SA520W: difficulty getting self certificate request signed by trusted 3rd party

Please forgive me if this is a dumb question or if I am fundamentally confused, but I have pored over the manual, forum, and web.  Very simply I need a trusted third party to sign my CSR and then for the SA520W to accept it as the active self certificate.  In principle this is straightforward but I cannot figure out how to make this work in practice.  Two examples.
1) GoDaddy:  they require a 2048 bit signature and the router only generates 1024.  I can generate my own CSR with OpenSSL but then am unable to upload my 2048 bit key to the router, and thus the signed certificate is not accepted
2)  Verisign.  They will take the router's 1024 bit signature, but they require lots of fields in the CSR, like country and state, that are not supported by the router's generate CSR function.  Thus Verisign will not accept the CSR.
Is there any way to get the router to accept a CSR signed by GoDaddy?  Or any CA?
Thanks in advance.
Andy

Sorry to dredge up an old thread, but I've been trying to get this to work for the last three weeks also.
The firmware supports a 2048 bit key, so that's not the issue.
I entered all the information that the registrar wanted into the CN field, in the correct format.
The registrar has accepted the CSR and generated the certificate, and returned it to me.
I'm using a Geotrust quickSSL certificate.
Now, the issue is that I can't upload the certificate. If I try and load it, I get the error;
"No trusted certificate found, Can't Upload Self Certificate"
So, I'm guessing it is a chaining issue. I go to http://www.geotrust.com/resources/root-certificates/
I download the Root 1  "Download - Equifax Secure Certificate Authority (Base-64 encoded X.509) Right Click, Save As"
and then I try to add it to the SA520 as a trusted certificate...
"Added Trusted Certificate"
Now I try adding my signed certificate again, and get the error;
"No trusted certificate found, Can't Upload Self Certificate"
So we're still missing something (intermediate certificate(?)), so I try adding the next one in the list;
I download Root 2 "Download - GeoTrust Global CA (Base-64 encoded X.509) Right Click, Save As"
and try to add it to the SA520 as a trusted certificate...
"Cannot Add Trusted Certificate"
So I try the next one...
I download Root 3 "Download - GeoTrust Primary CA (.pem file) Right Click, Save As"
and then I try to add it to the SA520 as a trusted certificate...
"Added Trusted Certificate"
So, once again, I try my signed certificate and get the same error;
"No trusted certificate found, Can't Upload Self Certificate"
So I give up on the Cisco, and go to a Mac which has great keychain management.
I open my signed certificate on the mac, and see it is issued by "GeoTrust DV SSL CA"
Hang on, that's the "Root 2" certificate above that wouldn't load. I try add the Root 2 again, but I get the same error
So I contact Geotrust and get them to send me the DV SSL CA file, which I upload successfully.
Now, I have three trusted Certificates from Geotrust loaded.
Trusted Certificates (CA Certificate)
CA Identity (Subject Name)
Issuer Name
Expiry Time
C=US, O=GeoTrust Inc., CN=GeoTrust Global CA
C=US, O=GeoTrust Inc., CN=GeoTrust Global CA
May 21 04:00:00 2022 GMT
C=US, O=GeoTrust Inc., OU=Domain Validated SSL, CN=GeoTrust DV SSL CA
C=US, O=GeoTrust Inc., CN=GeoTrust Global CA
Feb 25 21:32:31 2020 GMT
C=US, O=GeoTrust Inc., CN=GeoTrust Primary Certification Authority
C=US, O=GeoTrust Inc., CN=GeoTrust Primary Certification Authority
Jul 16 23:59:59 2036 GMT
So I try once again to upload my signed certificate, and once again, I get:
"No trusted certificate found, Can't Upload Self Certificate"
So, the question is, WHAT is going on ? Has anyone at Cisco managed to load a GeoTrust certficate into this device, if so, step by step, HOW ?
Thanks !

  • Anyconnect Getting certificate from trusted 3rd party vendor

    Hi everyone,
    I have configured the Anyconnect in network.
    Now i need to get cert from 3rd party vendor so that when users login they should not get warning that this network is untrusted.
    Need to know what info i need to get from ASA so that i can get the SSL cert from the vendor?
    Also need to know if i can enable user authentication based on this cert also?
    Currently auth is done via radius?

    Each issuer's requirements vary but you generally need to submit a CSR (Certificate Signing Request) to the issuing Certificate Authority (CA). They will sign and issue a certificate for your ASA and email it back to you (or send you a link to download). You'll then have a certificate (file) to install on your ASA.
    See the link here for some more details on installing and using the certificate.

