SapConsole on VMWARE and other

Hi,
three questions about Sapconsole:
1) Someone knows is SapConsole is supported on VMWARE and someone is using it on this platform ?
2) Someone is using the J2EE as WebServer ? Could you tell me why did you choose J2EE instead of IIS ?
3) Who is using SapConsole in High-Availability configuration ?
Are you using the connection via telnet or Web based ?
How did you configure it , as there is no indication at all on the Sap documenation for this scenario ?
regards and thansk in advance

We had done this for one of our landscapes.  It seemed to be working very well for a couple of years until we implemented a larger unit with multiple warehouses and a much larger number of users.  However, the total number of RF barcode scanners was still lower than 100 which probably represents a small implementation for most sites.  We started receiving some very significant processing issues.  Most of these were traced back to a poorly configured wireless network setup, but not all.
Through some extensive testing we were able to make SAP Console hang even with a single user logged on directly via a Windows telnet session.  Here's a snippet from the OSS Message response.
<i>
SAPConsole i.e sapcnsl.exe is not designed to run in a multi-processor
enviornment.
The code of sapcnsl.exe does not take care conditions into account
when running in a multi-processor system.
The problem will persist.
If you run sapcnsl.exe in an uni-processor system the problem will not
happen.
Also, in a multi-processor system the occurence of the hang will be
very vague, there is no clear cut time when the problem happens.
Run sapcnsl.exe in an uni-processor system the problem will not
happen.</i>
Our response was to install this on multiple, load-balanced physical systems with a single CPU.  It's been running fine ever since.  We could probably move back to the VMWare solution since the wireless network situation has been addressed, but based on the significant end-user distrust [almost a revolt] it did not seem prudent.

Has anyone sucessfully deployed SAPConsole on VMWARE?
Any concerns for using this strategy?

  • Installed helpdesk to sles11sp1 vmware and won't startup

    Hi,
I installed the service desk to sles11sp1 for vmware and it won't startup.
I am also running zenworks configuration mgmt 11 RC3 on the same server.
    I installed with:
    java -install install.jar -console
When prompted for a port I took the default 8700. It gave me a null and then prompted for a 1 to continue. So I selected 1 and continued.
    If I http://ip:8700 I get nothing.
    If I netstat -a -n|grep 8700 I get nothing.
What do I need to do to get this to work? Also I thought I could get this service desk integrated with zenworks configuration management?

  • WRT1900ac: Defects, Issues and Other

This is follow up on the issues, I had with WRT1900ac, in case others stumble over them as well.
    Setup:
    +-----+----(R) Internet - via Cable-modem 30Mb/5Mb
    |Fire |----(O) Internet Spur – to switch (here for completeness)
    | wall|----(G) Protected wired network – to switch

+-----+----(I) Internet Port – connected to FW(G) via switch
    |WRT  |----(S) Switch 10/100/1000 ports – connected to FW(B)
    | 1900|----(2) 2.4GHz wireless
    +-----+----(5) 5.0Ghz wireless

