Rvs4000 1.3.1.0 new user experience - part two

thorough documentation - too much to ask for?
besides the lack of explaining what the log levels are, why not fully disclose reference info on the various messages one might see with an explanation of how one might use them to administer one's network?
for example, what are these security warnings telling me?
Mar 30 23:54:01  - ipt_tcpmss_target: bad length (48 bytes)
Mar 30 19:57:07  - 23 DPT#0 WINDOWX40 RES=0x00 SYN URGP=0
nrf

Yeah, Neal I understand what you mean as far as having some mechanism to translate the messages to a more readable format. The problem with that would require more code to be included in the firmware and more CPU power to process the information. This would cause the device to be more expensive and also slow down the processing of packet information. The log system is made up of different code modules that are designed to inspect different parts of network traffic which adds more complexity. Just to follow one of your examples given concerning NIC duplex, if the NICs do not negotiate proper speed / duplex there would be no readable traffic passing through because we would have collisions. So it would be impossible to get information from the other NIC. All we would be able to capture is the default negotiation of our own NIC and nothing else.
Some of the message outputs are built into the code and relate directly to the TCP information. So taking these messages and translating them would mean more code and even then it would be extremely difficult to execute. What would be nice is if the log told us in a more readable format what "Threshold"; as you stated, was breached to at least point the administrator in the right direction.
The problems you are mentioning are not specific to our equipment however, this will hold true accross other manufacturers and you will also be able to see similarities with logging on a Linux box with IP Tables.
I know I am not really answering your concerns directly, but I can tell you that Cisco does look at the forums and suggestions posted are taken into account. What you can do, is do a google search or look into the O'Riley books for a more in depth look at the TCP packet structure. I do not mean for this to come accross in a rude or "blowing you off" manner, just as a personal suggestion.

  • New user experience with product

I just recently purchased this product and would like to share my experience so far.
Seems all products have a few warts, and we seem to always find them first. But, having used this now for about 2 weeks, I can say that this product was worth the money for me. It gives insight into existing apps that I didn't even know about. Makes working with new apps rather simple. If time is money, I'm now in the black with the amount of time saved.
Having said this, there are a few items I would like to see added.
Would be nice to include a bit of database and hibernate support (kinda like myeclipse)
I would like to see better support for struts-layout. This product sure makes layout easier
Might be there, but would be nice to better CSS suuport

Good post. I agree. I'm experiencing a few bumps as well. It's mostly due to my lack of familiarity with NitroX and trying to get RAD to work as well as WSAD 5.1.2 does. But overall I love NitroX and the 40% of the product abilities that I'm using right now are well worth it. NitroX makes our IDE (WSAD and RAD) much more of a complete tool. I can't wait until I've had a few months with this tool.

  • My new user experience with PP5.5 (not so great)

I just wrote up a very long post and I seem to have trouble posting it -- "Cannot post now" error, even though I can post in the testing forum. This is a short post to see if it works...

