Running X without a config file...

hi,
first post, so go easy on me.
i have a thinkpad t21 with a savage video card that uses 8mb of video ram.
i've been working my way through the beginners guide wiki, and had some questions about running x without an xorg.conf file.
i am able to start x as root and as a regular user without an xorg.conf file present, and all seems fine. yet when i review my /var/log/Xorg.0.log in nano, i see two (ee) error lines:
one says dri isn't enabled, and
the other says insufficient videoram for 3d--try a lower color depth or a smaller desktop.
do i really need to worry about either of those? i'm not a gamer, and do not intend to start gaming with this laptop.
if i did decide to try to fix those errors, is the only way to make the changes to use a xorg.conf file? or can i make the changes in some other way?
i'd really like to not have to use an xorg.conf as when i did try to use one, i had more (ee) lines than what i'm getting without using one.
should i just procees with installing openbox?
any and all comments will be appreciated; thanks in advance...

In my opinion neither error is anything to worry about. As long as it's running at a resolution that is acceptable to you. With that card it's not going to be blazing fast, videos might be a tad choppy, but I'll get you by for the basic stuff.

I've gotten myself in a situation and can't find my way out. I've got a project that does not use any business components. Just as a test, I created a business component (View Object, I think - can't remember for sure), and then deleted it and another file or two associated with the object shortly thereafter. I am assuming the error is related to the business object that is no longer there. My guess is that there is some reference somewhere that is telling JDev that there are business components associated with this project. I just can't find where that reference is (or my assumption is wrong ;) ).
Does my project need the bc4j.xcfg file if it does not use any business components? Can anyone provide any guidance?

Thanks for the reply. I looked at the link supplied but didn't see how that could help me. Could you provide a little detail regarding what I need to do or where I need to look?
And I want to make clear that I do not have and do not want any ADF components in my project at this time. I am simply looking to get my non-ADF project running locally as it used to do before I added and then deleted a component.

while i run the jboss,it will throw exception of fileNotFoundException

Which version of JBoss are you using? I have successfully run 4.2.x off the grid but I typically use schema:<faces-config xmlns="http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/javaee"
              xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance"
              xsi:schemaLocation="http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/javaee http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/javaee/web-facesconfig_1_2.xsd"
              version="1.2">Note that I did not need to obtain copies of the files myself for use locally.

Error in running package with config file

I have a 2012 package and it is referring to a config file which has the DB connectionstring. This config file was created through the "Package Configuration Organizer". When I execute the package through VS 2012, it works fine(Reads the config
from config file), but I get the below error when I run from DTEXEC.

SQL Azure Reporting - There was an exception running the extensions specified in the config file. --- Maximum request length exceeded.

I am trying to deploy an RDL file (5MB) to SQL Azure Reporting server in South Central US using the deploy function in SQL Server Data Tools but facing the following error during deployment to Azure Reporting server.
"There was an exception running the extensions specified in the config file. ---> Maximum request length exceeded."
Is there any limit on the size of RDL files which can be deployed to Azure Reporting server? I have seen some online posts which talk about increasing the maxRequestLength in httpruntime of web.config in Reporting server. But in case of Azure Reporting server
how can be make modification to this configuration?
I have tried to upload it directly to SQL Azure Reporting server from the Management Portal --> Upload Report function which still resulted in error.

Dashboard grouping without change in Config files

Hi Experts,
This has been asked many times,
To group the dashboards , we need to create the required dashboards under the same Group folder and need to ensure that the entry in the config file is set correctly.
Now here my problem starts ,
Lets consider that the concerned entry in the config file has been set to default which is I think 15.
Test Dashboard should have Three dashboards tagged as drop down for Test Dashboard,i.e when user clicks on Test dashboard he should see

C
Now my problem is when someone who has access to more than 15 dashboards logs in , he sees the drop down menu dashboards but when a user who has access to let say 10 dashboards then he does not sees the required dashboards grouped but the individual dashboards appear separately i.e A B C.
I don't want to make any change in Config file now, is there anyway we can achieve this.

Thanks for the reply, but I don't have any occurrence of the mentioned entry at all.
Still for some users I can see the grouping work while for some the grouping does not works. I am really wondering about this happening.
As per Oracle Presentation Administration Guide
"Oracle Business Intelligence typically displays the names of individual dashboards across the top of
the screen. To minimize the amount of screen space used for this, when there are more than 15
dashboard names to display, Oracle Business Intelligence creates a drop-down list from which users can choose the dashboard to view."
I don't think this requires a entry, having a entry is important only when you want to control the number of dashboards after which the drop down should work.
I would really like to know if anyone else has faced this issue before.
If anyone has any suggestion or can throw some light on this, it would be really helpful.

