Restore 9i Database to Another Server but Same Database Name

hi experts,
This is 9i on Windows.
I want to restore my RMAN backup from production server to my test server.
I know the db names have to be the same for RMAN to work.
Can I restore from my full backup -- test server, then change the db name on the test server? The database name on test needs to be different to prevent someone from accidentally connecting to test but thinking it is production.
Is this possible to do?
Again, 9i on Windows.
Thanks, John

Hi piontkdd
I do this in 9i all time, without using duplicate.
General idea:
Copy rman backups to test server
create dummy init.ora with production database name.
if you want, SET NEWNAME for different filesystem and restore datafiles.
Recover database. Open database.
alter database rename global_name to 'whatever'
shutdown and then mount. use nid.sh to change the DBID and Database name (Can't remember how you do this on windows). shutdown and set up your new spfile/init.ora and change your services with oradim.exe
could you elaborate the same steps i have the scenario to make sure my production database works fine in case of any disaster , on the production machine itself i have to restore database.

I have a 2008 vintage iMac with 2.8GHz processor and recently upgraded to  OS X 10.9.5.  Soon after theupgrade the mail system started switching the senders address to another address, but same user name.  How do you fix this?

Thanks for the reply,.  I went to the site provided and executed the directions but this did not solve the issue.
    Even more details:
If I send a message to the Jane Doe address from another account on this machine (all my family uses the same email services provider and each have accounts set up on this machine), when you open it, it shows Jane Doe then the <applejax.xx> address AND the picture associated with the Apple Jax account.
So the problem shows up when the message is sent to this account from this machine, AND when it is sent from this machine from this account.  No other accounts on the machine are effected.
I have sent and received email messages from the mail service provider's website, and everything is fine.

  • Coying Database to another server

    Dear All,
I want trying to copy database to another server but i got error
    Login failed for user 'domainName\ComputerName$'
I already use domain administrator to both of server and already create user login in both server.
Both of the login is domain administrator and same user for the server. I use SQL Server Standard Edition 2008 R2.
How can i fix this error?
    please help
    Best regards,
    Surbakti

    Hi Surbakti,
According to your description, if you copy a local database to a remote SQL Server via the copy database wizard, we need to verify if the SQL Server Agent Service account does have sufficient access
rights to the remote server. See:
    Use the Copy Database Wizard
Usually, I suggest the better option is to perform the full backup of the database and then copy the backup file manually to remote computer. Once done, restore the database from this backup file on
    remote computer.
There is detail about move databases between computers that are running SQL Server instance.

  • Query for UDT over different Databases on another Server

    Hi,
i want to use via query an UDT from another Database on another Server...
nomal Tables can be Used like this:
    select* from [SVR-Name].Database.dbo.OITM
But if I try the same for an UDT:
    select* from [SVR-Name].Database.dbo.[@UDT]
    it doesn't work.
Does anyone have an Idea for me ?
    Thx.
    Markus

    Thx for your replies,
a query over different Databases on the same SQL-Server is no problem.
... but I want to select an UDT which is on another SAP-Server (other location) in a different Database.
    Servername = SVR
    Database = LIVE
    UDT = [@portfolio]
    select * from [SVR].LIVE.DBO.[@portfolio]
    doesn't work.
(normal query to reach OITM for example:
    select * from [SVR].LIVE.DBO.OITM
    works fine !!

  • Connect to a oracle database in another server

    Hi people,

  • Import data into database on another server

What is the syntax to import data from a .dmp file on another server into a database on a different server? Do I just use
    imp scot/tiger@nextdb parfile=params.dat
I do not have enough space on the other server to hold the large import file. Even a compressed file give a 'no space left on device error', so I want to just issue the import command on the other server. Is that possible?

Yes it is possible and the example you provided is enough if you want to import the data in nextdb.
But, consider network bandwidth, since all data that has to be imported must go thru the network. This can make import process much slower.
One more thing to consider! You have mentioned there is not enough space on your destination site for the dump file. If that is the case, make sure that you have enough space for the data that has to be imported.
See how much free space you have in the target tablespace and the target location in order to be sure that there is enough space for the data.

