Saving to jpeg/ progress scans

I've never noticed this before  -- at botton progress scans 3,4,5.
seems to default to 3. what is it? thanks.

thanks C.!
sorry, that PS language did not understand too well. very boilerplat language.
Suffice it to say, is it fair to say I don't need to worry about it?
I just click save and everything seems to go ok.
The pdf, where is it? where do I download it?
thanks, the help button from menu does not seem to do much good these days.

  • Images saved as jpegs getting too compressed

I've recently started using Photoshop Elements 12 (having previously worked with PSE8) . . . and I'm finding that, after saving my in-progress files as TIFF files all along the way (which is what I've always done to avoid compression as I'm going), then when I go to save the finished file as a jpeg, the jpeg file size is smaller than ideal for printing (say 350K), even though I've got the "quality" slider all the way on 12 (high).
This has been happening for a while (I'm somehow just starting to notice) . . . in the past, it seems that finished jpeg sizes were somewhere in the neighborhood of 1-3 M.  I'm guessing that I must have something-or-other set on the wrong thing (the files that are ending up so small are not super-cropped-in from the original image or some such thing...).
Anyone have a clue of what could be going awry??
    Thanks!  :-)

Oh, goodness.  I just figured out the problem -- I got a new camera a few months ago and have been taking pictures with my quality setting set on "S" instead of "L."  Guess that stands for small or large files, and when I was setting it up, I assumed it was low resolution vs. super or something like that.  yeeps.  bummer for the past few months' pictures, but at least the problem is solved!

  • Edited RAW files not saved as .JPEG files

Before I updated to iPhoto8, when I edited my RAW files they were saved to JPEG files automatically. From the Help documentation, I believe that this should still be happening..... but it isn't.
Do I have a setting wrong? Anyone know?
    Thanks.

Check the entry "About nondestructive editing" in iPhoto Help. With iPhoto '08 you will not see the "save" progress bar unless the photo was previously edited in iPhoto 6. Here is a portion of the text:
Nondestructive editing allows you to try different adjustments and effects at will⎯there’s no danger that successive edits and saves will degrade your photo’s quality. You’re never more than one version away from your original photo. Instead of saving a new version over the previous one every time you edit a photo, iPhoto ’08 simply remembers all your changes as an edit list.
When you reopen your edited photo to view or do more work, iPhoto then reapplies those edits to the original version. You’ll see where you left off, so you can make incremental changes from there.
IMPORTANT: For photos imported to earlier versions of iPhoto and never edited, nondestructive editing will apply in iPhoto ’08.
However, for photos imported to earlier versions and edited either in iPhoto or in a separate application such as Photoshop, nondestructive editing does not apply.

  • Saving a JPEG file for printing

When saving a JPEG file for printing using Elements9, should one use "baseline standard, optimized or progressive"?

Thanks, Andromeda....  I see that PSE8 Organizer has the ability to update the Caption as you have described.  The caption appears in the Description field in the General area and in the Description field in the IPTC area of the image file.  I was unable to update the Title or any other fields using Organizer.  Looks like PSE8 Editor must be used to update all the metadata fields in the image file.  Thus far, the only way I have been able to update the metadata in a JPEG file without having to re-compress it is with a HEX editor.  This, however, is a slow process at best.  Too bad Organizer or Editor does not provide the abilty to update all fields in the metadata without having to recompress the file.  I am not a programmer; however, it would appear to be a fairly straight-forward process.  Thanks, again.

  • Reposting this - bringing dvd footage into FCP - progressive scan

I occasionally have clients that need me to bring footage into their projects from a dvd or vhs. I'm looking into getting something that can do both NTSC & PAL and I've come across this product:
    Sharp DV-NC80
    6-Head Hi-Fi Stereo VHS/S-VHS VCR & DVD, CD-R, V-CD Combo Player - Multi System, Multi Zone
My only dilemma is that the dvd player does not have progressive scan. Can anyone let me know if that should matter or not and what progressive scan is for? (I read the jagged edge article, but does progressive scan affect how FCP digitizes dvd material as well?) Thank you.

