Right way to connect, submit some SQL, and disconnect using ASP?

I thought I knew how to do this but, with one, low-use web form, we're occasionally losing form submissions and I haven't been able to understand why.
The form's processor is in a JSCRIPT "class" so I'll pull out the relevant bits below.
I was just able to learn from a user that he saw the "cannot save" message "thrown" when the test for this.aConnection.State!=1 fails.
No other place in the application presents that error, so I'd guess that's the problem. Thing is, how can a connect to the database occasionally fail when the database (11g on windows 2003) hasn't been down for weeks? The DB is in "shared" mode with I believe one dispatcher.
Hints would sure be appreciated.
this.aConnection=null;
var sConnect="Provider=OraOLEDB.Oracle;Data Source=<>;User Id=<>;Password=<>";
this.aConnection=Server.CreateObject( "ADODB.Connection" );
if( !this.aConnection )
throw "The application cannot access information.";
this.aConnection.Open( sConnect );
if( this.aConnection.State!=1 )
throw "The application cannot save your submission.";
this.aConnection.Execute( <DDL to insert>, 0, 1 );
this.aConnection.Close();

I've concluded that the State property of a Connection object isn't reliable. The moment I added the test:
if( this.aConnection.State!=1 )
throw "The application cannot save your submission.";
we began to have problems with users of a our web app seeing the thrown message even though the database instance shows no evidence of connection trouble. I toyed with tracing OraOLEDB but never got that to work, and an Oracle support person suggested that type of tracing isn't reliable anyway. Finally, buried in some MS support document I saw the claim that a connection isn't actually opened until a recordset is returned.
That suggests that the real test for "connected" is whether your app can do the work you intend it to do: in other words, "try."

• What is the right way to connect the adapter to my macbook when charging?

what is the right way to connect the adapter to my macbook when charging.
is it connect the magsafe connector first before plugging the adapter to the outlet? or the way around? or both ways will do?
what if i'm using a surge protection with a on/off button, can I just turn the surge protector extension on and off without disconnecting the magsafe connector and adapter plug from my laptop when i'm not using it?
thank you very much

If there is any arcing it may be because the adapter is dirty. It is best to plug in the wall wart then attach the magsafe to the MacBook. As GfulDedFan mentioned this reduces the chance of power surging the MacBook. I have done mine this way since he day I bought it and have never had an arc. I keep it clean to reduce the chance of this happening. The following will help in the care of your supply.

• I want to know the ways of connecting 9iAS to Database and clients to database through 9iAS as middleware.

My question was about the necessity of implementing OID or any other version of LDAP.
We have a new 9iAS and 8.1.7 database implementation and i have a doubt about their networking architecture.
I want to know the ways of connecting 9iAS to Database and clients to database through 9iAS as middleware. We are debating if OID is compulsory or if we can go ahead with this implementation with out OID.
Can you please help me and provide me couple of implementation designs(i.e connecting clients to database through 9iAS). It would be great if any one can provide me the implementation's with and with out OID.

Uhm SQL (Structured Query Language) is like the base
of all other type like MySQL and Oracle. Um, given the context I think the person was referring to "Microsoft SQL Server". Sometimes people will cut to the chase and refer to the product as "SQL". At those times it's understood by all parties that we're not talking about the query language, rather the Microsoft product.
I think this is one of those times.
See
something i found in two seconds with the wonder of
google http://sqlzoo.net/ & http://sqlzoo.net/w.htm
It's commendable that you're using Google. I'd argue that the OP should be making better use of it, too. But I don't think your response is applicable to this context. JMO, of course.

I am freeing up some space and am using osx lion, but i have 12gb of back ups, how can i delete these and what are they?

Gotcha.
Back-ups are what they are: a safety copy. If you feel you don't need them, you can trash them. They could be of a previous System if you upgraded, or something else. You wont get the full picture from looking at system profiler.
You may want to look into getting an external drive and offloading some stuff to it.

