Scaling Fullscreen applications?

I have a bit of a problem,
I'm trying to run a few games through steam,
FTL: Horizontally aligned perfectly by default but black borders on top and bottom, no proper resolution option
Magical Diary: Stretched from top to bottom, black borders on the sides, no resolution option.
Dungeons of Dredmor: Offers my native resolution option and works.
Is there a way i can scale the games up to my full screen size to get rid of the black borders in linux?
I'm using XFCE4 as my display manager currently.

Hi all,
According to your experience, what do you say,
J2ee applications scale better adding more boxes or
more cpu's ?
Thanks
Francesco That question cant be answered based on the information given. It depends on many things, and the application itself beeing one of the more important. Also, adding more machines doesnt necessarily scale the application at all, at least not upwards.

    why fullscreen application hangs on debug
    My application runs in full-screen with resolution 1024-768 with the following code:
    GraphicsDevice device;
      public void startApplication() throws Exception
          boolean isFullScreen = device.isFullScreenSupported();
           if (isFullScreen) {
                device.setFullScreenWindow(this);
                validate();
                frame.setVisible(true);
            } else {
                System.out.println("Your Screen Does't Support Full Screen");
        } // eof startApplication method
         * @param arg String[]
         * main() method
        public static void main(String[] arg)

                                        getLocalGraphicsEnvironment();
                GraphicsDevice gs = ge.getDefaultScreenDevice();
                ApplicationDesktop desktop = new ApplicationDesktop(gs);
    //ApplicationDesktop  extends Jframe
               desktop.initComponents();
               desktop.startApplication();
              }catch(Exception ex)
                 ex.printStackTrace();
              }

    Maybe because your debugger is stealing the focus of your full-screen window.
    Try to add a WindowFocusListener to your window, making it iconifing or whatever when it loses the focus.
    Just a guess.

  • Switching out of fullscreen applications

    How can I switch out of fullscreen applications (like WoW) back to the desktop or to Safari or something. Command-Tab doesn't work when fullscreen.

    It may be different for each app, but most of the ones I use in full screen revert to the small screen by using the escape key.

  • Creative cloud.exe and legacy fullscreen applications

    I've noticed that there are problems on my system (Win8.1, nVidia GTX660) and legacy fullscreen applications (games).
    This only affects some applications. It runs, then loses focus. When I try to activate the main window it immediately loses focus (again).
    The workaround for me was to kill creative cloud.exe. I originally wanted to submit a bug report but got here
    One application that behaves like this is Deus Ex: Invisible War.

    I can’t get the widget browser to connect and I can’t sign in within the program.
    “Unable to load WSDL. If currently online, please verify the URI and/or format of the WSDL (http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/exchange/exchangedwwidgetsfacade.cfc?wsdl)”)
    I spent upwards of two hours trying to sort this last night and none of the advice on the forums got me there so I gave up and decided to just buy it and download it from the web.
    Now I have this problem instead.
    Any help with sorting either problem would be appreciated

  • FMEL - What Screen Cap Program Can Capture in Fullscreen for Fullscreen Applications?

    I have tried 6 screen cap programs: VH, Uscreen, CamStudio, UltraVNC...etc, and none are able to capture any program that I use in fullscreen, whether it is a 3D game or a fullscreen slideshow.
    Does anyone know of a (preferably free) screen capture program that works for Windows 7 and can capture 3D fullscreen applications? If there is nothing for free, then any premium recommendations would be appreciated.
    I just could not find a program that worked, so I am just wondering if there is a tried and proven program out there.
    Thanks!

    I believe there is only one program (besides getting a capture card) that does this, it does however cost money (It's called DXtory, not sure on it's reliability as I have never used it myself.. It may also not work with everything..
    Only way of doing this guaranteed to work is through capture cards, but if you want decent resolutions with that then you gotta be prepared to shell out quite a bit of money unfortunately.
    edit: let me add, I have not used dxtory so I can not tell you how/if this would work with FME for example, but I have heard from other people that dxtory would be an alternative for fullscreen.. however that program also has the ability to record to harddrive and I am unsure if that's the only way (like fraps) or if it can output to a virtual webcam as well... I just don't know...
    edit2: ok seems like there is a trial for the program, and it also does allow you to output it into a virtual webcam (trial has a watermark) so you Can use it for FME.. You should check it out, it costs 3600 yen so that's like $45

  • How do you minimize fullscreen applications?

