Safari can't load any web pages

I just installed Safari on a WinXP Pro machine and it shows a Can't Open Web Page error when trying to access any web page, while FireFox and IE function without problem. There are no proxies; local firewall is disabled; tried re-installing and clearing App Data. Safari loads file:// pages OK, so it appears to be something in the network access. (Not a DNS issue since I tried loading by IP address as well.)
Any ideas?

I am using 4.42 version of safari.i did not get any message the thing is that when i enter my user name an password it just refresh the login page.

This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
    Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins and log in as Guest. For instructions, launch the System Preferences application, select Help from the menu bar, and enter “Set up a guest account” (without the quotes) in the search box.
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your personal files or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem(s)?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault in Mac OS X 10.7 or later, then you can’t enable the Guest account. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
    Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Be sure your Mac is shut down.
    Press the power button.
Immediately after you hear the startup tone, hold the Shift key. The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone, but not before the tone.
Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple icon and the progress indicator (looks like a spinning gear).
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Note: If FileVault is enabled under Mac OS X 10.7 or later, you can’t boot in safe mode.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem(s)?
After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of steps 1 and 2.

  • Safari won't load ANY web pages!

safari just stopped running web pages all of a sudden. i think it started after i upgraded to 10.3.9. safari bounces and opens up. then it attempts load a page. after a few minutes it gives me a message of "Safari could not open the page “http://livepage.apple.com/” because the server stopped responding." it's the same with every site i try going to. i've already tried to empty the cache, reset safari, disk utility, and deleting the history and bookmarks. if any one has any idea I would love to hear it

Can you use another browser such as Firefox or Camino? Shiira doesn't count because it is based on the same foundation as Safari.
Also what happens if you try a new, clean user account? To create a new account, open System Preferences and click on Accounts. You may have to click on the padlock and give your admin name and password to create an account. Click on the plus sign in the lower right corner to create the new account. I see no reason to give it a password. You can delete this account later using using the minus key, although I have kept my second account to use for testing (the user folder only takes up 32 kb).
And for those still using anything earlier than OS X 10.4.4, I strongly suggest running either the regular 10.4.4 update (which can only be used if you have 10.4.3) or the combo update. The latter will make sure your system is up to snuff. There were lots of fixes in general and several specifically to Safari in this update.

  • Safari can't load some web pages since Lion upgrade

Safari recently stopped loading my bank web site after I put in my log in informatoin. I leaves the log in page and then never goes to the next page. This has started after loading Lion. I have no issue when using Firefox. Only Safari. Any suggestions.

Safari recently stopped loading my bank web site after I put in my log in informatoin
    Could be a corrupted keychain.
Quit Safari. Open Keychain Access. Select Passwords on the left.
Delete the bank keychain and the Safari Forms Autofill keychain.
Relaunch Safari. From the menu bar click Safari / Preferences then select the Autofill tab.
Make sure: User names and passwords is selected.
Now click the Privacy tab. Click: Details. Delete the web address for the bank click Done.
Now to your bank's site. Login with your user name and password. You should be prompted to save that data to a new keychain, click Yes when prompted.

  • Talk Talk wifi connection but safari will not load any web pages?

I have a new Ipad and it is connected to TalkTalk wifi. But the problem is that Safari will not load a single web page?
Are there any known issues with this problem. My PC connects to the same wifi network and is running fine.
The build bar for the web page I try to access turns 3/4 blue but then gives an error message, 'cannot connect to server'
TalkTalk call centre kept saying that they do not support Ipad? But would not elaborate!
Apple call centre updated IOS 6.1.2 and reset network settings but no solution as yet.
Do I need to take this back?
Has anyone had a similar problem?

    How old is your MBP?
    Do you have APP?
Does this happen all the time? Does it happen on a specific site? What internet connection do you have?

  • Safari unresponsive when loading any web page

I'm running Yosemite and I think I may have accidentally caused this problem after running ChronoSync for the first time since upgrading.  Normally syncing my two computers is problem-free, but after this sync I must have screwed up some files related to Safari because now whenever I tell it to go to ANY webpage it starts to load (the blue bar is moving) and then the beach ball stats spinning and I have to Force Quit.
I have tried restarting, starting in Safe Mode (no difference), tried turning off Safari extensions (no difference), running disk repair (no problems), and then tried reinstallling Yosemite (not a clean install) with no improvement.  This is not an intermittent problem, it's completely consistent and triggered only by loading a webpage.  Any thoughts? Thanks.

Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.
See "Basic Troubleshooting: Make a new profile":
There may be extensions and plugins installed by default in a new profile, so check that in "Tools > Add-ons > Extensions & Plugins" in case there are still problems.
If that new profile works then you can transfer some files from the old profile to that new profile, but be careful not to copy corrupted files.