    |Desk |      \- Vnet0 for vmware Vms
    | Top |----(E) Ethernet – connected to RPi(G) via switch
    +-----+      \- Vnet2 for vmware VMs
Other wireless devices set to use WRT(2)
    4 phones
    3 tablets
    3 media players
    4 desktops/laptop/netbooks
DHCP Servers and the subnets they control:
    FW(G)  x.x.13.0/24
    FW(B)  x.x.23.0/24
    RPi(G)  x.x.0.0/24
    Tests:
    1) Disconnecting FW(B) from WRT(S) and WRT1900ac is DHCP server.  All traffic is then passed through WRT(I) to FW(G) and finally to Internet.  Gateway via DHCP is point to WRT(S,2,5)
    2) FW(B) us connected to WRT(S) and WRT1900ac DHCP server is turned off.  All traffic is then passed thought FW(B) and finally to Internet.  Gateway via DHCP is pointing to FW(B)
    Defects:
    1) Cannot connect between wireless channels even though they are on the same subnet.  A device connected to WRT(5) cannot ping nor connect to service on WRT(2).  This prevents a device on WRT(5) form using a printer on WRT(2).  Similarity, a media device on WRT(5) cannot access a media server on WRT(2).
    WRT (S) (2) (5)
    (S)  OK  OK  OK
    (2)  OK  OK  __
    (5)  OK  __  OK
Workaround is using two wireless routers.  One handling 2.4 traffic and the other 5.0 traffic, internet connect routers together via a switch port.
    2) Connectivity → Local network → Router Details is not editing IP address telling you are duplicating another address on the subnet.  Instead it acts like it made the change you asked, then changes it to a random IP address in 10.0.0.0/24 network.  If WRT1900ac is the DHCP server, then this change is not too bad, since it changes the DHCP Ips also to this new subnet and DNS server in the WRT1900ac hands out the correct new information.  You are left thinking all is OK, but it is not what you set out to do.
If you are changing this IP and Turning off DHCP server same time (they are on the same panel), then the action will basically leave you with an unreachable WRT1900ac.  It will forward traffic between wired and wireless, but you are unable to connect to it to make any changes. From a user veiw, the WRT1900ac “console” is gone.  You have to do a hard factory reset to gain access again.
    Work around be very careful.
Suggested solution would be for the WRT1900ac to valid the address the user has requested to change to.  Like DHCP server validates the address there is with-in the subnet of WRT1900ac own IP.
Further since this function of checking and change IP is part of base system, if the IP is changed, then the DHCP server should be corrected and re-enabled as well.  This would allow the user regain access to the WRT1900ac and correct the error with a full factory reset.
Lastly an error panel should display once the user signs into the WRT1900ac, telling what the router did to make it work again.  Further assisting the user is making correct entries.
    3) WRT1900ac (via looking at Network Map) incorrectly identifies if a device is connected via wired or wireless, leading to bad return routes.
In Test1, when WRT1900ac was controlling the DHCP. When a vm was started on the Desktop use Vnet0 that bridged network via WRT(2), the VM would get an IP and would show up on the Network Map.  But the connection Icon shows up as wired and not via 2.4 wireless.  After a few moments (less than min) all tested (one at time, Linux, BSD, and WindowsXP) lost the connection though Network Map showed them as if the MAC manufacturer ID (the first three hex pairs) were used to determine the route in WRT1900ac.  When I switched the from Vnet0 to Vnet2 (private network with Rpi acting as the DHCP server and wireless bridge) all got connections and were able to work correctly (as expected).
In Test2, did not have an issue with this vm bridge function.  Though Network Map does not display hosts.  Yes, I turned on all View Device and Connection Types.
There was one strange thing did happen though, when WindowsXP was connecting, Network Map changed the Linux Desktop Host Name to WindowsXP name as all capitals.  The WindowsXP host did still appear all lowercase with an icon wired.  WindowsXP worked longer than the others, as if this “cross wiring” help WRT1900ac understand the route better.
    4) When force to do factory reset, WRT1900ac does reset the hardware password to that on the router, instead assigns a random password.  It does for default correctly for wireless WPA2.  By not defaulting back to to the known hardware password, the user is forced to go through the simplified configuration including connecting WRT(I) to an Internet connection.
    Issues:
    1) Connectivity → Local Network once you click on this tab, you cannot click on any of the other tabs without getting “Save changes” panel.  The choice there are Cancel, Yes and No.  Only Cancel works.  Then you have to Cancel from prior to page to actually get out.
    2) Network Map failing to correctly identify devices.  Showing devices with incorrect hostnames or descriptions.  Examples:
    a) Win8.1pro on wireless has an icon of printer.
    b) Linux box with vm of WindowsXP and Plex Web Server loaded, is showing with the XP machine host name and Manufacturer of Plex
    c) iPad showing up a general network device, where an iPhone shows up as phone.  The both have the same release of iOS.
    d) Windows phones and display as network with a host name of “Network Device”.
    e) Epson wireless printers, only 1 out of 3 display with host name.
    f) “Roku Streaming Player” is the same name of each Roku on the network, not the one that displays on iPhone or wireless or on the player itself.
    Suggested solutions include:
    a) Try using SMTP to get device information.
    b) Looking up the device name via DNS then DHCP to show what other equipment calls it.
    c) Showing the IP address for a host name instead of a nondescript “Network Device”
    Other:
    1) Only a single MAC address.  WRT1900ac uses a single MAC address.  This address is used for both internal [WRT(S,2,5)] and external [WRT(I)].  This maybe OK under connecting the WRT1900ac directly to Internet, but causes routing issues when both are connected to same internal hardware, since the ARP will have to routes to same “equipment”.  This found when determining why WRT190ac was changing its IP address from assigned.
Workaround is to go to Connectivity → Internet Settings → MAC Address Clone and enable it and makeup a MAC address for WRT1900ac.  I used added 1 to my WRT1900ac MAC.
    2) Simplified setup does not allow setting 5.0GHz CCSID.  It will copy 2.4GHz ot add _5GHz on to it, but not to name it, this thrid option would be a great help.
    3) Connectivity → Local Network → DHCP Server setup allows for 3 DNS, bBut this list is not sent to cleints.  Instead DHCP server sends the IP of WRT1900ac.  This is by design, since Linksys wants the “linksyssmartwifi.com” to resolve to 192.168.1.1, or what you set as WRT1900ac to under Router Details on the same page.
It would be better if those fields where moved from DHCP Setup, to at less the otherside of the panel so the user does not assume that these DNS will be informed to clients.
    4) External Storage not only allows access to mounted usb drive, but access to /sda including subdirectories of .tmp and cache, which in turn gives access to client.data, db.info, tsbyebye, twonky.log, twonymedia-config.html and twonkymeida-locations-6.db.
    5) There is no effective method to block or tuen off the WRT1900ac from talking to Linksys Command and Control (for my router it was 50.18.198.232 port 5222), on the Internet except disconnecting WRT(I) wire.  Even if blocked in the firewall, the WRT1900ac keeps pounding the firewall, to get access to the Internet, at rate up to 1Mbps.
Yes, this means I have disabled the ability of WRT1900ac from auto-updating, but I also blocked the risk of someone gaining access to my router via Linksys Command and Control.  If you log-in via your email address and password, even if you “connected” directly in to the router (say 192.168.1.1), this traffic sent/validated though Linksys Command and Control (ie: a request leaves your router and sent over the Internet to Linksys CnC, then sent back).  The iPhone app again, goes through Linksys CnC, and with it ALL setting on the router, including passwords, SSID, open ports and device list with IP.  In the end, the router is not under your direct control or ownership, but that of Linksys and their ability to protect your information on their Amazon cloud server.
    Miscellaneous:
    1) The download EULA for the software update for this device is 117 pages long, with a two step acceptance.  The warranty is 135 pages long.
    2) Calling Linksys Support Line custom for WRT1900ac, and after working with the person of almost 1.5hrs, found out the person had no clue what an IP was or how to configure normal static IP.  When requesting the next level for support, “They will call you back in 24 to 72 hours.”  After hanging up and starting again, found the next person equally unable to answer simple direct questions, asked for a manager.  She suggested that this call was really about Quality, then said “they will call you back in 2 to 5 days, after receiving the a support ticket.”
    In closing:
Support for WRT1900ac is either massively back-logged with problems or so understaffed that there is no hope to get anything really fixed.  OpenWRT, at my last view, is still in testing phase and Linksys will not warrant any damage or problems that arise out it use.  So my only real option is return this equipment, since there is no likely fix any of the issues above.  Long term Linksys needs to work on its quality controls, and stop burning up goodwill that brand name had carried.

