Safari locking up entire OS
I've noticed a problem with Safari where it will randomly stop responding and take the entire Operating System and all open apps with it.
There doesn't seem to be a pattern to this however at least twice a day the browser will stop responding, I'll get the spinning beachball and I cannot switch application to Finder or do anything with the machine until I force it off and back on by holding the power button for 5 seconds.
I've tried re-formatting the hard drive and re-installing Mountain Lion however this doesn't fix the issue.
I've also noticed periodically that Safari will load sites but the window becomes unresponsive, you cannot click on any links until you quit the browser and relaunch it again.
This is happening on both a MacBook Pro & Core i7 iMac running OS X 10.8 (12A269) and Safari 6.0 (build 8536.25)
Any ideas?
Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It won’t solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
Third-party system modifications are a common cause of usability problems. By a “system modification,” I mean software that affects the operation of other software — potentially for the worse. The following procedure will help identify which such modifications you've installed. Don’t be alarmed by the complexity of these instructions — they’re easy to carry out and won’t change anything on your Mac.
These steps are to be taken while booted in “normal” mode, not in safe mode. If you’re now running in safe mode, reboot as usual before continuing.
Below are instructions to enter some UNIX shell commands. The commands are harmless, but they must be entered exactly as given in order to work. If you have doubts about the safety of the procedure suggested here, search this site for other discussions in which it’s been followed without any report of ill effects.
Some of the commands will line-wrap or scroll in your browser, but each one is really just a single line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, and you can then either copy or drag it. The headings “Step 1” and so on are not part of the commands.
Note: If you have more than one user account, Step 2 must be taken as an administrator. Ordinarily that would be the user created automatically when you booted the system for the first time. The other steps should be taken as the user who has the problem, if different. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this paragraph doesn’t apply.
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the page that opens.
When you launch Terminal, a text window will open with a line already in it, ending either in a dollar sign (“$”) or a percent sign (“%”). If you get the percent sign, enter “sh” and press return. You should then get a new line ending in a dollar sign.
Step 1
Copy or drag — do not type — the line below into the Terminal window, then press return:
kextstat -kl | awk '!/com\.apple/{printf "%s %s\n", $6, $7}'
Post the lines of output (if any) that appear below what you just entered (the text, please, not a screenshot.) You can omit the final line ending in “$”.
Step 2
Repeat with this line:
sudo launchctl list | sed 1d | awk '!/0x|com\.(apple|openssh|vix)|edu\.mit|org\.(amavis|apache|cups|isc|ntp|postfix|x)/{print $3}'
This time, you'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning not to screw up. You don't need to post the warning.
Note: If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before taking this step. If that’s not possible, skip to the next step.
Step 3
launchctl list | sed 1d | awk '!/0x|com\.apple|edu\.mit|org\.(x|openbsd)/{print $3}'
Step 4
ls -1A /e*/mach* {,/}L*/{Ad,Compon,Ex,Fram,In,Keyb,La,Mail/Bu,P*P,Priv,Qu,Scripti,Servi,Spo,Sta}* L*/Fonts 2> /dev/null
Important: If you formerly synchronized with a MobileMe account, your me.com email address may appear in the output of the above command. If so, anonymize it before posting.
Step 5
osascript -e 'tell application "System Events" to get name of every login item' 2> /dev/null
Remember, steps 1-5 are all drag-and-drop or copy-and-paste, whichever you prefer — no typing, except your password. Also remember to post the output.
You can then quit Terminal.

Safari locked out by Malicious Virus Attack...
Today my Safari was locked out and this warning popped up on my screen. "
Critical Security Warning! Your Mac is infected with a malicious virus attack.
Please contact tech support at +1-888-307-2735 and provide error code WBACK7917 to scan and resolve any potential threats to your personal and financial information, which was being tracked by suspicious connection.
Consequently we are performing additional security checks to verify the source of the attack and have halted all your system resources in order to prevent any additional damage to your system and information."
I called the number but the rep didn't identify herself only stated that they work with Apple & Safarii to help reduce these problems, then proceeded to ask for permission to enter my laptop remotely. I colorfully told her where she could go. So my Safari is locked out, MacKeeper hasn't identified the problem and the Safari app doesn't show in Mackeeper for me to uninstall the entire application. Please help me get rid of Safari then load a brand new one without the Debbie does Dallas getting her sticky fingers in my MaBbook Pro (17-inch) OS X updated 10.10.1 Yosemite.
How can I uninstall Safari on my MacBook Pro when it is entwined into the OS X operating system? Then reinstall a clean version.dominic23

"This is a scam.
1. Force Quit .
Press command + option + esc keys together at the same time. Wait.
When Force Quit window appears, select Safari if not already.
Press Force Quit button at the bottom of the window. Wait.
Safari will quit.
2. Relaunch Safari holding the shift key down.
3. Turn off wifi and turn it back on.
Turn off Wifi. Click Wifi icon in the menu bar and select “Turn Wifi off”.
Visit another website.
You won’t have internet connection.
Turn on Wifi. Click Wifi icon in the menu bar and select “Turn Wifi on”.
Select your Network."
Your solution worked until I opened Safari again. I tried it several times, but the pop-up messages keep returning while locking the Safari screen.
Any other suggestions?

