Runtime Error: java.lang.StackOverflowError

Hi all,
I get the runtime error: java.lang.StackOverflowError.
The API says:
java.lang> Class StackOverflowError>
Thrown when a stack overflow occurs because an application recurses too deeply.
But I don't exactly know what does it mean? What am I doing wrong in my code? How can I avoid it?
Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks a lot.

You are recusively calling a method without it ending. Something likepublic void recurse (String fred) {
    if ( fred.equals("flintstone") ) {
        recurse(fred);

    Now, since thats the case how do i resolve this error. That BUGGING the heck out of me!
    Thanks and Peace!

    Hi,
    Check which JRE/JDK is used by your jGRASP.Then set the path environment variables according to that.
    I'm afraid you have multiple jre/jdk in your system and one of that has problem with native libraries.
    Best of luck!!

    Praveen:
    I have already tried this and it did not fix the problem.
    Here is something more bizarre, I get the error when the copied roles are in 3rd folder level after Portal Content.
    For instance:
    1) Portal Content > Test Folder 1 (ZContentAdmin)  ....... NO ERROR
    2) Portal Content > Test Folder 1 > Test Folder 2 (ZContentAdmin) .......... NO ERROR
    3) Portal Content > Test Folder 1 > Test Folder 2 > Test Folder 3 (ZContentAdmin) ..... ERROR
    Just to reiterate, custom roles work fine, it is just when I do a Copy/Delta copy of SAP delivered content roles.....
    Looking for a solution.

  • Runtime error.Java.lang.nullPointerException: null at com.sap.guid.GUID.par

    Hi experts.
    My scenario is File --> PI --> File.
    During the message mapping there are a few RFC lockups.
    I have configured an communication component for the RFC destination, and a Receiver communication channel to the RFC system.
    When I am trying to check the message mapping and the operation mapping from the integration builder every thing works just fine.
    In the interface determination i have configured the rfc parameter for the mapping.
    When I am trying to run the hole process i receive an error saying:"Runtime exception from: java.lang.nullPointerException:
    null at com.sap.guid.GUID.parsHEXguid(guid.java:1015)
    reguars Max

    Did you test your operation mapping??
    Did you provide your RFC communication channel name and import parameters value in paramter tab of Operation mappi
    Yes I did.
    I have tested the operation mapping and it runs just fine.
    Also all the parameters are specified.
    And the communication channel is configured.
    Just to make sure the communication channel is configured well.
    Should it be configured as RFC adepter and connected to the system on which the RFCs are located?
    If this is all of the configuration needed i have already done them.
    Any suggestions?
    Regards Max.

  • Runtime error - java.lang.NullPointerException

    Does anyone know what this runtime error is about?
    Exception in thread "main" java.lang.NullPointerException
    at tst.Test(tst.java:16)
    at tst.main(tst.java:44)
    cheers |:| > )

    yes, it means you are trying to access an index in the array which doesnt exist.
    For example if you have an array of ints:
    int[] someArray = {2, 5, 8, 3, 5};and you try to access the sixth element(it doesnt exist!) like follows:
    int someInt = someArray[5];This code will compile fine but will result in a run-time exception 'nullPointerException'. Note - Array indexes start at 0 is is normally the main cause for null pointer exceptions. Therefore index 5 is trying to access the sixth element in the array.

  • Java.nio package Runtime error java.lang.UnsupportedClassVersionError.

    Hi
    I am using nio package and create a java program for file locking (FileLocking.java).
    Here is the sample
    try {

    channel = new RandomAccessFile(file, "rw").getChannel();
         lock = channel.lock(0, Long.MAX_VALUE, true);

    catch (OverlappingFileLockException e) {

    Even if i try to recompile it in command prompt and run, i got the same error.
    please suggest me how can i overcome this problem.

    UnsupportedClassVersionError means that you are trying to execute a class for a newer version of the JVM on an older version of the JVM.
    Version 48.0 is for Java 1.4, so you have compiled your class with JDK 1.4.
    The computer you are trying to run the class on, has an older version of Java than 1.4 - check it!
    Try recompiling your source files with the "-target" switch, for example if you're running on Java 1.3, try compiling with:
    javac -target 1.3 ... FileLocking.java

    com/sun/rave/designtime/faces/FacetDescriptor
    Possible Source of Error:
    Class Name: com.sun.j2ee.blueprints.ui.design.AbstractBeanInfo
    File Name: AbstractBeanInfo.java
    Method Name: initFacetDescriptors
    Line Number: 366
    I am using the same component in a page in different project and everything is working. This error is not specific to progressbar but to other components I have used. Last time, I had to re-create the project and import all my existing pages to get it resolved.
    Any ideas?? Your help will be highly appreciated.
    Thanks

    Hello there!
    I have tried to do as you said!
    My Libraries are just with DesignTime and Packages with Runtimes.
    What else should i do?
    Just to confirm above is all the stack trace.
    Thanks a lot!

