Rollback from a cold backup
Hi,
i've done a cold backup now and i've some old archivelog.
I need to do a restore poin in time back to the past using my cold backup and
the last 2 archivelog.
How can i do?
Hi,
I thinked over and I say it might possible provided, all archive logs are available.
Restore the cold backup to New Server
Mount the DB
start recovery using backupcontrolf file clause until some time in back.
Perhaps, with out happening or inconsistent - usually recovery might not happend, but still when you go for "using backup control file" - recovery applies / starts based on the control file status and Reset logs might be needed. So, in that case go back and specify time.
I doubt it, whether it works or not... I need to have break ..!! Test on some separate testing server.

1. install software and clusterware on new set of machine
2. copy cold backup on that set of machine
3.copy spfile and controlfile
4.open the database up with controlfile,spfile and dbf files
now i am not sure on one thing if i have to do something special for RAC DB or its like single instance.

RAC to RAC CLONE FROM RMAN Cold Backup
Hi All,
I need your kind assistance in Cloning my Oracle RAC 11.2.0.2 Environment to remote host. Following is Disk layout
DGVOT (ASM Disk group holding OCR and Voting Disk)
DGDATA (ASM Disk Group Holding Data FIles)
DGFRA (ASM Disk Group Holding Fast Recovery FIles)
Remote Host is on different location so cannot use RMAN duplicate with auxiliary channel.
Have luxury of downtime so I want to take RMAN Consistent( Cold Backup)
SAME Disk layout is available to remote hosts.
11.2.0.2 CLusterware (GI) Plus the oracle binaries are already installed.
Can any body tell me the steps to
1) How to take cold backup to disk so that I can tar and copy to remote host
2) clone the database on remote host
3) How i will add the database listener and other resources of this databasee to clusterware.
actually this is my first RAC clone so i am not much aware of detail steps.
I have gone though many metalink notes but no one is matching with my requirements. your expert advice will help me a lot
Regards,Hi
1) How to take cold backup to disk so that I can tar and copy to remote host.
Use Rman for cold backupIn mount stage execute
RMAN>backup database plus archivelog format '<disk_path>/dbp%U';
RMAN> backup current controlfile format '<disk_path>/ctl%U';
Copy thse backup sets to remote host
2) clone the database on remote host
Create Similar ASM Disk groups as on source
create pfile/spifile, startup instance in nomount mode
catalog backup set
RMAN> catalog start with '<backup_set location>';
Restore controlfile
RMAN>restore controlfile;
RMAN> restore database;
RMAN> recover database;
On successfull recovery
RMAN>sql 'alter database open';
3) How i will add the database listener and other resources of this databasee to clusterware.
User srvctl to add resources
Usage: srvctl <command> <object> [<options>]
commands: enable|disable|start|stop|relocate|status|add|remove|modify|getenv|setenv|unsetenv|config|convert|upgrade
objects: database|instance|service|nodeapps|vip|network|asm|diskgroup|listener|srvpool|server|scan|scan_listener|oc4j|home|filesystem|gns|cvu
For detailed help on each command and object and its options use:
srvctl <command> -h or
srvctl <command> <object> -h

Thanks.Hi
Follow the below steps
1.) create the password file
2.) If u have the pfile of the target database ,then edit the pfile contents like location and name to new location and names.
3.) Now takes startup the database to nomount statge
4.) Now create the controlfile . Check the below link for creating the controlfile