• Multiple Forms in a Flash Document and Posting Using ASP

Hello everyone!
I have some what of a dilemma on my hands. I am creating
multiple forms in one document using Flash and need them to post
using ASP script. I have been researching this for the last six
days, and I have had NO luck. I have noticed that all the
information that I have found is for one form, not more than one.
What I have so far is the Flash document, with 4 forms. The
basic idea is that a user chooses from a drop down menu (the
combobox) a location, and depending on the location chosen, it
takes the user to another frame in the flash document. The forms
(all their own movie clip) contains a name field, a department
field, and either a manager name a userID field or an employee
number as well as the basic buttons for submitting the form or
resetting the form.
So far what I have working is the drop down menu (combobox)
taking me to the proper frame and it shows the appropriate form.
The reset button clearing the form (deleting any information that I
have imputed into the input fields), but I have absolutely NO idea
how to get the submit button to work (I did manage to get it to
send me a message if there was nothing in one of the input fields),
and NO idea how to get the information to the ASP file.
Where there are 4 forms do each of them have to have their
own ASP file attached to them, or can I use one?
If anyone knows a site that deals with multiple forms in one
SWF and posts using ASP that would be greatly appreciated, or if
you know some actionscript that could be helpful.
Thank you all in advance.

That would be part of my problem, I really don't know ASP,
and I am flying by the seat of my pants.
The current script I have for the ASP file is:
<% @Language = "VBScript" %>
<%
Option explicit
Dim strfullName
Dim strdeptName
Dim strmanagerName
Dim strobjeemail
Dim strlocation
strfullName.Request.Form("fullName_txt")
strdeptName.Request.Form("deptName_txt")
strmanagerName.Request.Form("managerName_txt")
strlocation.Request.Form("locationName")
Set strobjemail = CreateObject("CDO.Message")
strobjemail.From = "[email protected]"
strobjemail.To = "[email protected]"
strobjemail.Subject = "Program from " + strlocation
strobjemail.Body = "This user has completed this progrmam
from " + strlocation & Chr(13) & Chr(10) & "Name: " +
strfullName & Chr(13) & Chr(10) & "Department: " +
strdeptName & Chr(13) & Chr(10) & + "Manager: " +
strmanagerName
strobjemail.Send
Set strobjemail=nothing
%>
The AS code that I have so far is:
function formValidationChecks(){
if (fullName_txt.length==0){
status_txt.text = "Please enter your Name";
else if (deptName_txt.length==0){
status_txt.text = "Please enter your Department";
else if (managerName_txt.length==0){
status_txt.text = "Please enter your Manager";
else {
status_txt.text = "Thank You!";
variables.fullName_txt = fullName_txt.text;
variables.deptName_txt = deptName_txt.text;
variables.managerName_txt = managerName_txt.text;
varLoader.load(varSend);
trace("-----");
trace("Name: "+fullName_txt.text);
trace("Department: "+deptName_txt.text);
trace("Manager: "+managerName_txt.text);
trace("Form validated");
submit_btn.onRelease = function(){
status_txt.text = "";
if(formValidationChecks()){
var lv = new LoadVars();
lv.fullName_txt = form.fullName_txt.text;
lv.deptName_txt = form.deptName_txt.text;
lv.managerName_txt = form.managerName_txt.text;
lv.sendAndLoad("mail.asp", lv, "POST");
reset_btn.onRelease = function()
fullName_txt.text = "";
deptName_txt.text = "";
managerName_txt.text = "";
So far my reset button clears everything, and the submit
button is tracing the content in the form fields, but it's not even
grabbing the asp page.
Any suggestions? Even pages that have tutorials that are in
the form of a video.
Thanks

• Which way to go with PL/SQL and XML

Hi fellows,
I have a general question to XML on Oracle.
I read already some parts of the three manuals coming with the online documentation of 9i
- XML developer kit XDK
- XML API - XDK and Oracle XML DB
- XML database developer guide Oracle XML DB.
Also I wrote already a PL/SQL package using DBMS_XMLGEN to generate XML data from relational Oracle tables.
Actually I like the simplicity how I can create XML data with this DBMS package but I still missing the features like using a DTD/XML Schema to generate XML data.
I still don't know what the best way would be to use these features of XML in Oracle.
Hopefully someone can give me some advise and possibly can point to some code samples so that I can see the proper use of the package.
How about DBMS_XMLQuery?
To use this package, would that be the better solution for my problem?
Any comment much appreciated.
Thanks
Fred