See if wireless isolation is enabled.
When logged into your WRT1900AC using local access replace the end of the browser URL with:
    /dynamic/advanced-wireless.html
Please remember to Kudo those that help you.

  • Windows 7 and a mac and vmware and internet connection challenges

    Hello
I have a macbook pro that I bought this year. Loaded vmware and win xp on it. Tried to load win 7 on it and it went well. Now it seems I can't connect to the internet. I removed all the preloaded pc security to zero, so I believe this isn't the issue.
Went to the device manager and see that the ethernet has issues. Looks like the drivers are out of date, or not functioning. When I looked on the mac side under utilities, I see its a broadcom 57765-BO ethernet card. I believe I got the correct one from broadcom, but it still didn't work? Its strange because the ethernet and wifi work on the mac side but not on the win 7 side?
Any suggestions for making this work?
    Thanks
    Keith

Are you saying you loaded Windows 7 using Fusion? If so, you should seek answers in the Fusion or Windows forums. Your issue has nothing to do with OSx or Apple. Neither does it have anything to do with Apple software compatibility with Windows.
If you are running Windows in a virtual machine your Apple hardware is not relevant to your issue. Fusion creates virtual hardware. The best way to get support for virtual machines is to go to the virtual machine's web site and look in their support.
If the Windows drivers are out of date, from within Windows update the drivers.

Kaushal.(1) To be blunt you dont have enough RAM for starters. You might get aware with 2GB, you probably really need 3GB or perhaps 2.5GB might just do.
    (2) VMware is a company who produce several products, i assume you are talking about VMware server ... but I may be wrong.
    (3) I assume you are retaining a windows OS on your laptop., but again i could be wrong.
Its not really in my nature to have Oracle Databases on external USB drives, but this stack will probably just work. (Simply because VMmare server will use a simply file for its virtual disk(s) on the USB)
I would also not be surprised if you has issues with the Solaris graphics.
In general I suspect your auggested setup may be at the least troublesome.
What I have said above are opinions, it is not fully researched and I accept corrections.

