Run java and .jar app in terminal?
I've make/install some commandline programs in the past, but my tiny experience has failed me for this java file.
Ipswitch has a java program that they provide that provides encrypted ftp transport via https. Here is the relevant passage from their guide:
To "install" MOVEit Xfer under Java, simply extract the contents of the MOVEit Xfer for Java archive file into a directory. To run MOVEit Xfer, you will either need to have a Java runtime executable in your command-line "executable path" or explicitly provide a path to that executable in the command line.
OK, the folder contains a xfer.jar file, some example .bat files and the html/support for their help guide.
Seeing as it's a .jar and not a .java file makes me think I could drop it in my /local/ folder.
I believe /local is in my PATH, but I'm finding no java love.
I had thought the .jar was executable, but I'm showing my ignorance. How would my command look like with the executable it's looking for? thanx, samHi Sam,
You can indeed launch a jar file from the command line, with the following command:
java -jar yourfile.jar
As well as this you can assign "Jar Launcher" as the default app. to use when you double-click a jar file, as follows (I don't believe you need the developer tools installed for this):

Is there something I can do so I don't have to be in the same directory as the java.exe and javac.exe in order to use to run and compile?

Firefox (v. 18.0.1) will not run my school programs any more since the Java scare. It also is choking at running screencast-o-matic.
And this is happening on both my computers not just one.
I have emptied Java cache, emptied the browser caches, downloaded the latest Java, Reinstalled it. Cleared caches again, etc., etc., etc.
Firefox will not run Java and I have to use IE which is the only browser that I have gotten the scripts to function so that I can use my programs.Been there done that. Actually I have even install a fresh Firefox on virgin win8 64-bit laptop (without synchronising to my firefox in general) with the absolutely latest Java - didn't help either. And my test page is not the only one, but as I did this myself I know exactly the contents.
Since then my Firefox is in sync... well more or less as it seems it only sync some ways but that is another matter... but at least most of my stuff is back in place.
What I know is that the egg.html takes forever to load, and that the java part never shows. I think that this goes for most Java places, but I do remember that it was not always the case. Right now even the Oracle test page can't find Java, and I know it could at some point. Reinstalling tells me I already got Java, so it is there, likewise it is active in the plugin window. But some parameter some where must have gone haywire. -

Running ssh command from java and then answering password prompt
Hi,
I have a situation that has not solved yet. I am running ssh command from unix terminal without any problem, and then i enter password.
For example :
[oracle@fuata]:/export/home/oracle> ssh -N [email protected] -L 9901:127.0.0.1:9999
Password:
It is working. I have question that how can i perform this in java? I am thinking that i can run ssh command by using Runtime Class, it is ok. But how can i answer the password? I am a bit confused. Is there any example looks like this?

Thanx. Firstly i insisted to do this without jsch but actually this is harder than jsch. I edit some of code pieces PortForwardingL.java and could run it. It works problem-free. Could you say why you "insisted" on this approach. It can't be for speed+ since jsch is very fast. It can't be for portability+ since jsch is portable but the use of Runtime.exec() requires the installation of ssh software. It can't be because of limitations+ since jsch is a fully featured library. It can't be for security+ since jsch is secure. It can't be for ease of use+ since jsch is much easier to use than ssh with Runtime.exec(). Unless it's a licensing issue, it can't be for commercial+ reasons since jsch is free. The only reason I can think of why one would "insisted" on this approach is if it is for some college project. -

I have just bought a new laptop but I can't run and compile Java programs using the javac filename.java command in the command prompt. I know I have to download something but I am not sure what link. If you just want to run java applications, you just need the JRE: J2SE 5.0 JRE
If you want to compile java source code, you need the JDK: J2SE 5.0 JDK
It includes also the JRE. Recommended is also the J2SE 5.0 Documentation that contains the javadoc API that describes all the Java classes.

How to run jmap and jhat in Java 1.4

I need a histogram to analyse the heap memory details for the weblogic managed servers in a production environment. I was planing to use the *jmap -histo PID* command to analyse it. But my java process is running on v1.4.2.10. I have heard jmap is only available from JDK 1.5 onwards. I cannot upgrade the java version of the application.
Q1. Is there any way to get jmap for 1.4. If yes, can someone please provide a link?
Q2. This might be a little naive but is it possible that i install java 1.6 in another location in the system, run jmap and jhat in that and use the PID of the current JVM process which i want to dump?
Q3. Just another generic question - is the heap dump of jmap portable across all OS and Java verisions for analysis with jhat?

I use SAP Infoview for work. To modify reports it requires a Java script to run. I had it set up in the previous version of ff to always allow from this specific site and it worked wonderfully. Now, in the new version, despite following all of the instructions from others, I cannot do my work because I cannot run Java script. I can still run it in Safari, but Safari is a last resort for me to use. I prefer Firefox and have all of my links stored there.
Some sites are not fully compatible with Firefox 4's new HTML5 rendering engine. Can you turn that off and test without it? Here are the steps:
(1) Open a new tab, then type or paste '''about:config''' in the address bar and press Enter. Click the button promising to be careful.
(2) In the filter box, type or paste '''html5''' and pause while the list is filtered
(3) Double-click '''html5.parser.enable''' to toggle it to false (it should turn bold).
Then change back to the SAP tab and reload the page.

Hi all,
Do you have any idea about how to run a Java task in taskbar on windows. I am writing a application in Java and it needs to monitor mouse movements. I need to collect the file paths it selects and then drag and drop on Shortcut Icon on Desktop which finally triggers the actual GUI application written in Java where again these files are fed as input. If you have any Idea or suggessions about how to do this.

To create a shortcut on your desktop w2k/xp:
1. right click on desktop, select new: Shortcut
2. in "Type location of item" type:
"javaw -classpath C:\ebjava\ DragTest"
(Replace c:\ebjava\ with location of your Java app and DragTest with name of your app)
3. Click next, and enter a name for your shortcut and click finishFor your Java app.. do something like this.

When you drag files, or other shortcuts onto your shortcut the app will start and the full file name (including full path) will show up as a string argument. This is the best you're going to get.