Hi Fred,
Having written a fair amount of PL/SQL code to generate and process XML in the past years, I can give you my opinion on the matter. If you look at the PL/SQL API's Oracle has been written to handle XML, you will find two types/categories of API's: PL/SQL code based on wrapping java (i.e. DBMS_XMLQUERY) and PL/SQL code based on C (i.e. DBMS_XMLGEN). The first category is usually slower, so I tend to use these only if there are no other options. You can measure execution times by executing the same query using both DBMS_XMLGEN. vs. DBMS_XMLQUERY.
I usually tend to store xml into relational tables by extracting the xml document in PL/SQL using the functions XMLType data type offers (i.e. extract, existNode, getStringVal, etc) function rather than using DBMS_XMLSTORE for flexibility reason (more control over what's being stored).
Besides the PL/SQL API's there are some rather neat SQL functions to handle XML (i.e. XMLElement, XMLForest, XMLAgg, XMLAttribute, etc) I like to use to build XML documents that are to complex for DBMS_XMLGEN. But, on the downside, I think these functions might cost considerable amounts of CPU, because behind the scene a DOM-tree is build in the SGA/UGA(?), especially on large XML structures or high concurrency systems. I have not measured this yet, so I say might.
Further, what I think is lacking from the Oracle API's in general is handing of CDATA sections and the fact that some XML functions default generate "pretty-printing" XML, which can not be switched of as far as I know. In my opinion XML should never be "pretty printed", because XML basically is about data transportation, not about lay-out. CDATA sections are not handled, even worse "<![CDATA[ ]]>" is being escaped (to &lt and &gt) and not properly interpreted when processed back to text.

• The "right" way to handle multiple devices, accounts and the cloud?

Perhaps a bit premature, but I figure it's never too early to start planning.
Here's our current setup - I currently have four iDevices in the faily (three iPhones and one iPod Touch. All are syncing to the same Mac Mini, albeit with different logins (and different iTunes store ids). All four of these are kept in sync via Home Sharing so we have access to the music/apps/etc acquired by the others.
Enter the iCloud - how does this fit in? What's the *right* way to do this?
I can see two options:
1) Continue to utilize four iTunes store ids, sync them via Home Sharing and add four iClouds
Advantages
totally independent devices, users, etc.
Disadvantages
must pay for four "iTunes Match" services to access non-iTunes music on each of the four devices
will iTunes-purchased music automaticaly sync to iCloud if it is shared via Home Sharing (or only by the original purchaser)?
2) Use one iTunes Store id for all iDevices
Advantages
single point of acquisition and distribution for all devices
Disadvantages
need to find a way to merge IDs (is this even possible?)
Are there other advantages/disadvantages to these options? Are there other options? What's the easiest to set up and support? Any other thoughts?
Thanks in advance for your input.

Well it seems like the first thing you should do is consolidate your iTunes libraries so that you don't have 4 copies of everything, one for each user logged in to your Mac Mini. How you do that is consolidate all 4 iTunes folders to one folder located in the /Users/Shared/ folder and update each of your iTunes to point to that folder accordingly. That way you have one iTunes library, only one copy of your media, but accessible from multiple users.
One caveat is that if somebody is logged on and has iTunes open, you can't fast switch to another user and open iTunes. Apple made it so that only one user and one instance of iTunes can open a iTunes library at a time.
For your iTunes match situation, it does sound like you would be much better off sharing a single Apple ID with one iTunes Match. For consolidating, make sure you have everything everybody has shared via Home Sharing to the main account you'd like to move over to, and then simply go to each device Settings, Store, and the sign out of the original Apple ID and logon using the shared main Apple ID. I just looked at it and the automatic downloading is already live in iOS! You can specify if you want to do music, apps, and books separately in case you may want to automatically download music but not apps or books.

• Pure SQL and Border Use Cases?

Hi Gurus
I was developing a DB Adapter to select data from Shipping tables. I did it by polling as well as with Custom SQL. While using the custom SQL I got the following error in my domain.log
(my query that I wrote) failes, Caused by java.sql.SQLException: Invalid column index.
The Pure SQL option is for border use cases only and provides simple yet minimal functionality. Possibly try the "Perform an operation on a table" option instead.
What is a border use case, how do I decide that. So BPEL support the custom sql option very loosely?
Thx

The thing is that XSLT often doesn't deliver the functionality required when it comes to times.
You suggest appening "Z" to the time but this means that the time is now in UTC time. What if the system from where the date is being converted is running in NZ using local time? Other systems that recieve the date (and correctly handle the time zone) will now have a time that is out by a number of hours.
You often can't ignore the time zone (drop the 'Z') as if you send the time to a system it has to either assume the time is local to it (which may not be the case... the other system coudl be in a different time zone) or assume the time is UTC (I think crossfire does this by default).
Typically can't just append a time zone (e.g. +11:00) either as many places have daylight savings so the value to appended is variable (you then need some way of determining what the value is... either Java Embedding or a Service).
As you mention it does depend on the use case but in many circumstances using Jaba Embedding, not as suggested above but with the appropriate Java.util.Calendar classes, is the best way to handle date and time in BPEL. Even still you need to ascertain the format of times external to the system and ensure you parse them correctly.
ANd even if you do all this you can still run into problems. I've seen a real world example where two systems which both handled time zones correctly and had previously been working together for quite a while, satrted reporting different times. It turns out that only one of them had had the most recent Java Time Zone patches applied and there had been a change in the dates for daylight savings here (Australia). Be warned!

