SAAJ vs JAX-RPC

Hi Team,
Whats the differences implementing web service clients using SAAJ and JAX-RPC ?
Do we have any performance related differences between these two ?
If I am not worng, SAAJ dynamic way of calling web services which means that it will create SOAP message on fly for every request.
So SAAJ may take more time comapred to implementing the clients using JAX-RPC.
Please correct me if my assumption is wrong.

Problems with J2ME and JAX-RPC

Hi,
I am trying to write a J2ME web service client. I have generated the stub classes with wscompile from the wsdl document at http://www.webservicex.net/stockquote.asmx?WSDL. However, when I try to run the MIDlet I always get the following error message:
[wtkpreverify] Error preverifying class javax.xml.rpc.encoding.Serializer
[wtkpreverify] java/lang/NoClassDefFoundError: java/io/Serializable
I am using Eclipse 3.1, Antenna 0.9.13, the Web Service Development Kit 2.0 and the WTK 2.3 beta.
The necessary jars (the WTK libs, rt.jar from the JRE, activation, mail, saaj and jax-rpc libraries from the WSDK) have been included in my classpath.
Does anybody know how to fix this problem? Any help is much appreciated.

Thanks, that was my mistake.
Instead of using wscompile, you must generate the stub classes with the WTK. Then, you set a reference to the j2me-ws.jar (JSR-172). No additional libraries from the Web Service Development Kit are required.

Use JAX-RPC or SAAJ service?

As far as I know we can set up web service with JAX-PRC or SAAJ.
It seems that SAAJ is simpler than JAX-RPC for me, because it don't need to use WSDL.
Is there any difference between them? How to choose between them?

Hi,
You should choose SAAJ in the case where the client has absolute knowledge of the SOAP messages that the web service receives and sends, and there is no reason for it to parse a WSDL in order to discover the web service's specification.
You should choose JAX-RPC in the case where the client knows nothing about the web service at runtime, and it needs to dynamically construct the call to it.
As far as complexity is concerned, i believe that JAX-RPC is much simpler than SAAJ, because it gives the programmer a simple API that wraps everything concerning the SOAP messages and their complexity. The programmer does not have to manually construct or parse the SOAP message. Instead, he just makes a rpc with the appropriate parameter values.

JAX-RPC client access a JAX-WS services

Hello all,
There is a little problem I had with webservices and googling for a solution has not help so far.
I am accessing a JAX-WS webservice from a J2SE 1.4.2 JAX-RPC client application and getting a NoSuchMethodError error from one of the stubs at runtime. The method call is rather a HelloWorld concept but it has not been possible.
This are the step I took (I am using netbeans 6.0).
1. I downloaded the JAX-RPC plugin on netbeans
2. Download the stubs using the wsdl url. I am using the netbeans wizard for this process.
3. Write my code for get a handle to the endpoint. Using the ServiceFactory.loadClass().

Getting SOAPExceptionImpl while invoking JAX-RPC Service

Hi,
I am using Static Stub to invoke a service . Both the Client and and Service are deployed on same Tomcat. Service is quite simple that display the Greeting message but when I am calling a service it throws the following exception..
java.rmi.RemoteException : HTTP Transport Error: com.sun.xml.messaging.saaj.SOAPExceptionImpl;
Invalid Content-Type "text/html"
Any idea how to fix this issue ?

I used tha JAX-RPC runtime jars that come with JSWDP and was able to sucessfully run the client on JDK1.3 environment. Is there a solution for JDK1.2 client?

JAX-RPC - dynamic wsdl - non-built-in data types

I thought my recent exp with developing a JAX-RPC client using a dynamic wsdl to communicate to a non-weblogic Web Service might help somebody out there. :-)
JAX-RPC Mechanism in Weblogic for dynamic_wsdl seems to work only with built-in data types. Weblogic also supports non-built-in data types, but you need to do some extra work! For the user-defined objects, you need to generate their types and register them.
Note: The samples given in Weblogic 8.1 do not use non-built-in data types!
Make sure you use the ant task "autotype" in your build.xml to generate the appropriate types (objects to support java-xml and xml-java converstion), types.xml from the wsdl. Register the types.xml file in your calling client code.
If you do not use register the types for the user-defined classes used in the web services method signatures, then you are likely to get the foll. exception.

