Running a report from a pl/sql procedure

I'm trying to execute a report from a oracle procedure using UTL_HTTP.request and I keep getting a 'User-Defined Exception' error. Can anyone see what I'm doing wrong or have any other suggestions what might be wrong? Using Reports6i and Oracle 8.1.7. When I run the report directly from the browser to the printer it runs perfectly.
create or replace procedure p_test
v_ret varchar2(4000);
v_url varchar2(2000);
begin
v_url:= 'http://webserver:80/dev60cgi/rwcgi60?server=Rep-server-name+report=C:/report_loation.RDF+DESTYPE=printer+Desname=printer_name+userid=userid/password@db';
v_ret := UTL_HTTP.request(v_url);
end p_test;

Cheryl, try replacing the ":" in your URL with the "escaped" version of the colon character instead: "%3a". (Thus your URL would read
"...report=C%3a/report_location...".) Also, be sure that any other spaces in the URL are passed as either "+" or "%20".
UTL_HTTP.request is much more sensitive to reserved characters on the URL than most browsers are (especially IE).

  • Basic Report Run from a PL/SQL Procedure

    I am hosed trying to start a BI Publisher report from a PL/SQL procedure. Basically, I have a procedure with a local variable defined as an XMLType. I need to call an RTF source, pass the xmlfile in and tell the RTF Engine where to send the output.
    The users guide implies that it involves calls to a Java program and I am totally ignorant of Java.
    I have successfully linked the RTF source into the XML_Publisher application and previewed it against a known data set. hat works.
    So, if I have a PL/SQL package with the local variable L_XML defined as XMLTYPE
    and an output file L_OUTBUT defined as VARCHAR2(100), what do I use to call the RTF Processor and generate the report to the output file?
    That is
    declare
    l_xml xmltype;
    l_output varchar2(100);
    begin
    -- stuff to build the xml variable
    -- insert the call to FTP Processor here Apparently, it should be
    -- something like
    package.procedure('linked_rtf file name', l_xml, l_output);
    end;
    If this calls a Java script, would also appreciate a sample copy of the script.
    My need is desperate so any assistance will be greatly appreciated.
    Many thanks
    Frank

    I don't think you can. The parameters passed to a VB dll are formatted differently than a C dll, especially strings. I know a C program has to use special data structures when working with a VB dll, and this is basically what Oracle is doing.
    It should be possible, however, to create a C dll that acts as a wrapper for the VB dll. I'm not sure this would save you anything, though. If you have to do that you may as well write the function in C.

  • Run multiple reports from PL/SQL

    I am planning to run reports from a PL/SQL batch program. My requirement is i need to generate multiple(around 50) reports with only a difference in one numeric parameter which will go from 1 to 50. I am planning to invoke the report inside a loop which goes from 1..50. I heard that i need to use a utl_http package which i havent used till now. Does somone has a sample code for running a report from pl/sql. i need it ASAP. Thanks in advance

    hi rejesh,
    we have an pl/sql API in reports to do exactly what you want to do.
    The Reports Event Driven Publishing API
    find the documentation including examples in the reports getting
    started on technet.

  • How to run a report from WCF

    hi,
    I am trying to run a report from a WCF service application, and then render it in PDF Format to a caller WPF application. But I cant get it! In more detail, this is what my app should do
    1. from WPF, call a web service procedure, pass a report name, report path and parameters. Report is store at the same server where Web Service is installed
    2. WCF procedure loads report, set parameters, retrieve data from DB and renders it as an array of bytes
    3. WPF gets the array, save it into a PDF file, then open it.
    this is the code of the WCF procedure.
        Function DownloadCRReport(codEnte As String, connString As String, reportDir As String, reportName As String, Parameters As Dictionary(Of String, Object)) As Byte() Implements IGesiService.DownloadCRReport

                    bytes = infile.ReadBytes(CInt(fs.Length))
                    logFile.WriteLine("render pdf. fine")
                    logFile.Close()
                    Return bytes
                Catch ex As Exception
                    logFile.WriteLine("vbCrLf & ex.Message & vbCrLf & ex.InnerException.Message)
                    logFile.Close()
                    Return Nothing
                End Try
            Catch ex As Exception
                logFile.WriteLine("vbCrLf & ex.Message & "-" & vbCrLf & ex.InnerException.Message)
                logFile.Close()
                Return Nothing
            End Try
        End Function
    I detected that error occurs on rep.ExportToStream(ExportFormatType.PortableDocFormat). I should point out that the same procedure works under WPF application. In the WCF server I installed CR Runtime engine for .NET framework (13.0.9.1312) and CR version for Microsoft Visual Studio (same version). Moreover, all DB operations are stored into the report, so I should not pass any dataset, just parameters.
    Anyway, just to begin, I tried to call a simple report with just two string parameters and no queries, but I alwais get error ("An exception of type 'System.NullReferenceException' occurred in MyApp... Object reference not set to an instance of an object)!
    How can I make it work? thanks for help

