Hi ,
I have One Production and one logical standby database .
Due to tape problem we are unable to take backups of promary . And due to businness , we cannot take back up on disk in hot period(Bank database ) .
Can anyone tell me , if i take logical standby database backup(level 0 ) using RMAN , then will i be able to restore it on production dtbs (In case Production down) ? .
Logical standby is in sync with primary .

No. http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E11882_01/server.112/e25608/rman.htm#SBYDB4848 says:

Note:
Backups of logical standby databases are not usable at the primary database.

I am not able to restore spfile from rman backup ;;;Hi,
I would like to know few things
1. How are you setting the db_name ? you can set db_id at RMAN, how are you setting the db_name ?
2. Do you have any default init file at default location ? if yes, is the db_name parameter set correctly in that file ?
Since spfile is yet to be restored, you must set the db_name parameter correctly before you start spfile restore.This can be done with init file at default location which can even contain just one paremeter i.e db_name. -
Is it possible to restore TSM/ADSM RMAN backup pieces to disk manually?
Is it possible to restore TSM/ADSM RMAN backup pieces to disk manually, and re-catlog as disk backups?
Oracle 10.2.0.3
TSM client 5.5.1.1
SUN Solaris 10 64-bit
We are gearing up to switch from IBM's Tivoli (TSM/adsm) to EMC's Networker (Legatto), and the old TSM software drivers are going to be uninstalled.
In a worse case scenario, we would therefore not be able to easily restore using RMAN and TSM just after the switch, and before new backups are made on Networker.
To be comfortable with the backup methodology change, we need to explore restoring the RMAN backup pieces of a given tag using TSM commands (dsmc ?) to a filesystem, re-catalog the backup pieces now on disk, and then perform test restore/recoveries using RMAN with disk channels.
Does anyone know of the TSM command (dsmc ?) to perform the restores of RMAN backup pieces?
Thanks!This is a set of guesses and thoughts.
1: When you say you are removing the Tivoli software drive, is this just the driver from the oracle home, or is it more substantive. In fact could you have a different oracle home to access tivoli, possible with a rman catalog copy.
2: I dont believe the backup tag is part of the filename, however is it possilbe to query the rman catalog to get the filenames mapped to a tag?
3: Providing you know the filenames you wish to restore then it is possible to browse the tivoli catalog. Its ages since I've done this but doesn't samc have at interactive mode
Apologies if these suggestions are rubbish and hopefully someone gives a better answer. -

Can we restore oracle 11g RMAN backups to 10g server
Hi,
I have RMAN backups (full backup)of oracle 11g database. My server was suddenly crashed due to hardware failure.
We have another Oracle 10g server. Is it possible to restore RMAN backups of 11g database to Oracle 10g server???
ThanksI don't have 11g server ready with me. The other server running oracle 10g and I dont have rights to install oracle 11g on the 10g server. So I can not test the RESTORE/RECOVER commands.
If anyone had experience in the past, please let me know whether we can RESTORE RMAN backups of 11g database to oracle 10g server...
Thanks -

Restore single instance rman backup to rac database
Hello all. I have a 10gR2 single instance database that I have been taking backups using the oracle's suggested backup strategy, that is, once full database backup and incremental backups here and there. That's is all fine as I have (many times) being requested to rollback the database resulting in all operations being sucessfull.
However, since this is somehow a pre-certification database, I am now being tasked to restore this database to what is going to be our production database, which is a 10gR2 rac database. I have already set up the RAC database sucessfull.
Now, my question is: How can I take one of the backups that I have on the single-instance database and restore onto my RAC database ?
Some information about the infraestructure:
Both operating systems are HP-UX. Single instance is 11.23, RAC database is 11.31.
Both database are using ASM as datafiles storage and flash recovery area storage.
Any help will be appreciated!
Thanks!In general terms, there are several ways you can convert a single instance into a rac intance, and it involves much more activities than just adding redo threads.

rconfig utility
Considering your case, if you don't currently have Grid Control, the first option is rconfig.
1. Migrate your database from the current environment to the target environment by a regular cloning procedure, this will create a single instance into your rac environment. Your regular rdbms rac installation allows you to manage both, single instance and rac instances. Use this procedure to clone your database to the target RAC environment using recovery manager --> http://madrid9999.googlepages.com/rmancloneadatabase
2. Once you have started your database in the RAC environment proceed with the rconfig tool, this requires some files to perform the conversion, the ConvertToRAC.xml file which is located at $ORACLE_HOME/assistants/rconfig/sampleXMLs
3. Once you copied/edited the ConvertToRAC.xml file, you have to run the rconfig. Save the ConvertToRAC.xml under a different file name.
rconfig editedConvertToRAC.xml
4. For further reference on the rconfig command, you may refer to this page Oracle® Real Application Clusters Installation Guide