How to I import MAX 4.6 config files into MAX 5.5? Missing Data Neighborhood. Strain gage set up is different.

I have been trying to import my config file from MAX 4.6 into a new system running MAX 5.5 and daq 9.8.
The data neighborhood does not appear, however my application sees the information. How can this be remedied? Start over? I have a lot of inputs and would rather not have to recreate all of them.
What is the difference between the strain gage settings in MAX 4.6 and MAX 5.5? The selection box for the bridge in 4.6 has a selection for "let niDAQ choose". Seems that is necessary to use the 4.6 config data. Try though I might, the readings in 5.5 do not match those in 4.6.     Is there a work around fo this? I don't want to have to perform an entire system calibration.

Hardware: PXI chassis with bridge to a PC. SCXI-1520 input card.
Software: Old system: Windows XP SP2 running MAX 4.6 with niDAQmx 9.0.2,   programming in LabView 2011
                   New system: Windows 7 running MAX 5.5 with niDAQmx 9.8. Programming in LabView 2013
5.5: What is the gage factor? Is that the mv/v sensitivity of the load cell?
5.5: Asks for Gage resistance, easy to look up and I entered the data, 350.
5.5: How do I determine the Initial Voltage?
5.5: No choice of using V Excitation for scaling
5.5: Is Full Bridge I the same as 4.6 Full Bridge?
5.5: Requires use of Strain in scale factor
4.6: Requires use of Volts in scale factor (flags an error if I try Strain and requests Volts)
4.6: Choosing to use Vex for scaling makes readings look similar to 5.5 readings, but still not correct. ie around -79 in 5.5 and around -50 in 4.6 vs. 5.2 without.
Is there a way to set MAX 5.5 so that it provides the same starin set up function as 4.6? If so, what is it?

[SOLVED] Parsing simple config files in pure bash

I'd like to implement a bash function to parse a simple config file for a script I've wrote. The conifg file contains different sections for different scenarios. Here's an example how it should look like:

As you can see I try to just echo the lines at the moment. And here's the problem: It seems I have some " escape issues, if I run it I get the following output:

I am sure I am missing something simple here, however I am looking for a solution for a few days now - maybe one of the bash gurus on this board can enlighten me ;-).

PS.: I am trying to do this in pure bash because the script also needs to run on embedded machines with very low memory like my router on which I don't have sed or awk or the like. I also know that I could for example just use different config files to circumvent the whole parsing - but I am just curious if this could work the way I like ;-).

Right. But I was trying to show you that the way you were going about it wouldn't work at a very fundamental level.
Without changing too much code just for a quick and dirty demo,

Using an array to collect the good lines from the function allows you to reuse them later for whatever purpose. Although other ways exist, you certainly don't want to do what you originally did.

Urgent: UWL XML Config file

Hi all!
I copied the business object EXTSRV to ZEXTSRV and created a new method zprocess that is mainly a copy of the Process method of the EXTSRV BO just that the creation part of the url is diffirent. I kept the call_browser function.
Then, I assigned this method to a task in the workflow this task is copy of the standard task TS50000075. I added the itemtype to the UWL XML config file and uploaded it to the system successfuly then i cleared the cash.
When i double click on the item in the UWL it partially works. I see the text written in the task but it is supposed to pop up a window. This window doesn't appear.
Can anyone help with that?

Config file from tftp at startup (6509 with Sup720)

Hi together
I will download the config file for my 6509 with Sup720 from a TFTP Server.
I have configerd the GigabitEthernet 5/2, so I can ping the tftp-server. Also I'm able to down&upload files to the tftp-server.
The configuration looks like:

The service config command is also set!
The big problem is, the router comes up normaly and do not access the tftp-server in any way :-(
Have anyone a idea?

I am about to had enough of this moronic container call OC4J that's compatible to to itself.
I did a
1. clean unzip and installation.
2. setup admin account.
3. config the autodeploy in server.xml (Who in their right phreakin mind design a container with no hot deploy nowaday).
4. configure the data source.
5. test data source using a webapp with one page jsp do a JSF jdbc connection.
When try and deploy the error-free webapp (tested in tomcat) using both frontend and autodeploy,a cryptic error occur: could not read mime.types.
I have never see this error before in my life. its in oracle.oc4j.admin.internal.ApplicationDeployer.addApplication
This error happened after I configure my webapp to do phreakin orion-application.xml disable toplink, orion-webapp xml prefer local class file. If I don't get this resolve within couple days, I'll put my career on the line with full force and request we do not use OC4J anywhere in this group.
A M$FT .NET project looks very promising and efficient compare this deployment hell they call OC4J