    Hi everyone,
    I was playing The Sims 2 earlier and I wanted to look something up on the internet at the same time. Being that I recently converted to Mac, I naturally pressed Alt+Tab (or Command+Tab) and nothing happened. So anyway, is it possible to minimize fullscreen applications in OS X?
    Thanks

    Well, The Sims is not a game you want to play in "Window" mode. It's a full-screen one that you could minimise on Windows OS. I am a Mac convert and absolutely love my mac, and I have eventually got used to not doing things the Windows way, which has worked fine so far. But with some things, like minimising the game, it's just annoying not being able to do it yet! (I bet there must be a solution). I've tried fn F12 to minimise the window, as well as combo of cmd + tab, cmd + alt + tab, etc etc etc. Nothing seems to work. In any case, it has to be aspyr or EA games the ones who make a key compatibility in order for OS X users to be able to do this!!!
    Anyone else?? Any answers??

  • Still no ways to kill fullscreen applications?

    I'm not sure if I'm getting this wrong. But it seems like at 10.6, Apple still didn't release control to the users. When a fullscreen application freezes (nothing else, just the application), there is still no ways to kill the application. +Q doesn't work, OptEsc doesn't work, +Tab doesn't work.
    In linux I can switch to another tty and in Windows, Alt-Tab typically still works in applications, as do Ctrl-Alt-Delete. Under the hood, mac does have one of the best OS around but why doesn't Apple allow users control their own OS yet?
    Having to force shutdown a computer just because one application crashed (I can still control brightness etc) is ridiculous. Telling me to ssh into my own computer while I should still have control of it is even more ridiculous

    I'm not sure if I'm getting this wrong. But it seems like at 10.6, Apple still didn't release control to the users.
    You're getting it wrong. See below.
    When a fullscreen application freezes (nothing else, just the application), there is still no ways to kill the application. +Q doesn't work, OptEsc doesn't work, +Tab doesn't work.
    If the force quit keys don't work, then you need to be blaming the maker of the fullscreen application, not Apple. If the app doesn't let you use the standard command-Q keystroke, again, blame the maker of the app. If it doesn't let you switch to other apps through standard methods like command-tab... yeah, you know what I'm going to say.
    Apple provides a very good set of tools. If an app uses skanky methods to disable things that shouldn't be disabled or doesn't provide support for standard keystrokes (like command-Q), that is not Apple's doing.
    Fact is, I've never had trouble with command-option-escape to force quit a fullscreen app. That always works fine for me. It's not uncommon for fullscreen apps to prevent switching via command-tab, and it's also not uncommon for some fullscreen games to not support command-Q.
    Under the hood, mac does have one of the best OS around but why doesn't Apple allow users control their own OS yet?
    Let me get this straight... you are choosing to run a fullscreen application that restricts what you are allowed to do, and you are complaining that Apple is not allowing you to control your OS? That's a joke...

  • Xorg, twinview fullscreen applications

    Hi,
    after the upgrade to the new Xorg i had to create a new Xorg.conf. I configured my two monitors with nvidia-settings. Everything is working fine, except fullscreen applications (like games - UrbanTerror or zsnes for example). Those will be displayed centered on both screens (one half on the left and one half on the right monitor). The problem occurred to some people in this forum but no one has posted a solution to this. Is this really such a big problem?
    Fullscreen videos played by totem are shown correct on one of the monitors.
    Has anyone an idea how to solve this?
    Thanks
    VR

    The bug still seems to exist. I just wanted to inform you, that i found another workaround:
    I tested XFCE and found the "fullscreen window option" in the context menu of the top-window-bars (Shortcut Alt+F11). It sets the selected window to an undecorated-fullscreen-window and that's the most comfortable workaround to me that i've found. Other window managers should support this kind of undecorated-fullscreen too.
    Not that much magic but i only found it by accident - weird.

  • Is there a way to turn off the menubar/dock in fullscreen applications?

