Retrieving array of objects using Named Query

Can i retrieve an array of objects using a Named Query? The execute query method of Session returns only an Object but not an array. Please let me know if there is any possibility.
Thanks in advance,

Hi,
You define a named ReadAllQuery query object, and after query execution, you can cast the returned Object as Vector, and further convert it to an array.

    Hi Pawan,
    What do you mean "It Not Working"? As Kamath said, please post the detail error message, so that we can make further analysis.
    In the Data Source View of a CUBE, we can define a named query. In a named query, you can specify an SQL expression to select rows and columns returned from one or more tables in one or more data sources. A named query is like any other table in a data source
    view (DSV) with rows and relationships, except that the named query is based on an expression.

  • How to list an array of objects using struts in jsp and ActionForm

    I am using the struts ActionForm and need to know how to display an Array of objects. I am assuming it would look like this in the ActionForm:
    private AddRmvParts addRmv[];
    But I am not sure how the getter and setter in the ActionForm should look. Should it be a Collection or an Iterator?
    I am thinking I need to use an iterator in the jsp page to display it.
    I am also wondering if the AddRmvParts class I have can be the same class that gets populated by the retrieval of data from the database. This class has 10 fields that need to display on the jsp page in 1 row and then multiple rows of these 10 fields.
    Thanks.

    Most probably the easiest way to make it accessible in your page is as a collection.
    ie
    public Collection getAddRmvParts()
    You can use the <logic:iterate> or a <c:forEach>(JSTL) tag to loop through the collection
    As long as the individual items in the collection provide get/set methods you can access them with the dot syntax:
    Example using JSTL:
    <c:forEach var="addRmvPart" items="${addRmvParts}">
      <c:out value="${addRmvPart.id} ${addRmvPart.name} ${addRmvPart.description}"/>
    </c:forEach>

  • Treat objects from named query as new ones

    Hello,
    I use TopLink 11.1.1.1.0 and I need to do following. I want to read object from database with named query and let TopLink treat them like new object created in java. Is it possible? Obejcts are in one table but the named query computes them with select from several different tables, so this obejcts are not present in the table.
    Why I need it? It is import of data from one module of our application to another. Previously it was done in java. About 500 000 objects were read in one module just to convert into 20 000 objects in another module. If database does this conversion (named query with grouping which reads the 20 000 objects) it is much faster and take much less memory.
    What I can do is to create new class with the same fields query this objects and then copy them to object I need. But I don't like creating new class just for this.
    Thank for any help
    Frank

    Thanks for help I solved it different way eventually. I made a stored procedure which inserts data to the table of SOURCE_ITEMS. First I call stored procedure, then I load all new created SOURCE_ITEMS with ReadAllQuery (I have business parameters by which to select them) and make post processing in java with them. I used StoredProcedureCall in TopLink so if exception occurs and transaction rollbacks, stored procedure will rollback as well (I tried it, works for sure:).
    StoredProcedureCall call = new StoredProcedureCall();
    call.setProcedureName(SQL_IMPORT_CALL);
    call.addNamedArgumentValue(SQL_IMPORT_PARAM_1, getId());
    call.addNamedArgumentValue(SQL_IMPORT_PARAM_2, getXXX().getId());
    call.addNamedArgumentValue(SQL_IMPORT_PARAM_3, getYYY.getId());
    call.addNamedArgumentValue(SQL_IMPORT_PARAM_4, getZZZ());
    DataModifyQuery query = new DataModifyQuery();
    query.setCall(call);
    query.setShouldBindAllParameters(true);
    // insert of imported SOURCE_ITEMS
    ctx.executeQuery(query);
    Thanks Chris and hope this will help to somebody else as well..

