Safari on Windows could not accept self-signed certificate

Hi, i am using Safari 5.0.4 on Windows 7 and I am trying to access an https site with a self-signed certificate (internal developing site).
after i install the certificate to the Windows certificate store (i try both Personal store and Trusted Root Certification), when i try to browse the site, Safari asks me to choose a certificate, after i choose it, after a long hang time, Safari displays "Safari can't open the page".
My questions are:
1. Any one has configured safari on windows to accept self-signed certificate successfully?
2. i see some other posts saying "Safari on Windows has bug to use the self-signed certificate", any official document or link saying this if this is true?

That was from tossing the /internet explorer import self-signed certificate/ query at Google, and some poking around.  StackOverflow and Microsoft Technet and the Microsoft KBs have more details on Microsoft platforms and products and permutations, too.
The usual best fix with this stuff is to create your own certificate authority (CA) root certificate and to configure that within your chosen platforms and browsers, but I do not know (off-hand) how to do that on Microsoft Windows boxes.  Google or some KB probably has details of loading your own root cert.  This approach means loading one cert, and the rest of what you create that's signed from that cert will now automatically be trusted.  Basically you become your own CA provider, load your root cert into each of your clients, and then issue your own certs chained from your own root cert, and Bob's Your Uncle.

  • How pass client credentials to ws client and accept self signed certificate

How do you connect to a web service over ssl and accept self-signed certificates. I generated the client using JAX-WS but i ran into two problems. First of all, how do you pass the client credentials? And second, how can you accept a self-signed certificate?

    Thanks for your comments Jason.
I'm not quite sure why the certificate has client auth. It does seem to be a misconfiguration, but I do see both 7.3.1 & 7.3.2 on the cert. That seems like a possible fix, but in a backwards way.  I can get those certificates reissued, but I'm confused
as to why config manager itself is not installing per the site settings.
My default install is via a vbs script you wrote (1.6.5).  The other methods I've tried in this particular instance are by browsing to the server and running ccmsetup.exe from explorer out of my sms_<site> directory, and by using command line
    specifying the /mp:mp.mysite.com
I looked for command line switches to use, but there's no /NoUsePKI switch or /UseSelfSigned...
any suggestions for a better installation method?

  • Cannot accept self-signed certificate on some machines

I'm trying to connect to a certain server that uses a self-signed certificate - the admin thinks that's safer than accepting thousands of unknown intermediate CAs, and he has a point; witness the Certificate Patrol add-on.
When I try from some client machines with various OS, FireFox versions etc., it works. I can accept the certificate permanently.
But on at least 3 machines, I get an error message "unable to obtain identification status for the given site", and I cannot confirm an exception and get to the site at all.
2 of those machines have FF 10.0.4. But on another machine with FF 10.0.4, there is no problem.
On machines where I can store an exception, when I look in the certificate manager, the certificate is marked "(not stored)", and I cannot view it. What does that mean ? A few other certs in the server store are also marked not stored, while most have a certificate name and are viewable, along with one marked "no nickname".

The issue seems to revolve around a cached HTTPS redirect when the server certificate has changed. I have filed https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=767611
The "not stored" issue I realize is due to a permanent excep[tion for a self-signed certificate being stored as a certificate authority, with a placeholder in the servers tab

  • RV120W- How to create new unique self-signed certificate?

    Hello,
how to create new unique self-signed certificate on RV120W? I can create request for singning by external CA, but I cannot create new unique self-signed certificate itself. Any idea? Did I miss something? Many thanks!
    Abudef

So basically RV120W does not support self-signed certificate? It only allows to generate private key and certificate signin request. There is no chance to replace default generic ssl/vpn certifice within router itself? Could you please give me an advice, how to sign that request by some "CA"? I mean no commercial CA, I need something free running under Windows os. Many thanks!

  • Safari could not establish secure connection to my localhost with self signed certificate

was using maven+grizzly+jersey to start my own server. I created self signed certificate so that my server can support https. I case you are curious, following is how I generated my certificate
I was testing this on my iMac (Running Mavericks) Now, I added the server.cert to the system keychain so that all users can trust this certificate. Also, I change the trust level to "Always Trust".
I get this work in Chrome and Firefox. They asked me to add exception for this certificate, I did and then everything goes fine. However, I have never make Safari(7.0) happy. I always get the error saying that Safari cannot establish secure connection to my localhost.
Does anyone have any idea why it happened? Or is there better way to debug this problem so that I will be able to tell at which step things goes wrong.
Thank you in advance. I really appreciated it.

