Scan arrays from binary string

I have TCP connection that is sending a great number of fixed size arrays that I need to convert. Is there a simpler way to do that than the one I have attached?

Scan from binary string.vi ‏16 KB

Sorry, I didn't write my question clear enough.
I know how to do TCP data transfer. I also know how to unflatten the binary string back to data, but I was hoping there was a clearer way to do it than the way I suggested. For scalar values one can make a cluster containing the data in the binary string and only one "unflatten from string" is needed.
However, if the binary string is composed of arrays (even though they are fixed in size) I need one unflatten string for each array. In my case I have many small arrays. The attached example with only three arrays was only to illustrate what I wanted to do.
I have now found a way using a cluster of clusters. I don't know if this is the ideal way of doing this, but it works, and when enabling "view cluster as icon" I can make the code much more compact and easier to read

  • How can I convert a U32 array into binary string?

    Hi
    I would like to find an efficient way to convert an array of 8192 U32 into a single binary string!!!
    the solution below  last 550 ms on an RT target to convert 8192 U32.
    The same code running on Labview (not RT) last 100ms. I don't understand why there is such a difference.
    I've tryed to replace the inner loop and convert by a format string whith U32 on entry and %032b as parameter but it lasted same time.
    Thanks a lot

    Your picture of your code didn't come through. You can't link to a picture that's on your computer, as a server on the internet cannot access your computer to display the picture for others to see. You have to upload the picture as an attachment. Then, if you want to actually display the picture in the message you have to edit your post, insert a picture, and when it asks for the URL you enter the URL of the picture. You can get the URL when viewing the message, as the link is within the message itself.
    As for your question, can you just use the TypeCast function?

  • Binary String to numerical binary array

    Hello,
    I initially created binary strings from numerical numbers using the
    "%03b" command on the 'Format into String' block. I then concatenated
    the various strings into one string that is now composed of 16bits.
    However, I need to convert this string that I created back to a binary
    numerical array for further processing.
    Can you help me with this?
    Thanks,
    Rajesh.

    In general, you are out of luck, because the number of characters for each value when formatted to binary with "%03b", will be variable. Any number greater than 7 will use more than 3 digits. (since you use "03" instead of 3", smaller numbers will have three digits with possible leading zeroes for padding).
    After you concatenated all the formatted strings, you loose all boundary information unless ALL numbers are less than 8, but in this case they result would be a multiple of 3 and would not add up to 16 bits, right?
    My best suggestion would be to NOT create a binary formatted string in this way, because it is a one-way operation and cannot be undone because you loose information in the process.
    Back to square one!
    Maybe we can backup a few steps and you can explain to us what you really want to do with your original numbers. Why would you even consider formatting them this way? Do you need to save them to a file for later retrieval, for example?

  • Extracting strings from binary data

    Hello,
    I am trying to extract string from a binary file.
    At the unix command line (sunos) I can just type;
    strings <filename>
    This is a nice way to get a list of the contents of a directory.
    Is there a way in pl/sql to extract strings from binary data ? An equiv to strings on unix/linux ?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
    If you do want to list the contents of a directory, there are other ways to do it. Here's a base implementation of a utility I wrote:
    create or replace and resolve java source named "Util" as
    import java.io.*;
    import java.sql.*;
    import oracle.sql.*;
    import oracle.jdbc.driver.*;
    public class Util {
        public static void listFiles(String directory, oracle.sql.ARRAY[] names)
            throws IOException, SQLException {
            File f = new File(directory);
            if(f==null)
                throw new IOException("Directory: "+directory+" does not exist.");
            String[] files = f.list(
                new FilenameFilter() {
                    public boolean accept(File dir, String name) {
                        // List all files
                        return true;
            Connection conn = new OracleDriver().defaultConnection();
            ArrayDescriptor descriptor = ArrayDescriptor.createDescriptor("VC_TAB_TYPE", conn);
            names[0] = new ARRAY(descriptor, conn, files);
            return;
    create or replace type vc_tab_type is table of varchar2(255);
    create or replace package util authid current_user as
        function list_files(p_directory in varchar2)
            return vc_tab_type;
    end;
    create or replace package body util as
        procedure list_files (
            p_directory in varchar2
            , p_filenames out nocopy vc_tab_type
        is
        language java
        name 'Util.listFiles(java.lang.String, oracle.sql.ARRAY[])';
        function list_files(p_directory in varchar2) return vc_tab_type

