner
java -cp /full/path/to/MySQL/Driver/jarfile.jar -jar yourJarFile.jarObviously, if this is on Windows and you are executing through a double click, the first option is the best option.

How to resolve preverifying class exception while building

I am new to J2ME, i am getting preverifying class exception when ever building a application using Wireless Toolkit 2.1, JDK1.5, CLDC 1.1.
actually i need to run web application on mobiles (PDA), can any one suggests how to resolve the above exception and what are the jar files required in classpath.

Then leave it as it is. If the method doesn't throw the exception it is not a problem.
If you need to throw the exception in some rare cases, then throw RuntimeException. It is not required to declare such exception in interface.

Need help in resolving J2EE Deployment SPI error BEA-260101

I have a portal application (ear) currently working on weblogic 10.2. I upgraded my project to 10.3 using workshop, then made an ear and deployed it on 10.3
The following error is being displayed on 10.3.

Error: "Could not resolve [public class] to a component implementation

Here's another clueless newbie question! :-(
I define a public class "DynamicTextArea" at the top of the file, and get the compiler error message "Could not resolve <DynamicTextArea> to a component implementation" at the bottom of the same file.
Clearly, I don't understand something very basic.
(The code between the commenrted asterisks was originally in a separate package file, which I couldn't get either mxmlc or FlexBuilder to find, so rather than fight that issue now, I moved it into the same file.)

    As you've noted, there were multiple misunderstandings.
    Some are due to references in the language which are different from uses in pre-existing languages.
    Take "name spaces". They look like URLs but they're not. One of the first errors I made when starting Flex was to try to browse to http://www.adobe.com/2006/mxml. I figured that it would have some description of the language. But it didn't. In spite of LOOKING like a URL, it doesn't point to anything; it's really just an arbitrary magic incantation, like "Open Sesame".
    But, then when I wanted to use my OWN namespace, I find that it's NOT arbitrary, and does have to point to something, but it's still not a URL. The "AHA" moment was when Michael told me that "*" means "look in this directory for a file with the name later named in an import statement, but not named here". And if the file was in subfolder "X" I'd have to use "X.*", while if it were a URL I'd use slash instead of dot, but never an asterisk.
    When the language syntax is so contrary to the expectations of people coming from a declarative language or web programming background, I think it is important to explicitly address the differences and disabuse them of their preconceptions. I think the same should apply to the ways in which ActionScript differs from ECMAScript.
    Another problem adding to my confusion is the habit of naming variables with the names of keywords but with capitalization changes. Not only does that set readers up for subtle "gotchas", but makes it unclear which names are truly arbitrary, and which are required by the compiler.
It might be a good idea to have a convention of an identifiable format for user variables. Many authors use names like myButton for that purpose.
    It would also be helpful if printed text could simulate the syntax coloring of the better editors, or at least have more in-source comments saying exactly what each line does. (Or both)
    Another aid to understanding would be to provide a reference to the alternative (MXML or AS) way of doing anything, whenever you demonstrate one of the ways.
    I find that the emphasis on using FlexBuilder distracts from a sense of what is really going on behind the scenes. E,g.: If FlexBuilder automatically sets up the folder structure, I don't learn to do it myself. I like to work at the code level, so when something goes wrong I don't have to worry about what level it went wrong at.
    Also, not everyone is willing to drop $600 or $250 BEFORE they've learned whether they even like Flex. Your tutorials are, by definition, addressed to newcomers who may well not yet have committed to the expense of FlexBuilder. So more emphasis on using mxmlc would be nice. It would also be helpful to discuss how to use local servers, like Tomcat, during the development stage.
    Thanks for asking my opinion. I'm afraid that my 40 years of programming experience may make it harder for me to adapt to this new style of programming than it would be for a kid with a tabula rasa. But, it looks like it'll be fun once I get over the hump!

Could not find the main class in Eclipse

Hey,
I've been working with Java for a few years now, but I recently set-up a new Eclipse-environment and now my Application won't run...
"Could not find the main class. Program will exit."
If I compile and run the source myself it works fine, so it must be a setting in Eclipse somewhere...
It doesn't work, even when I put the class in the default package...
It must be something very stupid, but I can't seem to find out what the problem is :(

Attempting to compile a servlet on Apache Server using same jdeveloper jdbc libraries:
classes12.jar & nls_charset12.jar
Error message:

Enter this code into your program and then put the Oracle jar file that contains the driver in your run-time classpath.

}The effect of this is that the classloader will load the Oracle driver for you then call it's static initiailizer that does a bunch of magic that results in the Java runtime knowing that there's a JDBC driver out there.
It is a little weird - but that's the way it works.