  • Trouble getting java install wizard to work with 3rd party software

    Hi,
    I just installed Java 2 SDK version 1.4.2 under Solaris 8. The installation appears to be fine. I changed
    the links and PATH to make sure I'm pointing to the correct version. I am trying to install a 3rd party software called Powerchute Network Shutdown by APC, to be able to shut down our servers remotely, that are attached to our APC UPS. I get these error messages from the software:

    Tech support at APC has been unable to help me. I am wondering if someone can tell me how to verify my java wizard is installed correctly. (I don't even know what a java wizard is by the way, so hopefully
    this question makes some sense to someone).

  • How can I get Cookie Monster to allow only SOME 3rd party cookies?

    I am runnning Firefox 10.0.2. Is there a way to "whitelist" or "blacklist" all cookies and/or third party cookies? I think that existed about 7 revs back. For example, if you hated third party cookies but used one site that required acceptance, you could refuse to accept third party cookies but whitelist the site you wanted. Neither Firefox nor Cookie Monster seem to offer this as far as I can determine.

    Try accessing the permissions manager dialogue:

  • Exchange Server 2010 Edge Transport Subscription Issue while moving Internal CA Certificate to 3rd Party Certificate

    My Client have a Exchange 2010 Organization with Single Domain Single Forest.
    They were using Internal CA Certificate and a TLS Cert.
    As a POC we are doing a POC for Exchange 2010 Hybrid Office 365 Environment.
    For this 3rd Party CA is Mandatory and they have bought a Geo Trust Certificate.
    Now when they have installed cert on both HUB as well as EDGE servers, he was prompted to do edge subscription again.
    HUB and CAS are combined on the server at both Main and DR Site.
    When they try to do edge subscription again they are getting the following error.

    1-Certificate will import on both EDGE and HUB Servers.
    2-Edge Sync will use Self-Sign Certificate (but I an unable to find how do I configure this)
    3-some communication between Edge and Hub will be encrypted via 3rd party Certificate.
    Could anyone suggest, which services on HUB must based in this 3rd party cert.

    Hi,
    Please run Get-ExchangeCertificate | fl to check your Exchange certificate settings. Also confirm if the 5E470560626E313646730C177FCA66728E2BAFF7 certificate is your trusted 3rd party cert.
    Please use Enable-ExchangeCertificate cmdlet to assign SMTP service to your self-signed certificate in your Edge server.

  • 3rd party Certificate and AAA Authentication

    I am using a cisco asa5520 and i have set up remote access vpn with an AnyConnect connection profile.
    In the connection profile i have set up that users should authenticate using both certificate and AAA.
    Due to a high security requirement, the user certificate is issued from a 3rd party.
    This is working fine and the user now need a valid certificate and a username/password to authenticate successfully.
    I added the CA certificate as a associated trustpoint on the ASA box to get the certificate verification working.
    Problem:
    If Jane and Joe both have a valid certificate AND a valid username/password, Jane could authenticate using a combo of Joes certificate, and Janes username/password. Both are valid (isolated), but i only want jane to be able to authenticate with her username/password and her personal certificate.
    I got an idea that i could put the Serial Number of the users certificate on the user object in AD (on the users department field or something like that) and check if this value match during authentication.
    So, to sum things up, i want to compare the Serial Number (SER) field of the users certificate with a field on the user object in AD during authentication. As far as i can see the user would need a valid certificate and a valid username/password to authenticate. The user would also be authenticated only if the serial field match the value on the user object in AD.
    I am happy for any help that could point me in the right direction on how to accomplish this.
    Best regards,
    Kenneth

    I actually got a better idea, and i think this will work great!
    One of the guys at work pointed out that the sAMAAccountName is still used in many areas even though it is called pre-windows 2000.
    After some trying and failing i got the idea that should try to change the "Naming Attribute(s)" on the defined AAA (ldap) server under "AAA server groups".
    So i change the Naming attribute to "department", and put in the certificate serial number. I changed the connection profile and specified that it should use the "SER" value from the certificate as username. After that i tried to log in, and voila:
    [123] LDAP Search:
            Base DN = [dc=Testlab,dc=local]
            Filter  = [department=xxxx-xxxx-xxxxxxxxx]
            Scope   = [SUBTREE]
    [123] User DN = [CN=Peter Pan,OU=Wonderland,DC=testlab,DC=local]
    The ldap debug is clear, the ldap query during authentication is now searching for the user using the department field, and looking for the value of the serial number from my certificate.
    I wasnt quite happy about using the "department" field and i took a look at the user object looking for a more suitable attribute. To my surprise the user has got a "serialNumber" attribute, and it can hold multiple values. I changed the "Naming Attribute(s)" from "department" to "serialNumber" and added the serial number from the certificat to the "serialNumber" attribute on the user object:
    [138] LDAP Search:
            Base DN = [dc=Testlab,dc=local]
            Filter  = [serialNumber=xxxx-xxxx-xxxxxxxxx]
            Scope   = [SUBTREE]
    [138] User DN = [CN=Peter Pan,OU=Wonderland,DC=testlab,DC=local]
    Worked like a charm!
    I will settle for this solution, i cant see any issues regarding security, and it will be a breeze to admin. I will make a tool now so i can search for users in AD and update/view this attribute on the user objects.
    Thank you for the input Marcin