  • Differences between VMware and Oracle VM

    Hi guys,
I am sure that some people have used VMware and moving to OVM or vice versa.
I am curious to get some feedback resulting from comparing both products -VMware and OVM- (pros and cons).
I am preparing some documentation so I thought of getting some feedback from experts and users.
    Thanks.

The word is (from the Product Manager of Oracle VM) their engineering team is focusing on product release currently.
Avi, I am VERY happy to see you say storage management was a big item in OVM 3.0, as that is likely a good sign for other improvements (that would make the product more competitive with VMWare shops).
My quick "cons" between OVM 2.2.1 and VMware are:
OVM lacks the concept of centralized ISO image management (this could easily be resolved by implementing Server Pool level NFS mounts), in 2.2.x you need to upload (SCP or HTTP) an ISO to a OVM host, and "register" it.
OVM lacks the above mentioned SR selection when you create a VM (and related, a way to migrate VM's or images between SRs (Storage vMotion type feature).
OVM lacks snapshotting entirely. If you want a clone of a VM, you shut it down and suck up the downtime to clone the VM
OVM lacks a straight forward and flexible P2V mechanism, its a block level clone, doesnt inject drivers (SCSI, etc), doesnt give you the ability to resize drives, or any of the standard features in VMwares Converter product.
OVM lacks detailed VM image management, such as a simple method to resize (expand) an VM image. Right now we have to use dd at command line to expand a VM.img file, which is not user friendly.
OVM lacks the granular permission granting that you can do with VMware, for example, if a user account is a User, that user has rights to basically delete a VM if they wanted to. This is problematic as you may want to give a user rights to power cycle a VM, but not delete it!
OVM lacks easy network management (such as NIC teaming/bonding, vlan configuration etc), its a very command line intensive operation, again, very user unfriendly.
OVM lacks easy SAN connectivity management, same as the above, huge command line intensive operation, no tie-in to OVM manager at all.
    Some of the Pros:
OVM is free to use, plus inexpensive support (primary reason we use it!)
OVM is the only VM product that Oracle will openly support its products on.
OVM is very scalable, management many guests on many servers in many server pools, single frame of management at no extra cost.
OVM is based on open source software (Xen), you can tinker in the OS, look at logs, install monitoring tools (zabbix, etc) that you could not do easily in VMware
Theres other issues we've ran across over the last year or so, but them all aside, I prefer it over VMware, but I am also a very seasoned Linux guy, I have my doubts that if you took a Windows sysadmin and asked them to setup a Oracle VM Cluster, it probably wouldn't fly.
I am not bias, I've built and managed equal sized environments in both VMware and OVM, so my above mentioned PROS and CONS are purely based on usage of the products.

  • Running VMWare and want Protection

A little help here for a Mac "newbie": I just downloaded XP (SP2) using VMware. Now I'm a bit concerned about protecting my laptop from all the "hazards" of hacking--which is why I made the switch in the first place. Can anyone recommend a good virus protection for a computer running both systems? Much appreciated!

Speaking of "hacking" downloading Windows XP is illegal.
When running Windows even in VM Fusion you will need the same malware protection as you would if you were running a Windows computer.
OS X requires no such protection at the moment. See,
Do You Need Anti-Virus Protection for Your Mac?
According to Rich Mogull's article, Should Mac Users Run Antivirus Software?,
"The reality is that today the Mac platform is relatively safe. There are hundreds of thousands of viruses and other malicious software programs floating around for Windows, but less than 200 are known to target the Mac, and many of those are aimed at versions of the Mac OS prior to Mac OS X (and thus have no effect on a modern Mac).
It's not that Mac OS X is inherently more secure against viruses than current versions of Windows (although it was clearly more secure than Windows prior to XP SP2); the numerous vulnerabilities reported and patched in recent years are just as exploitable as their Windows equivalents. But most security experts agree that malicious software these days is driven by financial incentives, and it's far more profitable to target the most dominant platform."
Mr. Mogull is a computer security expert. I recommend reading the entire article as it is quite informative.

  • VMware and Siebel in Production – We have a first customer!

