Return Date object from StoredProcedureCall

Hi,
I have a simple call to a StoredProcedure through toplink which returns date parameter. I want to know if I can retrieve a Timestamp or a Date object from executeQuery().
I get a ClassCastException every time I do that. It works only if I retrieve it as a string. Am I doing something wrong? My code is as follows -
Session session = getSessionFactory().acquireSession();
StoredProcedureCall call = new StoredProcedureCall();
call.setProcedureName("PROC_NAME");
call.addNamedArgument("P_1");
call.addNamedArgument("P_2");
call.addNamedArgument("P_3");
call.addNamedOutputArgument("P_TRX_DT");
ValueReadQuery query = new ValueReadQuery();
query.setCall(call);
query.addArgument("P_1");
query.addArgument("P_2");
query.addArgument("P_3");
Vector parameters = new Vector();
parameters.addElement(govNum);
parameters.addElement(areaCode);
parameters.addElement(trxType);
Timestamp trxDateTime = (Timestamp) session.executeQuery(query, parameters);
Thanks

In your call to call.addNamedOutputArgument("P_TRX_DT"); , you haven't specified the OUT type of of the arguement "P_TRX_DT". If you dont specify the type, it defaults to java.lang.String. you call should be something along the lines of
Timestamp P_TRX_DT = null;
call.addNamedOutputArgument("P_TRX_DT",  // parameter name in stored procedure i.e. the stored procedure should have an OUT parameter name that is exactly
                                                                // same as P_TRX_DT
                                           "P_TRX_DT",  //arguement name (variable name represesenting the OUT value in java code i.e. declararion from above)
                                           java.sql.Timestamp // Java type that maps to the SQL type returned by the proc i.e. the OUT type map to java type
//without the comments it should look like this
call.addNamedOutputArgument("P_TRX_DT","P_TRX_DT",java.sql.Timestamp); Can you post your stored function as well. Also you may want to have a look @ http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/ias/toplink/doc/1013/MAIN/_html/qrybas004.htm. See how DatabaseRecord is used to capture the returned value

  • Add/Remove data object from dataset

    Hello,
    I was working out a way to add and remove data from a dataset
    on the fly and could not figure out any built in methods to do
    this.
    As I have decided to include spry in my project I like to try
    and utilise as much as of its code as possible since it is
    complicated to explain I have created a simple example – a
    colour picker! (thought it might be more interesting…) of
    what I am trying to achieve at
    http://www.freshfresh.co.uk/spry/
    - if you have a go on this and maybe look at the source code (all
    the JS is embedded in HTML there are no modifications to other the
    other core files). I have only used spry effects etc, including the
    ‘accordion’ – which I have become quite attached
    to, it is really good for condensing pages down.
    You will see I am using the setDataFromDoc method to create
    the dataset – I tried the .data = myArrayOfData; .dataHash =
    hashTable; method i.e. creating from an object rather than array
    but it did’nt seem to play ball with the
    addDataChangedObserver method – it did’nt update itself
    each time it was modified (I am sorry I cannot remember exactly
    what I did – but I tried all kinds of ways…). I stuck
    with the string method because it worked - each time my new dataset
    changed it updated itself on the screen (you will have to have a
    look to understand.....sorry!!), but I would be interested to know
    how such a thing could be implemented using the object route if you
    believe this would be more efficient.
    My second question is more simple – is there a shorter
    way to add and remove a data object from a dataset? – as you
    can see from the source code I have effectively created an
    ‘interface’ to do these tasks…. I could’nt
    work out whether these methods are already built in. Maybe they
    are?
    Third question is… to extract a data object from a
    dataset I use the .dataHash[the_row_id] method – is this the
    right thing to do or could it lead to complications… that is
    using methods that might supposedly be private?
    Fourth question (observation really) – whilst creating
    that colour picker example I went over board with my datasets and
    loaded in several palettes some of which had over 1000 elements or
    data objects. Which inevitably was very slow (on my computer
    anyway) – but it got me thinking about trimming the contents
    of my spry regions for better performance. I am I right in thinking
    that the less HTML etc that there is in a spry region the quicker
    SPRY will process it. For example say you had spry repeat with an
    image tag in with some onclick, onmousover, onmouseout, style
    attributes etc and compare this to a spry repeat with a simple
    image with minimal attributes set. I suppose what I am trying to
    say is – does spry ‘store’ all the contents of
    each spry region somewhere? Or does it just process it and leave it
    to the browser dom?
    Fifth observation.... I find it really difficult to explain
    computer technicalities in writing. It must be tough reading these
    posts.... I know I find it difficult sometimes when dealing with
    written end user feedback!
    Andrew

