Restful: Child lov with parent prompt

I have 2 dimensions, Parent and Child. The list of values of the Child dimension contains a prompt on the parent. With restful, I want to the the list of values for the child dimension. I've created a webi document with a prompted filter on the Child dimension. So I have 2 prompts one the webi document, one from the Child dimension and one from the list of values of the child dimension.
A call GET http://{hostname}:6405/biprws/raylight/v1/documents/{documentID}/parameters/{parameterID} for the child prompt returns the expected xml:
<lov hierarchical="false" refreshable="true">
<id>UNIVERSELOV_DS0.DO4</id>
<parameters>
<id>0</id>
</parameters>
</lov>
where 0 is the id of the parent dimension
I then use the resful call PUT http://{hostname}:6405/biprws/raylight/v1/documents/{documentID}/parameters/{parameterID} to answer the parent and the child's lov.
When the prompt on the parent in the list of values is not optional, everything is fine but when the prompt is optional, I get the error :
Bad Request WSR 00102 - Illegal argument (Suspicious identifier(s): [0])
In both case, I use the input xml (with true or false value for optional attribute of parameter):
<parameters>
     <parameter optional="true|false">
          <id>0</id>
          <answer>
               <values><value id="10" >Parent 10</value></values>
          </answer>
     </parameter>
     <parameter>
          <id>1</id>
          <answer>
               <info><lov><query intervalId="0" intervalSize="10000" /></lov></info>
          </answer>
     </parameter>
</parameters>
If I use the refresh="true" attribute to the query tag, I don't get any value for the child lov only:
<lov hierarchical="false" refreshable="true">
<id>UNIVERSELOV_DS0.DO4</id>
</lov>
Any ideas?

Eric,
I hope it's not an issue but an invalid input XML.
I just made some good progress. The restful documentation states that "The <info> element is not mandatory in the XML inputs, except in the case of cascading parameters and hierarchical parameters.", so I surround the values tag by a info tag and it almost works in both cases (mandatory and optional parent prompt). The XML input is
<parameters>
   <parameter>
      <id>0</id>
      <answer>
         <info>
            <lov>
               <query intervalSize="-1" />
            </lov>
         </info>
         <values>
            <value id="1">Parent 1</value>
            <value id="3">Parent 2</value>
         </values>
      </answer>
   </parameter>
   <parameter>
      <id>1</id>
      <answer>
         <info>
            <lov>
               <query intervalSize="-1" />
            </lov>
         </info>
      </answer>
   </parameter>
</parameters>
But one problem solves, one problem raises. When a answer no parent value (<values></values>), I get in return of a PUT call, the same result as a GET call:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" standalone="yes"?>
<parameters>
    <parameter dpId="DP0" type="prompt" optional="false">
        <id>0</id>

                    <value id="1">Parent 1</value>
                    <value id="3">Parent 2</value>
                </previous>
            </info>
            <values>
                <value id="1">Parent 1</value>
                <value id="3">Parent 2</value>
            </values>
        </answer>
    </parameter>
    <parameter dpId="DP0" type="prompt" optional="true">
        <id>1</id>
        <technicalName>pmChild(ren)?</technicalName>
        <name>Child(ren)?</name>
        <answer type="Text" constrained="true">
            <info cardinality="Multiple">
                <lov refreshable="true" hierarchical="false">
                    <id>UNIVERSELOV_DS0.DO3</id>

                <value id="21">Child 21 - 2</value>
            </values>
        </answer>
    </parameter>
</parameters>
Nevertheless, I get a workaround for this situation, instead of not answering the parameter, I have to answer all possible values. It's not a nice solution and I hope a better one exists.
The results are the same with
http://{hostname}:6405/biprws/raylight/v1/documents/{documentID}/parameters/{parameterID}/
and with
http://{hostname}:6405/biprws/raylight/v1/documents/{documentID}/parameters/
except, of course that when using first url, the return xml contains only one parameter (the one in the url)

  • Window.open always opens a child window with parent window propertiesin firefox 30

    By clicking on a link my code uses window.open which should open the response in child window. I am not specifying any height and width(as per requirement). In firefox alone, the window takes up the properties of child window and opens with same size as of parent window. Is there a way to restrict Firefox from inheriting the properties of parent window?