    Hi All,
Wanted to pass this along since it may be a first. When we checked just over a year ago neither Siebel nor VMware could produce a single Siebel customer running VMware in production. We knew of a few VMware web servers in production and a few VMware Dev/Test installations but not any full VMware enterprises.
When this customer decided to go full VMware in production about a year ago as part of their Siebel 8.0 upgrade we were a little concerned since we knew they were going to be one of the very first.
I am happy to report that after two months of live production usage with 14 servers in the enterprise everything worked out very well! All 14 server are VMware and even Avaya CTI is VMware.
We know of one customer who recently decided against VMware in production since they were a little scared. I wanted to pass along the word that it worked great for our customer.
Did anyone else beat us to production with VMware? Just wondering if this is a first.
    Take care,

  • Convert smart quotes and other high ascii characters to HTML

I'd like to set up Dreamweaver CS4 Mac to automatically convert smart quotes and other high ASCII characters (m-dashes, accent marks, etc.) pasted from MS Word into HTML code. Dreamweaver 8 used to do this by default, but I can't find a way to set up a similar auto-conversion in CS 4.  Is this possible?  If not, it really should be a preference option. I code a lot of HTML emails and it is very time consuming to convert every curly quote and dash.
    Thanks,
    Robert
    Digital Arts

I too am having a related problem with Dreamweaver CS5 (running under Windows XP), having just upgraded from CS4 (which works fine for me) this week.
In my case, I like to convert to typographic quotes etc. in my text editor, where I can use macros I've written to speed the conversion process. So my preferred method is to key in typographic letters & symbols by hand (using ALT + ASCII key codes typed in on the numeric keypad) in my text editor, and then I copy and paste my *plain* ASCII text (no formatting other than line feeds & carriage returns) into DW's DESIGN view. DW displays my high-ASCII characters just fine in DESIGN view, and writes the proper HTML code for the character into the source code (which is where I mostly work in DW).
I've been doing it this way for years (first with GoLive, and then with DW CS4) and never encountered any problems until this week, when I upgraded to DW CS5.
But the problem I'm having may be somewhat different than what others have complained of here.
In my case, some high-ASCII (above 128) characters convert to HTML just fine, while others do not.
E.g., en and em dashes in my cut-and-paste text show as such in DESIGN mode, and the right entries
        &ndash;
        &mdash;
turn up in the source code. Same is true for the ampersand
        &amp;
    and the copyright symbol
        &copy;
and for such foreign letters as the e with acute accent (ALT+0233)
        &eacute;
What does NOT display or code correctly are the typographic quotes. E.g., when I paste in (or special paste; it doesn't seem to make any difference which I use for this) text with typographic double quotes (ALT+0147 for open quote mark and ALT+0148 for close quote mark), which should appear in source code as
        &ldquo;[...]&rdquo;
DW strips out the ASCII encoding, displaying the inch marks in DESIGN mode, and putting this
        &quot;[...]&quot;
    in my source code.
The typographic apostrophe (ALT+0146) is treated differently still. The text I copy & paste into DW should appear as
        [...]&rsquo;[...]
in the source code, but instead I get the foot mark (both in DESIGN and CODE views):
I've tried adjusting the various DW settings for "encoding"
        MODIFY > PAGE PROPERTIES > TITLE/ENCODING > Encoding:
    and for fonts
        EDIT > PREFERENCES > FONTS
but switching from "Unicode (UTF-8)" to "Western European" hasn't solved the problem (probably because in my case many of the higher ASCII characters convert just fine). So I don't think it's the encoding scheme I use that's the problem.
Whatever the problem is, it's caused me enough headaches and time lost troubleshooting that I'm planning to revert to CS4 as soon as I post this.

  • Free Goods Import Process with Customs, Freight, and Other Taxes.

    hi,
I have to import free goods but have to pay for Customs, Freight, and other Taxes.
    1. If I tick Free Goods Indicator in PO Line Item, Condition Tab at line item disappears. It will not to calculate other conditions at Header level also. - So I cant execute this option.
    2. If i take price of material and insert Condition Type: R001:Discount/Quantity with material price/qty, then it gives Error Message - "Price Must be greater than 0".
So, Is there any way through which I can procure Free Goods and can maintain conditions for Customs, Freight, and other Taxes in Purchase Order.
Please help me in this regard.
    - Jignesh

    Hi,
    1) Create an import PO in ME21N with material price and all custom duty conditions (as you normally create). no need to put free tick indicator.
    2) Process MIRO for goods and delivery costs simultaneously.
    3) Maintain zero amount for goods item and actual values for the duties (Ensure selection of goods item including delivery cost items)
    4) Save the LIV document
    5) Check PO item history got updated with IR-L and DCIn. (IR-L will updated with zero amount)
    6) Do  MIGO w.r.t. IR document number.
    7) GR FI document will get updated with the non-set off duty values only.