    Just clarifying my questions a bit further....
    I found some old code regarding question 1 by using the
    object method I mean something like this...
    var mySwatches = [{'@hex':'ff0000'},{'@hex':'00ff00'}];
    var hashTable = [];
    function createDs(){
    for (var i = 0; i < mySwatches.length; i++)
    mySwatches
    .ds_RowID = i;
    hashTable = mySwatches
    dsMySwatches.data = mySwatches;
    dsMySwatches.dataHash = hashTable;
    dsMySwatches.loadData();
    i.e. not writing out a whole XML string string as the online
    example does. When using this way I did'nt seem to be able to get
    the HTML to refresh. I tried using [
    Spry.Data.updateRegion('mydata'); ] after recreating the dataset I
    also tried adding an [ .addDataChangedObserver ] (like in the
    string example) amongst numerous other ways but it just would not
    work like the string way. - Maybe I did something wrong somewhere.
    In question 3 I refer to the [ .hash ] method .... its not a
    'method' its a 'property' - my question should read - is it ok to
    access private properties (from a browser campatiblity/security
    point of view) that do not have specific methods to gain access to
    them. I suppose it does'nt really matter with JS...
    In question 4 I mention minimising the amount of code in a
    spry region to speed it up. A clearer example of this might be for
    example - a gallery with lots of images. As we know there will be a
    slight delay as SPRY writes all the html so to speed up that intial
    write I strip out all the image attributes such as onlclick do
    this, onmouse over do that... and add these after the images have
    loaded using a seperate function similar to my
    fillSwatches(ds,prefix) function in my online colorpicker example.
    I suppose it like a 2 tier processing of all the data. SPRY does
    the intial display writing to get everything in place and then
    another pass is made over to add any further functionality
    adjustments etc. I am still not sure if that makes any sense!
    ***edit
    Also on the subject of speed and the application as a whole
    i.e. including my PHP - In one example I was creating I ended up
    with an XML structure where each node has over 14 attributes i.e.
    <somenode att1=”x” ……..
    att14=”z”/> - as the file grew it obviously took
    longer to process particularly on the server side, i.e. added all
    those attributes just slowed it all down. So I did
    this…… <somenode att1=”x:y:z” /> i.e
    condensed selected attributes into a string that I could explode
    later on.
    Obviously this limits SPRYS ability to access the attributes
    using the {attr} syntax. I had to create a function to explode the
    array and do the ‘necessary’ on a second pass over the
    data – this works ok for me. But its interesting that in this
    particular case the server could not refresh the XML in an
    acceptable time without doing this – just thought that might
    be interesting to you. I suppose technically what I am doing is
    abusing the concept of an XML structure and simply using it as a
    ‘carrier’ to feed my application …. Which I
    suppose is where JSON comes in…. which is a bit more compact
    and maybe faster to manipulate on both the server and client side
    – I don’t really know, I have never used it –
    just throwing ideas around!!