Unless you are bringing the material in via a capture card, you can't take advantage of the 480p scanrate anyway...

I am batch processing in PS 2014 (watermark and saving as jpeg from ps file). I get the message for some but not all 'this file needs to be saved as a copy with this option'. And then I have to save it manually. Does anyone know why this happens? (It is just a plain photoshop file, a watermark is added, then save as jpeg - the jpeg is saved to a different folder than the original photoshop file.)  It happens for about 10 of 30/40  files approximately . Thank you, Kathryn

I believe I have figured it out - I need to flatten the image, even though there are no layers except for layer 0, first.

  • Progressive Scan: MacBook to TV FullHD. Help

    Good night.
I have several questions about connecting my MacBook on my TV.
    Gears:
    - MacBook completely updated, using the Snow Leopard 10.6.1
    - LG Scarlet LCD TV 42" FULL HD (1080p)
I will buy a MiniDVI to HDMI adapter and plug it in my Scarlet.
I have downloaded from Apple Movie Trailers videos:
    - New Moon HD 1080p
    - New Moon HD 720p
    - Dark Knight 1080p
    - Transformers 2 1080p
I ran the videos on the Mac itself and not getting the Progressive Scan effect that were described in
    videos.
    (1) - Is the MacBook Display Progressive Scan?
    (2) - When I connect my MacBook on TV I see the videos running on the Progressive Scan resolution 1920 x 1080 (1080p)?
    Thank you for your attention.

what exactly is your issue? any modern computer display (macbook too) & output (DVI or VGA) will be progressive scan, that's why interlaced video has a bunch of vertical lines in it, or the edges of subjects / objects in said video have "mice teeth" around them when played back on a Mac / PC.
The Mini DVI to S-video / composite video adapter does work with interlaced sets. I'm not sure if the adapter is producing interlaced or if it's the tv converting on the fly... I think it's the adapter...

  • Is a Form locked while saving is in progress?

    Hi,
Is there a way to advice a user to not switch to another page while a form is saving? Or can I create a pop up form to appear while saving is in progress?
I have observed that while a form is being saved, while the user switched the form to another page, the progress of saving the first page is locked causing the server to not respond anymore, CPU usage reached the maximum available resource.
    How can we avoid such?
    Thanks.

You could certainly look into using a simple piece of custom javascript that will display an alert message once a form has been saved.
First place to start is :- http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E12825_01/epm.111/hp_admin/apa.html

  • Progressive Scan mode (DVD on Sharp Aquos LCD)

I want to use the Mac Mini as a DVD player on my 32" Sharp Aquos. Does anyone know if the Mac Mini supports progressive scan mode?
Also, has anyone run into issues connecting to the 32" Sharp Aquos LCD TV?
    Thanks
    Curt

Along the lines of progressive scan vs. interlaced... I've noticed while playing video from Quicktime I can make a selection to pick which one I prefer. I've got a project that I created in iMovie and I notice that if I were to share (export) a clip using the expert settings I can chose whether it is interlaced or progressive. However, when accessing those same .mov files in iDVD I don't see any settings that indicate whether the final DVD will be interlaced or progressive. From the looks of the footage viewing it on my computer it looks like it is interlaced. How can I create a DVD with this iMovie footage that ends up displaying as progressive?
    thanks for any advice.

  • I've created a "header" in Illustrator. When I send it to someone to be used in a report.. it comes up "blurred" or, with a white background. I tried opening in Photoshop and saving as JPEG, but get same results. What do I do?

Can anyone give me suggestions .. after creating a "logo" or a "header" to be used by someone else in a presentation or report.. I can't figure out how to make the background transparent, and keep the image clear. Created in CS6 Illustrator.. tried opening in Photoshop and saving as JPEG.. no luck.

Have you tried exporting for MS Office?
You could also try exporting as transparent PNG with 144 ppi.
On top of that: don't scale it in Office.