Restoring and Recovering from RMAN cold backup
DB Version: 11gR2
os : Solaris
Before dropping a DB we had taken an RMAN backup of the DB using
RMAN> backup database;We hadn't set a FORMAT (like db_%d_S_%s_P_%p_T_%t) for this DB , so the backups went to ORACLE_HOME/dbs directory. The 2 backup files are
/u02/app/oracle/11.2/db/dbs/01mo9fms_1_1
/u02/app/oracle/11.2/db/dbs/02mo9fnc_1_1 -- spfile and control fileNow we need to recreate this DB on a new server.
In the new server, we've placed the backup files in /u04/backup/rmanbkp .
Since We hadn't set a FORMAT parameter for the original DB which we have dropped what format i will give during restore?
Will RMAN automatically recognize the FORMAT of the backup piece and restore ?
RMAN> run
allocate channel c1 device type disk format 'i_dont_know_the_format';
allocate channel c2 device type disk format 'i_dont_know_the_format';
restore controlfile;
restore database;
}This the SHOW ALL output from the DB we have dropped .
RMAN> show all;
RMAN configuration parameters for database with db_unique_name BRCFTST are:
CONFIGURE RETENTION POLICY TO REDUNDANCY 1; # default
CONFIGURE BACKUP OPTIMIZATION OFF; # default
CONFIGURE DEFAULT DEVICE TYPE TO DISK; # default
CONFIGURE CONTROLFILE AUTOBACKUP OFF; # default
CONFIGURE CONTROLFILE AUTOBACKUP FORMAT FOR DEVICE TYPE DISK TO '%F'; # default
CONFIGURE DEVICE TYPE DISK PARALLELISM 1 BACKUP TYPE TO BACKUPSET; # default
CONFIGURE DATAFILE BACKUP COPIES FOR DEVICE TYPE DISK TO 1; # default
CONFIGURE ARCHIVELOG BACKUP COPIES FOR DEVICE TYPE DISK TO 1; # default
CONFIGURE MAXSETSIZE TO UNLIMITED; # default
CONFIGURE ENCRYPTION FOR DATABASE OFF; # default
CONFIGURE ENCRYPTION ALGORITHM 'AES128'; # default
CONFIGURE COMPRESSION ALGORITHM 'BASIC' AS OF RELEASE 'DEFAULT' OPTIMIZE FOR LOAD TRUE ; # default
CONFIGURE ARCHIVELOG DELETION POLICY TO NONE; # default
CONFIGURE SNAPSHOT CONTROLFILE NAME TO '/u02/app/oracle/11.2/db/snapcf_brcftst.f'; # defaultAs you can see we hadn't set the format explicitly , ie. the line
CONFIGURE CHANNEL DEVICE TYPE DISK FORMAT is missingHi,
Before dropping a DB we had taken an RMAN backup.I hope you were in mount mode.
Will RMAN automatically recognize the FORMAT of the backup piece and restore ?No it won't.
First you have to restore a controlfile in nomount mode with:
restore controlfile from '/u04/backup/rmanbkp /02mo9fnc_1_1';
and do alter database mount.
Than you have to run "catalog start with '/u04/backup/rmanbkp'; " so the instance now knows where to find the pieces.
Now you can run a restore database command.
Than open the database with resetlogs.

Enterprise Manager Configin a new host after recovery from cold backup
Dear friends ,
we have recovered a DB in new host(windows) from the cold backup.
Listener is configured and EM is also configured .
I am able to login through the EM . In the front page i get an error like
java.lang.exception:unknownhost exception sensding request ::<hostname>.<domain>
Please Note :The hostname from which we have taken backup(operation system) is different from the new host name where have recovered the DB.
Also when i clicked the link for administration page or performance page
i was taken to the login page which was showing as follows
user name:
password:
Connect String : <old host name>.<domain name>
Now i dont know where is parameter of old host details are stored and how it has to be replaced.
Please reply if anyone can have the solution .
Thanks in advance
MadhuPlease Note :The hostname from which we have taken backup(operation system) is different from the new host name where have recovered the DB
This is the call for trouble actually.EM repository stores the info of hostname/ipaddress of the machine where it is configured. So any change in that information will not let you use EM.There are couple of files which are there in which this information is stored and if needed, that information can be be manualy edited.But manual editing is not a good way to deal with repository.So the better option for you is to recreate the repository of your EM
Follow the link for the description of the commands.
You would have to use
$emca -deconfig dbcontrol db -repos drop
$emca -config dbcontrol db -repod createHTH