  • How to return a object from a method in a java program to a C++ call (JNI )

    Sir,
    I am new to java and i have been assigned a task to be done using JNI.
    My question is,
    How can i return an object from a method in a java program to a call for the same method in a C++program using JNI.
    Any help or suggesstions in this regard would be very useful.
    Thanking you,
    Anjan Kumar

    Hello
    I would like to suggest that JNI should be your last choice and not your first choice. JNI is hard to get right. Since the JNI code is executing in the same address space as the JVM, any problems (on either side) will take down the entire process. It dilutes the Write Once Run Anywhere (WORA) value proposition because you need to provide the JNI component for all hardware/OS platforms. If you can keep your legacy code(or whatever you feel you need to do in JNI) in a separate address space and communicate via some inter-process channel, you end up with a system that is more flexible, portable, and scalable.
    Having said all that, head over to the Java Native Interface: Programmer's Guide and Specification web page:
    http://java.sun.com/docs/books/jni/
    Scroll down to the Download the example code in this book in ZIP or tar.gz formats. links and download the example source. Study and run the example sources. The jniexamples/chap5/MyNewString demo creates a java.lang.String object in native code and returns it to the Java Language program.

  • How to execute procedure returning data rows from sql plus

    Even if i get the result set into the cursor, do i have to do normal fetch into all the coumn variables within a loop
    But suppose no of columns in my result set varies depending on a parameter to the stored procedure.
    Is there any straightforward way to retrieve all the data irrespective of no of columns in the result set.There is no such thing as a "+result set+". Oracle does not create a temporary data set in memory that contains the results of your query. What would happen if this result set is a million rows and is too large to fit into memory? Or there are a 100 clients each with a 100,000 row result set?
    This is not scalable. You will be severely limited in the number and sizes of these "+result sets+" that can be created in server memory.
    A cursor is in fact a "program" that is created by compiling the SQL source code that you provide. This source code is parsed and compiled into what Oracle calls an execution plan. This is nothing but a series of instructions that the cursor will execute in order to return the rows required.
    Thus the result set is actually the output from a cursor (a program). Likewise, bind variables are the input parameters to this program.
    All SQLs are parsed and compiled as cursors and stored in the SQL Shared Pool. Oracle gives you handle in return to use to address this cursor - bind values to it, execute it, describe the output structure returned by the cursor, and fetch the output from the cursor.
    On the client side, this handle is used in different ways. In PL/SQL alone, this cursor handle can be used as an implicit cursor (you do not even see or use the cursor handle in your PL/SQL code). Or you can use a PL/SQL cursor variable. Or a DBMS_SQL cursor variable. Or a reference cursor variable.
    Why so many different client structures for the very same SQL cursor handle returned by Oracle? Because to allow you, the programmer, all kinds of different features and flexibility.
    The ref cursor feature is the ability to pass this cursor handle around, not only between PL/SQL code, but also from PL/SQL to the actual client process (Java. VB, SQL*Plus, TOAD, etc).
    The primary thing to remember - irrespective of what the client calls this (e.g. ref cursor, SQL statement handle, etc), this all refers to the same SQL cursor in the Shared Pool. And that this SQL cursor is a program that outputs data, and not a result set in itself.

    create a new "flex" project in FB Beta1 with a php server. Setup the application and php script as normal, then configure the return type for the getPeopleInMyWorld function. I created a new return type called "Person" and was quite please to see that FB automagically created a "Cars" class with the all the right properties.
    Unfortunately, if you run the code (try debug mode and put a breakpoint on the result handler) you'll notice that "john doe" has lost his cars and that you also get the silent (check console) error:
    TypeError: Error #1034: Type Coercion failed: cannot convert []@1226bc49 to mx.collections.ArrayCollection.
    any ideas??
    i can get this to work by using json, but it's extra work, the com.adobe.serializers.json.JSONDecoder has little documentation, and the method outlined above is just begging to work.
    so, how are the rest of you getting complex data back from your servers? json?? amfphp?? xml (but surely not)??
    also, since i'm here discussing data services, if any adobe ppl are about, please throw one extra voice behind the following feature requests:
    1) support for optional service call arguments (http://bugs.adobe.com/jira/browse/FB-19659)
    2) a button for automatically 'generating service calls' from within the data services panel.
    thanks,

