Satellite L300D-119 suddenly shuts off for no particular reason

Hi,
just while I'm doing random stuff on my laptop, it just turns off. And it's not like when i press "Shut Off" from the start menu, it just completely shuts down, and the screen turns black.
The PC itself isn't overheated or anything when this occurs.
I'm very worried, does someone know what to do? In that case, thanks very much.

Hello
You must understand that nobody here can say for sure why this happen and if this happen continuously you should contact nearest service provider and ask for help.
Let them check your notebook. The warranty is valid and if something must be done it will be done for free.

  • Satellite P10 - Notebook suddenly shuts off during application

My Satellite P10 has a problem since about 1 month. During several applications (for example games) it shuts off suddenly, without any message or comparable warning.
Is it possible, that it's getting to hot?
It worked without any problem for over a half year!
Could it be, that there's only some dirt in the ventilation? And can I clean it myself without any problems?
If I had a PC I would just open and clean it. But this is my first notebook and I don't have too much experience with the intereor of it.

    HI there,
I normally clean any dust from my A30 on a weekly basis, either by blowing through the outlet vents on the back of the notepad, or by using a domestic vacuium cleaner hose on the fan intake grills oin the bottom of the unit. This avoids having to remove the CPU heat sink which may invalidate your warranty.
I also make sure that the notepad is never placed directly onto carpets or cushions or other soft surfaces since this will either block the air intakes or provide a ready source of dust and debris which will get sucked into the unit.
There is a setting in the Device Manager to enable the cooling to be set for 'maximum performance' or 'Minimum noise'. The effect of the former is to allow the CPU to run at maximum speed (which may involve the fans running at their maximum, whereas the latter will cause the CPU to slow down when it is getting too hot thereby allowing the fans to run much more slowly. I believe the post from 'Heaven' related to a fauly chip on the mother-board which was making the fans run permanently.

  • N73 Shutting off for no apparent reason

    Hi all
I'm new here, I have already checked the site for similar postings and found one in particular that was identical to my subject heading, however, there is no remedy that I can see anywhere on this site, I did try to google it and the only fix I could find was to update the firmware, which I did, this made no difference at all, the phone still shuts off from time to time and for no apparent reason, its not the battery, as it turns on without any issue, the phone was a gift from my company, so no proof of purchase, although have the box, with bar code, IME number and various other numbers, but Nokia say they cannot accept the phone without proof of purchase, so there you go, has anyone found out why this is happening, myself and the other guy who posted cannot be the only people with this particular problem and I'm sure that someone from Nokia will be reading these posts, surely they know about it and have a fix, if so I would very much like to know what it is, thank you.
    Regards
    The Pozz

Without the option of bringing it to you Nokia Care Centre, the only suggestions I can give are as follows:
    1. Make sure your battery contacts are clean and battery is secure.
    2. Reset your phone.
Always remember to backup your phone before performing resets as your data may be lost.
    First try these
First try *#7780# - Restore factory settings - resets all the settings to the default
If that does not work then try *#7370# - Reformat your phone

  • T40 shuts down for no particular reason

Within the past two weeks, my T40 has taken to shutting down somewhat arbitrarily. The fan seems to be working fine and it doesn't appear to be overheating. Often something like running a YouTube video is enough to shut it down.  The only thing that I have upgraded or changed besides the standard monthly Windows upgrades is the Think Vantage Toolbox.  I can't see where that would be a factor.  Battery and power supply check out O.K.
Perhaps it is just showing it's age.  Any idea what would be causing this?
Oh yes,  one other item, when it shuts off, I have to re-sign into my Yahoo homepage, otherwise I just get the generic Yahoo page.

    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Power Management was indeed the answer. Thank you for the suggestion. I didn't spot the change at first, but once I did, it worked.
For some unknown reason, when installing the Lenovo Toolbox, the Power Manager reset the Performance setting from "Adaptive" to "Highest."  I have now created a new power scheme with everything the same except for an "Adaptive" level for the CPU speed. The CPU temmperature is back to running  a more reasonable 44C to 70C and it doesn't shut itself down like before.  Big difference.
My T40 is back to whatever normal is for this seven-year old modified laptop, You have no idea what a relief that is.  I was already shopping new laptops. Now, I'm thinking that this laptop can become my road warrior, and I will look for a Desktop PC with a bigger screen, instead.  That's what I had secretly wanted to do all along.
This forum is outstanding.  It has saved me on more than one occasion.  Thank you so much.