Restore from cold backup (rac server)
Hi All,
Oracle version : 10g
OS : SunOS dixie1 5.10 Generic_118855-36 i86pc i386 i86pc
I am having cold backup of RAC server (2 nodes), I want to restore from cold backup.
The problem is that : when i performed the cold backup using rman at that time Oracle was having 3 ASM diskgroups.But unforunately that disk is no more in use due to some fault.
Now my question is how can i restore from the cold backup as when i'll restore from the cold backup this will ask for the same ASM diskgroups.Even more if i creates the same diskgroup with the same name and same configuration then my doubt is that rman will allow me to restore the same from the cold backup as ASM disk header changed now ?
Thanks,

Yes.You can do these and restore/recover your database.First you need startup your ASM instance then create your ASM disk groups and do following:
1.Edit pfile and change controlfile location to diskgroup(Consder that +dgr1)
2.Restore controlfile to this disk group using backup of controlfiles(you say that is cold backup)
rman target /
/*Instance need starting up from pfile*/
startup nomount ;
/*then restore controlfile,give full path of controlfile from coldbackup*/
restore controlfile from 'coldbackup_location\coltrolfile';
alter database mount;
catalog start with 'coldbackup_location';
backup as copy database format '+dgr1';
switch database to copy;
alter database open; -

If you have COLD copy then simply replace all the data files, redo log files, and the control files and start the database it should start. I do not understand your back up strategy because if you have a Hot backup then why do you need a cold backup. Please let me know in what mode your database is running?

Create database using datafiles from cold backup
hi,
I've been given a bunch of datafiles from a cold backup.
I have created my own database using the same DB_NAME as the original.
I now want to be able to attach these datafiles to my database. How do I go about? Do I need to start the database in mount mode so that the control file is open, then start adding these datafiles to the tablespace, and then open the database?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thank you.OracleGuy777 wrote:

Thank you.Hi,That is not possible.You actually have two different databases,however db_name is same but every db_name are same databases is not same.These has own DBID in same environment.(Their controlfile and datafile information exactly is different).There is similar way is transportable tablespace feature.You can use this feature to transport tablespace between databases.For more information see below link.

How to Create new database from cold backup files.
Dear Experts,
I have an oracle 10g databae on windows 2003 server.
The database is in Archive log mode and backup strategy is Taking cold backup ever night.
Backup steps:
shut down database.
copy data files, control files, redo logs, archive logs and parameter files to safe location.
Startup.
I have taken a backup at Tuesdaay 1AM and I have archive logs also.
On Wednesday, I want to Create a new database on another server with the available cold backup files and archive logs. I want to recover the database upto 4PM Wednesday. How can I do this.
I am not using control file auto backup or control file backup to trace.
Please help me how can I do this. I am new to oracle database Administration.
--ThanksThe steps :
shut down database.
copy data files, control files, redo logs, archive logs and parameter files to safe location -- you mean the alternate location for the new databaseare correct (except that I would say "alternate location for the new database").
If you do not have controlfile backups, you cannot either OPEN the database or RECOVER the database until and unless you CREATE the Controlfiles. You have to generate a CREATE CONTROLFILE script using a BACKUP CONTROLFILE TO TRACE from the Production serer and create the controlfile on the new server.
BEFORE the Startup, I would use
RECOVER DATABASE USING BACKUP CONTROLFILE UNTIL CANCEL;The "using backup controlfile" tells Oracle to continue attempting Recovery -- ie doing a RollForward -- till the last archivelog made available to it.
For the Recover command, you then keep applying the ArchiveLogs from the Tuesday 1am ColdBackup upto Wednesday 4pm.
Once you have applied the last ArchiveLog, you do an
ALTER DATABASE OPEN RESETLOGS;Here are my notes of doing a RollForward "Recovery" from a Cold Backup :
http://hemantoracledba.blogspot.com/2007/05/rollforward-from-cold-backup.html
If you are attempting all these steps on a different server from your current Production database, you should be safe.
Once you OPEN the database, you can use CREATE CONTROLFILE or the NID utility to rename the database.
If you are attempting to create the new database on the same server there are many other precautions you have to take and unless you have experience with cloning databases, I would advice you against doing so (only the RMAN DUPLICATE DATABASE command has a safer method of cloning a database).