    Hi prajulakc,
    Thank you for your question. Currently the active window selected when you create a new window that new window will take the active window's screensize.

  • SQL to align child values with parent columns

    Hi everyone,
    I'm stumped on how to develop an sql query that generates a report where my child values are aligned with my parent columns based on matching years.  Here's the example...
    create table test_yr (yr_id number primary key, yr_nb number);
    insert into test_yr values (1,2013);
    insert into test_yr values (2,2014);
    insert into test_yr values (3,2015);
    create table test_parent (parent_id number primary key, parent_yr_id_begin number, parent_title varchar2(100));
    alter table test_parent add foreign key (parent_yr_id_begin) refererences test_yr (yr_id);
    insert into test_parent values (1,1,'This rec starts in 2013');
    create table test_child (
         child_id number primary key,
         child_parent_id number,
         child_yr_id_begin number,
         child_title varchar2(100),
         child_yr1_val number, child_yr2_val number, child_yr3_val number, child_yr4_val number, child_yr5_val number
    alter table test_child add foreign key (child_parent_id) references test_parent (parent_id);
    alter table test_child add foreign key (child_yr_id_begin) references test_yr (yr_id);
    insert into test_child values (1,1,3,'This rec starts in 2015',10,20,30,40,50);
    insert into test_child values (2,1,3,'This rec starts in 2015',15,25,35,45,55);
    The child can start at a different begin year than the parent, making yr1 for parent and yr1 for child different.  So for this example, year 1 of the child (2015) = year 3 of the parent.
    I can get the values strictly from the child using the following...
    select child_yr1_val, child_yr2_val, child_yr3_val, child_yr4_val, child_yr5_val
    from test_child
    where child_parent_id = 1;
    However, I need the report to be based off of the first five years of the parent.  And since the child doesn't start until 2015, the first two years should be zero.  Here is the expected result:
    yr1 | yr2 | yr3 | yr4 | yr5
    0   | 0   | 10  | 20  | 30
    0   | 0   | 15  | 25  | 35
    I'm trying to do this using plain sql without having to use pl/sql to derive a dynamic query.  But I need to somehow match up and align the years... such as in this example, yr1(child) = yr3(parent), yr2(child) = yr4(parent), etc.  I'm hoping some joins and case statements will do the trick, but I don't quite know how to utilize them to get the result I need.  Can anyone help?  Oracle 11gR2.
    Thanks,
    Mark

    Hi Frank,
    Thanks so much for your reply!  I'll try to digest this solution and implement it this weekend.  I also agree completely about the table design...  I know apps shouldn't drive database design,  ...
    If you get indigestion, feel free to ask questions here.
    The SELECT ... PIVOT feature isn't very convenient for dealing with missing values.  You may prefer to change the main query like this:
    WITH unpivoted_child AS
        SELECT  child_id, child_parent_id
        ,       child_yr_id_begin + child_yr - 1   AS column_num
        ,       val
        FROM    test_child
        UNPIVOT (    val
                FOR  child_yr  IN ( child_yr1_val  AS 1
                                  , child_yr2_val  AS 2
                                  , child_yr3_val  AS 3
                                  , child_yr4_val  AS 4
                                  , child_yr5_val  AS 5
        WHERE   child_parent_id  = 1
    SELECT    NVL (SUM (CASE WHEN column_num = 1 THEN val END), 0)  AS yr1
    ,         NVL (SUM (CASE WHEN column_num = 2 THEN val END), 0)  AS yr2
    ,         NVL (SUM (CASE WHEN column_num = 3 THEN val END), 0)  AS yr3
    ,         NVL (SUM (CASE WHEN column_num = 4 THEN val END), 0)  AS yr4
    ,         NVL (SUM (CASE WHEN column_num = 5 THEN val END), 0)  AS yr5
    FROM   unpivoted_child
    GROUP BY  child_parent_id
    ,         child_id
    ORDER BY  child_parent_id
    ,         child_id
    Also, if you want to see how SELECT ... PIVOT works, this can help show you.
    Having 5 separate columns for input can be very conveninet, just like having 5 separate columns for display.  But, as you said, that shouldn't drive the table design.  If necessary, you could create a view that has 5 separate val columns, like your current table, and write an INSTEAD OF trigger for user input.