Safari locks up immediately upon opening. Won't reset.
We installed OS X about a week ago. A few days into using it Safari locked up and crashed. Tried restarting starting Safari but it immediately freezes on the window asking if you would like to reopen the tabs that were open. Have to then do a force quit. Have tried holding shift and re-opening. Same results. Have tried deleting all the "cache.db's", no luck. Have tried re-installing OS X...still didn't fix it. Tabs it is locked on are Gmail, Facebook and AOL. OS X won't let me delete Safari and re-install it. Any other suggestions? Thanks!
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.
Step 1
For this step, the title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select
SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages
from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar at the top of the screen.
In the top right corner of the Console window, there's a search box labeled Filter. Initially the words "String Matching" are shown in that box. Enter the name of the crashed application or process. For example, if Safari crashed, you would enter "Safari" (without the quotes.)
Each message in the log begins with the date and time when it was entered. Select the messages from the time of the last crash, if any. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.
☞ The log contains a vast amount of information, almost all of which is irrelevant to solving any particular problem. When posting a log extract, be selective. A few dozen lines are almost always more than enough.
Please don't indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Please don't post screenshots of log messages—post the text.
☞ Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.
Step 2
In the Console window, select
DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION ▹ User Diagnostic Reports
(not Diagnostic and Usage Messages) from the log list on the left. There is a disclosure triangle to the left of the list item. If the triangle is pointing to the right, click it so that it points down. You'll see a list of crash reports. The name of each report starts with the name of the process, and ends with ".crash". Select the most recent report related to the process in question. The contents of the report will appear on the right. Use copy and paste to post the entire contents—the text, not a screenshot.
I know the report is long, maybe several hundred lines. Please post all of it anyway.
If you don't see any reports listed, but you know there was a crash, you may have chosen Diagnostic and Usage Messages from the log list. Choose DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION instead.
In the interest of privacy, I suggest that, before posting, you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.)
Please don’t post other kinds of diagnostic report—they're very long and rarely helpful. -
Mouse tooltip is locking the entire system
Hello friends at www.oracle.com ,
after defining some tooltips to Forms fields like text items, display items, push buttons, etc., I've seen that the following sequence of actions may cause a system lock. (Assume there's a main Forms program, and a Forms sub-program has been called through main menu.)
1. Put the mouse pointer over a field that has tooltip text.
2. Close the Forms sub-program by pressing ALT-F4 (Windows shortcut to close any program); it will take you back to the Forms main program. (Tooltip text will still stay stopped at mouse position)
3. Move to another Windows program, like Explorer for example, and try to return to the main program. This main program is now locked, shows the 'Working...' message at hint line, and stays locked.
Only CTRL+ALT+DEL will stop it, and the Forms main program never sends any answer.
Could you please tell me why does a simple tooltip may lock an entire system?
Hope I was clear - if not, please ask me.
Thanks, and best regards,
Franklin Gongalves Jr.Quit the App Store app and reset your iPad.
Double click the Home button to show the screen with running and recently used apps. Each app icon will have a sample page above it. Flick up on the page (not the app icon) and the page will fly away and the app icon will disappear. This quits that app. Then reset your device. Press and hold the Home and Sleep buttons simultaneously until the Apple logo appears. Let go of the buttons and let the device restart. See if that fixes your problem. -
Safari locks up after installing Mavericks
Ever since I installed Mavericks, Safari locks up (rainbow pinwheel) when I try to quit the application. I tried the Glims uninstall mentioned elsewhere on here to no avail. This has been going on since the Mavericks launch a month or so ago. I've never had this problem with Safari before. Any advice?
Try setting up another admin user account to see if the same problem continues. If Back-to-My Mac is selected in System Preferences, the Guest account will not work. The intent is to see if it is specific to one account or a system wide problem. This account can be deleted later.
Isolating an issue by using another user account
If the problem is still there, try booting into the Safe Mode using your normal account. Disconnect all peripherals except those needed for the test. Shut down the computer and then power it back up. Immediately after hearing the startup chime, hold down the shift key and continue to hold it until the gray Apple icon and a progress bar appear. The boot up is significantly slower than normal. This will reset some caches, forces a directory check, and disables all startup and login items, among other things. When you reboot normally, the initial reboot may be slower than normal. If the system operates normally, there may be 3rd party applications which are causing a problem. Try deleting/disabling the third party applications after a restart by using the application un-installer. For each disable/delete, you will need to restart if you don't do them all at once.

Safari locks up every time I try to log into a website
This just began happening about a week ago. It does not matter which website, but almost every time I submit a login form to any website Safari locks up and I must force it to quite. This has happened on Twitter, Hootsuite, Facebook, online banking and at least a dozen other sites. I can connect fine using third party authorizations like Google.