  • Failed Hardware Scan and other issues E440

    Hi all,
This is probably more rant than anything, but I wanted to give a heads up to others too.
I have a ThinkPad E440 that is a year old. From the very first time I turned it on, there have been issues. The first hardware scan (via Lenovo Solution Center - LSC) showed a warning for the Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 7260 Local Connection Test. There were also tons of System Events that always show up in the "Configuration History" part of the LSC. You can look at the calendar and tell exactly which days I used the computer because there will be System Events generated each day. Things like app crashes and failed drivers.
In July 2014, I got the first warning for the 16 GB SSD - the SMART Short Self-Test. By February this year it showed as failed for each hardware scan (these were initially set up to run monthly).
Also the whole time I've had it the touch screen would just stop working at some point and I would have to reboot to get it working again.
I finally called Lenovo on March 30th, before my warranty expired. When I called that time, I didn't realize the hard drive failure was the SSD. So they sent me a new 500 GB drive. I also added the other things into the case when I talked to them. For the wireless issue they suggested making sure the driver was up to date. I did this and let them know when I called back that it was up to date and still having the warning. So I called them to tell them to tell them about the wireless and also that I realized it was the SSD having the failure, not the main drive. The first case had already been closed even though none of the other items were addressed.
So they opened another case (this is #2). They said to mail them the laptop since the wireless issue would probably be on the board and it wasn't something I could fix myself. They sent a box with a prepaid overnight shipping label. I was very sick for a few days so I sent it back to them on April 10th (a Friday). Via UPS I saw it was delivered on Saturday. Work was performed on it Monday, April 13th and sent back to me that very day. I received it on April 14th. This part of the service has been excellent - very fast response.
Being in IT, I included a letter with the laptop that outlined the issues that should have been in the case. I also printed the hardware scans and what the system events looked like.
When I got the laptop back, the sheet inside said they had replaced the Speaker because of Distorted Sound. This was not even on the list even though I had noticed it. I didn't even power up the laptop before calling them again - yes, I was furious! Plus our power was out...
So this was noon on the 14th. They opened case #3 and sent me ANOTHER BOX so I could send it back.
After our power came back on the 15th, I powered up my laptop. I opened the browser (I have it set to restore the previous session) and there was a sexually explicit video on YouTube. I opened the other browser and there was a different video on YouTube. So this person was watching YouTube instead of fixing my laptop. I looked through both browser histories and there was quite a bit of activity while my laptop was at the repair center... I ran the hardware scan - still failed and a warning for the wireless. They really hadn't done anything.
I also found two pictures of the repair person in the recycle bin...
So I called back. I was LIVID! They opened another case (this is #4). And sent me ANOTHER BOX. I finally learned the other day that once a case is opened, it cannot be edited or added to at all. Instead, they close the other case and open a new one. I guess their turnaround time for closing cases is excellent! I've never seen a system like that - and I've used a lot of them.
I got a really nice, patient fellow on the line. He took all my info (again). I emailed him the pictures, screen captures of the YouTube videos, the letter I had sent - everything. He entered as much into the new case as he could - he talked to one of the supervisors to make sure he did it right. Somehow he flagged it so that the laptop would get more attention (time) at the repair facility. He also opened a separate case (an escalation ticket?) for a supervisor to call me regarding the person's conduct at the repair facility. He said they would call me that day. (It's now the 25th and I've never heard from anyone)
So, he sent me ANOTHER BOX. I've built up quite a stack of them.
Our power was out AGAIN from the 17th through the 19th (don't get me started).
I noticed a hardware scan had now gotten a failure on the main hard drive. So I called them on the 21st to add this to the case before sending the laptop back. The girl said they can't add anything to an existing case or edit it at all once it's opened. She would have to open a new case and SEND ME ANOTHER BOX. I told her to forget it because I was ready to send it in and didn't want to wait for another box. I also asked for a status on that "escalation case" where the supervisor was supposed to call me. In order to do this she, yes, wait for it, had to open ANOTHER CASE!! So they would know I wanted a status. I'm completely dumbfounded.
So I sent it back on the 21st. This time I practically wiped it. I had already removed all my files the last time, but I had left my bookmarks and browser history intact.  I set up a guest logon with admin privileges. I updated my letter and printed off more stuff to include with the box. On one sheet I had only the case number, the serial number and machine type. On another sheet I had "DO NOT SEPARATE THIS PAPERWORK FROM THE LAPTOP" and the case number. I put this sheet on top (The guy on the 15th said my letter and stuff may have gotten separated from the laptop once it was delivered to the repair facility). I used a ton of staples so it would all stay together. I included in my letter the failure on the main hard drive and asked if they could look at it. I wrote about having to open a new case if I wanted to include it.
They received it on the 22nd. A nice gentleman from the repair facility called me that day asking about the password. that. was. written. on the sheet they have you fill out. I told him what happened last time and also mentioned the hard drive failure and asked if he could look into it. He said they would.