Thank you Steve for your help. I really do appreciate ppl taking the time to answer questions from n00b like me.
I tried and disable global.libraries and global.tag.libraries when deploy, and at one point the login page (its Spring 1.2.8 + hibernate 3.1.3 + Myface 1.1.4 + acegi 1.0.1 ) came out, but cannot login and without exceptions, so I was guessing acegi poblem. But the spring and hibernate is working, I can see the conn and other activities. And after a couple tries, cannot even get the login page display now in MyFace, with exceptions:

And then after some googling found out there will be code change for this webapp as well.
- change webapp.listener for double instantiation in OC4J (Code Change)
- create new class OrionSessionListener implements HttpSessionListener for session invalidation (Code Change) NEW JAVA CLASS
- acegi j_security_check URL reference change (Code Change, but minor)
I think the container has great performance, but I just wish they can look more to the compatabilities/common practices issues

Deploying 2005 package to server with manifest file, but deployment wont see my config file?

I have a package working and Ive installed it on one server, but cant seem to recall how I got it to see the config file Im using. I tried using a manifest file but it simply wont pick up the config file when running through the wizard. All Im
doing is copying over the manifest file to the server, remoting into the server, then running the package deployment wizard from there. Why would the config file not be seen?

The issue occurs because you didn’t copy the XML Configurations file with the Manifest file and the packages to the new server. To install the manifest file in a new server, we must copy all of the following files:
Manifest file
.dtsx files of the packages
XML Configurations files
If we only copy the manifest file, the deployment will succeed without the package configurations stage but no packages will be installed in reality. If we only copy the Manifest file and the .dtsx files of the packages, the deployment succeeds without the
package configurations stage, and the packages will be installed successfully actually. Only when we copy all of the three type files, the deployment can recognize the package configurations successfully and install the packages properly.

How to run Paypal without payment for test/demo products as a pass thru ?

I have a paid report on my website whereby users go to Paypal to pay for the report first, then my backend system provides the report. From time to time I need to run non-paid reports as teasts or demos. Is there a way to set up a credit card on my account or a process whereby I can run Paypal without payment... as a pass thru ?

What you're explaining is exactly what the sandbox is for: testing and demoing PayPal solutions and the events that are triggered when transactions are completed. It's a recommended practice anyway to keep a copy of your site on a test server somewhere which mirrors everything about your live server except that it works with the sandbox instead of the live PayPal site. That way future development can be done on your test site with the sandbox and not moved to your live site until it's all demoed and proven to be fully functional as expected. It's also a nice place to always have functional demos for any purpose at all. So yes, the sandbox will definitely suit your needs and would be the recommended way to go. With proper integration the test/sandbox site and your live site can easily be switched back and forth using a flag in a config file or a URL parameter, for example. On that note, you could set that sort of thing up on your live site, too, so that everything works in the sandbox when this flag is provided. Then you wouldn't have to maintain separate servers. Again, though, it's recommended for developers to always keep separate test servers anyway.

How can I ensure the integrity of my config files?

I'm designing a system with some powerful features and I would like to make sure that the config files change only through my program. My concern is people running this on any of the Windows systems without a ACL. I was thinking of storing all the config files in Hsqldb and running them as virtual files through my program. This way I can encrypt the data, and enforce it easier through my program's ACL. I was also thinking of running a checksum on the data after any alterations and using this to compare whenever I read the data from there. I realize I can't physically stop someone from deleting the data who's in front of the machine but I'd like to make sure the integrity of my files is solid. I have reasons for designing it this way.

How to save pictures with the config file "Write Key.vi"

hi all,
On my front panel I've few controls pictures containing photos (JPG type) . The user can select the photo he wants using the classic file dialog box.
Usally I use the config files VI's to save the control values from one run to another one. In the config files VIs, I use the polymorphic "write Key.vi" wich accept only booean, I32, U32, path, and string dada type, but no picture !
I've tried the "flatten to string" fonction (picture --> flatten to string --> writekey.vi) , no broken wire but the conversion is very very too long and to heavy (20Mo a key!).
another way, would be to write in a xml file, I've also tried but I've always get the 1104 error: No end tag was found for an XML start/end tag pair.
can someone help me.

You suggest to use the "path" input of the "write key.vi" (configuration file utilities) to retrieve photos that a user would have selected in a previous run. Could be a good solution in a number of applications but what I would like to do is like in a excel or word file. Once a photo has been embeded in one xls file for ex., I find it back each time i open this xls file, even if the original photo's file has been deleted or if my application runs on another computer.
xml file looks interesting for that purpose (i mean used as config file). I can easily store in a xml file a labview picture (like a colored rectangle e.g.) but when i try with a photo (wich is a also a picture) labview returns always the error 1104.
How to fixe this error, or maybe there is another way to store photos in a config file without passing through xml,