Logical Standby recover with RMAN
Hi All,
I have a test environment with Primary DB Server, Physical Standby and Logical Standby.
The Logical Standby DB (cur_log_stdb) is backed up every evening by RMAN and I have a question:
If I recover my Logical Standby DB from backup and switch replication to new Logical Standby DB (new_log_stdb) it will work or not?
My steps e.g.:
1. Make a new server for my new_log_stdb and repair structure of catalogs;
2. Repair listener.ora and tnsnames.ora files from cur_log_stdb to new_log_stdb;
3. Restore DB with RMAN from backup to new_log_stdb;
4. On cur_log_stdb execute "alter database stop logical standby apply";
5. Change a DNS name from cur_log_stdb to new_log_stdb;
6. On new_log_stdb execute "alter database start logical standby apply immediate";
I'm not sure that archivelogs will apply to the new_log_stdb for period since rman backup was created.
But if this plan won't work how can I restore Logical Standby DB from RMAN backup and resume replication from Primary?
Configuration:
Oracle Linux 6.4
Oracle Database 11.2.0.3
Primary and Physical with Data GuardHello;
The only way to know for sure is to test it. You are asking somebody you don't know to confirm a recovery test for you. You have to perform the test yourself to be certain.
If your plan does not work you can always rebuild the Standby.
Best Regards

Rman restore from last week backup
Hi guys
i need to restore last week rman backup from .. we are not using catalog database.
i need to restore it on same machine with diff mount point ..
i know i can use tag option of restore specifically last week backup but its production restore so thought if anybody can give me list of steps i need to follow .. anybody who has done this before.
do i have to fire resetlogs at the end as its incomplete recovery .. i need last saturday backup .. don't want monday backup on top of it.
please help me in this.
RegardsYou have to ensure that your controlfile, redo log file and database file locations are different from your production database.
Ensure that your instance parameter file specifies a different location for control_files
Use db_file_name_convert -- however, I prefer to explicitly name a new location for each datafile, in case your database files are spread across multiple directories and you miss one or more in db_file_name_convert. (you don't want RMAN to restore datafiles from the backup to the current locations and overwrite your production database files !)

Restore database to another host - I have only rman backup files
Hi all,
The PC where Oracle was installed is crashed.
I have only the RMAN backup pieces in other computer.
I want to restore/recover this RMAN backup to other PC.
I know the commands, restore database, recover database,
but I've always used these commands with rman into existing rman
user. Now, I don't have anything. I have only the RMAN backup files.
How can I restore/recover database to other PC using these files?
The steps are? create other database, create a rman user, register
the rman backup files in this new rman, and restore these files
in this new database already created with the same name?
thank you!!!!XM wrote:

Failed to restore site collection from development server backup on production server
I get an error as below while restoring development site collection backup on production site collection.
<nativehr>0x80070003</nativehr>
Looked into the log file shows below error.
"Microsoft.SharePoint.SPException: Schema version of backup 15.0.4641.1000 does not match current schema version 15.0.4569.1000"
However SP1 version installed on both server. Recently upgraded Development environment to 15.0.4571.1502 as production environment has exact same version. Run SharePoint Products Config Wizard successfully after upgrade on Development server.
Any help.
ThanksHi Trevor
Thanks for reply.
I am beginner in share point.
Getting below version in Development and Production Environment.
In the beginning
Dev environment has 15.0.4615.1001. Then we installed 15.0.4571.1502.
Production Environment has 15.0.4569.1506. Then we installed 15.0.4571.1502.
So now both versions looks exactly same. But somewhere it didn't upgraded fully. Backup and Restore works in the same server If applied but doesn't
work if I apply from Dev to Production Version.

Logical Standby Database and XMLDB
I couldn't find a proper group to post this message and thought I would try here.
I want to set up a Logical Standby Database for our production database server 9.2.0.4.0 with XMLDB. I am having problem with some system tables that were created when I registered some XML schemas.
These tables are in the standby database but Oracle complains the object does not exist.
Any idea?>
The "may be" is because I have tested flashback of a physical standby to before resetlogs, but not a logical standby.
>
A physical standby keeps the DBID of the primary - a logical standby does not. That is exactly the problem that restricts the reconversion into physical from logical, and you did not encounter that problem.
>
I haven't used "keep identity" but from what I read it relates to "convert to physical" not "flashback database".
>
Exactly. And that is what the OP wants to do: convert to physical (from logical).
You mentioned that this might be possible with flashback.
Problem: During the conversion from physical to logical, the DBID gets changed unless you specify (in 11g) KEEP IDENTITY. This would make it possible to reconvert into phyiscal from logical.
In short: If there is no solution for the changed DBID of the logical standby in order to flashback it into physical as you suggested, then it is not possible .
When I saw your first answer, I thought that you might have a solution in mind in order to solve that obvious problem. Sorry for having bothered you.
Kind regards
Uwe