Hi...
Go to ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari/Cache.db
For Lion v10.7x: To find the Home folder in OS X Lion, open the Finder, hold the Option key, and choose Go > Library
Move the Cache.db file to the Trash.
Try Safari.
If that didn't help ...
This has happened on Twitter, Hootsuite, Facebook, online banking and at least a dozen other sites.
Open Keychain Access located in /Applications/Utilities
Select Password on the left. Use the search field top right corner of that window to find all the sites you have problems with. Once you locate the keychain, right or control click the keychain then click Delete.
Then from the Keychain Access menu bar click Keychain Access > Keychain First Aid
Quit then relaunch Safari.
/Applications/Cobook.app/Contents/MacOS/Cobook
Using a third party contacts app rather than the native Mac OS X pre installed Address Book located in your Applications folder may not be helping matters any.
/Applications/Akamai
You don't need the Adami software. Use Download AppCleaner for Mac

Need some help. Been looking for updates for Safari for windows no luck so far.. Now need the help of experts... Safari locks when opening a page that opens a PDF file. Is some-one able to help with info?
I know I'm bad windows....Safari (3.1.1) crashes each time I open a pdf file, even when i just access it from a local drive. I use adobe acrobat 8.1.2. Reading pdf files via Safari used to work fine until a certain Acrobat update a couple of months ago.
The behavior is that when I open any pdf file, it will display for about 5 seconds, and then shut down all the Safari Windows and Safari itself. When Safari is not loaded, clicking on the pdf will open Safari, and then shut it down after 5 seconds.
Please help? and thanks! -
Using lasted Safari, it has locked up my mac, I can't close the application. It won't let me turn off the computer. If I do and turn it back on I am right back on the safari locked up screen. Any help would be appreciated.
No problem Steve, If you have any other issues or concerns feel free to come here for help and there is always someone willing to help out!

Updating a row in table exclusive lock on entire table
Hi
We have table master table and few child tables .
when we try to update a row in master table , it is locking entire table
i.e seems update process holding exclusive lock on entire table
it is not allowing any furthur update to that table
Could you please tell me what could be the problem for that
Thanks,
- AKDoes the table has primary key - foreign key relationship? Try disabling the constraint and see if it works. If it works then it is about unindexed foreign key issue.

Safari locks up on my macbook air and can not be restarted.
Safari locks up on my macbook air and can not be restarted. Doing a reboot gets me back to normal but every time I restart Safari it goes to the locked up page.
Quit Safari. If it won't quit in the usual way, select

from the menu bar, then select Safari from the list and press return.
Relaunch Safari by holding down the shift key and clicking its icon in the Dock. That will stop the bad page from reloading automatically. From the menu bar, select

Safari locks up on Yahoo news videos. They work fine on Firefox. Safari doesn't actually crash. It simply becomes unresponsive and I have to force quit it. When I launch Safari again, no sites will load. If I quit Safari and start it again, this time it works. Any suggestions?

Safari locks up on specific website
Occasionally Safari locks up while I am working. It isn't a consistent problem but when it occurs It will not allow any activity on that particular web site. This just happened and I closed out the site and have attempted multiple times to load it again and it will not open. The site is a university learning management system website. I am able to get on then site using Internet Explorer so the site is not down.
Any suggestions will be most appreciated!

Lock the entire computer, except for one program?
I am having my 20th high school reunion this weekend and was wondering if there is a way to lock my entire MacBook except for a guestbook I would probably make in Filemaker Pro or something. Thanks in advance!
create a normal user (no admin) , and censured all the program except filemaker. you can find this option in account setting.

After the latest OS update, Safari locks up when trying to flip back to the previous page
After the latest OS update, Safari locks up when trying to flip back to the previous page using the two finger sweep.
Try these in order testing your system after each to see if it's back to normal:
1. a. Resetting your Mac's PRAM and NVRAM
b. Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)
2. Restart the computer in Safe Mode, then restart again, normally. If this doesn't help, then:
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the
COMMAND and R keys until the Utilities menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and
after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears.
Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
3. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu. Select Restart from the Apple menu.
Reinstall the 10.9.2 update: OS X Mavericks 10.9.2 Update (Combo).
4. Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks: Reboot from the Recovery HD. Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks from the Utilities menu, and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.

Safari Locks Up When Filling Out PDF Form.
I'm trying to fill out a PDF form online that when completed, it sends to an e-mail address. After I fill out a random amount of fields, it comes up with the box (snapshot of it is here (and posted below): /___sbsstatic___/migration-images/110/11008709-1.jpg ). I cannot click (or "enter") away the box at all. Basically Safari locks up and I have to force quit it.
Any suggestions?Well, since I'm not running 10.5, I can't be certain if that toolbar you see if for Safari or Acrobat Reader. But if you look in /Applications/InputManagers and/or /Applications/Internet Plug-Ins, you should see an Adobe PDF plugin file (or something with a very similar name. If you have that, that means Safari is using Adobe Reader to render those files.
Even so, try filling out and submitting the form using Firefox to see if that works.