  • Getting one character at a certain position from a string array

    Hi, i'm new at learning java, but have strong experience at C++ and asm. How would i get one character at a certain positon from a string array.
    for example:
    String Phrases[] = {"To be or not to be, that is the question","The Simpsons","The Mole","Terminator three rise of the machines","The matrix"};
    that is my string array above.
    lets say i wanted to get the first character from the first element of the array which is "T", how would i get this

    ok well that didn't work, but i found getChars function can do what i want. One problem, how do i check the contents of char array defined as char Inchar[];

  • Converting from spreadshet string to array and then back to spreadsheet string

    My questions is; why is the Spreadsheet string to array function creating more data than the original string had when you change the array back into a spreadsheet string. Im trying to analyze a comma delimited file using array functions since my column and row size is constant, but my data varies. Thus my reason for not using string parsing functions which would get more involved and difficult. So, however, after i convert to a 2D array of data from the comma delimited file I read from, and then I convert back to string using the Array to Spreadsheet String, I get added columns to the file, which prevents another program from receiving these files. Also, the data which I am reading is not all contiguous, it has gaps in some places for empty data. Looking at the file compared to the original after it has gone from string to array and then back to string again, looks almost identical except for the file size which got larger by 400 bytes and where the original file has empty spaces, the new file has a lot of commas added. Any idea?
    Charles

    The result you get is normal when the spreadsheet string contains rows of uneven length. Since the array rows have the same number of elements, nil values are added during the coonversion. And of course, the back to string conversion keep those added values in the string, with the associated commas.
    example : 3 x 3 array
    1,2,3
    4
    5,6,7
    is converted into
    1 2 3
    4 0 0
    5 6 7
    then back to
    1,2,3
    4,0,0
    5,6,7

  • Deleting all elements from array and array to spreadsheet string

    Hello,
    I would like to write a new data file for each "recording" session without closing the VI.  My problem is that the last "recording" session's data is at the top of every successive session's text file.  I do not want this.  I've tried to delete all rows from the array after my array to spreadsheet string function, but I think the problem is somewhere with the shift register and how the array is built.  I'm not too familiar with LabView and this aspect of my interface is driving me crazy.  Attached is my code and two successive data files.  I have not been able to find a solution on these or the LAVA forums.  Any help would be appreciated.
    Also, I know there is an easier way to write this kind of streaming data, but I need to do it this way for other devices and synchronization purposes.

    A few more comments to your code:
    Your loop does not have a wait, meaning it spins the empty case millions if times per second, consuming all CPU while not doing anything. Add an indicator to [i] to see.
    To clear a 2D array in one case frame, just don't wire the output tunnel and set it to "use default if unwired". You'll get an empty array. No fancy tools needed.
    I probably would use an event structure and also protect the data if the save dialog is canceled.
    Here's a simple draft that probably requires a bit more work but should show some of the ideas.
    You should also
    add some protection that the VI cannot consume all available memory if it runs forever.
    Create a seperate case to save the data later if the file dialog is cancelled the first time.

  • Passing values to form bean string array from dynamic added textboxes

    Hi,
    I am unable to pass values to form bean string array from a jsp in which I have incorporated dynamically adding of textboxes in javascript.

    Shivanand,
    There's no need to post that much code when you could create a very short test case that demonstrates only the problem you are having.
    You're using &NAME. notation on something that isn't a page or application item. You can't reference PL/SQL variables that way (or any other way) outside the PL/SQL scope. For your situation, you could create a page item named P55_DOCID and assign it a value in the PL/SQL process (:P55_DOCID := DOCID;), then reference &P55_DOCID. in HTML areas like the success message.