  • My .cr2 files turn a tinted blue after saving as jpegs in ACR CS5

After color correcting a batch of about 100 images, I saved as jpegs and then hit done and a select few of the photos turn a tinted blue. All of the other settings stayed the same.. Does anyone have a clue as to what is going on? Or need me to explain more?

It sounds like user-error where an image off screen is still accidentally selected when tint is being adjusted on another group of images, perhaps with a mixture of fluorescent and daylight images, which have a significant difference in tint so the adjustment of one would be obvious on the other.
Since you posted here, I’d guess you don’t feel it is user-error and the ACR plug-in is doing something to cause the issue.  Because it is across two different versions of Photoshop and occurring with different people, a bug would have to be longstanding, but I don’t recall others reporting it.  Sometimes there are sliders that stick or become activated when an unrelated context is exited from (maybe I’m remembering things in Lightroom not ACR, though) so when the mouse-wheel is moved a slider unexpectedly moves instead of the thumbnail list scrolling, but that sort of thing should be obvious on-screen and not only when the JPGs are written.
Does the WB adjustment ever happen near the end of the process so it is the last thing done and a last-minute error might go unnoticed if ACR had not had a chance to redo all the thumbnails?
Is this a relatively new crew of people or a very light or very heavy load, where lack-of-attention or pressure could be leading to selection errors when and adjustment is applied and extra photos are getting selected by accident?  Is there anything different about the one person who hasn’t seen the problem?
Is there anything with the computer monitors that make it difficult to see what images are selected?
It might be interesting to look at the timestamp of the XMP files (if you use those) to see if the one with a bad WB was updated at a different time compared to the ones surrounding it that all were probably done at the same time.
Are these files all local to each computer or are they being shared from a central location?
With a bug it would be nice to have a documented procedure that will always lead to the problem.  Something intermittent that cannot be reproduced by Adobe isn’t going to get fixed.
If it happens relatively often, then you could record an entire session using a screen recorder (like camtasia or similar), or using a video camera over someone’s shoulder, and then play it back and look for either user-error, or as proof that there was none, but strange things happened.

  • Photos saved in JPEG unable to recognise

I'm using Photoshop CS5 on a mac. The photos saved in jpeg is only recognised by photo editing software. E.g. photos are unable to upload to facebook, nor view on a PC unless using paint. Please advise.

Windows systems require the file extension such as jpeg (.jpg) so windows programs know type of file it is.
On earlier versions of the photoshop cs series (i don't have past cs2 on a mac) under File Handling in the photoshop preferences
you could choose if you want the file extensions added when saving files.
Also under your finder preferences you can set your mac to show file extensions.
If you transfer a file saved on your mac to a pc you can also add the file extension to the end of the name  (example .jpg for jpeg files) or use from within photoshop File>Open As
and pick the format from the list.

  • Save for web as PNG-24 with slices is saving in JPEG format!

    Hello all.
I'm using Photoshop Extended CS6 13.0.1 x64 and when I save for web as PNG-24, all the slices from the project, the final result are JPEG format pictures. I tried the same but exporting as GIF and it keeps saving as JPEG. I tried Save As instead of Save for Web and it works, but this way I'm not saving by slice and not for web.
    Any idea why this happens?

Found the solution. I had to select all the slices.

  • Can doc files be saved as jpeg?

Can doc files be saved as jpeg files on Macbook Pro?

The problem with screen capture is that it only captures the section of the document currently visible on the screen, which is awkward.
The better option is Print > Save as PDF, then open with Preview and convert to JPEG.
The problem is that both .doc and .pdf are, or can be, multipage, while .jpg is a single image. Consequently, Preview will only convert to JPEG the current page, hence pages have to be converted one by one; which is fine, if the .doc consists of 1 or 2 pages; otherwise, you'd have to find another converter (eg, GraphicConverter) or script it. Perhaps the real solution is to examine why would you want to convert .doc to .jpg in the first place. PDF is well-nigh universal, and should be readable on any system, even quite old ones.