I received my laptop back yesterday morning. The sheet that came with it said they had "replaced the following parts to complete the repair of your laptop."
    Part Description                                           Symptom
IMAGE                                                             Replaced due to engineering change
    System board                                                 Network card error
Hard disk drive                                                Network card error
    ECA-WIRELESS                                            <no symptom listed>
There was also a sheet saying they had installed a factory preload of software and I needed to install Lenovo and Windows updates.
When I booted it up, the first thing I noticed, in the lower right corner was:
    Windows 8.1
    SecureBoot isn’t configured correctly
    Build 9600
I ran a hardware scan. Well, I tried. It stopped part way through and said it finished successfully but most of the tasks showed up as cancelled. I tried to run it again - issues - rebooting ensued. It said the LSC wasn’t available and that I should try again or reboot.
Tried several times. Then got what I guess is the new BSOD - kinder, gentler:
Your PC ran into a problem and needs to restart. We're just
collecting some error info, and then we'll restart for you. (xx% complete)
If you'd like to know more, you can search online later for this error: DRIVER_CORRUPTED_EXPOOL
Even though the LSC said my Lenovo files were all up to date, I ran the Update. And first I had to download a new version of Update. Then I downloaded all of the Lenovo updates and installed them (there were quite a few). The BIOS update failed. While I was doing the Lenovo downloads, I got a light blue screen but no text (I was out of the room so I'm not sure what happened). Did CTRL-ALT-DEL and it shows only IE and Task Manager as applications that are running. Could not “Switch to” IE. Hitting window key to go to start didn't do anything. So I had to restart.
By 3pm yesterday there were 34 system events in the configuration history.
I ran the hardware scan again after I updated the Lenovo files, and you guessed it! Failure on the SSD (SMART Short Self-Test) and warning on the wireless. Nothing had changed. Except hardware scan is acting different than it did before I sent in the laptop for repairs. When it finishes, it instantly closes and just shows 100% complete. When I click on "see last results" it shows a screen called
    Log Information,
    Canceled 04/24/2015 n:nn pm
You have not done a hardware test on your computer
And the calendar in LSC only shows the very first hardware scan I did on Friday. Even the hardware scan screen shows the date and time of the last scan. It also shows the error code. In order to see exactly what is failing, I have to sit there and watch it very closely and snap a picture of the screen as soon as the error (or warning) shows up.
When I would try to run Windows update, it would hang up PC Settings. I couldn't even kill it using task manager because it didn't show up as a task. During this, I got a flag saying the firewall wasn't turned on. I tried to turn it on, but clicking on Turn on Windows Firewall didn't do anything. I tried to setup my Microsoft account but that just hung too.
I ended up running Windows Update FOUR TIMES to get all the updates installed. Every time I ran it, it said "Done!" and I would run it again and more would show up. The last time was this morning.
At some point, the error about SecureBoot went away.
Then, I created a bootable BIOS update disk. Following the ReadMe instructions, I went through ThinkPad Setup and verified several values. Of note:
Secure Boot was DISABLED. According to the ReadMe file, this should be ENABLED in Windows 8.1. I enabled it.
Under Startup/Boot, according to the ReadMe that came with the BIOS update, UEFI/Legacy Boot is supposed to be set at UEFI Only for Windows 8.1. Mine was set to "Both". I changed it.
In Startup, OS Optimized Defaults was DISABLED, even though it says right there (and in the BIOS update ReadMe) it should be ENABLED to meet Microsoft Windows 8 Certification Requirement.
After these updates, I flashed the new BIOS.
Then, I ran hardware scan again...
Now I have TWO failures on the SSD: Random Seek Test and SMART Short Self-Test. Great.
In the Event Viewer (that I recently discovered), it says my disk has a bad block. It just says The device, \Device\Harddisk\DR1, has a bad block. I assume this is the SSD...
There are 867 events in the event viewer - Critical, Error, and Warning...
Fifty-two of these are from October 7, 2013 - before my little laptop was a glimmer.
The rest are from when Lenovo had it and yesterday and today.
64 of them are the disk error.
341 are from DeviceSetupManager. 65 of those are from failed driver installs. 69 are for not being able to establish a connection to the windows update service. 64 are from not being able to establish a connection to the Windows Metadata and Internet Services (WMIS).
3 times it's rebooted without cleanly shutting down
60 of them are from Service Control Manager and say The TDKLIB service failed to start due to the following error: The system cannot find the file specified.
One of them says {Registry Hive Recovered} Registry hive (file): '\??\C:\Users\Default\NTUSER.DAT' was corrupted and it has been recovered. Some data might have been lost.
16 are warnings that various processors in Group 0 are being limited by system firmware.
12 say the certificate for local system with thumbprint <bunch of hex numbers> is about to expire or already expired.
108 are warnings for failure to load the driver \Driver\WUDFRd for various devices
    16 are application errors
One is for the computer rebooting from a "bug check"
15 are for name resolutions timing out after none of the configured DNS servers responded.
10 are for SecureBoot being disabled.
    14 for services terminating unexpectedly
15 are for WLAN Extensibility Module has stopped
61 are for applications not being able to be restarted because the application SID does not match Conductor SID
12 are for activation of CLSID timing out waiting for the service wuauserv to stop
So, I'll call them on Monday and open. a. new. case (#5?) - but really 7. And get A NEW BOX.
    I'll keep you updated!