  • Updating child table with parent table

    Can anyone help me with this update statement?
    I have a table BETA with children of the family list and I have table GAMA with children and family list. The relation between family and children is 1 to many. Now we have decided to update table BETA which has children list with table GAMA’s family list. So I did as below.
    UPDATE beta B
    SET (b.childe_code
       ,b.childe_name) =(SELECT DISTINCT g.family_code

           AND g.period = (SELECT MAX(period) FROM gama g));It is giving this error: ORA-01427: single-row subquery returns more than one row
    Could someone please help me with this?

  • Apex 4 Cascading LOV's how to set a child LOV back to null return value

    Hi,
    My problem is I am using the new Dynamic Actions to implement Cascading LOV functionality in Apex 4 which means not having to submit the page to update child LOVs after parent LOV changes.
    What I am finding is that when you change the parent LOV value then the child LOV (which has a null return value) is not defaulting to the null return value (in my case no selection should return -1) if its list is filtered to a different set of values which doesnt have a valid selection. The child LOV is left without a selection when I need it to default back to the null return value (-1, representing all values).
    Also I was hoping to do this before the page is submitted so the filtering down the hierarchy of LOVs will work where the child is null (-1, meaning all values) and in turn its child LOV(s) will filter also from the null child value.
    Any help would be much appreciated.
    Thanks

    Hi 804641,
    I'm not sure if I get your problem and I tried to reproduce it.
    http://apex.oracle.com/pls/apex/f?p=2672:6 is my example with a cascading LOV where I have also defined a dynamic action which fires when P6_EMPNO changes and it shows the current selection.
    Maybe it helps if you setup an example on apex.oracle.com and provide the workspace/user/pwd so that I can have a look. I'm also not sure about your sentence "using the new Dynamic Actions to implement Cascading LOV functionality", because dynamic actions are not needed for cascading LOVs. It's a feature of the item types themselves where you just have to set the "Cascading LOV Parent Item(s)" attribute.

  • Select List (Parent/Child) LOV

    I have the Easy Oracle HTML-DB book, they give an example of a
    Parent Child Select List using a query.
    Does anyone know how to apply the Parent/Child relationship with
    a List of Value generated from a table.
    Example
    Parent Child
    Car Pontiac
    Car Buick
    Car Cadillac
    Car Nissan
    Truck Tahoe
    Truck Silverado
    Truck F150
    Truck Titan
    The parent(s) in the above example are Car/Truck, the children are in the adjacent column.
    Objective: When the parent "Car" is chosen, only the "Pontiac/Buick/Cadillac/Nissan" will be available, once the child is selected,
    wish to submit to a empty table that can grow dynamically.
    OS: Windows: XP
    Oracle ver.: 10g
    Apex ver.: Release 2

    Hi,
    are you just having one table storing all the values?
    1) Create a "Select list with Submit"
    2) Lov query would be something like
    SELECT DISTINCT
           CAR_TYPE AS D
         , CAR_TYPE AS R
      FROM WHATEVER_TABLEThe distinct is only because you have mixed your parent and child values in one table instead of having two separate tables with a FK from the child to the parent.
    3) Create another "Select List"
    4) Lov query would be something like
    SELECT CAR AS D
         , CAR AS R
      FROM WHATEVER_TABLE
    WHERE CAR_TYPE = :P2_CAR_TYPE-> in the where clause you restricting the second lov with the value the user has selected in the first select list.
    The first "Select List with Submit" will trigger a full page refresh when you select a car type. If you want to avoid that you can use the AJAX based "Cascading Lov" feature of my ApexLib Framework (see http://apex.oracle.com/pls/otn/f?p=33231:4 ) or search on the forum for "cascading lov ajax" for other similar solutions.