    hi Ludek,
    Im trying to change DB connection info at runtime for all of the report tables. this is the code I used in my Web Service
              Function DownloadCRReport(...)
    If rep.DataSourceConnections.Count > 0 Then
       Dim conn As New ConnectionInfo
       Dim tabLogon As TableLogOnInfo
       conn.ServerName = "10.10.15.90" 'IP address of DB server
       conn.DatabaseName = "MyDB"   'Database name as set in TNSNAMES.ORA
       conn.UserID = "newuser"
       conn.Password = "newpwd"
       For Each t As Table In rep.Database.Tables
          tabLogon = t.LogOnInfo
          tabLogon.ConnectionInfo = conn
          t.ApplyLogOnInfo(tabLogon)
          logFile.WriteLine("changed logon tab. " & t.Name)
       Next
       rep.Refresh()
       logFile.WriteLine("changed data source connection")
    End If
    'set parameters
    If Not IsNothing(Parameters) Then
       For Each i In Parameters
          rep.SetParameterValue(i.Key, i.Value)
          logFile.WriteLine("set parameter" & i.Key & " - " & i.Value)
       Next
    End If
    fs = rep.ExportToStream(ExportFormatType.PortableDocFormat)
              End Function
    that comes to an error on rep.ExportToStream: "Unable to access database".
    Running web service in debug mode, I noticed that, after t.ApplyLogonInfo(tabLogon), the new ConnectionInfo has "password" property empty. Maybe this could cause the error, or is there some mistake in the new connectioninfo?

    Your code seems to be implementing metalink note 139546.1 - Using Reports parameter forms with RUN_REPORT_OBJECT on the web.
    For what I can see, the P_ACTION parameter should end in ?...
    i.e.
    P_ACTION=http://<hostname.domain:port>/reports/rwservlet?'
    set_report_object_property (
    repid,
    report_other,
    'paramform=yes P_USER_CONNECT='
    || vc_connect
    || ' P_SERVERNAME='
    || v_reportserv
    || ' P_ACTION='
    || v_report_url
    || '/reports/rwservlet?'
    );If this does not fix your problem, then to troubleshoot further you would have to post the code in your Before Parameter Form trigger of your report.
    Hope this helps,
    UPDATE:
    If the above does not fix your problem, my guess is that report name is not being generated in the hidden runtime values build by the code in the Before Parameter Form trigger.
    i.e.
    http://localhost:8889/reports/rwservlet?report=&destype=cache&desformat=PDF
    The above code will throw error REP-52005: The specified key report does not exist in key map file.

    Yes, I have replace the userid with scott/tiger@orcl with i6menu/i6menu@vbs and also replace the OAS server's name as you have suggested.
    declare
         REP_URL varchar2(2000);
    begin

    WEB.SHOW_DOCUMENT(REP_URL,'_BLANK');
    end;
    I had the 2nd code also but both r not working on my machine ......... !!
    I have made the following setting on my machine:
    1. Registry -> HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE -> SOFTWARE-> ORACLE-> KEY_DevSuiteHome1->FORMS_PATH ->
    Values is : D:\vision_soft\VSS\exe
    2. Registry -> HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE -> SOFTWARE-> ORACLE-> KEY_DevSuiteHome1->REPORTS_PATH ->
    Values is : D:\vision_soft\VSS\exe
    3. Entry made in the DevSuiteHome_1\forms\server ->default.env
    FORMS_PATH=D:\vision_soft\VSS\exe
    4. Entry made in the DevSuiteHome_1\reports\confr ->rwservlet.properties
    #SERVER= rep10
    As my forms is working well & but the report are not able to call.
    Could you please let me know is there is any other mandatory setting required for the report 10g.

  • How to run ADDM report from client?

