Rotating tank control on front panel

Is there an easy way to rotate a tank, pump, etc. other than going in an editing each control separately. I can invert the scale and rotate the text but have not found a way to rotate the control.

I am afraid there doesn't seem to be a way to rotate the controls. We can resize and move them around at run-time but not rotate -- other than modifying the control itself.
I guess this goes on the Wish List.

• How to show or hide a control in front panel

Hi All, I am revising the code from someone else, and a control in front panel seems to be hidden until you click something to make it show. I tried to use right click in front panel and it did not work by clicking something related to show or hide. Since I don't quite familiar with property nodes, this hidden setting may be related to that.
In the picture it shows the front panel and its two property nodes, could anyone advise me how to change the setting to show this control? Thank you!
Solved!

If you right-click on the the control's terminal, you will see an option to "Hide Control" or "Show Control". This is what you should use when editing the code. The property nodes set to Visible are for when the application is running.

• How to convert U32 value obtained from color control of front panel to float(SGL) for use with IMAQ Draw ?.

I am trying to get user color inputs from front panel and use it in IMAQ Draw. I need to draw an oval of a certain color in a background of another color. Both these color values are user input. The problem is IMAQ Draw requires SGL color value and the color controls of front panel give U32. I have tried conversion VI's which hasn't worked. HELP !!!

Jake,
I think the color control can be wired directly to the input, but I am not positive. I don't know of any color conversions that would help.
Make sure your image is a color image. You can't draw colors on a grayscale image.
You might want to consider using overlays, which appear on top of the image but are not part of the image.

• How to make non-visible Control on Front Panel Appear at Design Time?

I have some Controls on the Front Panel whose visibility is changed (turned on or off) at Run Time. The problem is that if I stop the Run time, the Visibility of the Control remains in the runtime state in Design mode. So I may not be able to see or find the Control to make changes in Deisgn mode.
How can I make all Controls on the Front Panel visible, or find and make visible a Control on the Front Panel whose Visibility has been made False?
THANKS.

This is documented in the LabVIEW Help.
Displaying Hidden Front Panel Objects
Complete the following steps to display a hidden front panel control or indicator. You also can hide front panel controls and indicators.
Find the block diagram terminal for the object. If you have several terminals with the same data type, right-click the terminals and select Visible Items»Label from the shortcut menu. Find the object with the label that matches the hidden front panel object.
Right-click the terminal and select Show Control from the shortcut menu if the object is a control or Show Indicator if the object is an indicator.
You also can use the Visible property to display controls and indicators programmatically.
You also can display all hidden front panel controls and indicators.

• Manually controlling the front panel without a keyboard

Hi all,
In my application I constantly switch the keyboard and the mouse between two computers (using a KVM switch), but would like to continuously be able to control a numeric control on the front panel of one of the computers (running LabView 6.1). Even if I wasn't switching, the use of the keyboard is awkward, since the control needs to be fairly effortless, quick and smooth. After searching a bit for a knob/wheel/dial type of controller, I was only able to find the new PowerMate (Griffin Technology) as a reasonable candidate, and have yet to purchase and try to integrate it. I'm also not sure how it will work with LabView.
Am I overlooking a simple solution?
Anyone have some experience with the Pow
erMate?
many thanks, Shy

Another option: Create a simple TCP/IP application in VB or LabVIEW to
control the control.
That is,
Monitor for incoming TCP/IP data in the VI with the control.
If on your other computer you wish to make a change, just use your
little application to do it, and send the value to the main app.
Very cheap to do =)
Another option 2:
Grab the available Parallel Port digital interface design specifics for
labview. Create yourself a simple binary switch interface. Assign 4
bits for up and 4 bits for down.
That is,
sw1 = -10
sw2 = -1
sw3 = +1
sw4 = +10
Read in the digital input from the parallel port and increment your
control accordingly. You can obviously assign any values you want to
the digital inputs.
Hope this helps guide you a little bit!

You'll need to use an event structure to respond to the mouse down, mouse
move and mouse up events. In the mouse down event of the control, set a
value in a shift register to true. In the mouse move event, when the value
is true, change the position of the control with a position property node.
In the mouse up event of the control, set the boolean in the shift register
to false.
second thing I want to ask if I want to make it copy

You can't copy paste controls during run time. It seems you want to make a
graphical application, where you can graphically drag and drop some
configuration or something like that. You should have a look at the picture
control. You can draw anything you want in this control, and catch mouse
down, move and up events in the same way. It is perhaps a bit difficult to
get to know it, but it is very powerful when you do.

• How to delete hidden Control on Front Panel

Gert,
Just right-click on the control's terminal and select ->show control. You
will then be able to delete the control as usual.

• Disable controls on front panel (Bacic question)

How do i make the numeric controls on the front panel disable when the VI is running??

1. Create a reference to the control you wish to enable/disable. (You can right click on the control on the block diagram and select "Create >> Reference" to do this).
2. Wire the reference to a Property Node (found in Application Control on the Functions Palette).
3. Right click on the Property Node and choose "Change All To Write".
4. Left click on the Property Node and choose "Disabled" from the list.
The state of the control will depend on the value you wire to "Disabled" terminal of the Property Node. 0-Enabled, 1-Disabled, 2-Disabled and Grayed Out.
Hope that answers it for you.