  • Getting self-signed certificates working with mail

    Hi all,
    I am having trouble getting email certificates created with keychain access to work in mail.
    According to the Leopard help file, you simply have to go to Keychain access and create the certificate, which I did. After that if you create a message in mail with that account, there should be an icon showing that the message will be signed or encrypted if you have the recipients certificate installed. I cannot seem to get this to work. I have created the certificates specifically for email, the certificate shows in Keychain as well as a public and private key entry, but mail refuses to see it.
    Has anyone gotten this to work with Mail and self-signed certificates?
    Any help would be most appreciated.
    Thanks,
    RacerX

    Have you tried setting the "Always trust" property? Double click the certificate in Keychain Access and allow it to have always trust for email.
    Also, make sure that bundles are enabled for mail.
    (Forget the command, google for "defaults write com.apple.mail enableBundles")
    That did it for me.

  • Going from a self signed certificate to a 3rd party certificate....

    Hello all...
    I have an Apache webserver running both the GroupWise WebAccess and the
    Netware FTP server. Up until now, I have used self signed SSL certificates

    certificate for both of them.
    Any idea how I set up the apache server so it will use the 3rd party cert
    instead of the self signed one...?
    Also, if you know how to set it up with the FTP server as well, it would
    help.
    (And, yes I know this is not the right forum, but in the interest of not

    As far as the FTP goes, can you be more specific? Where is this ini file
    that I need to modify? And how do I modify it?
    Thanks.

    I have created an iPhone app using xCode and am now ready to publish it. Do I have to sign up to the $99/yr program in order to get a certificate? I keep getting the error message: CodeSign Error: code signing is required...although the app tests fine on the simulator. Does this mean that I need to pay the $99 to create the app or do you only need to pay if you want it published on iTunes?
    Any advice will be gratefully received.

    App Store Resource Center - Apple Developer

  • Applet does not get client certificate from browser (Firefox, IE7)

    I'm writing a web service which runs Tomcat through Apache. One critical requirement is that the service be able to invoke certain device drivers on the end user's machine. Fortunately, there is a Java API for this, so this requirement can be fulfilled using an applet.
    Here's the problem. This is a B2B application, so we're using SSL and requiring client authentication. I'm no web security guru, but I managed to get SSL set up through Apache (with a self-signed certificate for now; we'll get a real one from a real CA when we're ready to go to production). I also managed to set up client authentication by creating my own CA and generating a client certificate, which I then copied to my test client (Win XPSP2) and imported into both Firefox (2.0.0.15) and IE (6.0.2900). The applet is signed with a real certificate, and that causes no problems. And all of the pages for my web service work as expected.
    All except one. The page which is supposed to load the applet pops a dialog stating 'Identification required. Please select certificate to be used for authentication', and presents a list of zero certificates.
    Actually, I get this dialog in Firefox on my XPSP2 box, and also when I test on a Vista Home Premium box running IE 7.0.6000. Puzzlingly, this behavior does NOT occur on my XPSP2 box when running through IE 6.0. It seems that with XPSP2 and IE 6.0, the JVM can manage to obtain the required client certificate from the browser and pass it along to Apache, but the JVM can't do this when running in Firefox or in IE 7.0 on Vista.
    I have gone to the Java Control Panel and verified that the 'Use certificates and keys in browser keystore' option is selected on both boxes.
    I've done a fair amount of research for this (including in this forum) and see that this appears to be a chronic difficulty with applets. What makes it worse is that I don't think I can use the standard workaround, which is to download the applet from a different host/virtual host, because the applet needs to communicate with the web service. Since we have the additional layer of Tomcat container-managed user authentication, the applet needs to be communicating with the server using the same session token as everything else.
    So at this point, I'm stuck. Does anyone know a solution to this problem? Two thoughts (I'm reaching at straws here):
    1) I have the certificate imported in both Firefox and IE as a 'personal' certificate. Is there someplace else I can put it so the JVM will know how to find it? A rather old thread in this forum mentioned something about setting properties in the Java Control Panel, but I see no place in the JCP to specify such properties, so I'm guessing that solution is no longer operative.
    2) I'm using a trick I found on the internet to make the applet load cleanly with both Firefox and IE, namely, I'm using the <OBJECT> tag to specify the applet class and codebase for IE, and then using <COMMENT><EMBED ... /></COMMENT> within the <OBJECT> declaration to specify the information for Firefox. Is there some other way of doing the markup that will give the JVM a hint that it should get a certificate from the browser?
    BTW . . . I would hate to drop support for Firefox, but if someone has an IE-only solution, I'll take it. Unfortunately, I reckon a Firefox-only solution would not fly.
    Thanks all.