    11. Once I had my clips laid down and the video synced up, I started  to think about audio. I had 3 tracks of audio: a mono track from the  G12, and Channel 1 and Channel 2 from the JVC, both of which were  different mics. It turned out that we ended up using Channel 1 from the  JVC everywhere, but that was partly because it was easier to do and I  didn't know what I was doing. It appeared that there was no easy way to  tell Premiere to seperate out the Ch1/Ch2 audio in the sequence where  the clip was laid down, possibly because I had Captured clips with the  wrong audio setting (I didn't specify multichannel -- was it an option?)  Instead, I had to go the the Project Window, select the clip, and  choose Clip > Audio Options > Breakout to Mono. Then that  gave me a pair of independnt left/right clips with just a mono track,  and I could lay those down the timeline, and sync them up manually with  the existing video. This sync was easy since the left edges matched up  1:1, since of course the video and audio were recorded together by the  same camera. Then I had to unlink the original ("stereo") tracks and  delete them. Was there a better way?
    12. The  aforementioned Breakout to Mono function is hard to find! If you select a  clip in the Project window, one of the choices in the context menu  (rightclick) is Modify > Audio Channels. It looks like it  might be the right thing but everything is grayed out and there's no way  to convert stereo to mono. It's particularly confusing that there is a  lot of overlap between that context menu and the menubar Clip menu, but not enough. It seems like there should either be complete  overlap or almost no overlap. But the degree of partial overlap makes it  hard to find things, and hard to remember which menu you found them in.
    13.  Having established four sequences, each with two video tracks and 1  audio track, it was time to do the multi-camera editing. I found the  multi-camera documentation and the whole paradigm somewhat confusing.  That is, it seems weird that I have to lay down both of my clips into a  container sequence (as V1 and V2), and then place that container  sequence into an overarching parent sequence in order to do multicamera  editing. Am I missing something? Why the extra level of indirection? In  addition to being a bit nonintuitive, when I have my final sequence, it  means an extra level of double-clicking (except that doesn't always  work, so sometimes going back to the project window to find the  constituent sequence/clip).
    14. In each of my  lowest-level sequences (that contained the clips directly), I had marked  In and Out points. I was surprised to find that that didn't seem to  affect their placement in the container sequence or the multicam clip  that contained that sequence. I figured I must have done something  obviously wrong, so just ended up trimming those sequences in their  parent sequences. This turned out to be error-prone (left some gaps),  but it got the job done.
    15. The process of multi-cam  editing wasn't really smooth. The interface for recording multicam edits  didn't seem very amenable to adjustment, and it seemed like hitting '1'  or '2' on the keyboard obviated the need to press the Record button,  but not always. And restarting playing/recording sometimes meant that a  duplicate multi-cam edit was recorded, though sometimes multicam edits  were lost. It was confusing, but functional.
    16.  Editing existing multicam edits in the timeline was awkard. I see now  that probably I should have used the ripple edit tool or rolling edit  tool to do those edits, instead of the default arrow tool. But messing  with those tools somehow we managed to get some video/audio  misalignments (or at least convinced ourselves that we did!) or loss of  sync, so we paniced and restrited ourselves to the regular pointer/arrow  tool.
    17. The multicam documentation linked to  prp2it_multicam.pdf, but those instructions from 2006 are marked as for  Premiere Pro 2.0. I wasn't sure that they were safe to use in Premiere  Pro CS5.5...
    18. In the multicam monitor window, there  was space for 4 cameras. But I only had two. No way to compress the  window to only show 2 cameras? That seemed a bit wasteful of screen real  estate.
    19. Having done the rough multicamera edits  and then gone back and tweaked them, we were then concerned about audio.  Some of the clips had higher gain audio than others,so I wanted to do  gain corrections, generally to an entire clip. The first approach we  tried was opening an audio clip in the source browser and applying the  Volume Level effects control. But this would only give a 6dB boost. Why?
    20. Next, we discovered that we could select a clip in the Project browser and choose Clip > Audio Options > Audio Gain.  Here it appeared that the clip gain could be arbitrarily changed. It  would be nice to have an interface to see all the places that a clip or a  sequence's audio gain could be adjusted, since having several places to  check was a bit confusing. Also, Audio Gain has both a "Set Gain" and  and "Adjust Gain" and their interaction was not 100% clear.
    21. At this point, we were basically done. First shot at exporting to a DVD was via File > Export...Media MPEG2-DVD. it seemed to work OK, but then right as the progress bar was finishing, we got this gem:
it lasted for more than a few seconds and was definitely not confidence-inspiring.
    22.  At this point it was 3am in the morning and mistakes were starting to  be made. Consultation of the manual appeared to suggest that it was  feasible to export to a DVD without using Encore, especially if one  wanted to forgo menus. That sounded great to me, so I took the resulting  .mpg file and rightclicked in the finder and chose Burn to disc...  Well, that was a coaster. But I think the documentation could have been a  lot clearer. Still, lack of VIDEO_TS and whatnot should have clued me  in, right?
    23. Managed to cons up a menu in Encore and  burned the .mpg file to disc, producing a playable DVD. I gave up trying  to figure out how to do it without a menu.
    24. Having  produced the DVD deliverable, there was then a request for color  correction. Of course this is not surprising, why would a Canon G12  match a JVC HD100U? No way! Back in Premiere Pro, I foudn it very  difficult to figure out how to color-correct camera 1 of the multicamera  against camera 2. If I used the multicam stream, there were 100s of  broken-up clips every time there was an edit. I certainly didn't want to  color-correct every one of them. I really just wanted to apply a  correction to all of Camera 1 and another one to all of Camera 2.
    25.  So I opened up the sequence containing both cameras (that is later  imported into a parent sequence and marked as multicamera). Could not  find a way to get the Reference: window to show one camera while the  color correction window showed another. Ultimately we ended up muting  video channels in the sequence temporarily such that the  sequence/program window showed one clip or the other clip, while the  source window showed another. But it seemed like it should have been  possible to display both clips against each other for purposes of color  correcting one or the other.
So, I think that's about  it. I suspect there's a lot I did wrong, and certainly if I had more  than a few hours I would have taken the time to learn the program  properly (and still will!). But there are still a lot of spots where the  program could be better.
    Anyhow, thanks for listening. Cheers!