• How do I group a large logic circuit into a single icon that still allows for control of that VI's front panel?

I have a graphical representation of a P&ID made of LED lights that turns green or red depending on if that
process line is open or closed. The coorisponding block diagram is a rather large logic circuit that controls
these LED lights.
My problem is that I want to essentailly block that large piece of code into a "Sub VI" but I still want to use that
code to control THAT VI's front panal. This would allow me to, in the future, make an automated sequence that can
still use this light show without opening another VI's front panal.
If anyone has used Simulink this is the exact same thing as its grouping function...

Are you asking how to control the front panel of one VI from the front panel of one of its subVIs (or another VI)? Is so, check out VI server. VI server functions are found on the Application Control palette. For a short demo, right click on one of your controls and select Create»Reference. You will be switched to the block diagram and have a reference node attached to your cursor. Drop it. Now go to the Application Control palette and select and drop a Property Node. Connect the newly created reference to the Property Node top left terminal. Click the Property Node's Property area and scroll down to the Value property and select it. Right click on the Value and select Change to Write. Wire a value to this input and it will change the value of the control. You now have a method that allows you to change the value of a control from another VI.
Some caveats. This can be slow. It is synchronous, meaning that the function will not return until the front panel has been updated. If you want to do a lot of controls at once, use the VI property Defer Panel Updates to turn updates of the front panel off while you are writing to it. Don't forget to turn it back on. If you can use a terminal or local variable, do not use the Value property.
My apologies if I have misinterpreted your request. Let us know if you need more info.

• Dialog box problem when controlling front panel remotely

I have encountered an issue with the Web Publishing Tool- I have a VI that calls a subvi that uses the Promt User for Input function. When controlling the front panel from another computer I get a message saying that you "Cannot control subVI front panels remotely" and points you to the machine actually running LabView to enter the information in the Prompt User dialog box. I set the subVI front panel to show when called, which does show the front panel of the subVI, but still get the error related to the dialog box.
Is there any way to make this work? Am I missing something obvious?
Thanks,
Nathan

Hi Nathan.
There are some limitations with dialog boxes in remote applications. This tutorial has some good examples and explanations on functionality to avoid with web applications. Additionally, the LabVIEW online Help offers some general guidance for Viewing and Controlling Front Panels Remotely, which may help you in further developing your application.
Hope that helps!

• Enabling / Disabling graphs and opening a new Front Panel Window

Hi,
I have a simple application of showing 12 analog signals on 12 different graphs placed vertically in aligned position. I have to develop a user interface so that if user wants to display signal no. 1, 4 and 6 out of total 12 signals, he should make selection using check boxes and click a re-draw button. It should result in opening a separate window with these three signals displayed as separate graphs aligned vertically and adjusted to fit window size. Similarly later user can change his selection of displaying signals (from same acquired data) say 1, 3, 5, 6, 8, 9, 11 & 12 and click Redraw button. It should result in opening a new Window showing all these signals as separate graphs which are aligned vertically and resized to fit the window. Now I have two major issues in this context.
1) I have been searching LabView help to locate a way to open a new window for this purpose but I failed to locate any way for it. As per my limited knowledge, it seems that we cannot have multiple "Front Panel" windows in Labview.
2) For the graph I could not locate a control to enable/disable a graph so that it appears or vanishes. Is there any way to achieve it?
I shall appreciate your valuable advice. I shifted from "Lab View Signal Express" to "Lab View" in order to achieve this user interface design but I am still not successful in finding a good solution for this application.
Regards
Mnuet

Hi Mnuet,
You can do what was said above. Here is a KB on dynamically loading VIs. It looks something like this.
Dynamically loaded VIs are loaded at the point in code while running, as opposed to being loaded when the parent VI is loaded into memory like normal subVIs. You can make a reference to them and then control the front panel appearance, their run status, etc with property nodes and invoke nodes.

• How to create two front panels

Hi in my application i am using two Monitors ..
so i like to use one monitor for Vision display and control operation (Front panel )
And another For Motion Control Front panel .. is it possible to do this ..
(In this case How to split my Front panel of my Vi ..)

Hi
If we use Border Layout, the Panels which are added to the main panel are not displaying properly.
Solution is to use BoxLayout with AXIS parameter. Statement looks like this:
mainPanel.setLayout(new BoxLayout(mainPanel, BoxLayout(PAGE_AXIS));

• Best Way to Host Front Panel in Web Browser

Hello All
I am almost confused with all methodology that Labview have to host the Top Level front panel in Web browser. My requirement is to Monitor and control the Front Panel from remote location using web browser, but without installing any LV Runtime engine in Client machine. Also I want to stream the Videos in same or different page. Which is the best way to do this?. Web-service or CGI
Thanks & Regards
Rigilkumar

Rigilkumar,
If you don't want to install the LV runtime engine, that rules out the remote front panels. However, you should still be able to build a web service to do what you want. This will be a bit more tedious because you'll have to build a thin client to have an interface with the web service. You can find an example of a thin client built in Adobe Flex here.
If you're looking at streaming video as well, I recommend you look over Streaming IMAQ Images Over a Network (or Internet)
Hope this helps,
