RV220W and iPhone VPN IPSec

Hello there,
I currently have RV042 and I can VPN (pptp though) to it with no prob. I'm considering upgrading to one of these new routers that Cisco has recently brough out.
Before I bit the bullet, I wonder whether this new model is iphone fully ipsec compatible because as of now I just can't use ipsec but pptp.
Thanks

Hi there,
I currently own a rv042 and have no problems to VPN into my network. I've configured the router as a PPTP server and my iPhone connects just fine currently, but I'm looking for an alternative cause the VPN throughput in that scenario is extremely poor. Although there is no reference to max PPTP VPN throughput on the datasheet of the rv042, I had expected it to be similar to IPsec throughput which is detailed on that datasheet.
I even created a case and haven't received, to my opinion l, proper support from Cisco. Well, whatever... Don't want to continue as this would be off topic...
I started this thread because I wanted to know if this new device implemented enterprise IPSec VPN or SOHO IPSec VPN (and yes that also surprises me because I thought VPN was standard...). It makes me angry to find out that there seems to be two flavours of IPSec. This defeats the whole idea of a standard, doesn't it?
Please, can anybody with the rv220w confirm whether or not it features pptp VPN server support, and if iOS devices can stablish a PPTP VPN with it?
I'm just analysing this new device before I purchase it and find out again that I does not fulfil my expectations.
Thanks

Uggh, it's so frustrating! I've googled every search phrase I can think of and this seems to be the only thread describing this exact issue. I'm always automatically logged into Facebook on my MBP but just to be sure I logged out and back in and it worked fine.
I gotta say, I wasn't a fan of the Droid I had preceding this iPhone, and from what I hear the iPhone app for FB is a thousand times better - not that I'd know personally because I can't log in!! - but I could always access my FB account on the droid. Just sayin...

  • IPhone OS 3.0 - internet tethering and Cisco VPN Client

    Hello,
The latest OS for the iPhone allows users to tether their iPhone to a Mac/PC so that the user can browse the internet through the carriers mobile 3G network.
I can confirm that internet tethering works on my Macbook Pro, but the following error is displayed when i load the CiscoVPN Client (version 4.9.01 (0100))
"Error 51: Unable to communicate with the VPN subsystem.
Please make sure that you have at least one network interface that is cuurently active and has an ip address and start this application again."
Does this mean that the Cisco VPN client cannot see the internet connection supplied by the iPhone even though i can browse the internet while this error is being displayed??
    Regards,
    Eddie S

Same problem here and I'm wondering the same. I also noticed that the same error comes also when my ethernet connection and iPhone tethering are active at the same time. Then there really should be a connection.
Despite that, I have the same problem and using bluetooth tethering doesn't solve this. Still the same error even though Internet connection works otherwise fine.
Any suggestions? Have Cisco tested this?
I'm using MacBook Pro 13" OS X 10.5.8, iPhone 3GS 3.0.1 with official finnish carrier Sonera, Cisco Systems VPN Client 4.9.01 (0100)

  • FeatureRequest: vpn ipsec & sshfs ?

    Hi
i would love to use a TimeCapsule but as i used a lot unix, i really would prefer to be able to use something like sshfs to connect to it. any plan for this ?
else any plans for support of:
    * vpn ipsec (standard, not only cisco like iphone)
    * encrypted backup/disk
to ensure confidentiality of your data.
Maybe with one of this hardware-protected hard disk.
    thanks
    Regards

  • Configuring iPhone VPN with other gateway appliances

    Dear Guru,
I'm just wondering if iPhone VPN client can be configured to work with other gateway appliances like Juniper, Netgear, SonicWall, and/or WatchGuard that support IPSec, LT2P, P2P because so far I only hear the most about Cisco gateway appliance. If it supports other appliances, can you help to elaborate how it can be configured for example with WatchGuard, or others.
Your inputs/comments are very much appreciated.
    Thank you.
    Regards,
    Phyrom

I am in the same situation. The Netgear forums say the iPhone is CISCO only. Any help to get iPhone VPN connected to fvs318?

  • Jabber for Windows and Iphone

We are running Jabber on cucm 9.1 WE use microsoft RDS and all works fine locally. users can sign in with their AD account and see their presence, use their deskphone and receive email. that works on both the windows and Iphone clients.
When they are logging in via a anyconnect VPN however. the im and presence shows no status for anyone, even though they are logged in but the phone and vociemail is fine, calls can be made and received. The ASA is not blocking anything so not sure where to start with this one

I just did a full deployment for jabber 4 windows iphone, ipad and android and to get my presence status working as well as photos shown and directory searches I had to make use of the BDI config in my jabber-config.xml file on the cucm as well as the UC services on the cucm and mine is working 100%.
That is all why I am asking.