  • New user stuck - part 2

In spite of the fact I could not make the problem noted in
the previous post, I moved on to the next section.
    http://www.adobe.com/devnet/dreamweaver/articles/first_website_pt2_07.html
Here I was able to change the colors in three column table,
but could not get it to change the background color that was
supposed to show in Design view. Of note, the background did show
"#000000" when I went to a browere (but image place as per the
previous post did not show in the "light gray" default color.
By the way, I am using CS3 Premium Web studio.
    Thanks.

Here's why coloring the placeholder could get you into
    trouble:
When you color the placeholder, DW inserts that color as an
    inline style -
    <img src="" style="background-color: #993300"...
Later, when you replace the placeholder with a real image, DW
    *does not
    remove the inline style* -
    <img src="images/foo.jpg" style="background-color:
    #993300"...
This is not a problem UNLESS the image is a GIF/PNG image
    with transparency,
in which case that background color would shine through. Of
    course you can
always manually remove the inline style attribute and its
    values.

  • Outlook Anywhere Trouble for new users

    Hello,
My client had Exchange 2010 SP3, lastest rollup. He has Outlook Anywhere enabled and all of his users, except a new one he created a few days ago, have no problem accessing their mailboxes.
This new user experiences a problem, once she goes home and tries to open her Outlook 2010, a User\Password prompt appears which does not go away even when you get it right. Eventually after 3 attempts usually, it goes away but outlook opens up disconnected.
There is this Error event - MSExchangeAL id 8364, on the exchange server, and it does correspond to our problem. although, no valid solution is given for it, wherever i've searched.
We've tried Changing authentication methods from Basic to NTLM to Negotiate and to Basic back again, tried disabling the "Encrypt data between Outlook and Exchange", We've tries online mode, it does not even open outlook. it gives us an error regarding
a bad ost file. If outlook does allow the user in, it's only in cached mode and it immeditaly changes status from "Trying to connect..." to "Disconnected". We've checked the checkbox of "On slow connections use....". OWA Works.
Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

    Hi,
According to your description, only one your user cannot use Outlook Anywhere to connect to the server. If I misunderstand your meaning, please feel free to let me know.
If yes, I recommend you firstly troubleshoot if the issue is related to the certain Outlook client:
Recreate a new profile for the problematic users or change another computer to reconfigure the account.
Additionally, you can also use ExRCA to check the Outlook Anywhere connectivity:
    https://testconnectivity.microsoft.com/
If you have any question, please feel free to let me know.

  • New GNOME Shell Extensions That Provide A GNOME2-Like User Experience

Ron Yorston has created some pretty cool GNOME Shell extensions that "provide a user experience more akin to that of GNOME 2". Using these extensions you can move the clock next to your username, get an old-style menu, disable dynamic workspaces and place the favourites on the top panel.
you can get more info here:
at webupd8.org and on his homepage
    I also made a package: gnome-shell-frippery
    here's a screenshot:

I download gnote extension from this page: http://www.fpmurphy.com/gnome-shell-extensions/
I edit extension.js from ~/.local/share/gnome-shell/extensions/[email protected] to have more tray icons on status bar and not only gnote (which I am not using). So I added Pidgin and Skype to the file. But with Pidgin there is problem, it has icon very top and I would like to have it in center like icon Skype...anyone know how to do this?