    Hi,
    I want to run ADDM report from the client and get the report in my machine?/
    in other words while connecting to sqlplus from my machine if i invoke @?/rdbms/admin/ >> it selects local oracle home..
    Any suggestion to set as if run the remote sql's from sqlplus?/
    Thanks,
    Raman

    You can run the individual built-in packages from SQL*Plus from a client.
    You can also open a browser session to the OEM Grid Server if you know its fully qualified host name or IP Address on your network.
    Be sure, however, that you are licensed to do so. ADDM requires the diagnostic pack license.

  • Generating an xml from a pl/sql procedure

    Hi Friends,
    I have come up with a requirement to generate an xml from a pl/sql procedure.
    I did some R & D and also got some sample procedures but could not understand the datatypes being used.
    The procedure declares variables like this:
    doc                  xmldom.DOMDocument;
    mainNode         xmldom.DOMNode;
    headerElem      xmldom.DOMElement; Pls could anyone tell what do these xmldom.DOMDocument, xmldom.DOMNode and xmldom.DOMElement mean?
    Later in the procedure, these variables are assigned values like
    doc      := xmldom.newDOMDocument;
    mainNode := xmldom.makenode(doc); This went a bouncer on me.
    Pls help.
    Thanks in advance ...!

  • Error running 9i reports from forms.

    Hi folks,
    i am having problems running 9i reports from a form.
    i have installed Oracle 9iDS on a Win XP machine with 256 MB RAM and a Pentium 1.4Ghz processor.
    i also have a local Oracle 9i database. i have created several reports that i am trying to run from some forms but all efforts to date have failed.
    below is some sample code.
    declare
    v_rid report_object;
    v_rjob varchar2(100);
    v_rptstatus varchar2(100);
    v_jobid varchar2(100);
    BEGIN
    /*get handle to report object itself*/
    v_rid := find_report_object('pbranchlist');
    set_report_object_property(v_rid,REPORT_EXECUTION_MODE,BATCH);
    set_report_object_property(v_rid,REPORT_DESFORMAT,'htmlcss');
    set_report_object_property(v_rid,REPORT_DESTYPE,'CACHE');
    set_report_object_property(v_rid,REPORT_SERVER,'repsrv');
    set_report_object_property(v_rid,REPORT_COMM_MODE,synchronous);
    v_rjob := run_report_object(v_rid);
    v_rptstatus := report_object_status(v_rjob);
    while v_rptstatus in ('RUNNING','OPENING_REPORT','ENQUEUED') loop
         v_rptstatus := report_object_status(v_rjob);
         message(v_rptstatus);
    end loop;
    if v_rptstatus = 'FINISHED' then
         /*display report in browser*/
    --      web.show_document('http://steve:8888/reports/rwservlet/getjobid'||
    --      substr(v_rptsvrjob,instr(v_rptsvrjob,'_',-1)+1)||'?'||'server=repsrv','_blank');
    web.show_document('/reports/rwservlet/getjobid'||substr(v_rjob,instr(v_rjob,'_',-1)+1)||'?'||'server=repsrv','_blank');
    else
         message('error running Report');
    end if;
    end;
    pbranchlist is defined in the form,
    repsrv is a report server i installed and explicitly started.
    on clicking the button to run the above code, i get a message on the browser status bar as follows
    opening http://steve:8888/reports/rwservlet/getjobid11?server=repsrv...
    that's it. it stays like that forever and a progress bar showing the status of the operation gets to the halfway mark and stays there for up to 15 minutes.
    I eventually halted the operation by clicking the stop button of the browser. The form then becomes totally non-responsive with the mouse indicator changing to the hour-glass shape and a small vertical bar moving rapidly back and forth at the bottom of the form window.
    My only recourse then is to explicitly close the browser window.
    I have already configured Reports to run in non single sign-on mode by setting SINGLESIGNON=NO in the rwservlet.properties file.
    Is there anything i have not done properly?
    Thanks in advance.

    Steve,
    can you check the Reports cache directory if the Reports file got created? I would assume yes, but better check.

    You should use UTL_HTTP package, but before it install the JVM into DB

    Hello,
    You can use rwrun. Since 9.0.2 , it is no more possible to DISPLAY the output on the screen , but you can generate a file (HTML , PDF , RTF , ..) and then open the file generated.
    EX: rwrun report=c:\temp\myrep.rdf destype=file desname=c:\temp\myrep.pdf desformat=pdf userid=scott/tiger@mydb P_1=param1_value ...