  • Remote Access VPN (ipsec) can ping LAN interface of firewall but not clients on the company network.

    The VPN will connect.
I can ping and connect to the ASA 5510 on it's LAN interface.
My problem is that I cannot ping or access anything on the LAN past the firewall. What am I doing wrong?
    Here is my config.

Yeah, I figured out where my problem was.
My IP Local Pool range was the problem.
I was using 10.10.10.0 which conflicted with a point-to-point connection where the serial interfaces were numbered and using 10.10.10.1 and 10.10.10.2.
Traffic would leave the firewall, hit the intended host, go back through my core router, then off to the other network.
I changed my ip local pool to a different range (192.168.100.0) and my problem was solved.

  • ASA 5505 site-to-site VPN tunnel and client VPN sessions

    Hello all
I have several years of general networking experience, but I have not yet had to set up an ASA from the ground up, so please bear with me.
I have a client who needs to establish a VPN tunnel from his satellite office (Site A) to his corporate office (Site Z).  His satellite office will have a single PC sitting behind the ASA.  In addition, he needs to be able to VPN from his home (Site H) to Site A to access his PC.
The first question I have is about the ASA 5505 and the various licensing options.  I want to ensure that an ASA5505-BUN-K9 will be able to establish the site-to-site tunnel as well as allow him to use either the IPsec or SSL VPN client to connect from Site H to Site A.  Would someone please confirm or deny that for me?
Secondly, I would like to verify that no special routing or configuration would need to take place in order to allow traffic not destined for Site Z (i.e., general web browsing or other traffic to any resource that is not part of the Site Z network) to go out his outside interface without specifically traversing the VPN tunnel (split tunneling?)
Finally, if the client were to establish a VPN session from Site H to Site A, would that allow for him to connect directly into resources at Site Z without any special firewall security rules?  Since the VPN session would come in on the outside interface, and the tunnel back to Site Z goes out on the same interface, would this constitute a split horizon scenario that would call for a more complex config, or will the ASA handle that automatically without issue?
I don't yet have the equipment in-hand, so I can't provide any sample configs for you to look over, but I will certainly do so once I've got it.
Thanks in advance for any assistance provided!

    First question:
Yes, 5505 will be able to establish site-to-site tunnel, and he can use IPSec vpn client, and SSL VPN (it comes with 2 default SSL VPN license).
    Second question:
Yes, you are right. No special routing is required. All you need to configure is site-to-site VPN between Site A and Site Z LAN, and the internet traffic will be routed via Site A internet. Assuming you have all the NAT statement configured for that.
    Last question:
This needs to be configured, it wouldn't automatically allow access to Site Z when he VPNs in to Site A.
Here is what needs to be configured:
    1) Split tunnel ACL for VPN Client should include both Site Z and Site A LAN subnets.
    2) On site A configures: same-security-traffic permit intra-interface
    3) Crypto ACL for the site-to-site tunnel between Site Z and Site A needs to include the VPN Client pool subnet as follows:
    On Site Z:
    access-list permit ip
    On Site A:
    access-list permit ip
    4) NAT exemption on site Z needs to include vpn client pool subnet as well.
    Hope that helps.

  • I would like to switch Iphone5 and Iphone 4

I have both an iPhone 4 and an iPhone 5 in use.
    Current situation:
I have the iPhone 5 with the simcard and settings from country X.
I have the iPhone 4 with the simcard and settings from country Y.
What I want to do, is to swap everything (including whatsapp data, photos, apps, music, bluetooth profiles, just everything) from my iPhone 4 and iPhone 5, and to swap the simcard. This enable me to use the iPhone 5 as my main phone in country Y, while at the same time, I keep reachable for persons calling me on my cell number from country X.
    Target situation:
I have the iPhone 5 with the simcard and settings from country Y.
I have the iPhone 4 with the simcard and settings from country X.
So just to summarize: In the future, I would like to use the iPhone 4 as I am using the iPhone 5 now; the iPhone 5 I would like to use as i am using the iPhone 4 now.
How can I do this? Let's assume that I can get the simcards in the correct sizes. Both phones are 16gb models.
I appreciate your comments and input.