    Any help much appreciated!

  • Safari 7 on OSX 10.9 not enjoying SSL self signed certificates

    Hello people from the web,
I am experiencing a weird issue with self signed certificates. Since I upgraded to OSX 10.9 (Maverick) I am not able to connect to an HTTPS site protected by a self signed SSL certificate. The only remaining browser on my computer able to do the trick is Firefox (24). Chrome (30) and Safari (7) cannot.
Have you experienced the same issue? Have you found a solution?
On my quest for a solution I found this article:
    http://curl.haxx.se/mail/archive-2013-10/0036.html
However it seems to me this is more the webkit common engine causing the issue. Is it possible that Webkit has become more picky with SSL Certificates? In which case how to generate a cutom one that would suit Safari 7 and Chrome 30+?
Thank you for any help you could provide

  • Mail App Not Working with Self-Signed Certificates

First and foremost, I apologise for starting another thread that is 90% similar to others but I wanted to avoid falling into an existing context.  Like may others, I am having issues with the Mail App in Mavericks but I have an email account other than G-Mail.
That being said, here is the issue I am having.  Until recently I never had an issue sending and receiving email from various accounted.  My Internet provider, an Exchange account, even a G-Mail account.
Yesterday, my Web hosting provider issued a new (self-signed) certificate as the old one had expired (which was also a self-signed certificate).  While I am able to still receive messages, I am no longer able to send any.
I have tried numberous possible solutions to no avail.  I have removed and readded my email account, I have refreshed my SMTP settings, I have removed all semblence of the account from my Key Chain, added the Certificate manually with full trust, and I have even flushed the caches from my ~/Library/ folder.  The last one perked up the Mail App but did not restore my ability to send messages from my Web provider's SMTP server.
I suspect this is a bug in the Mail App but I'm hoping I can find a few last solutions before I file a bug report.
In the meantime, I am using another outgoing server from my Internet provider.  It will do but for consistency I'd much rather use the outgoing server that came with the email account in question.
I am all but convinced it is the Mail App as Thunderbird is able to use the SMTP server just fine and I am still able to send messages using the exact same settings on my iPhone and iPad.
In case it helps, I am using a Early 2011 MacBook Pro with the latest Mavericks update (which ironically was meant to solve some issues other users had with the Mail App).
On a related note, I wish I had stayed on Snow Leopard.  I did not have a single issue with that OS.  Now I feel like I am working on Windows Vista again and I am waiting for the Apple version of Windows 7 to set things right.

I get the spinning wheel up by my Wi-Fi signal that suggests it's attempting to do something, but the bottom of the Inbox only says "Updated Yesterday." Has anyone else experienced this or can someone, especially an Apple employee, tell me how to fix this?
There is no Apple in this user to user technical forum, if you want an Apple employee you would need to take your phone to the Apple store.
What happens when you switch to using cellular data?  Does your email update?
FYI - Yahoo email account is notoriously bad, you can try their app.

  • Windows could not start the distributed transaction coordinator service on local computer

    Dear All,
I'm having an issue starting the DTC service in windows 7 OS. I always got the error message below when im trying to start it.
"Windows could not start the distributed transaction coordinator service on local computer"
    Thanks,
    Melvin

    Hi Melvin,
Please try the following methods to solve this issue:
Method 1: Re-create the MS DTC log, and then restart the service.
    Click
Start, type cmd in the search box, and then press
    Enter.
    Type the command
msdtc -resetlog at the command prompt, and then press
    Enter.
Warning: The msdtc -resetlog command can cause data corruption if it is used incorrectly. Make sure that you do not have any pending transactions when you run this
    command.
Type the command net start msdtc, and then press
    Enter.
Method 2: Set the logon account permissions for the MS DTC service
If Method 1 does not resolve the problem, set the logon account for the MS DTC service to have read and write permissions for the Msdtc.log file. Please follow the steps below:
    Click
Start, type cmd in the search box, and then press
    Enter.
    Type the command
control admintools at the command prompt, and then press
    Enter.
    Double-click
    Services.
    In the Services pane, locate
    Distributed Transaction Coordinator.
    In the
Log On As column, note the account name.  Note: The default logon account for the MS DTC service is the NETWORK SERVICE account.
    Start Windows Explorer, and
    then open the %windir%\System32\Msdtc folder.
    Right-click the
Msdtc.log file, and then click Properties.
    Click the
    Security tab.
Click the logon account name that you noted
in step 5. For example, click the NETWORK SERVICE account name.
    In the
Permissions pane, click to select the Allow check box for the following permissions: ◦Read & Execute
    ◦Read    ◦Write
    Click
    OK.
    Click
Yes to accept the security warning.
    In the
Services pane, right-click Distributed Transaction Coordinator, and then click
    Start.
Method 3: Assign permissions to the NETWORK service to traverse the directory tree
Determine whether the NETWORK service has permissions to traverse through the folder. To do this, follow these steps.
Note: By default, the "Everyone" group has these permissions. For more information, go to the following Microsoft TechNet website:
    Bypass traverse checking
    Click
Start, type secpol.msc in the search box, and then press
    Enter.
Browse through the following computer configuration:
            \Windows Settings\Security Settings\Local Policies\User Rights Assignment
Check for "Bypass traverse checking," and then add the "Everyone" group.
Update the Group Policy settings on the computer. To do this, click
Start, type gpupdate in the search box, and then press
    Enter.
    In the
Services pane, right-click Distributed Transaction Coordinator, and then click
    Start.