    Thank you Gaurav for pointing me in the right direction. There was some debate in the blogs as to which data transferring method (amfphp, json, or xml) was best. See
    http://blogs.adobe.com/mikepotter/2006/07/php_and_flex_js.html
    and
    http://www.5etdemi.com/blog/archives/2006/12/clearing-the-fud-on-amfphps-speed-versus-json -and-xml/
    I used json yesterday
    php:  json_encode(array($p1, $p2));   // observation: you only have to encode once as opposed
                                          // to using amf on each array...
    FB:   private var jsonD:JSONDecoder = new JSONDecoder();
          var jsonString:String = {{{return result from service call}}}
          myPeople:ArrayCollection = jsonD.decode(jsonString, services.personservice.Person);
    Note that in FB you can use the services.personservice.Person class as an optional argument in the jsonD.decode function. This class can be automatically generated using FB's built-in data service's panel when you try to configure the return type (as I described above). The json data should unserialize correctly with Cars objects automagically created and everything (a huge time saver!!).
    It worked for me, though I'm not sure how deep the unserialization process is capable of going (objects within objects w/in objects, for example). Also I had some trouble with adobe's jsonDecoder; it had trouble eating (uhm parsing) hollow objects (i.e. objects with null properties), whereas the php_encode / php_decode handled these objects w/o fail.
    Anyway, will be reading up on amf. Tanx again Gaurav,

  • Reading/Setting Process Data Objects from Java Spring Component or XSLT

    I have a BPMN process that references a Spring Component service.
    The Spring service has a Java class and within that class I'd like to be able to reference process data objects of the BPMN process.
    Ideally, I'd like to simply read and write to those objects within the Java class.
    However, if that's not possible, I don't I can set input parameters on the Java class and have it return an object.
    If I go that route, how can I pass in or return an object of a type other than your standard types (string, int, boolean)?
    For example, I have a data object that is a type I created based on a schema.
    How would I refer to that in a Java class?
    Hope that makes sense.
    Thanks,
    Mike

    Hi Adam.
    I'm a little confused on the order of operations.
    Here are the steps I took:
    1. In JDeveloper, I created two Java classes: one interface and one class that implements it. Initially, the one method takes parameters that are Strings. I want it to also take a data type that's defined in a schema.
    2. In the composite, drag Spring Context component onto screen. This opens the XML and here I define the <bean> that points to the two Java classes I just created.
    3. In the composite, I create a pointer from the Spring component to Exposed Services and I create a new service, which creates the WSDL.
    4. Now I edit the WSDL to import the schema that defines the type I want.
    5. In my BPMN process, I add a call to the service I just created. For Data Associations, it recognizes the changes I made to the WSDL and I can map input variables to the new type added in step 4.
    Here's where I'm stuck. In the actual Java class, I don't know how to add the parameter for the data type I created. Where is this Java object created?
    Thanks,
    Mike

  • Returning cloned objects from EJB Local Interfaces

    We'd like to let our WAS 5/J2EE container manage our transactions/unit of work. However, we don't want to have our objects serialized, so we intend to use LocalInterfaces. Additionally, we want to return value objects that support Toplink indirection such that we are not returning the actual cache object but instead a clone.Our question is, how do we return a cloned object that supports indirection from Toplink that we can later do a deepMergeClone on in an explicit update method?

    Additional Information on the first post:
    The pattern we've been testing is as follows:
    1. We set up LocalInterfaces on our EJB's
    2. The EJB Getters are using acquireNonSynchronizedUnitOfWork() to get a NON-JTS transaction to perform a readQuery. This results in a Cloned Bis object being generated. We then release the UOW and return the object.
    3. The Returned Biz object Getters are using Indirection (probably using the released non-synchronized UOW).
    4. The pattern for UPDATE is that we allow the Web Container code (servlet) to change the Cloned Biz Object, they then submit the CLONED and changed object to an EJB update() method where we use getClientSession().getActiveUnitOfWork() to link to the JTS transaction and perform a uow.deepMergeClone(bizObjectClone);
    We are trying to use the pattern for the following reasons:
    1. Isolation of the Cache to upper layers
    2. Transaction Boundry is the EJB Container
    3. We understand that there is a performance overhead with CLoned Biz Objects but this more mirrors the ValueObject Pattern then anything else we've tried.
    BIG Question:
    1. Is this a supported TopLink Pattern?
    2. If its not supported, can it be?
    3. Do you have any other suggested patterns?