  • My Satellite L500 suddenly shuts off

    Hi all!
I need help!!! my computer suddenly shuts off and I have no idea why!!!
    TOSHIBA L500-22R

Beside the tests mentioned by Macius I guess the notebook shuts OFF due to high internal temperature.
Some background info: the notebook supports some kind of overheating protection. In case the temperature increase to a higher level, this protection prevents the hardware from damage.
I dont know how old your notebook is but I guess you never cleaned the cooling ventilators.
This should be done from time to time because the dust could affect the cooling performance.
Clean the fans and cooling grilles using a compressed air spray. Such air sprays can be ordered online or purchased from common computer dealers.

  • Macbook Pro freezes, shuts off for 10 seconds, and then returns to normal

My 13.3" Macbook Pro has this issue of shutting off for 10 seconds and then turns back on to normal. Usually it happens whenever I wake the laptop with the lid open, whenever I open the lid "too fast" from clam shell sleep, and whenever I reopen the lid after when I realized that I needed to check something else. Every time I start using the Macbook Pro from these situations, everything works fine for about 20 seconds and then suddenly everything freezes and shuts off temporarily. Then after about 10 seconds, everything turns back on again. I do not know why this occurs, but I had this issue the 3rd week I purchased this. Is this a normal thing or is this an issue with possibly the motherboard?

take a look at this topic, maybe will help:

  • After I upgrade maverick my display will suddenly shut off but my sounds is still working. Need help

After I upgrade maverick my display will suddenly shut off but my sounds is still working. Need help on this? Thank you

    Hello rodamitjr,
It sounds like your iMac display will turn off unexpectedly, but you can tell the computer is still on because you hear audio.
I found an article with steps to troubleshoot issues with displays.  This article is for internal and external displays, so you can skip any steps referring to an external display.  I recommend reviewing the full article, but this step specifically stands out to me for the issue you described:
    Reset the system
You can reset the Mac's parameter RAM and SMC.
You can find the full article here:

What you should do next depends on the circumstances. For example:
If you installed the keylogger yourself and then forgot about it, remove it according to the developer's instructions. If you want to keep it, check for an update or refer to the developer for support.
If you're under 18 years old, and the keylogger was installed by a parent or guardian, talk it over within the family.
If you're an adult, and the keylogger was installed on your personal computer without your permission, then the computer may be evidence of a crime or a civil wrong. Consider the legal implications before you do anything. Assume that everything you've done with the computer is known to the party who installed the keylogger.
If the computer was issued to you by a school or employer, then you should check with the IT staff that the keylogger is authorized. Don't use the machine for personal business. If the keylogger interferes with your work, the IT staff will have to solve the problem.
In the event that the computer was tampered with by an unknown party, and you just want to clean it up, see below.
The only way you can be sure that the computer is not compromised is to erase at least the startup volume and restore it to something like the status quo ante. The easiest approach is to recover the entire system from a backup that predates the attack. Obviously, that's only practical if you know when the attack took place, and it was recent, and you have such a backup. You will lose all changes to data, such as email, that were made after the time of the snapshot. Some of those changes can be restored from a later backup.
If you don't know when the attack happened, or if it was too long ago for a complete rollback to be feasible, then you should erase and install OS X. If you don't already have at least two complete, independent backups of all data, then you must make them first. One backup is not enough to be safe.
When you restart after the installation, you'll be prompted to go through the initial setup process for a new computer. That’s when you transfer the data from a backup in Setup Assistant.
Select only users in the Setup Assistant dialog—not Applications, Other files and folders, or Computer & Network Settings. Don't transfer the Guest account, if it was enabled.
Reinstall third-party software from original media or fresh downloads—not from a backup, which may be contaminated.
Unless you were the target of an improbably sophisticated attack, this procedure will leave you with a clean system. If you have reason to think that you were the target of a sophisticated attack, then you need expert help.
That being done, change all Internet passwords and check all financial accounts for unauthorized transactions. Do this  after the system has been secured, not before.

  • G5 suddenly shuts down for no reason

I am all of a sudden having sporadic shut downs, for no apparent reasons, on my Dual 2.7 GHz (1 GB DDR SDRAM) G5. Its just like the power cord is pulled out of the wall.
The computer, monitor and all accesories are powered off two APC battery back-up/power surge units. The equipment is only 9-months old and has not been a problem until the last two weeks.
    Thanks!