  • APEX 4.1 dynamic parent child LOV

    Is is possible to create a dynamic parent child LOV? I want to be able to use information populated by a user on a form to become a select list on a subsequent form where the second field (child) is dependent on what is selected on the first field (parent). The list needs to grow based on data entered on the initial form and maintain the relationship.

    You should post this in the APEX forum.

  • Cascading LOV does not work when setting the value of the parent LOV with DA

    Hello All,
    Using APEX 4.2.2.
    I have tow LOVs
    Parent LOV item is: P50_TYPE
    Child LOV item is :  P50_PROJECT_ID
    In other words in the attributes of the item P50_PROJECT_ID we have :
    > Cascading LOV Parent Item(s): P50_TYPE
    > Page Items to Submit: P50_TYPE
    > List of values definition: something similar to:
    Select * from mytable where type = :P50_TYPE
    I use DA that execute JS code to set the value of the P50_TYPE item
    something similar to:
    > $('#P50_TYPE').val(2);
    Having done this, the P50_PROJECT_ID item does not get refreshed, when the value of P50_TYPE is changed. Namely, P50_PROJECT_ID remains empty, unless end user manually changes the value of P50_TYPE.
    Any help please ?

  • Query Help with Parent, Child, Child's Child

    Hi all,

  • Data transfer B/W parent windonw and child window with out java script

    hi ,
    i am using h:outputLink Tag to open child window , i am unable to pass parent window text box value to child window with out java script , Here i am using two different backing beans for parent and child windows . Plz help me .

    Hi -- I pass details between pages regularly. The following has worked for me:
    ApplicationFactory factory = (ApplicationFactory) FactoryFinder.getFactory(FactoryFinder.APPLICATION_FACTORY);
    ValueBinding binding = factory.getApplication().createValueBinding("#{beanName}");
    BeanName beanProperty = (BeanName) binding.getValue(FacesContext.getCurrentInstance());
    ... then set the you can set the values. Can't recall if I need to use SaveStates for the items. Probably if you use request scope beans.

  • Insert Record with Parent/Child Tables doesn't work with Oracle - unlike AC

    Hi,
    I just Migrated a MS Access 2010 Database to an Oracle 11g Backend with the SQL Developer Tool.
    The Migration went fine, all the Tables and Views are migrated.
    I'm working with MS Access as Frontend.
    The application has some Datasheets with Subdatasheets with Parent/Child Relationship. (1-n Relationship)
    After changing to Oracle, it's not possible, to Insert a new Record in a Subdatasheet I always get the following Error Message:
    "The Microsoft Access database engine cannot find a record in the table 'xxxx' with key matching field(s) 'zzzzz'"
    It used to work perfect with the MS Access Backend, do I need a trigger which first adds the child Record ?
    Or what should I do?
    Thank you

    Hi Klaus,
    Thanks for your answer. I still haven't solved my problem. The only way would be to use a singel 1:n Relationship, but in fact I need a n:m Relationship.
    I tried the same scenario with a new Access Application, same result.
    To clearify my problem.
    Goal: Parent Form with Parent Records, Linked Child Form with Child Records in a Datasheet View => Insert of a NEW Child Record.
    I have 3 Tables (table1 = Parent tabel, table2 = Child Table, table12 = n:m Tabel with PK and two FK)
    The Recordsource of the Parent Form is Tabel1
    The Recordsource of the Child Form is Table2 joined with Table12.
    In my Old Access Project, Access Triggered the Insert and filled Table12 with the NEW PK of Table2.
    It seems like Access can't do that anymore....
    I'm pretty desperate and I'm sure it is just a litte thing to fix.....