  • TopLink doesn't sort data received using Named query

    Hello!
    I'm trying to build a Tree table using a TopLink Named query in my application.
    There are Id, Parent|_Id, Code and Name columns in the corresponding database table, where Id and Parent|_Id are linked together by Foreign key (typical tree). I used TopLink to describe this table in the Model part of my application. There I wrote a Named query, without using a query constructor (not Expression radio button, but SQL radio button). Here the text of query:
    select * from regions a connect by prior a.Id = a.Parent_Id start
    with a.Id is null order by a.Code
    Then I created a Data control and tried to build a JSF page with data based on this query, as tree-table.
    But I discovered the fact, that data under the same node on the same leaf level of the Tree are not sorted by code on the JSF page. For example, data may be situated as follows (Code - Name):
    2. wwwwwwwwwwww
    2.3.kkkkkkkkkkkk
    2.1.fffffffffffffffffffff
    2.2.oooooooooo
    1. qqqqqqqqqqqqqqqq
    1. 2. lllllllllllllllllllllllllllll
    1. 1. hhhhhhhhhhhhhh
    etc.
    I verified this query on other environment (PL/SQL Developer, SQL+), but didn't found such unsorted results anywhere.
    Please, give me an advice to avoid this problem.
    Thanks.

    Hi
    Something to do with TreeMap(TreeSet). I tried with TreeSet but it didn't work. Here is the code :

    String lSQL = "";
    Statement lStatement;
    ResultSet lResultSet;
    Hashtable lLtypeHashtable = new Hashtable();

    lResultSet = lStatement.executeQuery(lSQL);
    while(lResultSet.next())
    String lRcid = lResultSet.getString(1);
    String lRcmeaning = lResultSet.getString(2);
    lLtypeHashtable.put(lRcid.trim(),lRcmeaning.trim());
    if(lResultSet != null) lResultSet.close();
    if(lStatement != null) lStatement.close();
    pRequest.setAttribute("LtypeHashtable",lLtypeHashtable);
    //Below Query is executed when one data from select element is selected
    String lLType = DisplayUtilities.getString(pRequest.getParameter("LType"),true);
    //LType is name of select element in JSP.
    if (lLType != null)
    lSQL = lSQL + " AND " + lUpperCaseFunction + "(LOCATIONTYPE)" +
    " = " + DBUtilities.formatString(lLType.toUpperCase());
    pRequest.setAttribute("rLType",lLType+"");
    In JSp :
    <%
    Hashtable lLtypeHashtable = (Hashtable)request.getAttribute("LtypeHashtable");
    %>
    <TR>
    <TD width="15%"> <div align="left">
    <select name="LType" size="1" >

    <%
    if(lLtypeHashtable != null)
    Enumeration enum = lLtypeHashtable.keys();
    while(enum.hasMoreElements())
    String key = (String)enum.nextElement();
    String value = (String)lLtypeHashtable.get(key);
    String flagBack = "";
    if(key.equals((String)request.getAttribute("rLType")))
    flagBack = "selected";

    <option Value="<%=key%>" <%=flagBack%>><%=value%></option>
    <%

    How should I implement TreeSet?
    Looking forward for an early reply.
    Thanks.

  • Snowflake dimension: named query vs. database view

    A test question features a Product table with a Product Size code; Product Size description is taken from ProductSize table. As far as I can tell, the question asks me to choose between (a) setting up a database view joining Product and ProductSize, and
    (b) doing the join in a data-source-view named query. I don't see a clear winner. (My thinking is as follows.  Yes, he view would speed up the processing, even if not materialized. On the other hand, with a small dataset, the performance gain would be
    minor in absolute terms. Do I want to have an extra database object in the picture?) Yet the question's author does. Can anyone advise please?

    Hi Demyan,
    According to your description, you want to know which is better, using named query in datasource view or using database view, right?
    Based on my research, there is no performance differences between using named query in datasource view and using database view because they both result in SQL query being sent to the source system. Here is a blog which discuss this issue.
    Consistency: If you already have logic in database views, I would continue to use them. As long as you know that you go to one spot to view/change the logic. Putting the logic in 2 different spots could lead to confusion.
    Security Permissions: often you may not have permission to alter the source databases, in this case you have no choice but to setup named queries in the dsv.