Check system.log in your Console application for lines like "Power Management received an overtemp signal. Going to sleep." or "localhost kernel: PowerMac7,3 Thermal Manager: Thermal Runaway Detected: System Will Sleep. You may have a processor(s) overheating and putting the G5 in thermal shutdown.

I was using my iMac earlier today when it suddenly shut off. The only programs I had opened were Safari and iTunes. I put my hands on top of the computer and noticed that it felt especially hot. Could the cause of my iMac shutting off be because it got too hot? Should I be concerned about possible damages that may have occurred? I appreciate your help.
One more thing; my iMac won't go to sleep according to the inactive time that I have specified in the Energy Saver settings. It only goes to sleep when I access the sleep command or push the power button. Otherwise it just stays on. Thanks again.

Thanks for all your replies, guys. I hadn't logged in since Monday so I didn't know that there had been more posts since then. Anyways, to address why there hasn't been a recall or any public recognition of the problem (that I know of), I have a theory: after all the Apple commercials that basically boil down to "Macs are better than PCs because Macs work," how bad would it look that they would have to do a major recall on these new iMacs?
This is actually my first Mac. I was really stoked about it because everyone that I spoke to that had owned Macs never had any complaints. I'm getting a little concerned now. We've spent good money on these machines and apparently for a lot of us they are turning out to be a major headache. If I wanted a computer that performed poorly I would have bought a PC and spent half the money (sorry to all the PC guys out there. I've had some bad experiences with PCs that helped fuel my decision to purchase a Mac).
Anyways, I've had another unexpected shutdown earlier today so I'm going to call Apple again and see what they say. For any of you who are having this problem and are going to call Apple for the first time, your support may go something like this: turn the computer off and turn it on again holding the Command, Option, P and R buttons simultaneously. Then, using the Disk Utility, you will verify the disk. Mine claimed that everything "seemed" to be okay and as of Monday I was to monitor my system and call back if it happened again. I'm going to call them again and I'll let you all know what they say.
Dennis, thanks for the link. I have not read it yet, but I will. I'll keep you all updated. Thanks again and good luck to all of you as you try to get your Mac issues resolved.

    The Basic Troubleshooting Steps are:
Restart..  Reset..  Restore from Backup..  Restore as New...
Try this First... You will Not Lose Any Data...
Turn the Phone Off... ( if it isn’t already )
Press and Hold the Sleep/Wake Button and the Home Button at the Same Time...
Wait for the Apple logo to Appear and then Disappear...
Usually takes about 15 - 20 Seconds... (But can take Longer...)

  • Keyboard lights suddenly shut off

I'm a noob with an early 2011 MBP 13" i7 running Lion and I've noticed that the keyboard backlight has started to suddenly shut off randomly.
It's only happened a couple times and the last time it did I actually could turn it back on by pressing the correct button, but the time before that I had to restart the thing.
Am I crazy or is my mac posessed?

    Hello Dave the Revelator!
Have you checked in the System Preferences > Keyboard > Keyboard "automatically illuminate keyboard in low light"? If yes, it is normal. When the light sensor is receiving bright light, the keyboard lightening is switched off.

  • My iPad shut off for some reason.  The battery was charged.  I couldn't get it to turn back on until I pressed the on button and home at the same time. Why did that happen?

I had trouble upgrading my iPad2 toiOS 5.1.I have had it for about 1 year.  I had never upgraded it.  I tried a few times but I kept getting a message that I would loose everything on my iPad if I did.  I bit the bullet andfigured that I would restore it from the back up on my laptop.  Some of the backup files were corrupted.  I was unable to retore my exchange email or my notes from the noted app.
Today, my iPad shut off for no reason and I couldn't get it to turn on again, even though the battery was 70% charged.  I had to press the on button and home button to get it to come back on.

I'm not sure what problem you are experiancing but it would be well worth contacting apple.
If you have had it for less than one year it should be covered under warrenty

  • Suddenly shuts off, turns on (completely reboots)

    Hi,
I have a Macbook Pro (15-inch, early 2011).  My computer suddenly shuts off (fully charged, plugged in, no warnings of low battery or anything).  When I turn it back on, it reboots completely (as opposed to restoring my session like it usually does if the battery dies) and says the battery is at 0%.  This has happened a few times now.  Does anybody know what it is or how to fix it?  Thanks in advance!