    My applet is also signed by a valid certificate. The question of whether the applet is signed/self-signed/unsigned >isn't an issue --- I just wanted you to make sure the Applet runs because it is a know valid Java2 Applet that is 100% signed properly and verified to run.
    This eliminates the possibility that it is a JVM issue. However after reading your message further I am afraid
    it is not relevant to your issue.
    due to the client authentication, my browser (Firefox, IE7) refuses to even download the applet.
    I went to your site, and I can see your applet in both Firefox and IE6. However, I don't believe your site is set up >quite like mine, because it appears I can run your applet whether I have imported your X509 certificate or not. What I >did was:If that is true we are all dead :) No I think you just missed the cert in the IE databse. It doesn't have to be in the
    Applet database to function. Surprise!
    Check your IE/tools/internet options/content tab/certificates/trusted root certification authorities.
    I then opened the Java control panel and verified that the certificate isn't listed there, either. So unless the certificate >is being cached/read from some other location (which could be, this certificate stuff is largely black magic to me), >then your server isn't requiring client authentication, either accidentally or by design.No HyperView is a valid java2 Applet and actually writes to a file "hyperview.dat" though it is probably empty.
    If you click on a component in the view and then on the view and type "dumpgobs" it shoud write out some data about the current graphics objects so you can see it has complete read/write access..
    Further it opens up a complete NIO server ands starts listening for connections on a random port
    (Echoed in your java console) You can connect to it with telnet and watch impressive ping messages all day :)
    This all goes back to a few years BTW back before there was a plugin and there was only Netscape & IE.
    There are actually 2 certificate databases and what loads where depends on which type of cert you are using. Now self signed or not doesn't matter but what does matter is the type of certificate. IE: is it RSA/DSA/Sha1
    etc. The Netscape DB was a Berkley DB and MS used whatever they use. The Cert is a DSA/Sha1 cert
    which I like the best ATM as it (X fingers it stays so) always has worked.
    Sadly that tidbit doesn't help you either I am afraid.
    What I'm trying to do is require client authentication through Apache by including the following markup in a virtual >host definition:
    SSLCACertificateFile D:/Certificates/ca.crt
    SSLVerifyClient require
    SSLVerifyDepth 1You got me there I avoid markup at all costs and only code in C java and assembler :)
    Now unless I am wrong I think you are saying that you want the Applet to push the certificate to the server
    automatically and I don't think this happens. Least I have never heard of this happening from an Applet automatically.
    On my client machine, I have a certificate which was generated using OpenSSL and the ca.crt file listed. Testing >shows that the server is requiring a certificate from the client, and the web browser is always providing it.
    The problem is that when the browser fires up the Java plugin to run an applet, there is not sufficient communication >between the browser and the plugin so that the plugin can obtain the certificate from the browser and provide it to >the server.
    So the server refuses to send the applet bytecode to the JVM, and we're stuck.In terms of implementation ease I think you may have the cart before the horse because I think it would be far easier to run an Applet in the first place to do the authentication, and then send, for example, a jar file to bootstrap and run
    (or some classes) in the event the connection is valid. Then again one never knows it all and there may be some classes which enables the plugin as you wish. I have never heard of this being done with the plugin the way you suggest.
    I am thinking maybe there is another method of doing this I do not know.
    Did you try pushing the cert via JavaScript/LIveConnect?? That way it could run before the Applet and do the authentication.
    Maybe someone else has other ideas; did you try the security forum??
    Sorry but I am afraid that is not much help.
    I did snarf this tidbit which may have some relevance
    The current fix for this bug in Mantis and 1.4.1_02 is using JSSE API, Here are the step:
    In Java control panel, Advanced tab -> Java Runtime Parameters, specify:
    -Djavax.net.ssl.keyStore=<name and path to client keystore file>
    -Djavax.net.ssl.keyStorePassword=<password to access this client keystore file>
    If it is a PKCS12 format keystore, specify:
    -Djavax.net.ssl.keyStoreType=PKCS12
    In our future JRE release 1.5, we will create our own client authentication keystore file for JPI and use that for client authentication, for detail info, please see RFE 4797512.