  • "Windows could not complete the installation" after restoring Lenovo T61 to factory settings, help!

    Hi everyone;
I recently tried to restore T61 laptop to factory settings and I received the message "Windows could not complete the installation. To install windows on this computer, restart the installation". I used Dr. Google to see if I could fix the problem; but unfortunately after re-starting multiple times, restoring to factory settings (after changes to the Administrator account as well as "Oobe" settings, in any number of combinations); I still get the same error message. Any thoughts? I'm attempting to reinstall Windows Vista Business. I do apologize I'm not a computer person so if you need any additional details please let me know; thanks in advance!

    Hi,
It may be a good idea to run a couple of hardware tests.
    Shut down the notebook.
Tap away at the esc key as you start the notebook to enter the Start-up Menu.  Select the Diagnostic Menu option ( f2 ) and run the tests on the Hard Drive and Memory.
If you get any error messages/codes, post back with the details.
If the tests pass, you can order a replacement set of Recovery Discs starting on the link below - the cost does vary a little depending on where you live, but they're generally inexpensive.
    Order HP Recovery Media.
If you have any problem with this link, see if you can order this directly from HP.
If you live in the US, contact HP Here.
If you are in another part of the world, start Here.

  • "Windows could not complete the installation"

I took delivery of a new T400 today. Imagine my surprise upon turning it on to see the Windows F8 recovery menu, and a message about the system not having been shut down cleanly. Strange thing on a machine straight from the facory !
Well anyway I let it boot into the normal mode. Next the OS booted and something obviously ran to install updates. I suspect that one of these failed. Eventually I was presented with a dialog that says "Windows could not complete the installation" and "To install Windows on this computer, restart the installation". Sadly this same dialog displays regardless of how many times I reboot.
Reading the scanty doc that came with the machine, it appears to have a recovery partition and a way to invoke a factory restore from the partition. Unfortunately entering recovery mode does not work (I press F11 and it goes ahead and boots into Vista anyway).
Next I tried calling Lenovo. They politely said that they are not working at this hour and I should call back in the morning. Well I am planning to take this new laptop on a business trip in the morning and won't have time to call before I have to be at the airport.
So back to self-diagnosis...I found that when in the 'All your install are belong to us' mode, I could press ctl-alt-del and get task manager up. From there I could run commands such as cmd.exe and msconfig. Using msconfig I opened the event viewer. Nothing too interesting in there, except that a service or driver called tuvu...somethign didn't start.
Another thing I found is that there is no way any longer to get to the F8 safe mode menu on boot. It just blips on the screen for a nanosecond and then it's gone (even if you have pressed F8). So I used msconfig to boot into safe mode. That didn't help.
I've always bought cheapo off-brand laptops from Costco, and this was my first 'premium brand' purchase. To say the least I am not impressed. Surely Lenovo can spare 10 minutes to ensure that each machine actually boots before they ship ??
Any pointers on how to fix this machine are most welcome.
UPDATE : I made some progress on my own. On a whim I decided to go looking for the process that had so rudely decided that I couldn't use my computer. Browsing the process list in taskman, I noticed something called 'runonce.exe'. So I did the obvious thing and killed it. Bingo ! I now have the vista desktop and the machine appears to be working just fine. It's now updating. Presumably I can find and disable this thing that used the runonce wrapper and I'll be good to go,.

