Same apple id contact issue

i dont check these updates often. multiple users on same apple id having trouble with contact merger. i have the answer for my set up. 2 users one apple ID ....on a macbook, iphone 4s(2 cells), and 1 ipad. have the 2 different users set up as 2 contacts set ups on address book. open address book on mac. then open contacts on iphone/ipad. have macbook(with prevent auto sync checked off before connection to mac book:its in itunes settings)connect device then open itunes . let device set up.it will not sync.. be sure to have ,in info section, sync contacts with(selected groups whatever user it is at time.. and also add contacts created outside of groups on this "device" to same contact group).. sync device one time. watch what is posted as sync occurs on top of itunes page...if u do not see (i never do) "contact sync" ,let process finish... then sync again. u should see contact sync at this time. now u should see(as i do) contacts sync.. for the 1 user should be merged from mac to device and device to the mac for only the 1 user only. no smash up of contacts between 2 users. i do not have icloud for the 2 users as this will mash the contacts as well. hope this helps someone

This may be caused by a corrupt existing backup that needs to be deleted, or by data on your device that is causing the backup to fail.  To troubleshoot these, try deleting your last iCloud backup (if you have one) by going to Settings>iCloud>Storage>Manage Storage, tap your device under Backups, then tap Delete Backup and choose Turn Off & Delete at the prompt.  Then go to Settings>iCloud>Backup and turn iCloud Backup back on and try backing up again.
If it still won't back up, you may have an app or something in your camera roll that is causing the backup to fail.  To locate which one, go to Settings>iCloud>Storage>Manage Storage, tap the name of your device under Backups, under Backup Options tap Show All Apps, then turn them all to Off (including camera roll) and try backing up again.  If the backup is successful, then the camera roll and/or one of your apps is causing the backup to fail and you'll have to located by process of elimination. Turn the camera roll On and try backing up again.  If it succeeds, turn some of your apps to On and try backing up again.  If it succeeds again, turn some more apps to On then try again; repeat this process until it fails.  Eventually you'll be able to locate the problem app and exclude it from your backup.

  • What happens on iCloud (ex. contacts) when multiple family members use the same Apple ID?

What happens on iCloud when multiple family members use the same Apple ID?  For example if we all choose to use iCloud for contacts, are they all merged together?  We use the same Apple ID so we can use find my iPhone to keep track of the whole family.

Of course if you are both connected to the same iCloud account you have the same contacts - what did you expect?. The contacts live on the server and are read from there by the devices; so as you've both managed to sync your contacts up to iCloud they are now inextricably mixed. You can only delete your contacts by deleting individual ones, and doing that will delete them from your phone as well.
You can only unravel this by
    1. In the iCloud contacts page at http://icloud.com, select all the contacts, click on the cogwheel icon at bottom left and choose 'Export vCard'.
    2. Sign out of System Preferences>iCloud
    3. Create a new Apple ID and open a new iCloud account with it for your own use.
    4. Import the vCard back into the iCloud contacts page.
    5. Go to http://icloud.com and sign in with the original ID. This is now his ID. Work through the contacts individually deleting the ones you don't want him to have. When done sign out and advise him to change his password.
    6. Go to the new iCloud account and delete his contacts individually.
Of course if you have also been syncing calendars and using the same email address there are problems with doing this.

  • HT4910 Have two phones with same apple id as I got one for my hubbie .he tried to back up his numbers in I cloud . Our contacts have now merged and neither can delete from our phone without it coming off the other . Any ideas how we can stop this

Have two iPhones with the same id as I got hubbie one in week and when I got it they asked for email address so I gave the one we use, so when my husband started phone up he just put my password in. When he tried to back his numbers on iCloud they all appeared on my phone and now I can't delete his numbers without them deleting on his phone as well . Any help would be appreciated.

You'll have to migrate one of the phones to a different account, then delete the other person's data from each account (you can continue to share the same Apple ID for purchasing from the iTunes and app stores).
Decide which iPhone will be keeping the current iCloud account.  On the one that will be changing accounts, if you have any photos in photo stream that are not in your camera roll or backed up somewhere else save these to your camera roll by opening the photo stream album in the thumbnail view, tapping Edit, then tap all the photos you want to save, tap Share and tap Save to Camera Roll.
Once this is done, go to Settings>iCloud, scroll to the bottom and tap Delete Account.  (This will only delete the account from this phone, not from iCloud.  The phone that will be keeping the account will not be effected by this.)  When prompted about what to do with the iCloud data, be sure to select Keep On My iPhone.  Next, set up a new iCloud account using a different Apple ID (if you don't have one, tap Get a Free Apple ID at the bottom).  Then turn iCloud data syncing for contacts, etc. back to On, and when prompted about merging with iCloud, choose Merge.  This will upload the data to the new account.
Finally, go to icloud.com on your computer and sign into each iCloud account separately and manually delete the data you don't from each account.