  • About using categories and perspectives for new user

We are just beginning a conversion and upgrade project to convert our Web site to Oracle Portal. I'm trying to get a good handle on some different things we need to resolve as part of the project. One of the first decisions is using Categories and Perspectives.
I'd like to ask users about how they have used categories and perspectives and some real-world examples of how these work and improve the site and user experience.
    About us
We're a big nonprofit river authority and wholesale electric provider in Austin, Texas. Currently, we offer very limited online transaction capabilities. However, we are diverse organization and users come to us looking for every specific information, so these elements may be very helpful. I'm evaluating how we can use these and other elements to make recommendations. Some real-world examples and best practices would help a lot.
    Thank you, Charles Boisseau
    Web editor

    Continuing the thread...
Perspectives and categories may be leveraged in custom search portlets, so that you can enter the content one time, in one place, and have selected content display in multiple places.
Re: our "news" concept: our central communications group posts news stories tagged with one or more perspectives, such as which school is related to the story. This allows us to keep all of our news stories in one page group, but reuse the content elsewhere. For example, for the School of Nursing intranet, we can use a custom search portlet that automatically displays only that school's stories.
You'll want to do some up-front planning regarding your classification scheme. One significant limitation of both categories and perspectives is the inability to change the hierarchy. Oracle Portal product team, if you're reading this, this is a serious pain! I might also recommend leaving your classification scheme relatively flat. Tagging content with perspectives becomes more difficult if the content contributor has to visually traverse a deep hierarchy of perspectives.
Categories work similarly, but we mainly use them to visually sort items on a page using the "Group By" feature of a region.
Hope this gets some gears turning.

  • Creating a new user account and curious log in behavior...

First off I'd just like to apologize if that is not the correct place to be posting this, but after looking around I don't see a perfect fit for this topic anywhere, so I figured here should be okay. Also I want to apologize if this turns out to be a rather lengthy post, I just want to ensure that I supply all info...
Okay, so about a month ago I recognized that my current user account is slowly but surely taking longer and longer to "boot up" after I put in my password and tell it to log in. What usually happens is that I click log in, the background image and taskbar almost immediately pop up but nothing else (finder icons, dock, and the multiple icons in the taskbar which include the airport signal, user name, bluetooth status, battery strength, volume, and my iChat and Adium status) the only things to immediately "activate" in the taskbar are the clock and spotlight.
As of late when I log in something especially strange is happening in that after the 5 or so minutes it takes the dock, rest of taskbar, and finder icons to appear my PB will play the default Apple sound of me emptying trash, rather there is anything actually in the trash or not. It dosen't delete the objects in the trash (if any, as I usually keep it empty), just simply plays the sound. I'm not sure if it playing this sound ties in any with the lagging log in times, I just wanted to mention it as the log in times have slowed down considerably since this sound started.
Bottom line given that there is no way that I know of fixing this problem, I am planning to simply create a new user account. Actually I have already created the new account (by the way, it logs in literally instantaneously, and does not make the strange trash being emptied sound) but was looking for info on how to get all of my files from one account to the other. Unfortunately for me everytime that I install a program and the dialog box pops up asking if you want to install it on all user accounts or just the current one I always click "just the current one" (please don't ask why, as there is seriously no reasoning to this at all...), so is there a way to transfer my current programs from one user account to the other without reinstalling??? It's actually not that many programs I'm talking about here (Shapeshifter, Xounds, XFactor, AIM, Adium, Cocktail, Toast, Popcorn, iPod Rip, and Office), I just figured that if I can simply transfer rather than reinstalling them, it would be a lot easier.
However my 2 primary concerns are my iTunes and iPhoto libraries (3330 songs and 4182 pcitures respectively), considering that I've spent literally hours making countless playlist in iTunes, and countless folders, slideshows, and books in iPhoto, if I was to lose all this it would truly be a mess.
I know I'm probably making a big deal out of this and it's an extremely easy and basic process, please just pardon this still pretty new Mac user and help me out:) Also if anybody else has experienced the log in slow down or strange trash being emptied sound I would be glad to hear your experiences.
    Thanks in advance!!!
    Mervyn