  • Connected to wifi network but safari can't find any web pages

my wifi connection is shown as connected but when i go to safari it says i am not connected to the internet. itunes, you tube, maps, etc. don't work either. does anyone have any ideas? i've seen suggestions on here but none seem to work for me

    emertone,
Have you tried using a static IP configuration on your iPad instead of DHCP?
Settings->General->Network->wifi-> (arrow beside the current active wifi connection)? If you see an IP address like 169.x.x.x you are having a problem with getting a DHCP lease.
First make sure that MAC address filters are not enabled on your router. If they are, disable them and see if DHCP then works. It should give you a 192.168.x.x IP address. You may need to reboot the iPad or the connection to trigger DHCP.
If it doesn't work, and you still see a 169.x.x.x IP address, select "Static" instead of "DHCP"
    - set IP to for example 192.168.0.155 (last part can be 0-255 but choose somewhere in the middle to avoid collision with DHCP assigned addresses)
    - subnet 255.255.255.0
    - router 192.168.0.1
    - dns 192.168.0.1
Depending on your router you may need to use 192.168.1 instead of 192.168.0 in the above addresses, but try 0 first

  • Safari won't load ANY web page

    Hello,
Safari 2.0.4 running on OS 10.4.8 will show the url in the address bar, and the status bar will say "Contacting 'www.apple.com' " but nothing ever loads in the browser.
My internet connection seems solid enough with Firefox and IE only Safari and Dashboard Widgets seem effected. I am connecting via ethernet, router & dsl. I've tried logging in on a different user account and the problem is the same there too. I've tried loading HTML documents from my local drive and it will not load them either so I don't think it has to do with my internet connection. There is no spinning ball, and the browser doesn't hang up or crash it just consistantly shows a blank white browser window. I've cleared the cache & history. It will not show bookmarks either.
I thought I'd try to download a fresh copy of Safari and re-install it but the latest version I find on Apple's website is Safari2.0.1 and when I try to run it's installer it insists it cannot install because I need 10.4.2 even though I am running 10.4.8.
Any suggestions on how to solve this are appreciated.
    Thank you!
    G4 dual processor   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

    Welcome to Apple Discussions
Thanks for your thorough description of the problem and steps you have taken. Good you tested from another User Account. The problem is system-wide, since the other User Account showed the same condition.
After upgrading to 10.4.8, did you remember to "repair permissions" via Disk Utility in your Utility folder? If not, please do so, then restart Safari and see if all is well.
If no change, I suggest reapplying the 10.4.8 combined update, repairing permissions via Disk Utility after the install restart.
    Post back.

Tried using a different connection, Internet Explorer, still doesn't work!

    Check the connection settings.
    *Tools > Options > Advanced : Network : Connection > Settings
    *https://support.mozilla.org/kb/Options+window+-+Advanced+panel
If you do not need to use a proxy to connect to internet then try to select "No Proxy" if the "Use the system proxy settings" setting or one of the others doesn't work properly.

  • Safari wont load any web pages

I've been using both Safari (2.x) and Firefox in my MBP for a coupel of months w/o problems. Now all the sudden Safari will not load any web pages. FX still works ok. Has anyone had a simialr problem? It's almost like Safari doesnt recognize you are connected to the internet.

    Same thing to me!
I downloaded it 3 days ago, installed it and it never worked. The option to set up the proxy server was grayed out. My IE and firefox are working perfectly (of course I set up the proxy server on each browser), basically Safari doesn't open any web page. I'd like try this browser but I don't have idea how configure it, if anybody knows how to, I'll appreciate it.

  • Safari update to 5.1.5, on snow leopard, now safari won't open any web page.

Just installed Safari update to 5.1.5 and now Safari won't load any web page. • Can not open any web page in Safari

can not open any web page in Safari on the IPad.  All other wireless features work fine.

If this does not work then try a reset ,
Reset your iPad by pressing the 'Sleep' and 'Home' button at the same time for about 15 seconds or so. Your iPad  will then go through a reset / reboot procedure and will be ready for use within about a minute.
Don't worry about doing this as you will not lose data or settings.
Good luck and do report back.

  • Haveing problems with Safari. It gives me an error message. Safari can't open the web page, because it can't establish a secure connection to the server. It only seams to have a problem on https sites. Any help would be apreciated.

It only seams to have a problem with https sites.
    Any help would be appreciated

The "s" in "https" indicates the site is a secure server--usually a site that will require a password.  Connections to secure servers can be blocked by parental controls.  Are you using any parental controls, either through OSX's settings (in System Preferences) or third party parental control software (such as Netnanny)?  If so, check the settings to make sure they will allow the connection.