  • Help! I have a new iPhone 5s. My husband just lost his 4s, so I want to give him mine. Want to use same Apple ID so we both have access to itunes/apps purchases. Want to separate contacts, messages, mail, etc. I cannot change iCloud address.

Help! I have a new iPhone 5s. My husband just lost his 4s, so I want to give him my 4s. We want to use same Apple ID so we both have access to itunes/apps purchases. Want to separate contacts, messages, mail, etc. I cannot change iCloud address on 4s iPhone. Also, when I tried to change iMessage I got a message that if I deleted my id (which seemed to be the only way to get my husband's I'd there), I would not be able to receive iMessages on any device.
Would someone kindly tell me how to set up th 4s for my husband so that we can keep our info separate? It would be most appreciated! Thanks!!

    Hey Fagen!
You will want to see the following article for guidance on achieving the result you wish to achieve:
What to do before selling or giving away your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht5661
I would just follow the instructions from this article to give your unused 4s to your spouse. Since you have already started using your 5s, you will still be receiving iMessages on that phone and will have no need to receive them on a device that has been replaced. Thanks for coming to the Apple Support Communities!
    Cheers,

  • Same Apple ID forTwo iPhones but Sync Different Google Contacts?

We have two iPhones (4s and 3gs).  We want to be able to use the same Apple ID for both phones (so that we can share applications on both) but we want to sync to different contacts.  We want to sync one of the phones to Outlook and the other phone to Google Contacts.  Is this possible?  When we try to change to Google Contacts via the iTunes sync screen for that phone, it shows the warning: "Switching the sync provider will also affect iCloud and any other iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad that syncs with this user account.  Are you sure you want to switch the sync provider?"
Is there a way to make this work?  Thanks.

If you are asking can you have an Apple ID and an iCloud account then the answer is, yes. With iCloud it will  sync all your devices and computers. I'm not going to get into discussing rumours as that's frowned upon. Here's what Apple has published about iCloud Drive: https://www.apple.com/ca/ios/ios8/icloud-drive/

  • Family account for contacts but with same apple ID - iCloud use

Hi, I am writing to ask what the best way to setup a multiple contacts account using the same apple ID for iCloud.  My wife and I both use the same apple ID for our iPhones as well as our iMac and iPad.  I would like to be able to have my contacts on my iPhone and iPad and have my wife's contacts on her iPhone (and obviously having both our contacts on our iMac for backup and reference).  I have read some forums suggesting creating a "family" apple ID accout for some iCloud stuff where I could have my contacts linked to and then having our existing apple ID for her to use.  We share calenders, downloaded apps/purchases and some Documents and Data (Money app) - all of which I would like to keep the way I have described.  I would just like to be able to have my contacts and her contacts separate for iCloud purposes.  I read something about the primary and second account settings in the Mail/Contacts/Calenders but it isn't very clear.  I seem to
I have yet to venture creating such another apple ID account as I don't really know how to go about doing it.
    Thanking you in advance,

Much easier to manage if you each have your own AppleIDs and computer logins.
You can easily share contacts and calendars through iCloud while still keeping them separate.
    You keep this AppleID.
She creates a new one and adds it on her iPhone in Setttings > Mail, Contacts & Calendars
These are your primary iCloud accounts
Now each of you go to Setttings > Mail, Contacts & Calendars and add an iCloud account.
Add the other's account (as a secondary iCloud account). You can select to use Mail, Contacts, Calendars, Reminders, Bookmarks, Notes, Find My iPhone.
I have my daughter's iCloud account this way and I use Contacts, Calendars, Reminders. This way I can view or update her info from my iPhone/computer.

  • Two devices same Apple ID, how to stop syncing contacts

We have my son's phone using the same apple ID as my wife to track his purchases.  Under iOS 6 their contacts were separate.
My son updated both their phones to iOS 7 and now thier contacts seem to be mirrored.  When he deletes a contact, it deletes from my wifes phone as well.
Will a separate apple id for the icloud stop this from happening?

Yes a separate Apple ID will stop this. But that new Apple ID will also be linked to the iTunes and App Stores. You can manually turn off all the iCloud back up options as another option.

  • How can I use the same apple id on 2 iphones yet have the owner contact different?

My husband and I both share apps, contacts, calendars, etc and use same apple id...We both own iPhone 5's. When we each set up our iphones, on setting in siri setting and mail, contacts, calendars setting we each put contact for our info... Well the problem is that if I change mine to my info it changes it to his, and same if he changes it to his name on his iphone it changes 'my info' on my iPhone's setting.... so when using siri or mail... we cant identify each phone.... So can we still use same apple id and have separate "my info" settings.....