    Hi Mervin,
Bottom line given that there is no way that I know of fixing this problem, I am planning to simply create a new user account.
You can do that (but I wouldn't) this KB article outlines how:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=155373
Basically you will copy the folders within your old home to replace the folders in the new home. Here is a list of specific folders if you decide to do that but a better solution would be to sort your existing user.
Here where your important data is stored ("~" stands for "Home"):
    Your Data in Documents
~/Library/Application Support/AddressBook (copy the whole folder)
    ~/Library/Application Support/iCal(copy the whole folder)
Also in ~ / Library/ Application Support (copy whatever else you need)
~ /Library/Keychains (copy the whole folder)
    ~/Library/Mail (copy the whole folder)
~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist * This is a very important file which contains all email account settings and general mail preferences.
    ~ / Library/iTunes (copy the whole folder)
    ~ / Library/Safari (copy the whole folder)
    ~ / Library/iMovie (copy the whole folder)
    ~/ Pictures/iPhoto Library
    If you want cookies:
    ~/Library/Cookies/Cookies.plist
    ~/Library/Application Support/WebFoundation/HTTPCookies.plist
so is there a way to transfer my current programs from one user account to the other without reinstalling???
As for applications, they should all be in your Application folder(there is only one) and available to ALL users, unless you have put "limitations" or "parental controls" on the account.
Now to the best course of action:
To find the issue affecting your existing user account, follow these steps:
Log back into your normal user account:
    1. Navigate to ~(yourhome/library/fonts - drag this folder to the desktop.
         • Restart and test your applications.
         • If they work start adding the fonts back few at a time.
( Likely suspects are Time RO & Helvetica Fractions, also if you do not use Classic you can trash the classic fonts.)
    2. Check Preferences Thoroughly;
         • Navigate to ~(yourhome/library/preferences drag this folder to the desktop.
         • Restart and test your applications.
         • If this works, save the old preferences folder somewhere else or on disk, name it "old prefs" .
** Note: A very important file is the "com.apple.Mail.plist" preference file located in the Preferences folder which contains all email account settings and general mail preferences (hold this one and replace if your problem is not with Mail).
You'll have to go through some of your System Preferences and apps to set the preferences back to how you like them. (Or if you have the time and inclination, "cherry pick" through until you find the problem one or two.)
    3. Check Permissions Inside Home Folder
       • Navigate to yourhome/library.
       • Get Info (Command - i) on folders for apps you are having problems with.
       • Open the "Ownership & permissions" disclosure triangle.
       • Make sure you are the owner, with "read and write" access.
    • Click on "apply to all"
       • If this is correct, open the "Applications Support" folder and do the same      procedure (Command+I) for the folders with the names of the applications you are      having trouble with.
    Note:
The reason to check this is because repairing permissions with Disk Utility doesn't touch permissions inside your home folder.
If the isssue persists navigate to ~/library/caches and drag this folder to the trash, then log out and back or restart. There is no need to replace this folder.
    Good luck, let us know.

  • Another Ovi Share first-glance user experience

Excited from the Nokia World presentations I decided to give Ovi Share a try. Previously I've been using Picasa and some local photo sharing services such as kuvaboxi.fi - that is to say that I had some baseline to judge Ovi share against.
First challenge was getting into ovi.com. Due to some cookie issue in Firefox I just got some java.lang.NullPointerException when trying to log in. Of course the error message was total gibberish and, interestingly, I noticed that there is no way to report such bug from the Ovi frontpage. Yes, you have the FAQ, but no info what-so-ever how and who to connect in case of login errors. Persistent as I was wanting to experience Ovi share I did login with IE, was able to send bug report and finally get the thing fixed - pheww...
At first look, Ovi Share looked ok. If only it had functioned ok... Creating an album in the web is easy, and so is adding photos - great! Made few albums and that's when the drawbacks (showstoppers one might say) started occuring to me...
    1. There's no way to create sub-folders! Are you real?!! So I can't make album 2009 and then sub-album Event XX? Uh, this front page will become ugly and confusing to use in a short while if I continue uploading my precious photos to these folders.
    2. I can't edit photos in groups. So there I am uploading 50 photos from my laptop and I can't even tag them collectively or move them between folders without going through the photos one by one. wt*? please excuse me my French... I really got frustrated after like 3 photos. And I couldn't even delete them in groups to re-start from the beginning and upload the photos directly to correct albums. argh!
    3. Tags, oh this one's great! As in bullet above, I can't tag the photos in groups - already a real pain in the bottom. It's done quite handy when uploading from my mobile device, though. But then in Ovi Share, why on earth can I not filter / search the photos based on tags? To use the tag search, I have to browse my way through to a photo which as been tagged with the particular tag and only there I can click the tag to search photos with similar tags. And what d oI get when doing this? --> No items found. Again wt*? I just clicked a photo with that tag!!
    4. Uploading photos from my device. Overall, this works great in my phone. That is if I'm uploading to an album that already exists. No way to create a new album while doing it directly from photo browser application. Well, what the heck, let's just dump them to the default "root" album and sort them to right album in Ovi Share. ok, done. all items show nice in All Media. I create new album, start moving pictures one-by-one (well, I'd do it in groups but that's not available!). Doesn't take too long to notice that in All Media you can't see actually see where the images are stored. So there I am sorting 50 pictures taken & uploaded, and the only way to know which images I've already moved is to move between All Media and my album and make a manual verification. another wt*?!! I would spend two hours or so sorting 50 pictures and still end up with pics missing from albums.
    5. Viewing the images. How come I can only watch these in full-screen by starting a slide show or downloading the pics back to my hard drive?  And what if I wan't to zoom in on some detail? To tell you the truth the experience of viewing photos is so bad that I wouldn't use Ovi Share to, for example, share images related to ebay auctions. Any potential buyer would probably just walk off immediately.
I haven't even dared to try the Ovi Suite on laptop if that makes things any easier. Ovi Share, as it is now is totally unusable. How bad can a first glance user experience be? Well, Ovi Share just set new standards for me