You cannot restore the ip4 from the ip5 backup. You will have to do it the other way around. The ip4 will have a lower iOS than the iOS 6.1.4 in the ip5.
    Read http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1766
    which says:
iTunes and iOS do not support installing backups of newer versions of iOS onto devices using earlier versions of iOS.
You have identified that the two phones have different SIM cards so you have that sorted.
I would make sure you have good backup of contacts.  Use an app like MCBackup to create vcard of your contacts and email them to yourself.
This is what is contained in the backups:
WHAT IS CONTAINED IN A BACKUP
One active backup is contained in an iTunes backup and each time an new backup is created the previous backup is overwritten.  An iTunes backup contains the following information:
Contacts* and Contact Favorites (regularly sync contacts to a computer or cloud service such as iCloud to back them up).
App Store Application data including in-app purchases (except the Application itself, its tmp and Caches folder).
Application settings, preferences, and data, including documents.
    Autofill for webpages.
    CalDAV and subscribed calendar accounts.
    Calendar accounts.
    Calendar events.
    Call history.
Camera Roll (Photos, screenshots, images saved, and videos taken. Videos greater than 2 GB are backed up with iOS 4.0 and later.)
Note: For devices without a camera, Camera Roll is called Saved Photos.
    Game Center account.
    Home screen arrangement.
    In-app purchases.
Keychain (this includes email account passwords, Wi-Fi passwords, and passwords you enter into websites and some other applications. If you encrypt the backup with iOS 4 and later, you can transfer the keychain information to the new device. With an unencrypted backup, you can restore the keychain only to the same iOS device. If you are restoring to a new device with an unencrypted backup, you will need to enter these passwords again.)
List of External Sync Sources (MobileMe, Exchange ActiveSync).
Location service preferences for apps and websites you have allowed to use your location.
Mail accounts (mail messages are not backed up).
Installed Profiles. When restoring a backup to a different device, installed configuration profiles are not restored (such as accounts, restrictions, or anything which can be specified through an installed profile.) Any accounts or settings that are not associated with an installed profile will still be restored.
Map bookmarks, recent searches, and the current location displayed in Maps.
    Microsoft Exchange account configurations.
Network settings (saved Wi-Fi hotspots, VPN settings, network preferences).
Nike + iPod saved workouts and settings.
    Notes.
    Offline web application cache/database.
Paired Bluetooth devices (which can only be used if restored to the same phone that did the backup).
Safari bookmarks, cookies, history, offline data, and currently open pages.
Saved suggestion corrections (these are saved automatically as you reject suggested corrections).
Messages (iMessage and carrier SMS or MMS pictures and videos).
Trusted hosts that have certificates that cannot be verified.
    Voice memos.
Voicemail token. (This is not the voicemail password, but is used for validation when connecting. This is only restored to a phone with the same phone number on the SIM card).
    Wallpapers.
    Web clips.
    YouTube bookmarks and history.
    * Your contacts are part of the backup to preserve recent calls and favorites lists. Back up your contacts to a supported personal information manager (PIM), iCloud, or another cloud-based service to avoid any potential contact data loss.
There are three backups saved in iCloud and the following information is contained in an iCloud backup:
Purchased music, movies, TV shows, apps, and books
Photos and videos in your Camera Roll
    Device settings
    App data
    Home screen and app organization
    Messages (iMessage, SMS, and MMS)
    Ringtones
    Visual Voicemail
Make sure you transfer purchases from your phone to the computer  and do good backups of both phones first

  • ASA Hub-and-spoke VPN dhcp-relay

    Hi!
Have anyone implemented a solution with a hub-and-spoke IPSEC VPN (running ASA) with dhcp relay for the inside clients on the spoke. With the DHCP server on the hub site?
Normal LAN-LAN IPSEC VPN is a bit cumbersome to configure something like below:
    SPOKE
    <snip>
    access-list CRYPTO_ALLOWED extended permit ip INSIDE-NETWORKS any
#ALL INTERNET ACCESS GOES THROUGH THE SPOKE SITE
access-list CRYPTO_ALLOWED extended permit udp host OUTSIDE_IF_ADDR host HUB_DHCP_SERVER_ADDR eq bootps
access-list CRYPTO_ALLOWED extended permit udp host OUTSIDE_IF_ADDR host HUB_DHCP_SERVER_ADDR eq bootpc
    nat (INSIDE,OUTSIDE) source static CRYPTO_ALLOWED CRYPTO_ALLOWED destination static OSKO-INTERNET OSKO-INTERNET route-lookup
    dhcprelay DHCP-SERVER outside
    dhcprelay enable INSIDE
    dhcprelay setroute INSIDE
    dhcprelay timeout 60
    HUB
    <snip>
    access-list CRYPTO_ALLOWED_TO_SPOKE extended permit ip 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 HUB_NETWORKS
    access-list CRYPTO_ALLOWED_TO_SPOKE extended permit udp host HUB_DHCP_SERVER_ADDR host SPOKE_OUTSIDE_ADDR eq 67
    access-list CRYPTO_ALLOWED_TO_SPOKE extended permit udp host HUB_DHCP_SERVER_ADDR host SPOKE_OUTSIDE_ADDR eq 68
nat (INSIDE,OUTSIDE) source static ANY ANY destination static SPOKE_NETWORKS SPOKE_NETWORKS
    nat (INSIDE,OUTSIDE) source static HUB_DHCP_SERVER_ADDR HUB_DHCP_SERVER_ADDR destination static SPOKE_OUTSIDE_ADDR SPOKE_OUTSIDE_ADDR
    ### HUB INTERNET ACCESS ##
nat (OUTSIDE,OUTSIDE) source dynamic SPOKE_NETWORKS interface
    I can't really apply this to a hub-and-spoke configuration.
    Any ideas?
    Regards
    Daniel