    Hi Leo,
    Did you configure closure table? http://www.rittmanmead.com/2010/11/oracle-bi-ee-11g-parent-child-hierarchies-multiple-modeling-methods/
    Also make sure to perform the hierarchy changes in offline mode.

  • Session expiration issue with parent and child window

    Hi,
    We have two applications (App1 - Implemented using JSF, Spring and Hibernate and App2 -Implemented using Spring MVC, Spring JDBC).
    I have implemented 'Test Access Content' functionality in App1.
    First admin user (Role- Manager) needs to login to App1
    As part of 'Test Access Content' functionality, he enters URL with encrypted key and click 'Test Access' button.
    It opens new window (implemented using java script - window.open) and hits spring controller of App2.
    In spring controller of App2, I am decrypting the key to get user details. After that i am setting user details in session, constructing final URL to display actual content.
    Problem is parent window maintains session till child window renders response. Once child window renders response, parent window loosing session.
    So, if i click any button in parent window after child window renders response, it displays login page as there is no session for parent window.
    Please note that App1 and App2 are sharing same domain. only context paths are different for both apps (app1 and app2).
    Any suggestions on this issue are much appreciated. Please let us know if you have any questions.

    Hi,
    When you open a child window from parent window then you can access child data in the parent window through javascript.
    We have a main web page. There are quite many links on it from which >user can open new web pages but the data is saved when the submit >button on the main page is clicked. Also data that user entered on the >other sub pages is not displayed in the main window.
    1 is this a case of parent and child window.case 1 When you are submitting the main page you need to run javascript function and get data from child windows and save that to database or session. next time when you are displaying the main window you need to query session or database to display the child window data in the main window.
    Case 2> closing child window and you need data in the parent. This can be done in two ways.
    1> When you are closing the child window populate some variables of the main window using javasript.
    2> Save the values in the database or session and refresh the main window and extract data from database or session
    Where should the data be saved that user enetered on the sub pages as the data is not shown in the main page - should it be stored in the session?It is design decision. You can store data in either session or database when you are closing the child window. But ifyou are saving the data on the main page then you can populate main page with child windows data using javascript. Save the data t database when main window data is saved. Depends on business requirements.
    In short if you are saving child windows data in session or database then you need to refresh main screen to pull that data otherwise populate main screen using javascript.
    I hope i answered your questions :) best of luck

  • TFS 2010 Branching - Is it possible to create a child branch with latest version of specific code alone from parent branch?

    Hi,
    QUERY:
    I've  'MAIN' code base as parent branch.
    From 'MAIN' parent branch, I need to create multiple child 'Development' branches (Dev1, Dev2,etc..) for consecutive releases.
    I don't want Child branch creating with entire code from Parent branch. i.e Each DEVELOPMENT branch should not be a full branch of MAIN.
    Is it possible to create child branches with specific code from Parent.
    For example:
    MAIN  -> Parent branch contain Project1, Project2,...........Project10.
    DEV1  -> Child branch which contains Project2 and Project3 alone.
    DEV2  -> Child branch which contains Project2, Project5, Project6, Project7, Project8 alone.
    NOTE:
    I'm trying to create a 'Basic branching Plan' to maintain the Source Code in TFS, for consecutive release with concurrent development.
    i.e
    MAIN   <--- FI & RI ----->  Dev1, Dev2, Dev3
    MAIN  <------- RI alone ---| Release1, Release2, Release3
    I'm new to TFS, please advice for the above mentioned branching specific query.
    Also, if possible, please suggest me the best branching strategy according to my need.
    Regards,
    Riswan Babu