  • Move Public Folders Database to another Drive on same server - Exchange 2010

Hello all and thanks for your time and expertise.
We recently added a new drive to our Exchange 2010 server.  I've moved all mailboxes including arbitration mailboxes to this new drive (and new mailbox database).  I guess the last remaining step is to move the public folders databse to this new
drive.  I know in the console I can move the database path and the log files path for the public folders database.  Is this all I have to do to move my public folders successfully.
And then once everything is moved - can I safely remove the old mailbox database?
Your help and recommendations are greatly appreciated.

    Mike,
I moved the public folders database and received the following message:
    "Summary: 1 item(s). 1 succeeded, 0 failed.
    Elapsed time: 00:00:16
    Public Folders
    Completed
    Warning:
The task completed successfully, but the database "Public Folders" cannot be restored.
The exception message is "An Active Manager operation failed. Error: The database action failed. Error: Unable to mount database 'Public Folders'.
The database appears to have been mounted at least once since its creation,
but there is no database file at 'C:\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\V14\Mailbox\Public Folders\Public Folders.edb'. Either recover the database file from a backup,
or mount the database with a new, empty database by using the Mount-Database cmdlet with the -Force parameter.. [Database: Public Folders, Server: *******.***]".
    Exchange Management Shell command completed:
    move-DatabasePath -Identity 'Public Folders' -EdbFilePath 'g:\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\V14\Mailbox\Public Folders\Public Folders.edb' -LogFolderPath 'g:\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\V14\Mailbox\Public Folders'
    Elapsed Time: 00:00:16"
I blanked out the server name.
After I clicked off this message I remounted the public folders database and everything relative to the public folders seems to be working fine.  Did this message occur because exchange was trying to mount the public folders database from its old location
and so I can safely move on with my life.  Just wanted to double check with you.
And once everything has been moved from the old mailbox database such as user mailboxes, arbitration mailboxes - can I safely remove the old mailbox database.  Thanks for your help.

  • Migrating master database to another server (DR testing).

So I was tasked to do some DR testing, by moving one of our environments to another.  I was tasked with moving 1 user database called Vant, master, and msdb.  I managed to accomplish it, but it wasn't easy and a little messy.  I'm looking
to see if you guys can help me clean my steps up a bit.
    Environment backgroud.
Both environments are SQL Server 2012 Enterprise
    Build: 11.0.3368
    Instance Name: Default
    Process
I took all 3 backups from my source server and placed it in a network location where my destination server can access.
    1) I began by trying to restore master database by placing my instance in single user mode, backup restored.
    2) when I removed the destination instance from single user mode, the service would not start, did this a couple of times, but no luck.
3)I also made sure the startup parameters were pointing to the right folder location
4)Then I thought, maybe it was the folder location where it restored to, that was causing the problem because they were different; so I went ahead moved master into a folder location that would match the source, i also changed the startup parameters, but
    the instance still wouldn't start
5)So then I checked the event logs, and noticed that SQL Server was looking for databases that were on the Source Instance, as well as some of the system databases that I hadn't moved the files to the new folder location
6)Restored the original master database from the destination server so that I could get the service going
    7) moved all the system databases from the old folder location on the destination server to where master now resided; created two empty databases with the names the event log was looking for.
8)Restored master database from source server, and the service finally started up
9)When I went into SSMS, I noticed that the two empty databases I created were in recovery pending
    10) dropped one of the databases I didn't need, and restored the Vant database, as well as msdb; everything looks good.
So there it is, I totally don't feel good about this.  I don't like the fact that the databases came up in "recovery pending" and also that I had to create the databases it was looking for before I could restore and start up the service, but
maybe that's just how it is.  Any advice you can give me on how to clean this up would be much appreciated.