I had this same problem on my T61 and after seeing yoru post I imaged my system successfully to get rid of the problem on my system. You can image it without making burning any discs. What I did was hit the Thinkvantage button during boot, chose the Restor System option, chose full factory reset, chose to delete all my files and then chose the custom option for recovery. I don't remember exactly which items I unchecked, but there were a few towards the end that had OOBE in the name. I let it complete the restore and it seems to be working fine now. So you might want to try doing it that way, I was hoping that one of the things I unchecked was whatever was causing the system to crash near the end of install and mess up the Vista installation.
Good luck! Hopefully this will work for you instead of just wasting like 3 hours...

  • "Windows Could Not Complete the Installation" G410

    Hi,
Would greatly appreciate any advice for this.
My laptop (G410) first started having temporary freezing issues when I loaded up Powerpoint. Next thing i know, the laptop dies and whenever I turned it on, it kept getting stuck in the Lenovo loading screen.
After a while, I managed to activate the refresh but now I am stuck with the following message: "Windows could not complete the installation". This happens when the setting up a few more things screen reaches 3%.
Any solutions to this? The laptop is only a few months old.
    Thanks!

    hi cny1491,
    Welcome to the Lenovo Forums.
Can you try to turn off the computer and press the OneKey Recovery Button. When done, the machine will turn on and will give you a menu. On the list of options, select System Recovery to restore the system to its factory state (note that all data will be wiped on the OS partition).
If the machine freezes during the recovery process then I recommend you contact lenovo and report the issue as there's definitely a malfunctioning component inside (possibly the HDD).

  • In Firefox 4.0 with a Server with a self signed certificate using IPv6 I can not add a "Security Exception" for this certificate.

In Firefox 4.0 I have a server ... it contains a self signed certificate. Using IPv6 I can not add a "Security Exception" for this certificate.
    1. I log onto the server (using IPv6). I get the "Untrusted connection page" saying "This connection is Untrusted"
    2. I click on "Add Exception.." under the "I understand the Risks" section.
    3. The "Add Security Exception" dialog comes up. soon after the dialog comes up I get an additional "Alert" dialog saying
An exception occured during connection to xxxxxxxxx.
Peer's certificate issuer has been marked as not trusted by the User.
    (Error code sec_error_untrusted_issuer).
Please note that this works in Firefox 3.6.16 (in IPv4 and IPv6). It also works in Firefox 4.0 in IPv4 only IPv6 has an issue. What's wrong?

Exactly the same problem, except I'm using FF v6 for Windows, not FF v4 as for the lead post. This is for a self-cert which IS trusted, although the error message says it isn't.

  • When installing Server 2008 Datacenter from disc, I get the error message "Windows could not parse or process the unattent answer file for pass [specialize].

This is a clean install from s disc onto a 3TB GPT drive. This is for testing. I'm not concerned with finding a more practical solution for this installation.
There is no image or answer file involved. But at the "Completing Installation" phase, I receive this error message about an answer file.
Has anyone else expecrienced this problem? The only results I find here are regarding actual imaging with answer files.
    EDIT: [Redacted]
EDIT 2: Since this now happens with every single installation of Server 2008 on this system, I feel the need to keep this open and elaborate on my situation.
I originally installed Server 2008 on the 2TB partition of this 3TB drive. The partition type was MBR. I reinstalled it (there was a false alarm for malicious software) since it was a fresh install without updates or anything else installed. And for the
    second time, it installed fine.
I decided to make the most of my 3TB drive and try GPT partitioning. So I went into the command prompt > diskpart > ran "clean" on the disk, then "convert GPT"
That is when I tried another install of Server 2008 and received this error message about an answer file.
I decided to convert it back to MBR and get on with what I wanted to test in the first place. So I went into Diskpart again, ran "clean", rand "convert MBR" and started the install. But this resulted in the same error message about an
    answer file.
I went back to Diskpart, "clean"ed the disk, ran "convert dynamic" to make sure it was dynamic, then tried the install again, with the same result.
Now, I've tried installing on the disk as GPT, MBR basic and MBR dynamic. I've tried a different installation disc, as well. I got the same result. At this point, I'm going to switch hard drives, but I'm still open to input. Thanks for reading!

    Hi,
As you swapped the hard disk, whether the same issue occurs again if you redo the same steps?
I asked "OEM or retail" because of this known issue:
"Windows could not parse or process the unattend answer file for pass [specialize]" error message when you perform an in-place upgrade in Windows 7 or in Windows Server 2008 R2
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2425962
An answer file may already contain in the disc which causes the issue.
If issue still exists you can click Shift + F10 during the installation process to see the log. Check if the installation error for detailed information.