Restoring tigger from cold backup.
Hi
I have one problem..... recently i have drooped 1 trigger by mistake of one of my user in database. Now the problem is... we never take the logical backup of that DB.
Backup mechanism of the database is Cold Backup and size is *2TB*.
Now i have to restore that trigger from the cold backup with minimum effort , do i have to create the Clone database with the Cold backup using all the datafiles ...? or System tablespace ( or datafile) and default Schema tablespace(Schema which holds the trigger and its tables) in enough for restoring the trigger ?
I hope i am clear with my question. please let me know if you need more details.
Please suggest some best and fast way to solve this problem.
Thanks,You need to restore enough to OPEN the DB can you please elaborate this clearly....
The version is :
Oracle Database 11g Release 11.1.0.7.0 - 64bit Production
PL/SQL Release 11.1.0.7.0 - Production
CORE 11.1.0.7.0 ; Production
TNS for Linux: Version 11.1.0.7.0 - Production
NLSRTL Version 11.1.0.7.0 - Production I have dropped in this Monday. Flashback is not implemented.

Test Restore Database Instance from Cold backup
Hi - I have a customer who is using an Oracle database instance not in archivelog mode
currently, I have managed to persuade them to backup at least weekly using an RMAN cold backup.
Prior to my being allowed to do anything else they want to perform a test restore from the cold backup
I want to find a simple procedure to do this which will enable me to tick the box then hopefully I may be able to persuade them that Hot Backups are the way to go.
Has anyone got any good suggestions for this please?Ah if only things were quite so simple - my hands are tied somewhat there isn't a second machine available at the moment so I was hoping to be able to run a test restore to the same machine !
No they do not worry about data in this situation - Oracle is used almost as a query engine maybe a very odd solution as the actual data is not really held within this oracle database but the resultant queries are!
Anyway I think I will just do a virtual restore using the restore database validate command then armtwist a couple of managers!
One of the areas they had difficulty with is that apparently they had archivelogging on but the rate of writing archivelogs was huge and it was affecting performance. I am not knowledgeable enough to know how to tune that problem!! -
Recover database using cold backup
Hi All,
One of the table is delete by one of our DBA from PROD accidentally. We have a cold backup on one day before.
Now we are trying to restore it from the cold backup. PROD DB is in archivelog and all the archive is in tact.
The table got truncated today at 8 PM. Can we apply the database till 8 PM so that we can restore the truncated table using cold backup.
Please find the below steps which we are using to restore.
creating controlfile
starting the db in mount state
recover database;
Will it ask for latest archive log when we try to recover it.
ENV details -
DB - 11.2.0.1
Please suggest.
ThanksHi,
If you have doubts about the procedure to use to restore a backup to a point in time, then please take a look at the documentation first: Performing Flashback and Database Point-in-Time Recovery - 11g Release 2 (11.2)
After you specify the time when the recovery must end (UNTIL clause in rman), then the RECOVER command will try to use the archivelogs needed.
Before starting with this PITR operation, you should check if your database has flashback active, because it will be much easier to recover using it.
This is also explained on the same document linked above.
Regards.

2.) copy the created the trace file from udump to test server
3.) shutdown the P1DB and take cold backup containing all datafiles
4.) Copy dbf to test servers
5.) Edit trc file copied in step no 2
6.) As you are changing the name of db use option SET ( in place of REUSE)
7.)Also remove unwanted portion
8.) Change the name of trc file to <somthing>.sql
9.) Startup test db in nomount stage
10.) run the above created sql