    Hi,
Did you reffered to Microsoft doumentation on how to move system databses.
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms345408(v=sql.110).aspx
For user databse backup when you restore on different server you use with move option to physically give location to mdf and ldf files.
Moving system database is little tricky

  • Must Move 10g Database To Another Server

    Good morning,
Well, right in the middle of my implementation, I've learned that we must change to a different physical server for the 10 g database. Wonderful.
I have installed several patches. Will a consistent backup of the db capture those patches? After I restore to the new server, will I have to reinstall all patches?
Don't most patchsets modify the Oracle instance as well as the database?
    Thanks, John

Have you tried the clone features? On DBCA, there is a clone database option. If you use Enterprise Grid Control, they have a clone database from one server to another and you can choose different instance name and different file structure. This has the additional benefits of no need to bring down the current database. Also you can try the clone.pl to clone the oracle_Home. I have not tried one with patches but I guess it will include every thing under ORACLE_HOME. It will handle most but I still have trouble with the data control setup but then I recreate everything from scratch

  • How to move a database to another server

Hi - I am new to Oracle and am used to SQL Server. In SQL Server there was a DETACH and ATTACH DATABASE command that would allow you to make a copy of a database and all structures including triggers, procedures, indexes etc. Make a copy and reattach the database on the new server. I assume that the same is possible in Oracle but I can't seem to find the equivilent command(s). So how does one move a database? I take it that the SQL Server equivilent to database is in Oracle called a schema? Other than creating a sql script for each object, is there a overall process to move my application?

You could do one of the following:
    1) Create a full export, create a another database with a script or DBCA, create the appropriate sized tablespaces, import to the new database.
    2) If you are copying to the same OS you could shutdown the database, copy all the datafiles, logfiles, control files, etc. to the appropriate locations, rename the datafiles, control files, etc. as needed, and open the database.
    3) Use RMAN to duplicate the database if it has been backed up using the RMAN utility.
    4) If you already have a backup of all the datafiles, logfiles, control files, etc. from a backup you could copy those to the appropriate locations, rename the files as needed, and open the database.
I would suggest changing the database name. I can go into more detail on any of these if needed.

  • How to connect to a MySQL database in another server

    Dear friends,
I am using Oracle SQL Developer 1.5.3 and I need to connect to a MySQL database located in another server.
I am trying to create a new connection, informing connection name, username and password. Supposing that "Hostname" is the IP server address, I click on "Choose database", but I always receive the following error message: "Status : Failure - Cannot connect to MySQL server".
Please tell me what I should do to solve this situation. Thanks in advance.
    Best regards,
    Franklin

You need to configure your mysql database to accept connection from your PC for the user you used.
    For example,
    GRANT ALL ON *.* TO 'someuser'@'somehost';
    FLUSH PRIVILEGES;

If you mean to have both simultaneosly set on the same OS session, of course that's not possible. But you can configure them on your profile, and choose them when needed. The following is an excerpt from my .bash_profile
    export EDITOR=vi
    umask 022
    alias O='cd ${ORACLE_HOME}'
    o10()

  • Oc4j starting with Oracle Database & oc4j App Server on same machine

Hi ALL, can anybody help me(pls read this)
This is Sagar, i have created a GIS Application(java) using Oracle 10g.
    Senario I:
oc4j server and oracle 10g Database Server on different machines:
When i start oc4j server with NO. OF Mappers = 64 or 30 in DNS using
    1. oc4j -start (normally)
from the path c:/oc4j/bin by setting ORACLE_HOME path normally
application is working fine but when users are increased say 4 to 5 oc4j server gives error:
    java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: Java Heap Space
I searched for this error i found a solution for starting oc4j as follows:
    2.Java -Xmx1024m -Xms1024m -jar oc4j.jar
    from the path c:/oc4j/j2ee/home --- oc4j.jar
Then map & application works fine and fast since heap space is increased to 1GB (speed is noticable)
    but if...(in other senario)
    Senario II:
oc4j server and oracle 10g Database Server on same machine:
if step 2: is used form above senario, oc4j Server does not gets started only it gets initialized...(server does not gets started)
but Step 1: is used application works fine but again heap space error as mentioned above is seen.
Again if changes are made in oc4j.cmd file in c:/oc4j/bin ....by giving the heap space command oc4j works fine but the application(performance) is very very slow but heap space error is not seen.
Please can any body suggest the solution.. application should work fast and also the heap space should be increased but taking the senario - oc4j App Server & Oracle 10g Database Server on Same machine..

    Hello,
How much RAM do you have on the machine? What is the size of the SGA for the database you are using?
if step 2: is used form above senario, oc4j Server does not gets started only it gets >initialized...(server does not gets started)What do you mean by this? Provide the output from the server when you start your server.