  • Newbie question on how to return java objects from java stored procedures

    Hi,
    As you may guess, i'm new to this.
    I have a stored procedure that does some calculations and creates a list of java objects as the result of the query.
    How would I return the list from the database to the client application?
    Would I have to create an Oracle type that maps to the java object?
    Please help.

    Hi Jag,
    Your question is very vague (to me). Perhaps you could post what you have done so far? Have you tried looking through the Sample Code page of the Technet Web site, or tried searching the Ask tom Web site, or MetaLink?

    I think in this case we are trying to return NamingEnumeration object so the problem has come. Has anyone solve this problem or tell me how to return the NamingEnumeration object in the webservice?
    Any pointer regarding this problem is helpful for me.

    If you want to transfer an object through RMI it should be Serializable. Add 'implements Serializable' to your class. That's it
    import java.io.Serializable;
    class TransferObject implements Serializable {
    }

  • How to create a java.util.Date object from a date String?

    How do I convert a String representation of a date in for the format dow mon dd hh:mm:ss zzz yyyy (e.g. "Mon Aug 27 17:12:59 EDT 2001") into a Date object? This you might note is the output of the Date classes toString() method. I don't want to have to parse this string. Thanks!

    Try this out
    java.text.SimpleDateFormat sdf = new java.text.SimpleDateFormat("yyyyMMdd");
    String d = "19990831";
    Calendar cal = Calendar.getInstance();
    cal.setTime(sdf.parse(d));To create the SimpleDateFormat with a diffrent format check out all the possibilities here
    http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.3/docs/api/java/text/SimpleDateFormat.html
    Hope this helps

    service = (ILogin) reg.lookup("service");and when I use debugger I've got this
    RegistryImpl_Stub[UnicastRef [liveRef: [endpoint:[10.240.161.66:1099](remote),objID:[0:0:0, 0]]]]
    Proxy[ILogin,RemoteObjectInvocationHandler[UnicastRef [liveRef: [endpoint:[10.240.161.54:2074](remote),objID:[-4308ea07:116adade605:-7fff, 9133145996543447416]]]]]Why the Registry return a service from different IP address ?
    I've run this code for several times and it works. But today it cannot connect to the RMIServer.
    Any idea ?

    Thanks, i found my missing prppertis is

    // on a different host than the appserver
    props.setProperty("org.omg.CORBA.ORBInitialHost", "localhost");
    // optional. Defaults to 3700. Only needed if target orb port is not 3700.
    props.setProperty("org.omg.CORBA.ORBInitialPort", "3700");

  • Web Service not returning Boolean objects from DTO class

    Hi,
    I've seen posts reporting the same problem on other forums from a few years ago that are unresolved.
    I've created a service in NDS that has a method that returns some data via a DTO class. All the data is returned apart from those that are of type java.lang.Boolean. I thought the method names might be causing the problem so created a "get" method as well as an "is" method but it is still being ignored.
    I have tested this using the Portal Web Service Navigator and by using the service in Visual Composer 7.
    Is there a problem with Boolean data types in SAP Web Services ?
    Thanks
    Gary

    Hi Rich,
    No. In fact what happens is that in the se80 case, it returns 29 lines of results and in the wsadmin case it returns 25 lines of results. The web service/function module actually executes unit tests remotely by doing an RFC from the development system to the test system (where the unit tests are executed). In the se80 case, for one object, the unit tests execute correctly. In the wsadmin, the unit tests for that object don't execute hence returning less lines of result.
    In both cases, the users used to log in the web service or se80 are the same and the users for the RFC are the same.
    Thank you for your insight.
    Regards,
    Philon