  • Named Query or Native Query

    Hello,
    I am using native query to search for results on my search page. A friend of mine just told me that I better use named query or the time to get my search results will be too slow.
    Does Named Query give you faster result than Native Query?
    Thanks in advance.
    Regards,
    Hemen

    When you define named queries (note that this is a Hibernate example) you can put them in for example XML,
    <query name="findItemsByDescription">
    <![CDATA[from Item item where item.description like :desc]]>
    </query>or a SQL query like
    <sql-query name="findItemsByDescription">
    <return alias="item" class="Item"/>
    <![CDATA[select {item.*} from item where description like :desc]]>
    </sql-query>You can call these queries by using the same code, for example,
    session.getNamedQuery("findItemsByDescription").setString("desc", description);This is what is being meant by sharing the same calling API.
    When taking about performance. You have to know something about what goes on under the hood.
    You have probably programmed something using straightforward JDBC, so you know how to queries
    get passed to the driver and send to the database. When using HQL or JPA-QL the queries first have
    to be parsed into an SQL language that the database can understand. In this case, we have an extra
    parsing step in between. Note that Native SQL queries, including stored procedure calls, the persistence
    framework still takes care of mapping the JDBC result sets to graphs of persistent objects.
    If you want to include a native SQL hint to instruct the database management systems query optimizer,
    for example, you need to write the SQL yourself. HQL and JPA-QL do not have keywords for this.
    The disadvantage of putting native SQL in your mapping metadata is lost database portability, because
    your mappings, and hence your application, will work only for a particular database. But usually this is of a
    minor concern as you are probably not creating a framework that has to work on every database.
    When you want to get behind the performance of your query, you really have to consult the database
    and look at the execution plan - A DBA can tell you exactly what is good and what can be optimized.

  • Passing an array of objects to a named query

    I'm trying to use a named query that will have a
    in() expression operator (clause) to retrieve a set of objects.
    The in() operator requires an array of objects to pass in.
    Specifically I want to pass an array of BigDecimal of unknown size.
    The query looks like that:
    ExpressionBuilder seq = new ExpressionBuilder();
    Expression exp = seq.get("id").in(keys);
    ReadAllQuery query = new ReadAllQuery();
    query.setReferenceClass(RegistrationNumberSequencer.class);
    query.addArgument("keys");
    query.setSelectionCriteria(exp);
    And the "keys" would be:
    Object[] keys = new Object[2];
    keys[0]= new BigDecimal(1);
    keys[1]= new BigDecimal(2);
    I have got a conversion exception(Could not convert to BigDecimal class) when executing the query.
    Can I pass this array as a parameter somehow ?
    Thanks a lot
    Ovidiu

    Hi Ovidiu,
    My apologies for the missed code. You need to pass the vector of elements into another vector, so TopLink will interpret the single element of the second vector as the correct query argument, and expend the elements in the first vector into the IN clause.
    The named query defined I sent in previous mail is still correct, but you need to pass in the argument like:
    Vector keys = new Vector();
    keys.addElement(new BigDecimal(1));
    keys.addElement(new BigDecimal(2));
    Vector arg = new Vector(1);
    arg.addElement(keys);
    Now you can pass the arg in when executing the query, and should get the correct result.
    To stand my claim, I did a mini test using our TopLink Employee demo and here is the generated SQL:
    Call:SELECT t0.VERSION, t1.EMP_ID, t0.L_NAME, t0.F_NAME, t1.SALARY, t0.EMP_ID, t0.GENDER, t0.END_DATE, t0.START_DATE, t0.MANAGER_ID, t0.START_TIME, t0.END_TIME, t0.ADDR_ID FROM EMPLOYEE t0, SALARY t1 WHERE ((t0.EMP_ID IN (1, 2)) AND (t1.EMP_ID = t0.EMP_ID))
    You can see the IN clause in generated as expected!
    As Doug said, we do not officially support array as query argument yet. I would use the proper way to build the query.

    How do you retrieve a Collection of objects using JDBC.
    MORE INFO:
    I have created a class i.e. Account class and I want to retrieve all the accounts previously created for accounts in my Mysql database..
    my method would retrieve an array of Account instances in the database i.e.

  • How to write named query if we want to use IN syntax in our sql statement?

    I cannot find a suitable category about named query, so please move to appropriate place if there is any.
    When we write named query, below statement is fine.
    Query q2 = em.createQuery("SELECT o FROM Table1 as o WHERE field1 = :input1");             q2.setParameter("input1", "value1");
    Now, my question is, how can I write this type of query when we want to use the IN sql syntax? As below statement CANNOT return correct results. Even I tried to put a pair of single quote [ ':input2' ], it won't help also.
    Query q2 = em.createQuery("SELECT o FROM Table1 as o WHERE field2 IN (:input2)");             q2.setParameter("input1", "3633, 3644");
    Can anyone suggest? Thanks.