WL 8.1 and JAX-RPC 1.1 (JWSDP 1.3) problems

I have developed several web services using Sun's JWSDP 1.3. It deploys just fine
in WebLogic 8.1 and I can view the WSDL, etc. with no problems. I have written

I tried your prefer-web-inf-classes and the web services deploy, but i get an
error trying to view the wsdl. sounds like trying to get jax-rpc 1.1 web services
running in weblogic is going to be nothing but problems. anyways, here's the error

override the classes in weblogic. This is another alternate approach,
but I have
a feeling that this will cause other unexpected problems.

J2EE Web services and JAX-RPC

Hello..
While working with J2EE web services using JDeveloper and OC4J, I noticed that it really doesn't confirm to Sun's JAX-RPC standard. The Web Service interface class does not extend the "Remote" and all methods don't throw "RemoteException" as mandated by JAX-RPC standard.
I have few questions:
(1) Are the OC4J J2EE web services completey different from JAX-RPC based web services.??
(2) Does Oracle have any implementation of JAX-RPC??
(3) Is Sun the only one promoting and implementing the JAX-RPC standard? Or are there other players?

OC4J J2EE Web Services originate from Oracle/Apache SOAP with several differences:

The packaging of the Web services rather than using the Apache SOAP registration mechanism uses something closer to JSR 109 (also known as Web Services for J2EE, part of J2EE 1.4 with JAX-RPC, SAAJ [SOAP API forAttachments in Java] and JAXP [Java API for XML Parsing]), where the Web service is packaged as an ordinary ear file for deployment.
Oracle built this implementation by extrapolating from the JAX-RPC documentation that was available last year before it was a final specification in an effort to release a production quality Web services implementation that was aligned with JAX-RPC. It has been through two releases - Oracle9iAS 9.02 and Oracle9iAS 9.0.3 and is now being evolved to JAX-RPC as we move to J2EE 1.4.
(2) Does Oracle have any implementation of JAX-RPC??
We are planning to release a JAX-RPC implementation in the new year (I don't have specific dates yet) on OC4J. The production implementation of this will be as seamless a migration as possible from the existing implementation. Oracle9i JDeveloper will also add support for JAX-RPC as a 3rd option in its list of choices available. You can get a sense of how such a migration would work by running the Web services wizard in JDev for Apache SOAP and then, in a separate project, running it for Oracle9iAS J2EE Web Services - imagine there being another option for JAX-RPC. The work to migrate should be as simple as running a wizard or command line utility (known as the Web Services Assembler tool in Oracle9iAS).
(3) Is Sun the only one promoting and implementing the JAX-RPC standard? Or are there other players?
Pretty much every one in the Java side of industry will be implementing JAX-RPC. The important time to note is when J2EE 1.4 is released ... sometime in the new year ... I believe around March but may be mistaken. Part of J2EE 1.4 is required support for JAX-RPC, SAAJ, Web Services for J2EE etc etc. This will standardize the implementation of Web services. Oracle, like others in the industry, supports the standard protocols, (SOAP), interfaces (WSDL) and registries (UDDI) - what J2EE 1.4 does is standardize the packaging, deployment and implementation (the wrappers generated by the tooling).
My guess is that around JavaOne (June 2003) there will be a rash of announcements from J2EE vendors announcing support of JAX-RPC and J2EE 1.4 (or early implementations) as we will be in the same race that happened in 2001/2002 when J2EE 1.3 was the spec to announce implementations around.

Cannot Run JAX-RPC Hello Service Example

Hello,
I am trying to run the helloservice example from the Java Web Services Tutorial v 1.3 (Chapter 12). Upon running the ant build task, I get the following error.
BUILD FAILED
file:C:/jwstutorial13/examples/jaxrpc/common/targets.xml:151: Warning: Could not
find file C:\jwstutorial13\examples\jaxrpc\helloservice\build\model.gz to copy.
I tried running the ant generate-sei-service task separately. This appears to complete successfully, yet, there is no model file generated.
Any help/suggestions/insights would be very much appreciated!