    I've recently been using several applications which are designed to operate in an absolute fullscreen mode, and I'm being frustrated by the appearance of the menubar or dock if I happen to move the cursor near their locations.   For these specific applications, there is no need to access the menubar in full screen mode, and very often there will be things I wish to click on which are near the top of the screen, but it is very hard to do without moving one pixel too close and having the menubar drop down and obscure what I was trying to click on.
    An example of programs where this can be an issue are remote desktop access programs (Splashtop in my specific case).   When I make the application full-screen, it displays the full-screen of the remote computer.  However, as you can imagine, when you try to access the menubars on the remote machine, the menubar for my local machine will drop down and obscure the remote menubar.  For a remote desktop application, if I want to access the local menubar I would drop out of fullscreen mode and then access the local menu bar, but when I am in fullscreen mode, I don't want the local menubar to display.  The same problem exists for the Dock, obviously just whenever I need to access something at the bottom of the screen instead of at the top.
    What I really want to know is this:  How can I set the menubar/dock to be permanently hidden when I am using an application in a full screen mode.   There are certain apps in which I absolutely do not want the menubar to appear and it is extremely frustrating to have it keep 'jumping in front of my mouse' at the edges of the screen.

    Oh, it also lists my bookmarks as well. Private browsing? Are you serious?

  • Using fullscreen applications with two monitors

    I have an external monitor connected to my macbook via VGA and the mini-DVI adapter. I often use the second monitor to play video files, while using my macbook display for other work. My problem is that whenever I try to run an application in fullscreen mode on either monitor, the other monitor goes black and is unusable. I've searched these forums and the internet in general, but have been unable to find any kind of solution to this. If anyone knows how to remedy this, please help.

    Haha. Found the answer to my own question. There's an option in VLC to disable black screens during fullscreen. Guess I must have missed it.

  • XFCE tab out of fullscreen applications?

    Stupid question, but how do I tab out of applications in full screen?
    On gnome3 I can just hit mod4 and I get to the overview, or I hit alt tab and can also switch applications which also works in full screen mode. On tiling windows managers, I can simple switch the active workspace, but how the hell do I get out of a full screen app in xfce and switch focus to another application running on that workspace?

    Alt-Tab works for me in most cases. I only have problems with games that grab the whole keyboard and disable all global hotkeys.
    PS: I use xfce with the default xfwm.

  • Fullscreen application doesn't work in linux

    hi all
    i have written an full screen application which is working fine in windows, nut it is not working in Linux
    thanks

    You can't depend on full screen exclusive mode in java. They state quite clearly that its avail could be thwarted by something as variable as the video card not supporting it. which means that it may not work under windows even.

  • When I run a application in fullscreen mode while using the Firefox browser, the application automatically minimizes, e gets back to normal only if I close the Firefox. How can I solve this problem?

    Hello, I'm writing it to inform you that I am having some problems with mozilla firefox 3.6.10, and I know that other people are having the same problem: Ever I run any fullscreen application, like games, while using mozilla firefox 3.6.10, it automatically minimizes (the program, not the browser). I'd like to find a solution. Sorry about the bad english, I'm a brazilian. My operational system is Windows 7 x86, and I have a Pentium E5300 processor, motherboard MSI (MS-7267), and 2GB of RAM DDR2. It's a Desktop Computer. Thanks for all.

  • LockScreen fails while an application runs fullscreen with an other reso.

    Hi,
    I just found a problem with Lock Screen.
    I am using this function in a school environment. Basically it is used for getting the students attention.
    But on some clients the lock fails sometimes. Some students tricked it out just by playing a game.
    It is possible to block the lock by running a fullscreen application (with a different screen resolution) just like supertux.
    Is there any way to avoid this?
    Best Regards

    Welcome to the Discussions, Buzz
    Considering we are talking school computer, I would suggest that the students are accessing the systems as managed users and aren't allowed to install let alone run games like supertux.
    If you intend for the students to have access to this game, then you already know the possible cost. I too have seen this with ARD, when applications are running in full-screen mode (similar to a kiosk). I do not know for sure, but this may be on purpose. I know of no way around it.
    You can leave feedback with Apple by going here.
    Hope this helps! JD