Short term solution, do this on both devices
Settings > iCloud > Shut off anything you don't want shared
    Long term solution (actual solution)
You need seperate Apple IDs for iCloud. iTunes and iCloud are not the same.
    Create a new Apple ID > https://appleid.apple.com/cgi-bin/WebObjects/MyAppleId.woa/
On one of the devices go Settings > iCloud > Delete Account > Sign in with the new Apple ID
This will seperate your Contacts, Calendars, Messages etc.
You both can continue to use the same Apple ID for iTunes and share apps and music

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Deleting an account from a device will not delete the information from the account, if that is what you are asking.

  • I have an iPhone 4 that i was trying to fix and now it will not turn on at all is there anyway that i can access all my pictures and contacts from my new phone or pc? It is also on the same apple id, but i dont know if that would help with anything.

I have an iPhone 4 thats i was trying to fix and now it will not turn on at all is there anyway that i can access my pictures and contacts from my new phone or pc? Aslo the are both on the same apple id but i dont know if that would help or not.

Contacts are designed to be synced to a supported application on the computer or a cloud service.
Pictures taken with the device are designed to regularly be copied off the device to a computer as would be done with any digital camera.
If you have failed to use the device as designed it may be too late to recovery anything.
Is the device regularly backed up to a computer via iTunes?  If so, the most recent backup (when restored to a replacement iOS device) should contain all contacts and pictures as of when the backup was created.

  • HT2204 I have 3 iphones and all use the same apple ID,how do I change this so each phone has its own id,do i restore the phones to factory settings first??as im having problems with contacts being added to and deleted from each phone.

I have 3 Iphone 4S and all have the same apple ID which is causing problems as far as contacts are concerned, when i sync 1 of the phones to my comp the contacts appear on all the phones. How do i create a new ID for each of the phones do I have to reset the phones to factory settings first, any help would be appreciated.:)

    Hello marie196,
Thanks for the question, and welcome to Apple Support Communities.
You do not necessarily need to restore the device to factory settings, but rather sign out of the four services that utilize your Apple ID: iCloud, iMessage, FaceTime, and iTunes & App Stores. Once signed out, you can sign in with a new Apple ID. For more information, see the following article:
Using your Apple ID for Apple services

Additional Information: You may encounter an error regarding a 90-day limit. For information on this, see the following article:

  • My husband and I both have iphones and share the same apple id. Everything was working fine until I synced his phone which lost all his contacts and pictures and gave him my info. I then used verizon's contact retreival app and got his contacts back

My husband and I both have iphones and everything was ok until I synced his phone and lost all his contacts and pixs. I downloaded verizon's contact retreival app and got his contacts back but now his contacts keep overwriting mine. I can sync my phone and get my contacts back but within a few hours, his show up again. We use the same apple id for purchases. What can I do?

Are you sharing the same iCloud account (in Settings>iCloud)?  And do you both have Contacts turned to On in Settings>iCloud?

  • Messages to contact also appearing on my wife's Iphone? We share the same Apple ID

Hi - My wife and I share the same Apple ID to sync our iPhone. Ever since I downloaded Messages Beta my wife gets my conversations. What's also happening is when I text her from my iPhone's iMessage, It comes across to her phone as 2 texts. when I text her phone and she texts mine it shows our conversations as if she was replying to herself. All the texts are blue and to the right side of the screen.
I went ahead and uninstalled Messages Bata to see if that fixed my issue. It did not. I got the same exact result, and now when I send it shows a red ! implying it did not send but it really did send. I have also tried to reinstall Messages Beta and use a different Apple ID to send from my Mac but did not fix the issue.
    Any Ideas?
    Thanks

    "We share the same ID."
There's your problem. If you/she use a different email address in Settings > Messages > Receive At (on the iPhone), then you should stop receiving each other's texts.
If you want to change the email on the Mac (if you reinstall Messages Beta), open Messages, then click on Messages on go to Preferences.
Then click on the Accounts tab, and look under the text "You can be reached for messages at:"

Hi I updated my iPhone 4 and my Mum's iPhone 4 to software version 5.0. They both use the same apple id and they are both backed up to iCloud. Once I updated my mum's phone i noticed that her contacts are now on my phone i deleted some of them but then she noticed that they had been deleted off her phone to. Has anyone got any ideas please.

Your password for logging into iCloud cant be different than your password for your Apple ID if you use that Apple ID to log into iCloud, it sounds as though you are using 2 accounts.