I completely concur.  I've just spent the last two days tryng to force both Ovi for PC and Ovi Share to do what could be fantastic.... but it's not, it's **bleep**.  I've gone back to PC Suite on the PC and am just about to give up on Ovi Share.
Here's my main gripes with Ovi Share
Ovi Share has the potential to be a great site but....
Uploading via the "World" share online symbol within photos is fast but....
You can't even choose an existing album - it always select the first one
    Tags aren't created
The date of the photo doesn't go through - it uses the date uploaded as the date created

  • New User Mailbox not showing up in GAL - Created wrong?

I have a strange issue that is causing me angst and making me argue with my network manager.  Here's the lowdown.  Please shed some light on it if you can.
Every place I have worked prior to my current company I would do the following steps to create a new user (new employee).  In AD I would
copy an existing user with the same/similar permissions, distro list membership, etc...  Then go into
EMC and create a new mailbox for an existing user
and link it to the new AD object I had just created.  This always worked for me.  Here it doesn't.  When I do it that way, the new user mailbox does not get added to the GAL.  If you go to
All Users they show up.  I have read several articles about using cached mode and if I turn it off the user will show up.  Unfortunately most of our employees are in the field for long periods of time so we need to run in cached mode.
The way the network manager wants them created (and this way works) is to create a new user mailbox for a
new user in EMC which also creates the AD object.  Then I have to go back to AD and manually add the user to permissions groups, distro lists, add profile settings, etc...  Very tedious and manual process.
Can someone help me understand why doing it my way, which I have done for years on other networks, is not working here?  Since we are using cached mode do I have to create the user object and mailbox the way he does it?

I believe the way you are doing it and the way he is doing it is doing exactly the same thing as far as when it shows up in the GAL.  The problem sounds like exactly what you said in that you are using cached mode which uses an Offline Address Book
(OAB).  If you look in EMC under Organization Configuration/Mailbox/Offline Address Book, you will see the update schedule.  What happens is when you create the account it shows up in the address book right away however it only shows up in the OAB
when that updater runs.  Even after that is done, the outlook client needs to go out and download the OAB file, which happens 24 hours from the time it last downloaded the OAB.  I'm not sure if there is a fix for your problem as it appears to be
by design.  Perhaps your old company may have been running in online mode?  You may want to look at
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/841273/en-us for more details.
    Q1: What is cached mode?
A1: Cached mode is the new default configuration for Outlook. It provides an experience that is similar to the offline configuration in earlier versions of Outlook. When you are running in cached mode, your Exchange mailbox is synchronized to a local
file (an .ost file), and the offline address list from your Exchange computer is synchronized to a collection of files (.oab files) on your client computer. Outlook directly accesses the .ost file and the .oab files on your hard disk instead of communicating
directly with your server or servers. Therefore, network communication between Outlook and Exchange is significantly reduced.
Q2: Why does cached mode generate an offline address book?
A2: The offline address book  contains a set of all the properties of a user (such as e-mail addresses and names) that Outlook requires. With an offline address book, Outlook does not have to connect to the global catalog to resolve names, nor
does it have to open a person’s details record. Instead, Outlook easily obtains this information from the local offline address book.
Q5: How frequently is the offline address book updated on the Outlook client?
A5: If left constantly running, Outlook in cached mode automatically updates the offline address book on the client every 24 hours. The 24-hour time period is measured from the time that the offline address book was last downloaded successfully. For
example, if you complete an offline address book download at 09:00 today, Outlook will start the offline address book download the next day at approximately 09:00. Therefore, different people will receive updates at different, random times.
Note The default setting on the Exchange computer is to generate an offline address book differential file every morning at 04:00. For a change that is made in Active Directory to reach the client computer, the following events must occur:
The change must be picked up by the Exchange computer that generates the offline address book files. This can take several hours. At worst, it can take 24 hours. This variable will be referred to as "x."
The Outlook clients must download the offline address book updates every 24 hours. This update can take several hours. At  worst, it can take 24 hours. This variable will be referred to as "y."
The update reaches the client machines x+y hours later. It would be rare for a client to ever experience a 48-hour delay or more unless there were some Active Directory or public folder replication issues.