Thanks. That's what I thought. I'm trying to configure this a my lab and having trouble though. Here's what I am trying to accomplish: HUB should communication with spoke1 and spoke2 via ipsec vpn using their own internal addresses HUB: 192.100.10.0/24, SPOKE1 10.142.0.0/24, SPOKE2 10.25.0.0/24) Communication between SPOKE1 and SPOKE2 should be nat'ed by the HUB so SPOKE2's addresses appear to be 172.16.128.0/24. SPOKE1's interesting traffic rule will allow the entire 172.16.128.0 255.255.128.0 subnet. Any new SPOKE's will use another subnet of that network. In my head I think I might need to let SPOKE2 NAT it's own traffic before it gets to HUB, but I'm dealing with multiple different devices as spokes so I want to handle everything on the HUB. Ideally the HUB would translate all traffic in both directions so both business partners and clients would only need one supernet in their interesting traffic rules.

  • Issue with VPN (IPSEC) to Cisco VPN @ work

    Hello,
I hope someone may be able to help with this, i am using an Iphone 3Gs, and i am having an issue connecting to the VPN at work. I authenticate according to our network personel, but they show this error in the logs
    58182 07/22/2009 15:45:00.630 SEV=5 IKE/141 RPT=1383 166.205.131.76
Client-reported firewall does not match configured firewall: terminating tunnel.
Received -- Vendor: (0), Product (0), Caps: 0000. Expected -- Vendor: Cisco Sy
    stems(1), Product: Cisco Integrated Client(0x00000001), Caps: 0002
Our network guy suggested maybe the iphone is attempting to use a split tunnel, i dont see any settings i can change for this, i pass authenticatin i can see that in their logs as well, but i get kicked off when it tries to negotiate security policies or firewall, and it terminates the tunnel..
    Any suggestions?

Have you been able to resolve this issue yet? I am just now setting up my office with Iphones and Cisco VPN and I am running into the same exact issue. I dont know of any firewalls on the Iphone, yet my Cisco client shows a mismatch between the Iphone and Cisco. Anu help is greatly appreciated.

  • Troubleshooting MPLS L2 and L3 VPNs

Would really appriciate if someone could suggest a link with details on troubleshooting MPLS L2 and L3 VPNs.

    Buy 'Troubleshooting Virtual Private Networks'
    (ISBN 1587051044):
    www.ciscopress.com/1587051044
    It includes:
    About 150+ pages on MPLS layer 3 VPNs (in-depth troubleshooting/troubleshooting case studies/etc).
About 80+ pages on AToM (Martini draft) - technology/config/in-depth troubleshooting.
Then there's (off the top of my head) about 70+ pages
    on L2TPv3 pseudowire (technology/config/in-depth
troubleshooting) just in case you want to compare
    pseudowire technologies :)
And also about 100 pages of in-depth IPsec
    troubleshooting, etc, etc.
You can download a 40 page
excerpt of the MPLS layer 3 VPN troubleshooting
chapter from the Cisco Press website.

  • RV220W and Remote Application

I just purchased and installed a RV220W router.  I bought it specifically for the VPN capability.  After successfully setting up the QuickVPN and connecting, I am confused about how to setup the router (if possible) so I can run applications remotely.  Is this possible with the RV220W and if so, is there documentation to guide me in the right direction?
    Thanks in advance.

Thanks for your reply, Tom.  Essentially what I want to do is to operate a "remote desktop" from out of the office.  That is, I want to be able to run my desktop applications and access data on that desktop from home.  The administration guide for the router seems to suggest this is possible.  However, once the manual gets you connected, it is rather vague about how to actually run the applications remotely.  Perhaps there is better information elsewhere but I've scoured Google and cannot seem to come up with an answer.  The manual, on page 108, says "after connecting to the VPN portal, navigate to the VPN tunnel page and launch the SSL VPN Tunnel client installer/launcher."  I'm not a network professional (as if you couldn't tell!) but I'm fairly good at technology ... but that instruction baffles me.  I have no idea where I would find the "SSL VPN Tunnel client installer/launcher".
