Running the java compiler

I have a problem running programs from the DOS prompt. When I type the command javac Welcome.java, everything runs okay. I can view the file Welcome.class. But when I type the command java Welcome, I get the following error message: Exception in thread "main" java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: Welcome.
Someone earlier suggested using Class Path to make sure the compiler is using the correct path. This did not make a difference. So I am stuck.

Oh, my God!!! You are a lifesaver. That worked. I thought when someone suggested that earlier that I had tried every combination possible, but it never worked. That did the trick!!! Thanks again!!!

  • Run time java compiler

    Last year I researched oracle spatial technology and created prototype using oracle 9i, standalone oc4j. In order to start oc4j, i had to download java 1.4.2 from sun site. everything worked fine.
    Now I am expanding on the prototype on different machine but am using oracle 10g. I followed the same steps (installed 10g, oc4j, downloaded j2se 1.4.2 and installed). When I start oc4j by following command
    java -jar oc4j.jar, I get
    error message stating Error loading package at file:/E:/oracle_downloads/oc4j/j2ee/home/applications/admin_ejb.jar, javac.exe no

    specify the location of your java compiler in server.xml using the <java-compil
    er .../> tag.
    I am not sure how do I specify location of java compiler in server.xml file sysntactically. I do not not recall this step with oracle 9i.
    I edited server.xml and http-wev-site.xml as per instructions in my spatial class for mapviewer application but I need help on how to enter the location of java compiler file in server.xml file.
    Thank you

    You cannot use the JRE java to start oc4j. Must install a complete 1.4.2 J2SDK (not JRE) then use the java binary under its bin directory to start oc4j (not the one under jre/bin directory).

    Regards,

    I have imported .class file into CMC and trying to invoke the .class file by another java program from eclipse..When i tried to invoke the .class in cmc, i am getting an error msg, mentioned above. I thought there might be version conflict. So i changed the java complier version to 1.5 in my Eclipse. After that is done again i am facing the same problem.
    Can anyone help me to resolve this issue?
    Thanks in Advance.

    i have installed BO SDK 3.1 , Service pack 3. It comes woth JDK 1.5 version. i have not done any chnages to it. I impoprted all the jar files related to BO into eclipse.
    1)  Actually, i am writing java code on eclipse. When i run code from the eclipse, it creates a session to cmc and creates folder structure what i need.
    2)  But the thing is, that code needs to run, when i import the .class file into cmc. The process how i imported the .class file to cmc.
    Manage> Add> Program File-->Java (Check Box). In this way i added java class file from the eclipse workspace (class file from the bin directory).
    3) So when i run the .class file externally by another java program or also when i log in to CMC and run that .class file, the instance shows sucess, but when i see the logfile i am getting an exception that which i mentioned above.
    If my method is worng can you please let me know the stepts how to run java program in cmc.

    Make sure you take package structure into account.
    If you have say
    package testing.things;
    public class Test
        public static void main(String[] args)
            System.out.println("World Hello");
    }in file Test.java, you compile it with (assuming your current working directory is at the folder in which the source file is located).
    javac -d . Test.javaand run it with
    java testing.things.TestThe -d . option creates the output at the current directory (with a folder structure matching your package structure).

    pls help... its very urgent

    Is the java class you compiled/calling in the default package? If it is not, you will have to call it by the fully qualified name.
    e.g.
    package com.mycompany.myproject;
    public class MyClass {
        public static void main(String[] args) { }
    }This would be called as "Java com.mycompany.myproject.MyClass" and must contain a main method with signature as above.
    You would have to call this from folder where the compiled classes are located. If using package, you would call from directory at level of top most package so com folder in this example as Java will look at each package name in qualified name and try to traverse directories with those same names to get to .class file matching class name specified. To avoid this, your newly compiled .class files must also be in your classpath.
    Hopefully that helps.

  • Invoking the java compiler from programs

    HI, I'm a high school java student in the AP Java course. A project that I have been interested in for a while is making a simple IDE, but to do this I need to compile and run programs from within my program.
    What I have tried:
    The method Compiler.compileClasses("name of file i wanted to compile");
    The method System.loadLibrary(System.getProperty("java.compiler"));
    The JavaCompiler class in javax.tools. this is my source code.
    import javax.tools.*;
    public class CompileTest
         public static void main(String[] args)
              String fileToCompile ="Test.java";
              JavaCompiler compiler = ToolProvider.getSystemJavaCompiler();
              int compilationResult =     compiler.run(null, null, null, fileToCompile);
              if(compilationResult == 0)
                   System.out.println("Compilation is successful");
              else
                   System.out.println("Compilation Failed");
    After this threw NullPointerExceptions I put the line System.out.println(ToolProvider.getSystemJavaCompiler()); and the output was null.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Also, if anyone knows how to run the subsequent class file, that would also be a big help

    To run the program, load the class file with a classloader, which will give you a Class object. You then use reflection to find the public static void main(String[] args) Method object, then use Method's invoke method to call main.
    You should deal with any exceptions from the program so that it doesn't break your IDE.
    It would probably be a good idea to run the program in its own classloader which you could trash after it finishes running so you don't leave resources hanging around.
    And finally you probably need to deal with the case where the program calls System.exit(). That could be tricky. (translation, I haven't the foggiest idea how to handle it but I'm sure its possible).
    Also there is the issue of background threads (non daemon and daemon) running after main completes. What ya gonna do?
    Runtime.exec() is looking mighty attractive right now.

  • Running the Java Card 2.1.2 Development on win98

    Hi,
    I just installed the Java Card(TM) Development Kit Version 2.1.2 on my windows 98 OS with jdk 1.3.1.
    I set all the Environment Variables for Windows.
    I also compiled the demos, but I'm unable to run the apdutool. I get a "Bad command or file name".
    I read in the readme file that one of the Supported Platforms is Windows NT 4.0 , but it doesn't say windows 98, can this be my problem ? do I have to reinstall my computer with window NT to develop a java card applet ? can I use windows 2000 ?

    Hello.No, there is no need to test this toolkit under Windows 2000.It supposed that this packages is working under Windows 98.
    I think the problem is that you did not set right the PATH and CLASSPATH of the JC 2.1.2 in the autoexec.Try the followings(see if it is working):
    ///PATH
    set PATH=c:\jc212\bin;%PATH%
    if the jc212 is the directory that you installed this package.
    ///CLASSPATH
    set CLASSPATH=%CLASSPATH%;C:\jc212\lib\api21.jar
    set CLASSPATH=%CLASSPATH%;c:\jc212\lib\converter.jar
    If you still have problems try to add te following line in the autoexec.bat
    set CLASSPATH=%CLASSPATH%;c:\jc212\samples
    I think this will help you.