  • After updating to Firefox 7.0.1, menu bar for Google, yahoo, Facebook (message, notification, profile, home) and others site are disabled. How can solve this problem?

after updating to Firefox 7.0.1, menu bar for Google(web ,image, video, map etc),yahoo, Facebook (message, notification, profile, home) and others site are disabled. even I cant log out from different sites cz the log out bar is completely disabled. I tried with Firefox 4;5 and 6, same problem exist . I tried by active all add ons for facebook, same problem exist. If I use internet explorer , I don't find such problem with it.
How can I solve this problem?

Thanks a lot for your swift response. And sorry if it was a bit too hectic to go through my detailed query (which I did because it was misunderstood when I asked previously). As I've mentioned above, I was informed that updating to 5.0.1 would '''require''' me to '''delete''' the current version and then install the new one. And doing so will involve losing all my bookmarks. I guess I should have been more specific and detailed there. By losing, I didn't mean losing them forever. I'm aware that they're secured in some place and deleting and installing the software doesn't harm its existence. What I meant that if I install the new version, I'd have to delete the old one. And after installing the new version, I'd have to transfer them (bookmarks) back from wherever they are. Get it? When it updated from 3.6.9 to 3.6.13, and from 3.6.13 to 3.6.18, I didn't need to follow that process. They were already present on their own.
BTW, I'm having no problems with 3.6.18 but after learning about the existence of version 5.0.1, I'm a bit too eager to lay my hands over it.
Thanks for your help; hope this wasn't extremely long.

  • Why did my index.htm file generate blank? and other weirdness.

Here's the story. Maybe someone can tell me where I made my mistake, or what happened. I'm numbering the steps for convenience in discussing this.
    1) I started a new project, a WebHelp project.
    2) I imported content in Word.
    3) I created an index, glossary, and TOC. I used wizards for some of this.
    4) I created a style sheet and applied it to all the topics.
    5) I added a skin from the gallery.
    6) I generated output.
Then I sent that output to the UI developer on my project. He plugged it in to the web app, and it seemed to work fine. So then:
    7) I opened the project, edited the text, and removed glossary links (because I didn't like how they were working) individually.
    8) I generated a new TOC to match the changed topic structure (minor changes).
    9) I generated another output.
I sent that output to the UI developer and he said it was blank. I opened index.htm and sure enough, it was indeed blank. In fact, it was Zero KB. I also noticed that four other files were blank: whfform.htm, whform.js, whskin_plist.htm, and whtbar.js.
So then I decided to start over. I created a new project, imported just the html topic files from the old project, redid the index (in a  hasty and less thorough manner), decided to bail on the glossary for now, did a TOC and sent that to the developer.
Now the Search pane is totally wonky, showing a list of characters and terms.
So I am getting frustrated. The developer has tried monkeying around with stuff on his end, but it's not working. So he says, why don't you send me a build with everything?
The problem is, I have two broken builds. The first one, which for whatever reason has the blank index.htm file (and other blank files), and the second one, which has no glossary, a messy index, and a screwed up search.
I can't seem to find anyone else having this problem. :-/  Can someone help?
    Thanks so much,
    Tamarleigh

I am having the exact same problem, and I think I've figured out what is happening here. There is an issue when mapping Word styles into RH. The person who setup our Word template included a sidehead with conditional text to hide instructor notes when printing participant training manuals. I removed the conditional text, and everything is working fine. You may want to double check to make sure you don't have conditional text in your Word docs. I've uploaded an image with the code below to show how the conditional text looked when the document was linked and generated.
    Check out the code below:
    <table cellspacing="0">