  • User folder has reverted back to "new user" after Finder crash

A co-worker here was working on his Dual G5 (10.3.9) tower when his finder froze up. After not getting any reaction from the computer, he held down the power button until the computer shutoff. After restarting, it restarted fine with his user but all settings have been reset to those for a default user and all of his files, documents, desktop, dock settings, email and work is gone. It is the same thing you get when you create a new user and login.
The HD icon has been replaced with that of the orangish-install package. Right now I have shut down the computer because, even though the data is technically still on the HD, the HD may think that the space where it is stored is available to be written over. Any tips? I can get most of his stuff from the back up tapes but it will take a long time (OMG, thank you Retrospect). Anybody had a similar problem before? This is bizarre.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Nathan:
It never happened to me but I feel that the login data is still lurking somewhere.
Have you already tried "Log out user"... and log-in again? But if you are afraid to touch anythinmg, then here is a link to Applejack that may correct the situation:
    http://www.macfixit.com/article.php?story=2005041817191411
You may find some other Applejack forum experiences that may match your current situation.
Please keep us posted and good luck.

  • Recording NWBC scripts for End User Experience

    Hi Experts,
I am recording NWBC scripts using the Netweaver Business Client GUI for loading and running it through Robots for End User Experience Monitoring. I don't see an option to "LogOff" in NWBC client while recording  the script. We only have option to "Close all session and LogOff" in NWBC client .
When I am using this option, it closes all the sessions including the EEM Recorder also without saving the recording .
I need to include "LogOff" as the last step so that it doesn't leave any active sessions for each run by different robots.
    I have a Solution Manager 7.1 SP10 and NWBC client 3.5 Patch 13.
    Please help me achieve this.
    Regards,
    Manish K

    Hi,
for a browser the recommendation is to open a new, empty tab to keep the browser alive while closing the tab with the  session. All that with the hope that the backend will use the triggered event of collapsing tab to close session.
Maybe a similar strategy works for NWBC.. but I don't know the UI in detail.

people complaining about problems installing an office over another office are (dare i say it) stupid. it makes absolutely no sense installing one over the trial version. just uninstall the trial and you'll be fine. every single time.
as for problem with uninstalling mcafee (or any other antivirus, for that matter, just download the uninstaller from the software company e.g. http://service.mcafee.com/FAQDocument.aspx?id=TS100507 for mcafee.
that said i believe you get to choose if you want mcafee and/or office when you go through the inital boot, the "on-screen instructions"
you can slow down the odd via power manager
and thanks for the tips on changing the reg to have the user profiles somewhere else!

SAP message is open since last week, but my be you can provide a faster response.
    Could you please help me.
    Kind Regards

Have you followed installation procedure described in the following article: http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/security/ibf/setup_guide/ibf10_install.html ?
You can find troubleshooting hints in the following article: http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/security/ibf/setup_guide/ibf10_troubleshooting.html
I'd reccomend to install CDA instead of AD agent (nice GUI...) but you'll have to create new (virtual) server for that: http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/security/ibf/cda_10/Install_Config_guide/cda_install.html

I've tried removing Office 2011 completely and re-installing to no avail.

Unfortunately, my experience with Office is that somethoping will get corrupted in your account that prevents it from running. I have never figured out  what exactly needs to be removed to make it work again.