• How to get Connection string for Sql Server Installed ( using Gallary ) on Azure VM ?

Installed Azure VM From gallary with Sql Server 2012, even after allowing 1433 port through firewall, still cant get access to Sql Server from outside vm, So please provide steps for getting exact ServerName for connecting Sql Server on VM for connecting
from Visual Studio Application.
Thanks.

Hi,
You can check the DNS name of the VM in the VM instance page of the Azure management portal.
In addition, you can also refer to the third-party article below:

• Some problems and questions using OWB

For Igor or anyone who can help me :-)
Hello Igor,
Thanks for all your help concerning my mapping deployment problem! Now it’s working better ;-)
I used the OWB Runtime Assistant to create a new runtime target schema and i use the owner of this schema as user while logging to OWB.
Now i can create and deploy without problems mappings, tables, functions, procedures, packages, dimensions, views, materialized views, process flows (i have installed the Oracle Workflow Client 2.6.2.0.0 with OWF builder and OWF mailer ).
However I have still some problems and questions :-)
a) After deploying a mapping or process flow i can execute them from OWB Deployment Manager. How can i schedule the execution of a deployed precess without using OWBDM ? (I want to execute a process every day to perform ETL).
b) I think i have a problem deploying cubes. I create a cube in OWB, the validation is OK, the deploment succeds, but if i look with OEMC in the tree in the Warehouse OLAP section no cube is created. Only the fact tabe is created. If i look to the scripts from the Pre Deployment generation results i found DDLs only for TABLE, INDEX, UNIQUE KEY, FOREIGN KEY and ANALYZE object types, meanwhile during a dimension deployment i found also a DDL for the DIMENSION type object. WHY ?
c) If I look in the procedures of the new created OWB Runtime Target Schema I found 3 procedures which are in error and when I try to compile them I receive the following error messages :
- procedure WB_OLAP_LOAD_CUBE
PLS-00201: identifier 'DBMS_AWM.CREATE_AWCUBELOAD_SPEC' must be declared
- procedure WB_OLAP_LOAD_DIMENSION
PLS-00201: identifier 'DBMS_AWM.CREATE_AWDIMLOAD_SPEC' must be declared
- procedure WB_OLAP_LOAD_DIMENSION_GENUK
PLS-00201: identifier 'DBMS_AWM.CREATE_AWDIMLOAD_SPEC' must be declared
How can solve this problem? Is there any link with the fact that the cube is not generated?
d) When I first acces the deployed DIM in the OEMC tree I receive a message saying that the dimension does not have complete metadata as needed for use by Oracle OLAP services (because is created either in an earlier version of Oracle database or it was created by an an other application than OEMC) and OEMC automatically generates the default needed metadata. Is this normal ?
I work in an environment with
- Oracle 9i Database 9.2.0.1.0
- Oracle 9i Client 9.2.0.1.0
- Oracle 9i Warehouse Builder Products 9.2.0.2.8
Best Regards:
Vlad
PS Sorry for my poor English ;-)

• Airport extreme will connect to some iPhones and iPads, but not all, and will not connect to MacBooks.

Why will the airport extreme not connect internet to macbook or some iPhones? It will connect to all our iPhone 6's and iPads but not to the MacBooks. The macbook says wi-fi has the self assigned ip address of ___,____,____,___ and will not be able to connect to the internet,

Have you done a full restart of the network in correct order?
Shut down everything.. OFF not standby.
Power on in order.
Modem.. wait 2min
Router.. (Extreme??) wait 2min
Macbook.. Only the Macbook.. do restart anything else yet.
Any luck??
No luck reset the Extreme to factory and redo the setup.. this time use all short names, no spaces and pure alphanumeric. Bonus for names <10 characters.
Use passwords with the same rules.. only can be 8-20 characters.. mixed case and numbers.
Try again with the Macbook..
No luck give explicit details of the setup of the whole network.