JAX-RPC Web services client error

Hi!
I use Jdevelop 10g 9.0.5.2 with JAX-RPC extension and OC4J 10.1.3.
I can develop RPC/literal and document/literal Web services, but when I try to run a client program I've got this error.
"Error: cannot access class oracle.j2ee.ws.saaj.soap.Constants; file oracle\j2ee\ws\saaj\soap\Constants.class not found"

I am attempting the same task. With different problems.
After creating a .war with deploytool, I try to deploy it to a OC4J that comes with JDev.
It result in an exception saying the Servlet is not a Servlet. Wich is true.
Do you know how to deploy this .war to an OC4J? (read IAS 9.0.3)

Is JAX-RPC compatible with Apache Axis?

We are starting a new project, and our design goal is to develop server-side API that is the exposed via Web Services. The goal is to have them run within the Sun Reference Implementation, and within Apache Axis.
My question is, if we develop to the JAX-RPC Specification, with occasional SAAJ calls for attachment processing, will our Web Services run within Apache Axis? In other words, it Apache Axis JAX-RPC and SAAJ-compatible?

It seems that the way they handle Attachments is different. Apache Axis seems to have its own way of handling Attachments, even though it is possible that they also support the standard JAX-RPC way.
Generally speaking, I am not very happy with how JAX-RPC handles attachments, but this is a different subject.

Store-and-forward SOAP messaging in JAX-RPC ??

JAXM seems dead (although SAAJ lives and is very useful). I want to implement a store-and-forward SOAP messaging system for EAI and give it a Java API. Can I do this in JAX-RPC? Does it make any sense?

I took a look into the etc/config.xml file and the path location of HelloWorldService.wsdl is fine as follows
"/home/medimg/pablo/jwsdp-1.3/jaxrpc/samples/HelloWorld/etc/HelloWorldService.wsdl"
BUT.. after "ant build", the path in th config.xml file automatically change for:
"/home/medimg/pablo/jwsdp-1.3/jaxrpc/samples/HelloWorld//home/medimg/pablo/jwsdp-1.3/jaxrpc/samples/HelloWorld/etc/HelloWorldService.wsdl"
Anybody knows how to solve this problem

I guess you need some changes in your build script.
One solution would be to specify correct value for location attribute in your config.xml and then
uncomment the call to "edit-config" target as show below in your build.xml file:

JAX-RPC client with JDeveloper 12c

Hello,
It's the first time I use jax-rpc (I'm used to jax-ws) and looking for help.
I need to create a client for a JAX-RPC web service using JDeveloper 12c.
The customer provided to me a WSDL file (I don't have access to the webservice yet). In JDeveloper I created as usual a "Web Service Client and Proxy" providing that wsdl file, but I think the generated code is for a JAX-WS (since there are @WebMethod, @WebServiceClient and @WebService notations that I understood should not be present in JAX-RPC clients.
Can anyone point me to some documentation about JAX-RPC client developing in JDeveloper 12?

BIweb service proxy JAX-RPC 1.1 method is not supported in WLS 8.1 clients

I have an application in oracle Application server and I'm migrating to weblogic 11g .
I have used web service proxy for BIPublisher 10.1.3.4 , careated by jdeveloper web service proxy wizard , when I want using it in weblogic , In corresponding form that uses BI Publisher web service proxy , I encounter following error :
"JAX-RPC 1.1 method is not supported in WLS 8.1 clients , if you attempting to run oc4j 10.1.3 JAX-RPC client in WLS,please see Web service Migration Guide for Instructions"
What should I do?

Spoke to dev and there was a bug logged, it seems to be down to Weblogic's implementation.
+This is pure WLS issue. The root cause of this problem is that Weblogic's
SAAJ implementation. No codechange on BIP server side
WLS 10 ships with two SAAJ implementations. By default the buggy 9.x
implementation is used (which lives in the package
weblogic.webservice.core.soap), but there is a new implementation, which
supports SAAJ 1.3 (which lives in the package weblogic.xml.saaj). I also
checked in a debugging jsp page, which could help looking at the DEBUG
logging to see which SAAJ implementation is used.

To use this new version, you have to make sure setting the
-Djavax.xml.soap.MessageFactory=weblogic.xml.saaj.MessageFactoryImpl
in startWebLogic script. +