  • Emulator runtime error - java.lang.IllegalAccessException

    Hi
    Im working through some example code, and when i build, everything is fine, with no errors, however when i run in the emulator, even though at this moment the program actually does nothing, its just a skeleton, i get the following error:
    Unable to create MIDlet MyC
    java.lang.IllegalAccessException
    at com.sun.midp.midlet.MIDletState.createMIDlet(MIDletState.java:148)
    at com.sun.midp.midlet.Selector.run(Selector.java:151)
    For hours, i have been pondering over the code, but the answer eludes me as to why i get this error
    Here is the main midlet:
    import javax.microedition.midlet.*;
    import javax.microedition.lcdui.*;
    import javax.microedition.lcdui.game.*;
    public class my extends MIDlet implements CommandListener {
    private MyC canvas;
    public void startApp() {
    if (canvas == null) {
    canvas = new MyC(Display.getDisplay(this));
    Command exitCommand = new Command("Exit", Command.EXIT, 0);
    canvas.addCommand(exitCommand);
    canvas.setCommandListener(this);
    // Start up the canvas
    canvas.start();
    public void pauseApp() {}
    public void destroyApp(boolean unconditional) {
    canvas.stop();
    public void commandAction(Command c, Displayable s) {
    if (c.getCommandType() == Command.EXIT) {
    destroyApp(true);
    notifyDestroyed();
    here is the class it uses:
    import javax.microedition.lcdui.*;
    import javax.microedition.lcdui.game.*;
    import java.util.*;
    import java.io.*;
    public class MyC extends GameCanvas implements Runnable
    private Display display;
    private Sprite playerSprite;
    private boolean sleeping;
    private long framedelay;
    public MyC(Display d)
    super(true);
    display = d;
    framedelay = 33;
    public void start()
    display.setCurrent(this);
    try
    playerSprite = new Sprite(Image.createImage("/player.png"),12,12);
    catch (IOException e){}
    sleeping = false;
    Thread t = new Thread(this);
    t.start();
    public void stop()
    public void run()
    Graphics g = getGraphics();
    while (!sleeping)
    update();
    draw(g);
    try
    Thread.sleep(framedelay);
    catch (InterruptedException ie) {}
    private void update()
    return;
    private void draw(Graphics g)
    playerSprite.paint(g);
    flushGraphics();
    }

    im using j2me, and yes, i have gone straight for
    mobile phone midlet programming. That isn't going to be easy.
    When i remove the
    detail at the end of the constructor, the code wont
    exectute at all. By looking at the code i presented
    here, is there anything noticeable as to why i keep
    getting this error?"Won't execute" doesn't tell me anything.
    Removing the parameter means that you need to do other things to the code because there will be undefined items.
    If you are copying code exactly as it appears in a tutorial then you need to be aware that you might be working with different versions of code (java and midlet) and/or there might be mistakes in the tutorial. Of course if you modified the tutorial code then you could be introducing problems as well. You can look for other sources of documentation which might provide more information as to what a minimal set up looks like.

  • Runtime Error: java.lang.ClassCastException

    My project is to creat a postfix with boolean. I finished my code, it compiled great, than I got an java.lang.ClassCastException. So obviously I have a casting problem. Any help or hints in the right direction would be greatly appreciated.
         import java.util.*;
    import javax.swing.*;
    public class KimbelPostfix
        public static void main(String[] args)
         String expression;
         String token;
         String operator;
         String myString = "true";
         StringTokenizer tokens;
         Boolean operand1, operand2, result = true;
         //create empty stack of pending boolean operands
         Stack operandStack = new Stack();
         expression = JOptionPane.showInputDialog( "Enter postfix expression" );
         tokens = new StringTokenizer(expression);
         while (tokens.hasMoreTokens())
             token = tokens.nextToken();
             if (!isOperator(token))   //operand
                 new Boolean(myString);
                 myString = token;
                 operandStack.push(token);
             //  printStack(operandStack);   //display stack at each step. Debugging
             else
             {   //token is an operator
                 //pop two booleans off stack.
                 //convert popped Object to boolean, extract boolean
                 operand2 = ((Boolean)operandStack.pop()).booleanValue();
                 operand1 = ((Boolean)operandStack.pop()).booleanValue();  //"first" one
              if (token.equals("!"))
                  operandStack.push(token);
                  result = operand1 && !operand2;
              else if (token.equals("&&"))
                  result = operand1 && operand2;
              else if (token.equals("||"))
                  result = operand1 || operand2;
              operandStack.push(new Boolean(result));
         //only object in stack is the answer
         result =  ((Boolean)operandStack.pop()).booleanValue();
         JOptionPane.showMessageDialog(null,expression+" = "+result);
         System.exit(0);
        static boolean isOperator(String t) {
             if (t.equals("!") || t.equals("&&") || t.equals("||"))
                 return true;
             else
                 return false;
        static void printStack( Stack s)
         System.out.print("Stack is: ");
            Iterator items = s.iterator();
            while (items.hasNext())
            System.out.print(items.next()+"  ");
            System.out.println();