    Hi Riswan,
    It's unavailable to branch a folder or team project partly, it always copying the same source code from its parent when you create a branch in your team project. For you requirement, you might try the methods below to see if it works for you:
    1. Since the DEV1 and DEV2 have different, you can have two folders(like MAIN) in your team project and each folder include the projects/solutions you need. No need to create two branches that include different projects
    2. Create two branches from Main, and delete the additional projects that you want to keep. Then develop with the branches separately.
    3. Or create the branches from Main but keep all the content, just modify the projects you need in each branch. The difference will merge back in root branch if you need to merge back finally.
    For release, you can create sub-branches from the two branches you created as you requirement. And you can check the links below for more information about branching and merging:

  • Union on tables with parent-child records and Sorting

    Hi,
    I have an application that has an existing query which returns org units (parent and child) from organization table with a sort on createddate +  org_id combination
    WITH Org_TREE AS (
    SELECT *, null as 'IS_DELETED', convert (varchar(4000), convert(varchar(30),CREATED_DT,126) + Org_Id) theorderby
    FROM Organization WHERE PARENT_Org_ID IS NULL and case_ID='43333'
    UNION ALL
    SELECT a1.*, null as 'IS_DELETED', convert (varchar(4000), a2.theorderby + convert(varchar(30),a1.CREATED_DT,126) + a1.Org_Id)
    FROM Organization a1 INNER JOIN Org_TREE a2 ON a1.PARENT_Org_ID = a2.Org_Id and case_ID='43333'
    SELECT * FROM Org_TREE order by theorderby
    I have created a new log table for organization 'Organization_Log' with exact columns as Organization table with an additional 'IS_DELETED' bool column.
    Questions:
    I need to modiy the query,
    1. To display the parent and child records both from the organization table and organization_log table.
    2. the sort on the result should be based on 'Organization Name' column asc. First with parent org and the child org underneath it. For eg.
    aaa
    ==>fff
    ==>ggg
    bbb
    ==> aaa
    ==> hhh
    Any help on how the query should be constructed?
    Thanks
    gkol

    @Visakh16,
    I am getting...
    All queries combined using a UNION, INTERSECT or EXCEPT operator must have an equal number of expressions in their target lists.
    The problem is that you will have different number of columns in both log and Organization and Organizationlog tables. UNION/UNION ALL expect the same number of columns.
    Try the below:
    WITH Org_Log_TREE AS (
    SELECT Organization_name,Org_id,Parent_Org_id, IS_DELETED, CAST(Organization_Name AS varchar(max)) AS theorderby,1 AS level
    FROM Organization_Log WHERE PARENT_Org_ID IS NULL and case_ID='43333'
    UNION ALL
    SELECT a1.Organization_name,a1.Org_id,a1.Parent_Org_id, a1.IS_DELETED, CAST(a2.theorderby +'/' + CAST(a1.Organization_Name AS varchar(1000)) AS varchar(max)),a2.Level + 1
    FROM Organization_Log a1 INNER JOIN Org_Log_TREE a2 ON a1.PARENT_Org_ID = a2.Org_Id and case_ID='43333'
    ) ,Org_TREE AS (
    SELECT Organization_name,Org_id,Parent_Org_id, NULL AS IS_DELETED, CAST(Organization_Name AS varchar(max)) AS theorderby,1 AS level
    FROM Organization WHERE PARENT_Org_ID IS NULL and case_ID='43333'
    UNION ALL
    SELECT a1.Organization_name,a1.Org_id,a1.Parent_Org_id,NULL AS IS_DELETED, CAST(a2.theorderby +'/' + CAST(a1.Organization_Name AS varchar(1000)) AS varchar(max)),a2.Level + 1
    FROM Organization a1 INNER JOIN Org_TREE a2 ON a1.PARENT_Org_ID = a2.Org_Id and case_ID='43333'
    SELECT * FROM Org_Log_TREE
    UNION ALL
    SELECT * FROM Org_TREE
    ORDER BY LEFT(theorderby,CHARINDEX('/',theorderby + '/')-1),Level