  • Decoding binary strings from 10 bit A/D converter

    Hi all,
    I'm working on a project for school that requires me to take data from an A/D converter ( the A/D is on a Motorola HCS12 microcontroller) and send it to a PC running LABVIEW to decode the binary string into a numerical value.  The value will be plugged into an equation.  I planned on using the serial port on the PC for the comm port.  Are there any examples available or any advice to get me started in the right direction.
    While I have programmed with LABVIEW in the past (academically) I am not proficient.  And this type of interfacing I have not done before, only GPIB.
    The A/D is 10 bit.  How quick LABVIEW decodes the binary string and returns a value is not important.
    If any more info. is needed let me know.

    Be confident. That should not be a big problem, since you'll get the help of the LV community
    The most difficult part will be to establish the communication with your micro-controler. But if you can do that with Windows hyperterminal, then you are nearly done ! There are examples of serial com in the examples shipped with LV.
    The string to decimal conversion will not be a problem, whatever the string format : the conversion is done using functions also shipped with LV.
    Hope to see you soon with more specific questions.

  • Example of passing String Array from java to C using JNI

    hi all
    i searched net for passing string array from java to C but i dont get anything relevent
    i have
    class stu
    int rollno
    string name
    String [] sub
    i want to pass all as String array from java to C and access it C side

    1. Code it as though it were being passed to another method written in java.
    2. Redefine the method implementation to say "native".
    3. Run jnih to generate a C ".h" file. You will see that the string array
    is passed into C as a jobject, which can be cast to a JNI array.
    4. Write the C code to implement the method and meet the interface
    in the generated .h file.

    In order to use Unflatten from string you first need to Flatten it
    before writing it. Also depending on the database driver, the returned
    data may actually not be binary but Hexadecimal encoded ASCII which you
    would first have to decode to binray.

  • Read an avi file using "Read from binary file" vi

    My question is how to read an avi file using "Read from binary file" vi .
    My objective is to create a series of small avi files by using IMAQ AVI write frame with mpeg-4 codec of 2 second long (so 40 frames in each file with 20 fps ) and then send them one by one so as to create a stream of video. The image are grabbed from USB camera. If I read those frames using IMAQ AVI read frame then compression advantage would be lost so I want to read the whole file itself.
    I read the avi file using "Read from binary file" with unsigned 8 bit data format and then sent to remote end and save it and then display it, however it didnt work. I later found that if I read an image file using "Read from binary file" with unsigned 8 bit data format and save it in local computer itself , the format would be changed and it would be unrecognizable. Am I doing wrong by reading the file in unsined 8 bit integer format or should I have used any other data types.
    I am using Labview 8.5 and Labview vision development module and vision acquisition module 8.5
    Your help would be highly appreciated.
    Thank you.

    Hello,
    Check out the (full) help message for "write to binary file"
    The "prepend array or string size" input defaults to true, so in your example the data written to the file will have array size information added at the beginning and your output file will be (four bytes) longer than your input file. Wire a False constant to "prepend array or string size" to prevent this happening.

  • Conversion of Decimal to Binary String

    Hello Labview People:
    I'm rather new to Labview, so this may be a simple-minded question . . .
    I would like to take a numeric control and have the decimal input
    converted to a binary string of 8 bits. So, for example, if I were to
    put in the number '127', I would get out (on an indicator) the string:
    01111111
    The number '128' would show on the indicator as:
    10000000
    It seems to me that this should be simple, but somehow I cannot figure
    out how to do it. Must an array be built bit by bit to accomplish this?
    (I'm afraid I don't yet know how to build arrays.)
    Thanks in advance for any help you provide!

    Before you buy.

    Or, you can go under the numeric function, and look for conversions, get
    decimal to byte array conversion.
    Then what you need to do is to get an array selection vi, and index to zero.
    I don't remember the exact name of the VI's because I don't have LabView
    here with me.
    Perhaps this complicates things