    When I run the program and enter "false false ||" I get the slightly more useful error message:
    Exception in thread "main" java.lang.ClassCastException: java.lang.String cannot be cast to java.lang.Boolean\\     at KimbelPostfix.main(KimbelPostfix.java:38)Now line 38 is the one in the else part of the while loop, that says:operand2 = ((Boolean)operandStack.pop()).booleanValue();Evidently what you were casting to a Boolean - operandStack.pop() - is a String. And you can't cast Strings to Booleans like that. So the questions are "what were you expecting to be on the stack?" and "what was actually on the stack?".
    You already have a method that will help answer the second question. As regards the first, if you were expecting a Boolean on the stack you had better go back to whereever you push things onto the stack and see why it's a String not a Boolean.

    I've just read the edit of your last post, and I agree with petes1234. No-one here is going to write the code for you. That's not trying to be discouraging or dismissive: just saying how things are.
    There are signs of dispair in the myString variable, and the way you (attempt to) handle the unary ! operator. If you're tired and "fiddling around" to no productive effect your best bet would be to step away from the computer and do something else for a few hours.

  • Runtime error: java.lang

    I get the following error when running my class which is listed below(complies fine):
    Exception in thread "main" java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: FileComparer
    It is also not just with this class because I tried to run a similar one and I got the same error. Anyone know what this means?
    import java.io.*;
    import java.net.*;
    public class FileComparer
    public static void main (String[] args)
         String line, file="http://condor.depaul.edu/~jpetlick/extra/224/display.txt";
         try
              int lineNum = 0;
              URL URLfile = new URL (file);
              InputStream input = URLfile.openStream();
              BufferedReader buffer = new BufferedReader(new InputStreamReader(input));
              line = buffer.readLine();
              while (line != null)
                   line = buffer.readLine();
                   lineNum++;
              System.out.println(line);
         catch (FileNotFoundException exception)
              System.out.println("The file " + file + " was not found.");
         catch (IOException exception)
              System.out.println(exception);
    }

    nevermind, I figured it out :)

  • Java.lang.StackOverflowError in IE6 but not IE7

    Hi
    We have a report on our production 2004s system, which, when executed in Internet Explorer 6 gives the error "java.lang.StackOverflowError".
    When the same report is executed on a machine with IE7, no error.
    We have 2 laptops with the same spec, different browser types, and again, it breaks on the IE6 machine, and not the IE7 machine (logged in as same user, so not a data / auths issue).
    This error is odd to me, because it looks like a Java error, but seems to be machine specific.
    Any ideas?
    Cheers,
    Andrew

    Its a template which is running, so there was no debugging happening at the time.
    My first thought was perhaps it was something to do with variable calculations which get done in the background, but that won't explain why it works on the IE7 machine and not the IE6 machine.

    I have exhausted several hours searching the web and constructing new projects with no luck. I understand that the StackOverflowError is produced from bad recursion calls and infinite loops, however I can't see this as the case here.
    My current dev stack is eclipse juno (oepe-12.1.1.2.1-juno-distro-win32-x86_64.zip), m2e-wtp, weblogic 12c, Java EE 6 using JSF 2.1
    *If I export the war file using eclipse (Right click the project -> Export -> WAR file) then manually deploy it via the weblogic admin counsel the app works as expected. As soon as I add the project to the server inside eclipse and start the server I can no longer view the page. I noticed that in the autogenerated_ear_ folder per my domain that each project project folder is actually empty.*
    Any help would me MUCH appreciated!!
    UPDATE - Solved the problem! After adding JSF 2.1 in the pom.xml the JSF 2.1 checkbox was checked in project facets, however it did not add the faces-config.xml to the project. I simple created a new xml file named faces-config.xml under the webapp folder and added the following xml:
    <?xml version='1.0' encoding='UTF-8'?>
    <faces-config xmlns="http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/javaee"
    xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance"
    xsi:schemaLocation="http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/javaee
    http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/javaee/web-facesconfig_2_1.xsd" version="2.1">
    <application></application>
    </faces-config>
    I hope this helps others!

    Hi.
    Try this http://oracleradio.blogspot.com/2012/01/error-durante-el-deployment-de-un.html
    It is in spanish, but the important part is that u may correct the issue, installing 11.1.1.5 with the Feature Pack.
    It seems to be happening with processes that have loop formed with boundary event inside a gateway circuit.
    Hope this helps.

    Could you please help how to solve this problem ?
    Thanks

    Hi Werner.
    Its has a sevirity 2. But since its a weeked nothing will progress until monday.
    Regrading to your commect:"... I think it's related to the data to be upgraded. Because the error occurs right after NLS_LANG checking, possibly there's a relationship to this " .
    The error raised at the beggining of the upgrade. Already in second screen
    where you choose the instance you want to upgrade.
    I dought that in this early steps its already collecting information regarding to actual data.
    Can you suggest from your experience a workaround for this problem ?
    Thanks.