    Then you do it the same way as with regular jdbc/sql.
    1. You start with a collection of values - call it collection A.
    1. Create a for loop that dynamically creates the string using 'bind' variables (whatever you want to call the 'colon' entity in the above).
    2. Call the createQuery method using the string that was created
    3. Create a second loop that iterates over A and populates with setParameter.
    Pseudo code
            Object[] A = ...
            String sql = "SELECT o FROM Table1 as o WHERE field2 IN (";
            for (int i=1; i <= A.length; i++)
                  if (i == 1)
                     sql += ":input" + i;
                 else
                     sql += ",:input" + i;
            sql += ")";
            Query q2 = em.createQuery(sql);
            for (int i=1; i <= A.length; i++
                  q2.setParameter("input" + i, A[i-1]);
                  }By the way there is a jdbc forum.

  • NOT Using Named Parameters in a Native Query

    Hi!
    like it is written in the Toplink JPA Extensions reference Toplink supports using named parameters in native queries.
    See example from http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/ias/toplink/jpa/resources/toplink-jpa-extensions.html:
    Example 1-11 Specifying a Named Parameter With #
    Query queryEmployees = entityManager.createNativeQuery(
    "SELECT OBJECT(emp) FROM Employee emp WHERE emp.firstName = #firstname"
    queryEmployeeByFirstName.setParameter("firstName", "Joan");
    Collection employees = queryEmployees.getResultList();
    But I want to use "#" in the SQL statement so I want to disable this parameter binding somehow and let the query just execute the SELECT statement I deliver.
    I have tried to add the property
    <property name="toplink.jdbc.bind-parameters" value="false"/>
    into the persistence.xml and I have also tried to add the query hint
    query.setHint(TopLinkQueryHints.BIND_PARAMETERS, HintValues.FALSE);
    but none of them prevents the # to be uses as a paramter. this causes the exception:
    Exception [TOPLINK-6132] (Oracle TopLink Essentials - 9.1 (Build b22)): oracle.toplink.essentials.exceptions.QueryException

    AS RCGC.PHA_COMPAS_SIMILAR_MATS ) )
    I am using the latest Toplink essentials build together with an Oracle 9.2i DB in a Java SE web application.
    Can anyone give me a little hint what to do?

  • Can't execute SQL Named query that uses connect by...

    I'm having problems using the connect by with ReportQuery.setHierarchicalQueryClause (detailed in earlier post) so I defined a named query to execute the following sql;
    select distinct(role_id)
    from role_principal
    connect by prior role_id = principal_id
    start with principal_id = #principalId
    When I run similar SQL in SqlPlus, i get results like this;
    ROLE_ID
    202
    500
    501
    502
    503
    But when I run the query using Toplink like this;
    Vector args = new Vector();
    args.add(principal.getId());
    roles = (Vector) session.executeQuery("orclGetRolesOfPrincipal", args);
    I get this exception;
    TopLink Warning]: 2005.10.05 10:58:14.362--ClientSession(18082301)--Thread(Thread[main,5,main])--Local Exception Stack:

    It seems to have a problem that there's not a parent record for role_id 202, which is a root level record and so should not have a parent.
    I appreciate any help that can be provided.
    Thanks,
    -Tim Watson

    Hello Tim,
    Not sure of the problem in the first post, but in this one, you are executing the query as a ReadAllQuery. The results only contain the role_id, but TopLink expecting atleast all the primary key fields inorder to build the objects to return them to you. Try executing this SQL in a report query instead, or set the results to return all the fields so TopLink can build the objects.
    Best Regards,
    Chris

  • Can a named query return a Vector of ReportQueryResult objects?

    TopLink experts,
    I would like to know if I can use the method executeQuery() defined in the Session interface to call a predefined named query, which returns a Vector ReportQueryResult objects rather than a Vector of a given domain class objects. If the answer is yes, then how?
    Many thanks for the help!

    I checked the available types of named queries from TopLink 9.0.4.5 Workbench and the ReportQuery type is not on the list. Only ReadObjectQuery and ReadAllQuery are available in its type dropdown list and both of these types would return an object of the descriptor (or say the domain class) where the named query is defined.
    How can I add a ReportQuery type named query to a descriptor in the Workbench? Please help!
